How to post 3D photos on your iPhone to Facebook, using Portrait Mode on certain iPhone models

0

iPhone X

In 2018, Facebook rolled out the ability to post 3D photos from your iPhone using Facebook's iOS app.

Before you get too excited, note that this currently only works with the iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XS, or XS Max

The feature takes advantage of the double cameras in Apple's flagship models, allowing you to quickly and easily post unique, memorable pictures.

Here's how to do it.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

iPhone 7 Plus (From $449.99 at Best Buy)

iPhone 8 Plus (From $649.99 at Best Buy)

iPhone X (From $899.99 at Best Buy)

iPhone Xs (From $999.99 at Best Buy)

iPhone Xs Max (From $1,099.99 at Best Buy)

How to post 3D photos on your iPhone to Facebook

Again, make sure your phone is an iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XS, or XS Max. Otherwise you won't be able to use Portrait Mode to capture the required picture file and upload it to Facebook's app.

1. Open the Facebook app.

2. If you haven't already liked Facebook 360, find the page and like it.

iPhone_3D1.PNG

3. You will likely have to close and reopen the Facebook app before posting your 3D photo.

4. Tap on the status post line ("What's on your mind?") to post a new status.

5. Scroll down to 3D Photo (it should be the top item below the status input).

6. This will pull up the 3D photos available, which are any photos taken in Portrait Mode.

7. Tap the image you want to post in 3D.

8. Once Facebook has your photo loaded and ready, tap Next.

9. Move your phone to ensure it has the 3D effect.

10. Fill in your captions and tap Share, like you would with any other picture.

Your photo can now be rotated to show a three-dimensional depth of field on a computer. When viewing with a phone or tablet, however, simply moving the device will allow you to rotate and see the depth of the picture.

ipad business man

The Facebook app on your iPad gives you access to most of the features you'd enjoy when using the social media platform on a computer: viewing friends' posts and pictures, adding your own photos and videos, updating your status, and more.

However, one thing the Facebook app does not allow is ready use of Facebook Messenger.

To access Facebook Messenger on your iPad, you need to get the separate Facebook Messenger app.

But you can't simply log out of Messenger using the Messenger app — for that, you need to go back into the main Facebook app and follow these steps.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

iPad (From $329.99 at Best Buy)

How to log out of Messenger on your iPad

1. From the home page of the Facebook app on your iPad, tap the three parallel lines at the bottom right corner of the page.

I didn’t get the hype around weighted blankets until I tried this one that has a cooling side and a warming side

0

blanket banner3

  • Weighted blankets use Deep Touch Pressure (DTP) to help ground our bodies and release serotonin, which ultimately makes us more calm.
  • While they've been used for decades for therapeutic treatments, weighted blankets are now making it to the mainstream. Plenty of sleep brands are releasing their own iterations, like Layla Sleep — a mattress company that has expanded into other sleep-related products.
  • We've been using the Layla Weighted Blanket ($159 for a queen) and love it's soft materials, cooling and warming sides, evenly distributed weight, and how it helps us relax before bed and stay asleep through the night.

Sleeping with a blanket filled with weights sounds like it would be anything but comfortable. Surprisingly, though, sleeping with a weighted blanket may help you get your best sleep yet.

What's the deal with weighted blankets?

Weighted blankets are just what they sound like — regular blankets filled with some sort of weight, typically small glass beads. The weight provides a gentle pressure across your body (think of the feeling you get from a good hug), which helps you relax. And it's not just in your head. While there aren't many studies out about weighted blankets specifically, the idea of grounding our bodies with pressure has been used for decades as a therapeutic treatment for depression, insomnia, sensory disorders, and more. That's because this gentle pressure, or Deep Touch Pressure (DTP), actually helps our bodies release serotonin which has a calming effect and ultimately helps us feel better.

Now, weighted blankets have made it into the mainstream and are touted as a trusted way to relieve anxiety, restlessness, and ultimately get a really good night's sleep, every time.

To see if weighted blankets live up to the hype, my colleague and I each tried one from Layla. Ultimately, we were impressed with how comfortable the blanket is, and how well we slept.

layla weighted blanket back

What makes the Layla weighted blanket special

The Layla Weighted Blanket comes in three options: twin, queen, or king. Each weighs 15, 20, or 25 pounds, respectively. Small glass beads are evenly distributed and sewn between layers of poly-fill, so the blanket is free of any lumps and doesn't make any noise when you move it around. A hexagon quilting pattern is what keeps the weight spread evenly across the blanket, so no one spot is ever too heavy.

One of my personal favorite aspects of the blanket is that it's double-sided. One side is made of a clean, soft 100% cotton. This side sleeps cool, which is particularly nice now that's it's summertime. On the other side is a plush, mink-like fleece layer. It is so soft and toasty, perfect for bundling up on a cold night. Being able to easily alternate between these two sides definitely gives this blanket an advantage — it's almost like having two weighted blankets in one. As an added bonus, the Layla Weighted Blanket is machine washable, making taking care of it a breeze.

In terms of pricing, the Layla Weighted Blanket is relatively affordable. With most weighted blankets falling in the $100 to $200 range, Layla is competitive: a twin is $129, a queen is $159, and a king is $179 (though, by the way, they're all $10 off right now). You'll get a 120 day warranty to try the blanket, so you can return it after a few months if you don't like it, though I think you will.

layla

Our experiences with Layla

I'm a fairly restless sleeper, so I was thrilled to try out this weighted blanket.

I have a full-size bed and the blanket covered the surface of my bed perfectly. I placed it on top of my sheets and under my quilt so that it couldn't be seen unless someone were to actually get in bed. The blanket was hard to get used to the first couple nights because I felt trapped under the weight, but on the third night, I finally got used to the heavy feeling and slept better than I had in a while.

