How to set a print area in Microsoft Excel to print a specific section of your spreadsheet

$

laptop Microsoft Excel

By its form, a spreadsheet enables you to spread out and add data to any cell.

However, if you don't manage your print setup, this can create print jobs with page breaks where you don't want them and reams of blank pages as Excel works its way down to the random character you entered by accident in cell Z2647.

The Print Area feature in Excel is a powerful tool that makes it easier to print just the data you need by allowing you to select part of a spreadsheet to print.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

Microsoft Office (From $139.99 at Best Buy)

MacBook Pro (From $1,299.99 at Best Buy)

Lenovo IdeaPad 130 (From $299.99 at Best Buy)

How to set print area in Excel

For the sake of this example, we use a small set of data about employees of a fictitious company. The dataset includes position, division, city, and date of hire. You could sort and print the data multiple ways. You might want a list with just the employees hired before or after a certain date, everyone in a certain position, or employees of a certain division.

We sorted employees by city and selected just those located in Atlanta to print. Here's how to do that using the Print Area button.

1. Click on "Page Layout" in the top menu to open its menu ribbon.

How to set print area in Excel

2. Highlight the cells you want to print by clicking on the first cell and holding down shift on your Mac or PC keyboard while clicking the other cells.

3. Click on the "Print Area" button in the top menu. Choose "Set Print Area." Hit "Enter" or "Return" on your keyboard to set the print area.

How to check the print area in Excel

1. When you click "File" in the top menu bar and the "Print," you'll see a preview of what Excel will print. This will help you determine if you set the right print area correctly.

2. You can also check your print area in the "Page Setup" window in the top menu.

3. Click on the "Page Setup" button. A window will pop up with several ways you can modify your page setup.

How to set print area in Excel

4. Click on "Sheet" on the right.

5. The first field under the Sheet tab is "Print Area." This field displays your print area, starting with the top box on the left and ending with the bottom box on the right.

How to set print area in Excel

6. You will also see a moving dotted line around the area you selected to print.

7. If you want to change your print area, click the icon on the right of the "Print Area" field and then highlight the cells you want to print. Now you can print that specific by clicking the File tab and selecting the "Print" option from the drop-down menu.

Pro tip: when you finish printing, click the "Print Area" button again and choose "Clear Print Area." Otherwise, your spreadsheet tab will retain the print area you selected and the next time you go to print data you'll get only that limited data, unless you set a new print area.

What makes these deals great:

kohls black friday deals

  1. Echo Dot, $22.99 (originally $49.99) [You save $27] Our reviewer calls this the best entry-level smart-home hub on the market. It may be small and budget-friendly, but it still packs just as much brilliance as its siblings. Basically, it does almost everything you need and nothing you don't at a very reasonable price, especially with this deal. Find the Insider Picks buying guide to the best Amazon Echo devices here. You'll find the same price at Best Buy, and $22 at Amazon and Target.
  2. Instant Pot Duo Nova 7-in-1 6-Quart, $64.99 (originally $129.99) [You save $65] plus $15 in Kohl's Cash. The Instant Pot Duo is our favorite multicooker on the market. It's a super-easy way to prepare quick meals and can accommodate ribs, soups, beans, rice, poultry, yogurt, desserts, and pretty much anything else you might be craving. The $35 matches the best Black Friday deals we saw last year. You'll find it for the same price at Amazon but without the benefit of Kohl's Cash.
  3. PowerBeats Pro Totally Wireless Headphones, $199.99 (originally $249.99) [You save $50] plus $60 in Kohl's Cash. The Beats Powerbeats Pro headphones are largely considered to be some of the best wireless earbuds you can buy. They not only sound great (especially for the price), but have Apple's H1 chip built into them for flawless connectivity.
  4. Beats Studio3 Wireless Headphones, $279.99 (originally $349.99)[You save $70], plus $75 in Kohl's Cash. The Beats Studio3 Wireless headphones come in a ton of colors and are an improvement on older models. This pair has better sound quality, noise cancelation, and battery life. Fully charged, you'll get up to 22 hours of play time. A 10-minute charge translates to 3 hours of playtime on low, and an Apple W1 chip makes it simple to pair with Apple devices. You'll find the same price, minus the extra Kohl's cash, at Amazon and Macy's right now, but if color doesn't matter to you, you can get this pair in grey, blue, or tan for $199 for a limited time at Best Buy, with three months of free Apple Music for new subscribers.
  5. Fitbit Charge 3, $99.99 (originally $149.99) [You save $50] plus $30 in Kohl's Cash. The Fitbit Charge 3 offers all the activity tracking, a heart rate monitor, and just the right screen size for most people. Our reviewer called the Charge 3 Fitbit's best product to date.
  6. Google Nest Cam Indoor Security Camera, $159.99 (originally $199.99) [You save $40] plus $45 in Kohl's Cash. The popular Nest Cam is great for getting notifications when there's movement in your home while you're away or telling your dog to get off the couch. You'll see the same price at Target, Amazon, and Walmart, minus the perks of Kohl's Cash.
  7. Google Nest Learning Thermostat, $179.99 (originally $249.99) [You save $70] plus $45 Kohl's Cash. The Google Nest Learning Thermostat isn't the cheapest thing in the world, but it's one of those devices that will help you save money (and pay for itself) over time. When choosing between thermostats, our reviewer writes, "Really, what it comes down to is which smart home ecosystem you have set up. If you're a Google Assistant user, then the Nest Learning Thermostat is the way to go."
  8. Google Home Smart Light starter kit, $25 (originally $55) [You save $30] All the tech you need and nothing you don't to voice-activate your home lighting. At this price, you're barely spending more than you would on some eco-friendly lightbulbs, but entering a whole and brave new world.
  9. HP DeskJet 3639 All-in-One Printer, $29.99 (originally $79.99) [You save $50] What's to say? The HP Deskjet has been serving us all well through its many iterations, and while there have been no huge technological advances in home printers of its sort, you'll have a hard time beating this sale price.
  10. Amazon Fire TV Stick Streaming Media Player, $19.99 (originally $39.99) [You save $20] The streaming stick that instantly turns your TV into a viewing platform for hundreds of thousands of shows and movies has never been more affordable. Even at full price, we think it's worth it.
  11. JBL Charge 4 Portable Bluetooth Speaker, $99.99 (originally $179.99) [You save $80] plus $30 in Kohl's Cash. Waterproof, loud, and durable, JBL makes some of the best portable Bluetooth speakers, and at half price, now's as good of a time as any to pick one up.
  12. Dyson V8 Animal Cord-Free Vacuum, $249.99 (originally $399.99) [You save $150] plus $60 in Kohl's Cash. Dyson's been at the top of the vacuum game for a very long time, probably because the brand makes some of the longest-lasting, most powerful vacuums on the market. "The Dyson V8 Animal Cord-Free Vacuum is quieter and more powerful than just about any other vacuum I've ever used, corded or not," writes our reviewer. Find our review of the vacuum here.
  13. iRobot Roomba 960 Wi-Fi Connected Robot Vacuum, $454.74 [You save $275.25], plus $135 in Kohl's Cash with the promo code "GIVETHANKS" at checkout. The iRobot Roomba 960 is the best high-end robot vacuum cleaner in our opinion. It cleans your entire first floor without stopping as it moves from room to room. It'll run for 75 minutes before going to charge itself back up. You ultimately save about $80 more at Kohl's if you use the Kohl's Cash, but you'll save more with the $399 price at Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, or Amazon if you don't.
  14. Xbox One S 1TB Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Gaming Console Bundle, $199.99 (originally $299.99) [You save $100], plus $60 in Kohl's Cash. One of the trendiest video game bundles you'll find this year, this comes with an Xbox One S Console, wireless controller, full-game download, and more. It has better range, 4K Ultra HD Blue-ray and video resolution, and better controllers. We found the same price, minus the Kohl's Cash, at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Microsoft, and Overstock
  15. Take 25% off retro handheld games and gaming systems: If you're lamenting the days of old, when VR was just a pipedream and a simple number of pixels occupied video game screens, you're in luck. They're back on the scene, and they're 25% off for Black Friday. Have a ball.

How we selected the best deals at Kohl's:

  1. We only chose products that meet our high standard of coverage, and that we've either used ourselves or researched carefully.
  2. We compared the prices against other retailers like Target and Amazon and only included the deals that are the same or better (not including promotional discounts that come from using certain credit cards).
  3. All deals are at least 20% off, with the occasional exception for products that are rarely discounted or provide an outsized value.

mark zuckerberg books

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has a single mission: to connect people around the world.

It's one reason why he decided to launch a book club in January 2015, with a reading list that focused on "different cultures, beliefs, histories, and technologies."

Although the birth of his daughter, Max, kept him from hitting his goal of a book every two weeks, he ended 2018 with 23 selections in his A Year of Books reading group. During the summer of 2019, he recommended another book.

We've put together a list of his picks and why he thinks everyone should read them:

'The Muqaddimah' by Ibn Khaldun

"The Muqaddimah," which translates to "The Introduction," was written in 1377 by the Islamic historian Khaldun. It's an attempt to strip away biases of historical records and find universal elements in the progression of humanity.

Khaldun's revolutionary scientific approach to history established him as one of the fathers of modern sociology and historiography.

"While much of what was believed then is now disproven after 700 more years of progress, it's still very interesting to see what was understood at this time and the overall worldview when it's all considered together," Zuckerberg writes.

'The New Jim Crow' by Michelle Alexander

Alexander is a law professor at Ohio State University and a civil-rights advocate who argues in her book that the "war on drugs" has fostered a culture in which nonviolent black males are overrepresented in prison, and then are treated as second-class citizens once they are freed.

"I've been interested in learning about criminal justice reform for a while, and this book was highly recommended by several people I trust," Zuckerberg writes.

'Why Nations Fail' by Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson

"Why Nations Fail" is an overview of 15 years of research by MIT economist Daren Acemoglu and Harvard political scientist James Robinson, and was first published in 2012.