Since it's summer, it does get a bit warm, but I use a fan pointed toward my bed so it wasn't a huge problem. I also found that if you're one of those people who likes have one leg out from under the sheets, then it becomes more difficult to do with a heavy blanket sitting on top of you.

I've used it for a few weeks now and I'm thrilled with it. I can finally sleep through the night without feeling restless and uneasy. — Megan Foster, Insider Picks intern

I will try almost anything in the name of getting a good night's sleep. I've used melatonin lotions, lavender pillow sprays, and a slew of other interesting sleep products to try to maximize my eight-or-so hours every night.

I was excited to try a weighted blanket after hearing my coworkers rave about them (see here, here, and here), but I have to say this product exceeded my expectations. Carrying home the queen size, which weighs in at 20 pounds, was difficult, so I was nervous that it would be too heavy on my body. In actuality, since the weight is distributed across the blanket, there isn't one point that's too heavy. When I first started using it, my body felt almost weightless — the grounded pressure really made me feel much more comfortable. I chose to use the cotton side, (since it's summer I think the plush is a little heavy for me) and I love the smooth, cool feel of it.

After using the blanket for a few weeks, I've definitely noticed how its improved my sleep. I don't usually have trouble falling asleep, but I'm restless, tossing and turning through the night. Using the Layla Weighted Blanket has helped me stay put while I sleep, which ultimately helps me stay asleep for longer and sleep more soundly. I now see why a blanket has the power to ease not just your body, but mind as well. Just like a massage may make us less stressed, or a hug may make us less sad, the pressure of the weighted blanket really made me less anxious and restless. — Remi Rosmarin, Insider Picks reporter

Bottom line

If you're looking for a weighted blanket, Layla's is a great choice. It's comfortable, made with high-quality materials, and provides an evenly distributed weight that grounds you while you sleep. It's relatively affordable and so easy to take care of, plus there is no set up — all you have to do is take the blanket out of the box.

Of course, everyone's different, especially when it comes to how we sleep. But, based off of our experiences, we'd definitely recommend the Layla Weighted Blanket to anyone who's looking for a simple way to sleep better. I mean, who wouldn't want to feel like they're wrapped in a hug?

'How much is the iPhone 11 Pro?': Everything you need to know about Apple's first 'Pro' phones, including their standard prices, trade-in prices, and new features

iPhone 11 Pro Screens

The iPhone 11 Pro will retail for $999 ($41.62 per month using Apple's financing plan). The larger iPhone 11 Pro Max will cost $1099 (or $45.79 per month).

Apple also has a comprehensive trade-in program in place — you can get up to $600 off a new iPhone if you trade in last year's iPhone XS Max, bringing the cost of an 11 Pro down to as little as $399.

Here's a complete list of trade-in values for fully functioning iPhones in good condition:

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

iPhone 11 Pro (From $999.99 at Best Buy)

iPhone 11 Pro Max (From $1,099.99 at Best Buy)

What's new in the iPhone 11 Pro

There are two iPhone 11 Pro models. The iPhone 11 Pro has a 5.8-inch display (the same size as the iPhone XS) and the iPhone 11 Pro Max has a 6.5-inch display (the same as the iPhone XS Max).

Both models add a third lens to the camera cluster on the rear of the phone, and it's the camera capabilities that really distinguish the iPhone 11 Pro from any other iPhone. In addition to the wide angle and ultra-wide angle lenses, these cameras also include a telephoto lens, giving you an optical zoom range from 0.5x to 2.0x. This means sharper pictures, from farther away.

iPhone 11 Pro and Max

Apple has also invested in computational photography, which uses artificial intelligence to process and improve photos as they're taken. There's a new night mode, for example, as well as a shooting mode called Deep Fusion, which combines nine shots, including a long-exposure photo, into a single optimized high-quality image that includes the best of each.

The Pro models also have several new video tricks. In addition to shooting at 4K, 60 fps, the phone has extended dynamic range and enhanced image stabilization. Apple is also touting a feature called Audio Zoom, which lets the phone zoom in automatically in response to audio cues.

The front of the phone now features a 12-megapixel camera. Apple has added a new slow-motion selfie mode, as well as the ability to shoot in wide angle from the front as well as the rear.

Both iPhone 11 Pro models are powered by Apple's new A13 Bionic chip, which the company claims is the iPhone's fastest processor yet. Battery life is also improved — you get about four hours more runtime than the older iPhone XS

You can choose from four colors: Space gray, midnight green, silver, and gold.

When the iPhone 11 Pro phones will be released

You can pre-order an iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max starting on Friday, September 13, 2019 at 5 AM PDT, and both models will be available for sale on Friday, September 20, 2019.

'How much is the Apple Watch Series 5?': Everything you need to know about Apple's latest smartwatch, including its various prices and new features

Apple Watch Titanium

The Apple Watch Series 5, the 2019 version of Apple's popular smartwatch, will be available at retail starting at $399. There are several different price points, though, depending upon what style and model of Apple Watch Series 5 you choose.

The base model sports an aluminum case. You can buy it with GPS only (no cellular plan) for $399, or GPS + Cellular for $499.

A stainless steel version of the watch is available for $699, while the titanium case costs $799

In addition, the watch is available in two sizes: a 40mm case and a 44mm case, which costs about $30 to $50 more, depending upon the model.

There are also specially branded versions of the Apple Watch Series 5, such as Apple Watch Nike (starting at $399) and Apple Watch Hermès (starting at $1249).