The authors argue that "extractive governments" use controls to enforce the power of a select few, while "inclusive governments" create open markets that allow citizens to spend and invest money freely, and that economic growth does not always indicate the long-term health of a country.

Zuckerberg's interest in philanthropy has grown alongside his wealth in recent years, and he writes that he chose this book to better understand the origins of global poverty.

'The Rational Optimist' by Matt Ridley

"The Rational Optimist," first published in 2010, is the most popular and perhaps the most controversial of popular-science writer Matt Ridley's books.

In it, he argues that the concept of markets is the source of human progress, and that progress is accelerated when they are kept as free as possible. The resulting evolution of ideas will consistently allow humankind to improve its living conditions, despite the threats of climate change and overpopulation.

Zuckerberg says that he picked up this book because it posits the inverse theory of "Why Nations Fail," which argues that social and political forces control economic ones.

"I'm interested to see which idea resonates more after exploring both frameworks," Zuckerberg writes.

'Portfolios of the Poor' by Daryl Collins, Jonathan Morduch, Stuart Rutherford, and Orlanda Ruthven

Researchers Daryl Collins, Jonathan Morduch, Stuart Rutherford, and Orlanda Ruthven spent 10 years studying the financial lives of the lowest classes of Bangladesh, India, and South Africa.

A fundamental finding that they include in "Portfolios of the Poor" is that extreme poverty flourishes in areas not where people live dollar to dollar or where poor purchasing decisions are widespread, but instead arises where they lack access to financial institutions to store their money.

"It's mind-blowing that almost half the world — almost 3 billion people — live on $2.50 a day or less. More than one billion people live on $1 a day or less," Zuckerberg writes. "I hope reading this provides some insight into ways we can all work to support them better as well."

'World Order' by Henry Kissinger

In former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger's 2014 book, "World Order," the 91-year-old analyzes the ways different parts of the world have understood the concept of empire and political power for centuries, and how the modern global economy has brought them together in often tense or violent ways.

It's "about foreign relations and how we can build peaceful relationships throughout the world," Zuckerberg writes. "This is important for creating the world we all want for our children, and that's what I'm thinking about these days."

'The Varieties of Religious Experience' by William James

William James (1849-1919) is "considered by many to be the most insightful and stimulating of American philosophers," according to the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy from the University of Tennessee.

"The Varieties of Religious Experience" is a collection of written lectures that explore the religious consciousness and the mechanics of how people use religion as a source of meaning, compelling them to move onward through life with energy and purpose.

"When I read 'Sapiens,' I found the chapter on the evolution of the role of religion in human life most interesting and something I wanted to go deeper on," Zuckerberg writes.

'Creativity, Inc.' by Ed Catmull

"Creativity, Inc." is the story of Pixar, written by one of the computer-animation giant's founders.

Catmull intersperses his narrative with valuable wisdom on management and entrepreneurialism, and argues that any company should consciously avoid hampering their employees' natural creativity.

"I love reading first-hand accounts about how people build great companies like Pixar and nurture innovation and creativity," Zuckerberg writes.

'Sapiens' by Yuval Noah Harari

First published in 2014, "Sapiens" is a critically acclaimed international best seller by Hebrew University of Jerusalem historian Harari. He uses his book to track the evolution of Homo sapiens from hunter-gatherers into self-empowered "gods" of the future.

"Following the Muqaddimah, which was a history from the perspective of an intellectual in the 1300s, 'Sapiens' is a contemporary exploration of many similar questions," Zuckerberg writes.

'The Structure of Scientific Revolutions' by Thomas S. Kuhn

If there was ever a philosophy book to read by a physicist, it's probably "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions."

Since its initial publication in 1962, this look at the evolution of science and the effect it has on the modern world has become "one of the most cited academic books of all time," according to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy. Zuckerberg thinks that being aware of how scientific breakthroughs are the catalysts for social progression can be a "force for social good."

Kuhn's book is best known for introducing the phrase "paradigm shift," representing instances in scientific history when a perspective was fundamentally shifted, like when quantum physics replaced Newtonian mechanics.

'Dealing with China' by Henry M. Paulson Jr.

Zuckerberg has been intensely fascinated with Chinese culture over the past several years. He's been learning to speak Mandarin Chinese and has said that one of his long-term goals is convincing the Chinese government to let its people use Facebook.

"Dealing with China," by the former US Treasury secretary, explores China's recent rise in global influence and how it affects the world.

"Over the last 35 years, China has experienced one of the greatest economic and social transformations in human history," Zuckerberg writes. "Hundreds of millions of people have moved out of poverty. By many measures, China has done more to lift people out of poverty than the whole rest of the world combined."

'The Beginning of Infinity' by David Deutsch

Zuckerberg's final selection of the year was Oxford physicist David Deutsch's "The Beginning of Infinity," a sprawling look at the progress of humanity following the Scientific Revolution. It touches on everything from art and science to politics and philosophy.