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

Apple Watch Series 5 (From $429 at Best Buy)

What's new in the Apple Watch Series 5

Without a doubt, the most important new feature in the Apple Watch 5 is its always-on Retina display. Previous models of the watch turned off the display entirely to conserve battery life, so you had to raise your wrist to activate the screen and read the time or other information.

Now, thanks to a high-efficiency processor, the Series 5 shows a dimmed version of the screen all the time, though it changes to full brightness when you raise your wrist. Apple claims that even with the always-on display, battery life remains consistent with previous models of the watch at about 18 hours between charges.

Apple Watch Series 5

Apple has added a built-in compass, which allows location-aware apps like Apple Maps to orient the display properly automatically. And cellular versions of the Series 5 will allow international emergency calling in over 150 countries, even if your paired iPhone is not nearby.

The new WatchOS 6 operating system includes a few useful health features, like the ability for women to better track their menstrual cycles, and get insight into fertility windows. A sound sensor warns about potentially unsafe audio levels (such as at concerts) and the watch is built to detect if you fall (which, on cellular models, can automatically place emergency calls).

Apple Watch Series 5

When the Apple Watch Series 5 will be released

The Apple Watch Series 5 is currently available for pre-order, and will be available for sale starting on Friday, September 20, 2019, both online and in Apple stores.

Read the fine print when you buy your ticket

"It's worth reading all that fine print in those disclaimers," a flight attendant for Spirit Airlines said. Doing so could save money on your carry-on bags, she said.

Use the website Skyscanner to find the lowest fares

"I've found a lot of great deals on there," the Spirit flight attendant said of Skyscanner.

Always bring a water bottle

"I always travel with a reusable water bottle," a flight attendant for Delta Air Lines said. "Every airport, in the US at least, has a spot to fill your water bottle."

Always bring a portable charger

"I always travel with a portable charger," the Delta flight attendant said. "Not all airports have a ton of chargers or outlets or you can't get to them, and some older airplanes don't have them, or there'll only be two for the whole row of three."

Don't pack too much

"Be sure to not pack too much when traveling," a flight attendant for United Airlines said.

Get to the airport early

"Give yourself plenty of time because feeling rushed is just gonna make your travel experience more stressful than it needs to be," the United flight attendant said.

Travel in the morning

"I tell people to travel in the morning," said Kevin Cain, a flight attendant for PSA Airlines. "Evening is when delays throughout the day have built up."

Bring your own entertainment

"Always bring your own entertainment and charging stuff," Cain said. "Sometimes your plane won't have Wi-Fi, so it's always good to download something offline on Netflix or bring an iPad if you have one."

Ask for another cup when being served ice

"Whenever you're being served ice, ask for them to serve it with another cup because the ice scoop is actually not very clean," said a flight attendant for a regional airline that works with United Airlines and American Airlines.

Don't drink hot tea or coffee

"Don't drink the coffee. Don't drink the hot tea. The water is not the best," the regional-airline flight attendant said.

Be over-prepared

"Travel is unpredictable," said a flight attendant for Alaska Airlines. "You never know what's going to happen."

How to add page numbers on Google Docs to organize your work

0
0

freelancer writing studying laptop

While probably not necessary for short documents, page numbers can play an important role in keeping your longer documents organized — especially if you're printing them out. Papers can fall out of the printing tray, and a missing page is much easier to identify when you know exactly which one it is, after all.

In Google Docs, adding page numbers is an easy task. And for those who already know where they want the page numbers to appear on the page, it should be quick to finish, too.

Here's what you'll need to do to add page numbers to a Google Doc.

How to add page numbers on Google Docs

This should only take a few seconds to accomplish:

  1. Go to docs.new, or open the Google Doc you want to add page numbers to.
  2. In the top toolbar, click "Insert."
  3. Hover over "Header & page number," then select "Page Number" followed by the icon which shows how you want your page numbers to look.

1 HOW TO ADD PAGE NUMBERS GOOGLE DOCS

The page numbers will then be added in the place you specified. If you want, you can format your page numbers with the bold, italics, underlining, and font style tools.

Alternatively, you can choose "Page Count" instead of "Page Number" — this will add a number, which will be the total number of pages currently contained within the document, to wherever your cursor is positioned.

From the "Header & page number" section, you can also add a header to your Google Doc. This will appear on the top of each page within the document. But it's worth noting that simply clicking on the top of any page will also open a header.

  • September 15 marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month in the US.
  • The US is home to 41 million Spanish speakers, and Hispanic visibility has grown in politics and media.
  • Here are the cities where more people speak Spanish than English-only.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

As Hispanic Heritage Month starts, Spanish-speaking and Latino families across the US will celebrate the month-long holiday.

Hispanic-Americans are described as people who descent from Spanish-speaking countries. According to the Pew Research Center, 41 million people speak Spanish in the US, and the majority of Latino adults are bilingual. In some areas of the US, especially in cities around the Southwest, you're more likely to hear Spanish than English.

Hispanic influence in politics has grown, as Hispanic Americans are projected to make up a little over 13% of the electorate for 2020, and 69% of Latinos voted democratic during the 2018 midterms

The US Census Bureau's American Community Survey asks over a million Americans each year dozens of questions about their social, demographic, and economic situations. One of the questions asks respondents to indicate what primary languages they speak.

Based on results from the 2013-2017 American Community Survey, the 22 metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas highlighted in the map above have more residents who speak Spanish than who just speak English and nothing else.

Here are the areas where there are more Spanish speakers than people who only speak English.

ipad using man

  • You can empty trash on an iPad in four different apps to free up valuable storage space.
  • You'll want to empty trash folders in Photos, Mail, Notes, and Files.
  • In these four apps, you'll have to delete selected data first, and then delete the data again from a trash, or "Recently Deleted," folder.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

Running out of storage space can seriously hinder your iPad's performance.

Not only will you no longer be able to take new pictures and add songs or movies, but you also won't be able to update most of your apps. Managing your memory usage is very important.

While you have the option to move some of your files to iCloud, even then you'll eventually have to manage data remaining on your iPad

To remove extra photos, emails, notes, and files, you will have to delete them twice: once in the main folder for the specific app and a second time from a trash folder.

Here's how to empty those trash folders on your iPad in four different apps.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

iPad (From $329.99 at Best Buy)

How to empty trash on an iPad in Photos

1. Open the Photos app.

2. First, delete any photos that you want to get rid of, either individually or all at once

3. Then, to empty your photo trash, tap on "Albums" along the bottom.

4. Scroll down to tap on "Recently Deleted" (should be at the very bottom). This will open the Recently Deleted album.

5. Tap on "Select" in the upper right corner.

6. It will then ask you if you want to completely remove them from your iPad by hitting "Delete All."

empty_ipad_trash17. Tap "Delete All" and your photo trash will be emptied.

How to empty trash on an iPad in Mail

1. Open the Mail app on your iPad.

2. Delete any messages you don't want from your inbox, or delete all of your emails at once. They will go to your Trash folder.

3. Tap on Mailboxes.

4. Tap on "Trash" under the mailboxes, in the left column. This will show messages in your Trash.

5. Tap on "Edit" in the top of the column.

6. Here you can completely clear out your trash by clicking on "Delete All".

A final hiding place for deleted data is in Files. In some cases, you might not even have realized or remembered that you downloaded files.

How to empty trash on an iPad in Files

1. Open the Files app (tap on the icon that looks like a file folder).

2. If you need to delete files, tap on Select, select the files you wish to delete, then tap "Delete" in the lower right corner.

3. To empty the trash, open the "Recently Deleted" subheading in the left column.

4. Tap on Select.

5. Tap "Delete All" in the bottom to empty the folder.

6. A box will ask you to reconfirm if you want to delete the items. By clicking "Delete" in this box, you will fully empty your iPad's Files trash.

NOW WATCH: Jeff Bezos is worth over $160 billion — here's how the world's richest man makes and spends his money

I asked a celebrity hair stylist how to use T3's hair rollers — and they gave me perfectly bouncy waves in 10 minutes

0
0

Untitled 2

  • I tried the T3's Volumizing Hair Rollers ($99) as a fast, easy way to get a blowout look without the time commitment, salon expense, or heat damage.
  • Celebrity hairstylist Laura Polko used these hair rollers to create Gigi Hadid's 2018 Met Gala look, so I asked her to walk me through how she did it before attempting to follow the steps.
  • Overall, even with some amateur mistakes made, the rollers gave me incredible body, shine, and curl in 10 minutes.
  • Like the company's $160 Bodywaver Curling Iron, the hot rollers are a good cheat code to getting that blowout look without the hassle.

For the last year, T3's Bodywaver Curling Iron has been my cheat code to getting a salon blowout look. That's because I can achieve it without either dropping the $50 per visit or needing the dexterity to wield a round brush and blow dryer simultaneously at home.

The Bodywaver's success led me to try the company's Volumizing Hair Rollers— which are slightly cheaper ($99.99 compared to $160) and even faster to use.

My memories of rollers before this experiment were restricted to childhood memories of going to sleep with tiny, spongy noodles clipped into my damp hair and waking up to a child star's Hollywood perm. But, spoiler alert: These aren't your mom's or your grandma's rollers. In the end, I came away impressed. Despite a few amateur mistakes, I had big, shiny curls in exchange for 10 minutes of doing basically nothing.

Everything you need to know about the Hair Rollers themselves

The Hair Rollers ($99.99) come in a travel- and storage-friendly set with eight rollers covered in velvet and eight crease-free clips to hold the rollers in place. Four of the rollers are 1.75-inches and four are 1.5-inches — the latter creating soft waves, and the former creating those big, volumized waves most often attached to Disney's animated princesses. They have two heat settings to cater to different hair types, and T3's signature HeatCore technology to ensure a balanced heat transfer so you aren't frying one area and missing another. After an hour, they'll also turn off automatically.

To figure out how to get the best possible results, I interviewed celebrity hairstylist Lauren Polko, who used the T3 hair rollers to create Gigi Hadid's 2018 Met Gala look, to learn her tricks of the trade. Then, I tried to mimic it at home.

How to get the best results from T3 Hot Rollers — according to a celebrity hairstylist:

According to Polko, this is the step-by-step process she uses on her clients:

  1. Start with hair that's been dried with a volumizing spray. There's no need to do a proper blowout, a rough dry works just fine.
  2. Concentrate on the top section. Start on the sides (read: near your temples) with the larger rollers, combing the hair out flat and straight on the roller and making sure the ends are smooth. Roll towards the head and clip in place.
  3. From temple to temple, use about three-four rollers in rows of roughly 1.5-inch sections each directed straight back until you've hit below the crown of the head using the same technique as before.
  4. Let sit for 10 minutes minimum, then give a spritz of light hairspray and take down.
  5. Shake out and use your hands and fingers to move into place.

As far as mistakes to avoid, Polko says it's really all about not using too much product. "You don't want hair heavy ... or stiff with strong-hold hairspray," she cautions. You'll also want to make sure the ends are fully rolled around the roller, or they'll wind up limp or bent.

My Experience using the T3 Volumizing Rollers at home:

IMG_0391

At home, after air-drying my hair with a little bit of heat-protecting spray, I plugged in the T3 device. During the couple of minutes it took to heat up, I brushed my hair smooth. Once ready, I popped out the rollers, rolled my hair into them (taking special care to keep the ends smooth), clipped them in place, and got ready for the rest of my day while they did their work. Ten minutes after I clipped the last roller in, I lightly sprayed hairspray over them and unrolled each one, gently twirling the curls into a more natural, cohesive shape as I did it. And that's about it.