Deutsch concludes that human potential is infinite, perhaps the purest expression of the optimism regarding the fate of humanity that connects all of the selections in A Year of Books.

'The Better Angels of Our Nature' by Steven Pinker

Zuckerberg admits that this 800-page, data-rich book from a Harvard psychologist can seem intimidating.

But the writing is actually easy to get through, and he thinks that Pinker's study of how violence has decreased over time despite being magnified by a 24-hour news cycle and social media is something that can offer a life-changing perspective.

It should be noted that Bill Gates also considers this one of the most important books he's ever read.

'Genome' by Matt Ridley

Ridley is the only author to appear on Zuckerberg's list twice.

His 1990 book "Genome" is an exploration of the evolution of genes and the growing field of genetics.

"This book aims to tell a history of humanity from the perspective of genetics rather than sociology," Zuckerberg writes. "This should complement the other broad histories I've read this year."

'The End of Power' by Moisés Naím

Zuckerberg launched his book club with this lofty title from Naím, former executive director of the World Bank and senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

It's a historical investigation of the shift of power from authoritative governments, militaries, and major corporations to individuals. This is clearly seen in what's now become a Silicon Valley cliché: the disruptive startup.

"The trend towards giving people more power is one I believe in deeply," Zuckerberg writes.

'On Immunity' by Eula Biss

Zuckerberg says that Biss' investigation into the benefits of vaccination is necessary to read, considering the anti-vaccination movement in the US and parts of Europe.

"The science is completely clear: Vaccinations work and are important for the health of everyone in our community," Zuckerberg writes, adding that this book was highly recommended to him by scientists and public-health workers.

"This book explores the reasons why some people question vaccines, and then logically explains why the doubts are unfounded and vaccines are in fact effective and safe," he says.

Bell Labs' research has won it the most Nobel Prizes of any laboratory in history, with seven in physics and another in chemistry.

Zuckerberg writes that he chose the book because he's "very interested in what causes innovation — what kinds of people, questions, and environments."

'The Three-Body Problem' by Cixin Liu

"The Three-Body Problem" was first published in China in 2008, and the English translation that came out last year won the 2015 Hugo Award for Best Novel, an award for sci-fi book of the year.

It's set during Mao Zedong's Cultural Revolution and kicks off when an alien race decides to invade Earth after the Chinese government covertly sends a signal into space. It's notable because it's been reported to be indicative of a cultural shift in China, where rapid modernization and progress have captured the public's imagination.

Zuckerberg writes that it's a fun break from some of the heavier material he's been reading in his book club.

'Gang Leader for a Day' by Sudhir Venkatesh

Venkatesh is a Columbia University sociology professor who, in a radical sociological experiment, embedded himself into a Chicago gang in the 1990s.

"The more we all have a voice to share our perspectives, the more empathy we have for each other and the more we respect each other's rights," Zuckerberg writes.

"The Player of Games" was first published in 1988 and is the second in the "Culture" series. It explores what a civilization would look like if hyper-advanced technology was created to serve human needs and surpassed human capabilities.

Zuckerberg writes that he went with a sci-fi pick as a "change of pace." The novel is also one of Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk's favorite books because of its entertaining way of exploring plausible advancements in technology.

"It explores important topics around how energy works, how our production and use might evolve, and how this affects climate change," Zuckerberg writes, noting that he also plans on reading Smil's book "Making the Modern World."

'Rational Ritual' by Michael Suk-Young Chwe

Zuckerberg thinks that this book by UCLA economist Michael Suk-Young Chwe can help its readers learn how to best use social media.

"The book is about the concept of 'common knowledge' and how people process the world not only based on what we personally know, but what we know other people know and our shared knowledge as well," Zuckerberg writes.

Chwe's idea may sound complicated, but it's essentially a breakdown of the psychology behind people's interactions with others in public settings, and how they use these communities and rituals to help form their own identities.

Zuckerberg recommended this book as part of a summer 2019 reading list compiled by NBC's Dylan Byers.

"It's about the competition to electrify the nation between Edison, Westinghouse and Tesla," Zuckerberg told Byers. "Graham is a great storyteller."

His recommendation drew ridicule, as the book celebrates Edison trying to preserve his electricity monopoly. Critics drew parallels to Zuckerberg's control over Facebook.

Note that these sale prices don't reflect additional savings you might get for having store credit cards with rewards, like Target's RedCard or Amazon's store card, or cash back, like Kohl's Cash.

Why these are the best Roomba deals:

1. iRobot Roomba 670, $197 at Walmart (originally $329.99) [You save $132.99]

If you're looking for an efficient Roomba under $200, the 670 model is a slightly older entry-level robot vacuum but doesn't skimp on the features. It still has powerful suction with a three-stage cleaning process, multiple brush heads for various surfaces, and Wi-Fi, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant compatibility so you control it no matter where you are.

2. iRobot Roomba 675, $199.99 at Amazon and Lowe's (originally $269) [You save $69.01]

The 675 is considered to be a newer version of the 670 with all the same features. It was as low as $170 earlier this year, and Lowe's and Amazon have dropped the price down to $199.99 for Black Friday.