I still have to finesse my form at the crown of my head because I failed to fully heed Polko's advice on the first try, but the above took me 10 minutes (of sitting with rollers in my hair) in the morning.

The few things I learned upfront are to start rolling in the middle of your hair if you have layers to avoid chunks falling out, and that while the rims are insulated, they're still hot to the touch — not prohibitively so, but you may want to use a glove if you're sensitive or they've been roasting in their cradle for awhile.

Lastly, I have a thick mass of hair. Hairstylists tend to call in reinforcements when tasked with cutting it down to a human shape. But, in the subsequent trials I did, I could usually do my full head of hair with just these eight rollers. If I'm being precise, I may need to reuse one or two. Even then, it still amounts to only 20 minutes of hands-off styling in total.

It'll take some time before the motion of rolling the Hot Rollers becomes natural, but even with some awkwardness, the finished result was great, and well-worth 10 minutes of prep. I did my makeup, got changed, and made my coffee while they were in. And it took me a fraction of the time — and much less heat damage — to achieve this look than using a hot tool.

The bottom line

All in all, I loved how easy and effective these rollers were. If you're looking for a lustrous, old-school-glamour blowout in ten minutes and minimal exposure to heat damage — and can justify $100 upfront instead of ongoing payments to a salon — I recommend checking these out for yourself. And while I hope my form would improve with continued use, it's worth saying these hot rollers can withstand some amateur mistakes and still deliver great body, shine, and big, bouncy curls. As time passes and your technique becomes more agile, you should theoretically get even better, faster, more exact results.

playstation 4

  • You can factory reset a PlayStation 4 to refresh the system if it's experiencing such significant errors that you can longer properly enjoy gaming.
  • You should also restore a PS4 to its factory settings before you sell, trade, or give away the console so that all of your personal data, photos and videos, and other information will remain private.
  • If you're resetting your PS4 to fix glitches, make sure to back up your data either using a memory drive or with the cloud, access to which requires a PlayStation Plus account.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

If your PS4 is crashing on you, experiencing all sorts of glitches, freezes, save errors, connectivity issues, and so on, a factory reset can restore the device to proper working order.

Factory resetting a PlayStation 4 will erase all of the data on the console, from save info to images and videos and more, so make sure you back up your console before doing a reset.

And if you're selling, trading, or giving away your PS4, you should do a factory reset precisely because it erases all of your personal information.

Either way, before doing the reset, make sure you deactivate the console as your primary unit, or you might later have issues accessing online content or re-loading your data onto a new or refreshed device.

You can deactivate the PS4 through the "PlayStation Network/Account Management" tab in the Settings menu. Hit the "Activate as Your Primary PS4" tab, and then select "Deactivate."

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

Traditional copper pans can be extremely expensive, but these under-$100 options use a slim copper core to achieve the same effect — here's why we recommend them

0
0

material copper cookware 2

  • Copper is a great cooking material because it heats up quickly and evenly, but it's usually pretty expensive.
  • Online kitchen brand Material has launched new stainless steel cookware that contains a copper core. This construction lets you take advantage of copper's powerful heat conduction properties without having to pay for the price or maintenance of copper.
  • We tried the two pans, the Classic Pan ($95-$105) and the Coated Pan ($95), and loved them for their durability, efficiency, and ease of use.

Copper cookware, while beautiful, can be expensive (a 10-inch pan from Mauviel, for example, retails for $250). However, the benefits of copper — namely, quick and even heat conduction — have many home cooks eyeing the powerful material for their pots and pans.

If you don't care much about the glossy orange look of copper but do want to take advantage of its cooking ability, you can get around the gulp-inducing price by looking for a pan with a copper core.

These are exactly the types of pans that Material chose to launch its cookware collection with. The online kitchen brand, which also sells cooking tools, knives, and countertop accessories, comes from an ideology of high-quality construction and thoughtful design. The new cookware expansion, called the 29 Collection (a reference to copper's atomic number), consists of two pans that replicate these qualities to great success.

material copper cookware 3

The pans are the type you'd use every day, the prerequisites of a thriving kitchen set-up.

The Classic Pan ($95-$105) comes in 10.5-inch and 12-inch sizes and has a copper core, which is surrounded by five-ply stainless steel, and a curved lip to allow for smooth pouring. It's oven-safe up to 500° F and dishwasher-safe.

The Coated Pan ($95) comes in a 10.5-inch size and has the same above characteristics. The only difference is that it also has a fume-free, Teflon-free nonstick coating that Material tested to be 37 times more durable than ceramic.

We tested The Classic Pan and The Coated Pan in our own kitchens — here's how they performed

material copper cookware 4

The Classic Pan: I tried the company's Classic Pan and was thoroughly impressed. I have attempted to cook for myself in the past, but I have a tendency to burn food that winds up sticking to the pan. I cooked a variety of dishes from shrimp and grits to meatball sliders in the Classic Pan and managed not to burn anything (I'm sure the copper core helped with heat retention and distribution and was a big part of the reason why my food was edible).

This stainless steel pan withstood me stirring my food with a fork and, while it did get a bit scraped up, it doesn't look terrible. I'm really good at burning both food and myself, but any time I touched the handle of this pan, it was relatively cool. At the end of the day, I realized that I actually enjoy cooking, so much so that I'm actually excited to cook for myself now and can do so successfully because of this pan. —Ciannah Gin, editorial fellow

material copper cookware

The Coated Pan: The most satisfying feelings in the world include inserting a USB the correct way the first time, coasting down a road without hitting a single red light for blocks, and lifting eggs off a slick pan. Every time I use Material's pan, I enjoy the singular satisfaction of a quick, smooth, and effortless cooking experience.