3. iRobot Roomba 690, $249.99 at Target (originally $349.99) [You save $100]

The 690 has all the perks of the 675 and 670 models, but the Dirt Detect technology is better so you'll get a superior clean, and barriers so you can indicate any no-go zones. Read our review of the Roomba 690 to see why it was the best overall robot vac in our buying guide.

4. iRobot Roomba e5 5150, $279 at Amazon; $279.99 at Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, and Target (originally $374.99) [You save at least $95]

This is a solid deal on a mid-tier robot vac and is the brand's replacement for the 800 series models. It's five times more powerful than the 675 and 690 models and has a high-efficiency filter that gets 99% of dust, mold, and dog and cat allergens.

5. iRobot Roomba 960, $399 at Amazon and Walmart; $399.99 at Bed Bath & Beyond and Target (originally $649.99) [You save at least $250]

This model has an even more advanced version of the Dirt Detect tech found in the 675 and 690, but with lots of extra features. It can be paired with the app to show you which areas of your space were cleaned, learns your floor plan to clean more efficiently every time, self-dock and recharge when it's low on battery, and even resume cleaning after charging.

Is a Roomba worth buying?

In a word: Yes.

Our reviewers who have tested different versions of Roombas all say that it's super convenient to run the robot vac while they're at work or just in another room of their house and know that dirt, dust, and all sorts of crumbs will get sucked up off their floors. Check out our reviews of the 980 and the top-of-the-line self-cleaning i7+ for more.

In fact, Insider Picks' VP of Commerce Breton Fischetti even goes as far as to say this:

"The Roomba is the single best apartment purchase I've made in the last couple of years. I set it to run a few times a week while I am at work, and I love getting the app notification that it's finished cleaning. It makes me feel like I've done chores even though I haven't, and I'm always shocked by how much stuff it picks up.

You'd think running it frequently would mean that it would always be empty but the amount of general dust that accumulates every day is always surprising. My allergies are better because of it. If you have a pet, like my brother, it's even more impactful. He bought one after I showed him mine and loves it."

When is the exact date of Black Friday?

The date of Black Friday changes each year. This year, Black Friday lands on Friday, November 29.

But like many other retail holidays, Black "Friday" really starts a few days, or even earlier at some stores, before the real event. The high anticipation for deals is enough to make retailers launch their sales early.

That's probably better for shoppers anyway. It means they have extra time to shop the countless online sales at their leisure, rather than try to cram all their shopping into one hectic day.

What time does Black Friday start?

Here's when Black Friday starts at various retailers. While a handful of stores start their Black Friday sales on Thanksgiving Day, there are also many that are not open on the holiday.

How long do Black Friday sales last?

Again, don't be fooled by the name that suggests it's a single day. Black Friday sales usually last at least a few days, whether they start early or continue on until Cyber Monday.

What else can I learn about Black Friday?

The size and style of a font is often key to readability and eye comfort, so it stands to reason that you may want to tweak the font settings on your devices.

Surprisingly, very few mobile devices offer much in the way of font customization.

Yet the Samsung Galaxy S10 is a refreshing exception to the rule: Not only can you adjust the size of your phone's system font, but you can also completely replace it with the font of your choice.

The wealth gap is one of the defining issues in the US right now, but proposals that punish the wealthy could be focusing on the wrong part of the problem

$

elizabeth warren wealth tax

A wealth tax could have cut Jeff Bezos' fortune in half and made Bill Gates $61 billion less rich, but it might not do anything to make the economy feel more fair to the middle class, Bloomberg columnist Noah Smith argued in a recent column.

The difficulty of recovering from a financial setback or meeting your financial goals after an unplanned expense has a lot to do with that sense of fairness, according to Smith. And what's more, unequal recovery from financial crises may increase hostility towards billionaires, Smith argued. Ultra-wealthy people do tend to lose more money in turbulent markets than millionaires, Business Insider previously reported — but they also recover faster and more fully than their less-wealthy counterparts, a Bloomberg analysis of Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis data found.

In part, that difference in bounce-back can be traced to where the upper and middle class, respectively, invest their money. Ultra-wealthy people tend to hold much of their net worth in the stock market, which has delivered a 17.8% annualized return since March 2009. The values of the homes that often comprise a substantial portion of the middle class' net worth, however, have only partially recovered in the years since the financial crisis.

"This asymmetry might lead some people to wonder if American capitalism is rigged," Smith wrote. "Psychologists often find that people are willing to tolerate inequality as long as they perceive the system as fair; it's unfairness combined with inequality that inspires rage."

Presidential candidate and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren has been outspoken about her dislike of America's wealthiest people

Arguably the most frequently discussed part of Sen. Elizabeth Warren's presidential candidacy platform is her wealth tax proposal.wealth tax, like the one proposed by presidential candidate Warren, would make ultra-wealthy Americans pay the federal government a small percentage of their net worth each year.

She's not the only presidential candidate behind the idea: In September, Bernie Sanders unveiled an even more aggressive wealth tax plan. And that concept isn't supported only by those with an ax to grind with the ultra-wealthy. Billionaires and multimillionaires like Mark Cuban, Marc Benioff, Ray Dalio, and Abigail Disney have also publicly asked the government to raise their taxes.

Warren also sells "billionaire tears" mugs and hosts a wealth tax calculator with thinly veiled swipes at Bill Gates and Leon Cooperman on her campaign website. And her tough rhetoric has instilled fear in many billionaires, former Goldman Sachs partner and hedge fund manager Michael Novogratz told Bloomberg.

"Ninety-seven percent of the people I know in my world are really, really fearful of her," Novogratz said. "They don't like her, they're worried about her, they think she's anti-rich ... It's a little carried away."

While the idea of using a wealth tax to solve America's inequality problem has gained traction in recent years, proposals have been hampered by questions over the effectiveness and the constitutionality of such a tax.

There's no denying that these calls for a tax on the ultra-wealthy come as the divide between America's rich and poor continues to expand. In 2018, income inequality in the US reached its highest level in more than half a century. The ultra-wealthy actually paid a smaller portion of their income in taxes than average Americans in 2018, an analysis of tax data by the University of California at Berkeley's Emmanuel Saez and Gabriel Zucman found.

Proponents of a wealth tax say the measure could reduce inequality by funding education reform, health care, and infrastructure reforms, but experts told Business Insider in September that enforcement issues and constitutional challenges make the chances of implementing such a tax before 2025 essentially zero. And, as Smith argued, the attention may be better applied elsewhere.

"Instead, policy makers who want to avoid destructive class conflicts should focus on reducing the risks faced by the middle class," Smith wrote. "If a middle-class lifestyle is less likely to end in tears, the clamor for billionaire tears might subside."

Scaling mindfulness: How the Headspace cofounders used the NBA, Delta Airlines, and The Guardian newspaper to bring meditation to 60 million users

Richard Pierson and Andy Puddicombe

  • Richard Pierson and Andy Puddicombe are the founders of Headspace, an app that provides users with guided meditation practices.
  • In 2009, Pierson and Puddicombe ran events in London and New York where they would talk about the benefits of meditation and lead group meditation sessions. The paid events were often sold out, which lead them to come up with an app and expand their business.
  • The duo shared how they grew to more than 60 million downloads and over 1 million subscribers today.
  • The cofounders have partnered with Delta, JetBlue, Nike, and the NBA to promote meditation and their product, and designed printed booklets on meditation and packaged them with one million issues of The Guardian.
  • Puddicombe said that what's been instrumental to Headspace's success is the varied skill sets the two cofounders bring to the business. "Rich has that business background, while I bring a creative aspect to Headspace, and we each complement each other," he said.

In 2009, before the idea to create an app dedicated to providing guided meditation was even a glimmer in their eyes, Richard Pierson and Andy Puddicombe ran events in London and New York where they would talk about the benefits of meditation and lead group meditation sessions. Pierson came to meditation later in his life, while Puddicombe had long enjoyed its benefits.

The paid events were often sold out, convincing the duo that they were on to something big.

"We saw how people got inspired at these shows, and so we sold some meditation content on USB sticks that every participant could take home," Puddicombe recalled, "but we had to create a stronger business model beyond the events."

The globally popular, subscription-based app Headspace now has attracted more than 60 million downloads across 190 countries. Headspace has also widened its reach by partnering with Nike, the NBA, the American Medical Association, and airlines such as Delta, Virgin Atlantic, and JetBlue.

The company also grew rapidly in the past nine years, going from three people working out of a closet — "a literal closet," Puddicombe said — to nearly 250 employees across offices in LA, San Francisco, New York, and London.

How did Puddicombe and Pierson scale Headspace so successfully in a competitive space filled with dozens of meditation apps? They gave Business Insider the inside scoop to teach other entrepreneurs what steps to take to build a far-reaching global company.

Paths to meditation: one corporate, the other Himalayan

You wouldn't recognize Andy Puddicombe 20 years ago.  The London resident has been mired in grief to several tragedies that struck his life: A drunk driver ran into a group of his friends, killing two of them, and then a few months later his stepsister died in a cycling accident. Not long after, an ex-girlfriend died during surgery.

Puddicombe, deep in a sports science degree at the time, turned to meditation to help him manage all the pain he was feeling. It was not a new practice; he had long practiced meditation as a youth, but this time was different. He decided he needed a more radical 180-degree turn in his life: He decided to travel to the Himalayas to train as a Buddhist monk.

He spent his 20s at Burmese and Tibetan schools, learning the ins and outs of being a monk. "I saw this enormous need for people who needed to cope with stress and I realized meditation could help them," Puddicombe said in an interview with Business Insider.

After leaving the monastery, he met advertising executive Richard Pierson, who was also going through a quarter-life crisis. He was working in advertising as the head of business development at UK-based Brown Brothers Harriman. "But I was feeling increasingly stressed out and dealing with crippling anxiety," Pierson said in an interview. "I knew I needed to make some major changes in my life." So he left the advertising business to start studying acupuncture, and in the same building Puddicombe also ran meditation clinics.