Because of its copper core, the pan heated up noticeably faster, and it distributed this heat evenly, too. I made corn cakes and even though they were spread out throughout the pan, the ones on the sides crisped as well and evenly as the ones closest to the burner. Since the rest of the pan is made from thick and durable stainless steel, it can be banged up a bit and should last you many years.

I have to commend Material for its expansion from accessories and tools like spatulas to everyday workhorses like pans. While I keep my kitchen stocked with a large variety of brands, I could easily see myself becoming a Material loyalist because of its well-rounded repertoire of products. —Connie Chen, reporter

The bottom line

Material's new cookware is the solution for anyone who wants to cook with copper but strives for practicality and cost efficiency. We found the pans were well-made and effective, especially for any meal that had to be made quickly and precisely. Get these pans and you'll find yourself eagerly waiting for Material's next new cookware drop.

According to TMZ, West did not pay full price for the ranch, but the sale amount is unknown.

Kim Kardashian West confirmed that her husband bought a ranch in Wyoming on NBC's "Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Wednesday.

A representative for West did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.

West and other members of the Kardashian-West-Jenner clan have previously been spotted in Jackson, as well as at the nearby luxury resort Amangani.

At Amangani, which features a heated outdoor infinity pool with stunning mountain views, a night's stay starts at an average of $975 and can go up to $2,100.

Kim Kardashian West confirmed her husband's purchase of the ranch on NBC's "Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Wednesday.

"We love Wyoming; it's always been such an amazing place," Kardashian West told Fallon. "My husband did just buy a ranch there. His dream and his vision is to move there. I love LA, so I envision summers; I envision some weekends. But yeah, we love it."

The reality-TV star said she recently visited the property "in the wilderness" and wasn't prepared for the lack of electricity and a bathroom.

"My phone dies — there's literally, like, no service, no nothing," Kardashian West told Fallon. "I'm peeing in a bottle because there's, like, no bathroom."

In a Vogue Arabia interview published 10 days ago, West had asked Kardashian West where she saw herself in 10 years, and she told him: "I see us living on a ranch in Wyoming, occasionally going to Palm Springs and our home in Los Angeles — and becoming a lawyer."

The ranch's listing says that Wyoming is "a top-tier, tax-friendly state for landownership and business."

USA Today recently ranked Wyoming as the most tax-friendly state for business, citing its lack of individual and corporate income tax and low property and sales taxes.

The monthly median rent for a studio in Manhattan this summer hit an astonishing 11-year high, and the city's prices are driving people away in droves

Manhattan Skyline

Regardless of the size of their apartment, renters in Manhattan are bound to spend a not-so-pretty penny.

According to a market report released by the real-estate brokerage Douglas Elliman, the median rent for a studio in Manhattan in July and August was $2,700. That number, as Bloomberg reported, is the highest its been since June 2008.

Read more: NYC rents just hit a 3-year high, and the city's prices are pushing everyone from millennials to wealthy Wall Street bankers away

As Business Insider previously reported, one year's worth of rent in Manhattan is more than three-quarters of the country's average annual salary, which is $47,060. Even in Inwood, the cheapest neighborhood in Manhattan, the average monthly rent is more than $1,600.

But Manhattan isn't the only borough seeing outrageously high rents.

In June, Brooklyn's median monthly face rent hit an all-time high of $3,000. To put the extremity of that price into perspective, nearly 80 years ago, the cost of rental housing in most places in Brooklyn ranged from $20 to $49 a month— that translates to around just $350 to $700 in today's dollars.

The high cost of living is driving people out of the city

New York City's sales market, like its rental market, is also outrageously expensive. In fact, prospective buyers who earn the city's average annual household income of $62,000 must save $3,100 per year for 36 years in order to afford a 20% down payment on a median-priced home, which, as of June, is $558,000.

And the wealthy are feeling the heat too.

According to a SmartAsset study, New York is the No. 1 state rich millennials are moving away from. The study, which defined rich millennials as people who are younger than 35 with an adjusted gross income of at least $100,000, found that 14,915 of them moved out of the state from 2015 to 2016.

Business Insider's Katie Warren previously reported that wealthy New Yorkers looking to avoid the city's high taxes can save more than $1 million by moving to Florida.

Teeth-straightening startup SmileDirectClub just tumbled in its stock market debut (SDC)

SmileDirectClub cofounders Alex Fenkell and Jordan Katzman with CEO David Katzman, center.

SmileDirectClub tumbled in its trading debut on Thursday, a rare setback for a buzzy startup amid a wave of digital health IPOs.

After selling shares to investors for $23 apiece, the stock closed down 28% at $16.67.

SmileDirectClub sold 58.5 million shares, raising $1.3 billion in the offering. At its closing price, the company was worth $6.4 billion.

Read more:SmileDirectClub's IPO could make the startup's top investors into billionaires.

The idea behind SmileDirectClub is to make straightening teeth more affordable by cutting out the steps of going in person to a dentist or an orthodontist to get braces or other alignments.

SmileDirectClub sells clear aligners, an alternative to what you might get from an orthodontist. While it typically costs $3,000 to $7,000 to get traditional braces or Invisalign-brand aligners, SmileDirectClub goes for a fraction of that — you can either pay $1,895 up front or $2,290 spread out over two years.

In October, SmileDirectClub raised $380 million from the private-equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice and the venture firms Kleiner Perkins and Spark Capital. The round valued the company at $3.2 billion, up from $275 million just two years earlier.