"We became close friends and decided we wanted to make meditation more accessible to people because we knew that there was something special there that should be shared with the world," Pierson said.

Branching out into the tech space

They designed the app soon after with the last £50,000 they had left after culling funds from friends and family, which evolved from the events company the duo was running, also called Headspace. It was a last-ditch effort borne out of desperation, Puddicombe said.

"We soon realized that we needed to make this practice even more scalable and accessible to people everywhere and anywhere [than just running events]," he explained.

Together, they founded Headspace in 2010, laying the groundwork for one of the world's most popular meditation apps. Guided and non-guided meditations are voiced by Puddicombe, whose soothing voice could have you de-stressed or calmly sleeping within minutes. The 10-minute meditations guide you to slow your breathing and pay attention to relaxing every part of your body, from your toes to the crown of your head. Meditative techniques focused not just on relaxing at home and getting ready to sleep, but also while walking, riding an airplane, stressing out over an emergency, or even eating mindfully.

The first iteration of the Headspace app had to be simple to use and accessible, Pierson recalled.

"Meditation often has a lot of outdated clichés attached to it. So one of the most important things we considered while we were designing the app was that Headspace should feel like it's for everyone, and it should feel mainstream," Pierson said.

What helped make the app attractive were the animations and characters they designed, which Pierson and his team believed would make the app even more approachable.

The benefits of meditation have been chronicled by peer-reviewed studies long before Headspace surged across the world: A 2012 study by the American Heart Association found that meditation helped patients lower their blood pressure, stress, and anger compared with those who attended a health education class. In 2014, Carnegie Mellon University researchers found that mindfulness meditation practice, at a rate of 25 minutes for three consecutive days, alleviates psychological stress.

More recently, a 2019 study published in JMIR Mental Health by researchers Kathleen Marie Walsh, Bechara J Saab, and Norman AS Farb looked at the effects of smartphone-app-guided meditation, and reported that improved mood, lowered stress, and higher attention levels all were found in patients who engaged in meditation-related apps for just 10 minutes a day.

Meditation branched out from an Asian movement favored by New Age fans to a more accepted practice for adults who may have never taken the time to silence their bustling thoughts. A CDC report found that the use of meditation increased more than threefold from 4.1% in 2012 to 14.2% in 2017. Everyone from C-suite execs to teachers to athletes were looking to meditation as a useful method for finding calm amid the always-on digital world bombarding us. This wasn't going to be a momentary blip on the wellness-trends radar.

Making marketing moves

Launching an app is one thing; getting people to download it is another. After the live group meditation sessions, they needed wider exposure beyond those event attendees.

Along came the turning-point idea: collaborating with the UK newspaper The Guardian. Puddicombe and Pierson designed printed booklets on meditation, with details on how to download the app, which were packaged with one million issues of the paper on January 1, 2012, and again in 2013.

"That was huge for us," said Pierson, who now serves as the company's CEO.

Pierson said that another key partnership that helped showcase the app to more people was with an airline. "In our early days, working with Virgin Atlantic was instrumental in validating the content we were producing and distributing. That's also when we saw that there was a large appetite for Headspace content," he said.

Puddicombe added that the Virgin Atlantic partnership "gave us credibility on a mass scale, and in a way gave permission to those customers to find something new."

Collaboration boosted Headspace's visibility

Today, you can fly on a Delta or JetBlue flight and choose one of the many meditations available on the in-flight Headspace app. The airlines partnerships are one of the many deals the Headspace founders struck with well-known brands in order to attract customers who may have never thought about meditating.

Working with NBA players has given Headspace a millennial-focused polish: In the app's category Performance Mindset, NBA players such as Phoenix Suns point guard Ricky Rubio and Los Angeles Lakers power forward Kyle Kuzma share their stories on how meditation played a role in their athletic careers.

This co-branded category is the latest segment of a multi-year NBA-Headspace partnership that first launched in February 2018. Then, Headspace was introduced to the NBA by providing all league and team employees across the NBA, WNBA, NBA G League, and NBA 2K League with access to Headspace's app.

Nike was another brand Puddicombe and Pierson sought to attract, due to Nike's reputation as a brand for athletes. "This was an audience that wants to look after the body and mind," Puddicombe said, "and we wanted to be part of that community."

In addition, the founders launched Headspace for Educators, the company's flagship social impact program, which saw them partner with more than 100 K-12 school boards in the US to provide Headspace access to educators at no cost.

Growing pains

The hardest aspect in scaling Headspace has been growing at such a quick rate for consecutive years, Pierson said. "How you maintain the culture that helped you build the company and, at the same time, evolve it based on what the company needs in the future is a delicate process, one we are continually iterating on and improving," he explained.

Before the company raised $75 million in funding, Puddicombe remembered those very lean years when they were just hoping to create enough content for the app. Entrepreneurs benefit from having friends who can volunteer their time and resources, Puddicombe said. "Because we bootstrapped for five years, the first version of Headspace had us recording stuff in a friend's recording studio. These people were eager to be part of the vision we had for Headspace," he said.