The company was started by Alex Fenkell and Jordan Katzman in 2014.

An unexpected turn for an otherwise white-hot digital health IPO run

Up until now, most of the digital health companies that have gone public in 2019 have had successful first days of trading. Diabetes-technology company Livongo surged in its first day of trading, closing up 36%. Gene-sequencing technology company 10x Genomics also made its debut on the public markets on Thursday, closing up 35%.

The drop was an unexpected turn for the company, which had priced its shares at $23 apiece on Wednesday, above its initial range of $19-$22.

SmileDirectClub chief financial officer Alex Wailes said that during the IPO road show, investors had questions about the market the company's going for, which tends to skew more toward a broader market of people who want to make minor cosmetic fixed to their appearance.

Wailes said that those investors who signed on during the road show were supportive of the company's growth as well as the margins the company has on its business.

"They were incredibly supportive of the growth we've had in the business over the last several years," Wailes said.

According to the IPO filing, SmileDirectClub's net loss widened from $33.8 million in the first half of 2018 to $52.9 million in 2018. The company increased its customer count from 22,000 in 2016 to about 246,000 in the first half of this year.

This $80 dog crate doubles as an end table — most of my guests don’t even realize what it is

Casual Home Wooden Dog Crate

  • My family and I love the $82 Casual Home Wooden Dog Crate.
  • It blends in with the rest of our furniture and most people don't immediately realize it's a dog crate. It also does double duty as an end table.
  • This dog crate isn't just attractive but it's sturdy and durable too.

When my husband and I brought our adorable Aussie doodle puppy home, we were completely smitten. Suzy was instantly a member of the family.

While we worked on teaching her simple commands and housebreaking during the day, we struggled with the nighttime routine. After she came home, we realized she wouldn't be able to sleep in our bed or bedroom, mostly due to our moderate dander allergies.

We learned the hard way that letting her have free range of the living room while we slept was not an option either. She peed, pooped, and destroyed one of our favorite couch pillows.

We decided to get a dog crate after we realized she couldn't sleep in our bedroom or living room — we liked it so much that we now have two of them

We weren't immediately keen on obtaining a crate for Suzy, but after researching the positive effects that crate training has on a dog, we decided it was something we needed to invest in.

She would have her own comfy den, a place where she could safely sleep at night. When I began my search, it was apparent that there are two kinds of crates that are readily available — the metal wire crate and the plastic kennel. We didn't want either of those in our home since they would be an eyesore and would stand out way too much. Thankfully, while in a frantic online search, I found the Casual Home Wooden Dog Crate ($81.29).

We liked it so much that we bought it not once, but twice. There was nothing at all wrong with the first one that we bought, but Suzie just got too big for the first one we bought her, so when she reached her full-grown size at around 11 months, we purchased a larger one that would hold her 40-pounds and 18-inches-long frame comfortably.

They double as end tables and most of our guests don't realize they're actually dog crates

This isn't merely a dog crate — it doubles as an end table. Ours fits nicely next to our large brown leather couch, and most of our friends who visit have no idea that it's our dog's crate and at first glance, they assume it's just a piece of our living room furniture.

We use it to hold the big coffee table books we're currently reading (such as "Marc Davis in His Own Words: Imagineering the Disney Theme Parks" and "Entertaining With Disney: Exceptional Events From Mickey Mouse to Moana!") as well as drinks and snacks. We also use it as our catch-all area for our keys and sunglasses.

While we opted for the black finish, there's also a shade called "espresso" (basically a dark wood shade) and white. It also comes in five sizes, though the sizing depends on what color you choose. And this isn't made of flimsy material either — it's made of solid wood.

I have the small one at 20 inches wide, 27.5 inches deep, and 24.5 inches high ($81.29), and a larger one at 24 inches wide, 36.5 inches deep, and 29.25 inches high ($119.08).

All four sides of the crate have open wooden slats so that Suzie has plenty of air and she can see in all directions. We preferred the wooden slats since it looked more organic and natural than the ones that have metal bars, which have a more prison-like appearance.

It's easy to put together and clean, and looks great in our home too

Suzie hasn't had any messes in her crate, but we've wiped down the interior many times to clean out excess fur and debris. The wood has a smooth veneer so it's very easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth.

If you've put together Ikea furniture, then you can probably manage to build this pet crate — all you need is a Phillips screwdriver. But I should mention that with our crates, a couple of the holes weren't drilled in precisely the right spot, but we were able to wriggle the pieces into place.

Overall, it took about an hour to assemble. I should point out that the sturdy wood makes it difficult to move around, so once you've decided on a spot for the crate, it'd be hard to keep pushing it around your home.

Since the crate is made out of solid wood, it's really sturdy and looks just like our regular furniture. We've put her in there when another dog that we didn't know was at the house, and even as our Suzy tried to escape by pushing the door, she couldn't get it open.

The other thing we love about this piece is that it does double duty as our dog's den and a frequently-used end table. If you want to expand the crate's usage, Casual Home also makes other items like a wood lattice pet gate and pet feeder.

I'd recommend this dog crate for any dog owner — or even future dog owners who are planning ahead

If you're looking for nice dog crate, the Casual Home Wooden Dog Crate is a tasteful option.

It fits in with many types of home décor and lets your dog's den blend in nicely with other furniture. We love how it does double duty in our home, and is an overall great investment — Suzie no longer destroys our shoes and couch pillows because she has her own space at night now.

I tried Banza's Chickpea Rice and found it to be an easy, healthy substitute for the rice you already know

  • Banza, the startup behind the now-famous chickpea pasta, recently released a chickpea-based rice alternative.
  • Banza Rice is available in a six-pack on Amazon for $24, and comes in two varieties: Chickpea and "Tricolor Legume" (both gluten-free).
  • Compared to white rice, Banza rice has fewer calories, sodium, and carbs. It also has considerably more protein and fiber.
  • Below, you'll find a full rundown. But, here's a tiny review upfront: Banza rice is close to rice but closest to orzo, and it's a delicious, protein-packed alternative I'd recommend trying.

In the future, when humans have harnessed the full powers of science and rendered franchise pizza calorie-less, we may finally experience completely healthy pasta and white rice. But, until then (or, even now), we have the cheat code of Banza.

If you're familiar with the startup, it's probably because you've heard of Banza's chickpea pasta. It tastes much like the original but has 25 grams of protein, 13 grams of fiber, and 40% fewer net carbs than traditional noodles. Unsurprisingly, the pasta has become very successful — launching Banza into the number one spot for the fastest-selling pasta in Whole Foods.

Now, the company has expanded with Banza Rice, a healthy alternative also made out of 90% chickpeas.

Banza Rice is currently on Amazon in a $24 six-pack. It's the Darwinian result of rigorous research and testing, including a month-long in-store test in Whole Foods that cut through four different product concepts and two different packaging styles to contribute to the final offer.

According to Banza's CEO & Co-Founder, Brian Rudolph, the Banza mission is simple: "[any new product] needs to be genuinely nutritious and disruptive to the grocery aisle, but not disruptive to the dinner table. It should be easy, versatile, and familiar." Ultimately, it's about bringing legumes, the primary protein source found in the "Blue Zones" (a term for where people live the longest), to as many people as possible.

You can pick up Banza's rice alternative in two varieties: regular Chickpea and "Tricolor Legume," which mixes chickpeas, red lentils, and green peas. This review will focus on the classic Chickpea.

What Banza Rice is:

Banza Rice is rice made from chickpeas, potato starch, xantham gum, and sea salt — but 90% of it is chickpeas. It has fewer calories, sodium, and carbs than white rice, as well as more fiber and more protein. It has three-times the protein, two-times the fiber, and nearly 30% fewer net carbs than brown rice, according to the company. It also has more protein and fiber than quinoa.

What it's like to cook:

In short: it's pretty easy, but you may have to babysit it with a few stirs.

Banza rice should be prepared over the stovetop rather than in a rice cooker. Pour six cups of salted water into a pot, bring it to a boil, reduce the heat, and pour in your Banza rice. Cook and stir it for five to six minutes, and then drain using a fine mesh strainer. After that, rinse it with water and return rice to your pot to fluff with a fork. If you're adding ingredients, finish in a sauté pan with your veggies, etc.

What it's like to eat:

Once prepared, Banza's rice tastes impressively like white rice, though it's perhaps the closest in consistency and shape to orzo. It's not as chewy as rice, but its consistency comes very close — you probably won't detect any difference in dishes like grain bowls. In paella and risotto-style dishes, you'll probably find it blends beautifully. You'll probably still notice that you're using an alternative — though that's not bad if you're willing to bend slightly on texture. It's also filling, unlike other healthy alternatives like cauliflower, which can sometimes have the aura of plant-based shaved ice.

Strictly in terms of taste, Banza rice has a faintly nutty, savory taste that gives it a lot more body than traditional rices — but in my opinion, it wasn't overwhelmingly present.

Cons to consider:

This chickpea alternative is more expensive than white rice, and depending on your budget, it may not be a comfortable ongoing purchase. If you're just trying to eat a bit healthier, you could compromise with picking up a six-pack for $23.94 and phasing this in a couple of times per week.

The bottom line:

Overall, Banza Rice is delicious, low-maintenance, still relatively accessible at about $4 per bag, and packed with more fiber and protein as well as fewer calories and sodium. If you're on the fence, I recommend trying it.

How to manually eject a disc from any Xbox One model using a paperclip

Xbox One

  • If your Xbox One is working properly, all you need to do to eject a disc is press the eject button beside the disc slot.
  • If your Xbox One isn't allowing you to eject a disc, shut it down and restart it, then try to eject the game again.
  • You can also manually eject a disc from an Xbox One console by using a paperclip to press a concealed forced eject button.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

When it's time to switch games, a quick press of your Xbox One's eject button should be all it takes to remove a disc. The eject button found immediately to the right of the disc slot itself, and requires only a gentle push to use.

If your Xbox One disc fails to eject when you press that button, your first step should be to shut then system down, turn it on again, and then try again to remove the disc. If it still fails, it's time to get physical.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

Xbox One S (From $249.99 at Best Buy)

How to eject a disc from your Xbox One manually

1. Power off the Xbox One and disconnect all cables from the console.

2. Get a large paperclip and uncoil it so you have a straight section at least two inches long.

3. Locate the eject hole, which is located in a different spot depending on what console you have.

  • If you have an original Xbox One, it'll be on the side of the console, right next to the disk eject button. You'll need to be looking at the side of the console directly to find it.

Screen_Shot_2019 09 13_at_10_08_07_AM

  • On a Xbox One S, where the side of the console is filled with holes, you're going to want to slide your paperclip into hole on the side. It should be the hole that's seventh from the right and third from the bottom, but if you can't find it, try holes around that spot. Microsoft themselves recommend starting with "the hole that's second from the right and second from the bottom." If you can't reach the button, try inserting the paperclip at a slight tilt.

  • On the Xbox One X, the manual eject hole is in plain sight, just below the grill on the left side of the console.

4. Insert the paperclip and gently press inward until a sliver of the disc protrudes from the slot.

5. Grab the disc (ideally with a clean, dry cloth) and slide it out of the system.

Make sure you check the disc for any sticky residue, stickers that make it too thick, or any other issues before you play the game again.