Stay calm and carry on competing against rival apps

Puddicombe said that what's been instrumental to Headspace's success is the varied skill sets the two cofounders bring to the business. "Rich has that business background, while I bring a creative aspect to Headspace, and we each complement each other," he said.

He also noted that being friends with his cofounder was also a key factor in how they operated later in the company's timeline. "We go on holiday together, our wives are good friends, and we're both united in our passion for Headspace," he said.

Today, Headspace isn't the only meditation app available. Companies such as Calm, Buddhify, Oak, and Happify Health are also nudging their way into the meditation-wellness space, an industry valued at $130 million. But Puddicombe said Headspace has a key advantage over them all.

"We're backed by scientific studies," he said, noting how Headspace started working with academics on research around meditation "from the very beginning."

"More than 70 clinical trials and 23 peer-reviewed papers demonstrate how Headspace can deliver outcomes related to alleviating stress and promoting mindfulness," he said.

He went on to explain, "Our approach to science has really been to focus on novice meditators, on people who are likely to be Headspace members and to look at the benefits after eight to 12 weeks of practice for anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes a day. This allows us to demystify a practice that can sometimes feel abstract for people who haven't tried it before and to demonstrate tangible health benefits in an accessible way."

For example, a study out of Northeastern University found that three weeks of using Headspace increased feelings of compassion by 23% among the study participants.

Authenticity and credibility go a long way to elevate your company above the competition, Puddicombe said. "People will be wondering if Headspace really works and now we have science offering that reliability to our customers," he added.

What makes these deals great:

  1. Apple AirPods, $129 (originally $159) [You save $30] *low stock* AirPods don't go on sale often, so when they do, you should take advantage of the opportunity. On Amazon, the new AirPods Pro are $15 off (now $235), but if you're not looking to spend more than $200, the original AirPods are still a powerful and convenient alternative. In case they sell out on Walmart, you can also find them on Amazon
  2. Roku Ultra with JBL Headphones, $48 (originally $99) [You save $51]  Enjoy the best price on Roku's streaming media player, which offers HD, 4K, or HDR picture quality, and comes with headphones that allow you to watch your favorite shows and movies on the big screen without disturbing anyone else. Read more about the differences between Roku devices if you're not sure which to buy.
  3. Vizio 65-inch Class V-Series 4K Smart TV, $398 (originally $528) [You save $130] The affordable TV features free and unlimited TV with WatchFree, built-in Chromecast, compatibility with Google Assistant and Siri, and more.
  4. LG 2.1 Soundbar, $99 (originally $199) [You save $100] This soundbar instantly enhances your entertainment viewing experience, for just under $100. With a compatible LG HDTV, it links up easily and wirelessly via Bluetooth.
  5. Apple iPad (6th Gen) 128GB Wi-Fi, $349 (originally $430) [You save $81] Best Buy and Target are also selling this 2018 model, sixth-generation iPad, but you'll get the best Black Friday price at Walmart. It may not be the newest iPad, but it's still the best one you can buy because it has nearly all the same features as the more expensive iPad Air — just an older processor. The sixth-gen iPad features a sharp screen, high-end metal design, Apple Pencil support, a Touch ID fingerprint sensor, and a generous 128 GB storage.
  6. Google Smart Light Starter Kit, $25 (originally $55) [You save $30] The GE bulb screws on like a regular light bulb but is much cooler than your average light bulb. You can dim the lights, turn them on and off, and create routines so you never have to get up to hit the light switch again. The same deal is at Best Buy and Target, but Walmart offers a few add-on options you might want to consider.
  7. KitchenAid Classic Plus Series 4.5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer, $199 (originally $279) [You save $80] If you're a beginner baker on a budget, we recommend this mixer because it's versatile, dependable, and quiet. Compared with other stand-mixer models (many of which are also on sale), it has the least powerful motor.
  8. Keurig K-Compact Single-Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee Maker, $40 (originally $67) [You save $27] A reliable, efficient, and compact coffee maker under $50 is hard to come by. If there's any coffee maker brand you can trust, it's Keurig.
  9. iRobot Roomba 960 Vacuum, $399 (originally $700) [You save $301] The iRobot 960 is one of the brand's best-sellers for good reason: It works on all types of surfaces, cleans thoroughly and efficiently, and can be tracked through the corresponding app. Compared with other robot vacuums, it's on the higher end of the price spectrum, but it's certainly not the priciest. We named it the best high-end robot vacuum you can buy in our buying guide. You can save $251 on it during Black Friday.
  10. Xbox One S 1TB All-Digital Edition 3-Game Bundle, $149 (originally $250) [You save $101] This is the lowest price you'll see anywhere, and the deal is all the better because the bundle includes three must-own games: "Minecraft," "Fortnite," and "Sea of Thieves."
  11. Slumber1 by Zinus 8-inch Mattress (Queen), $149 (originally $209) [You save $60] You'll be hard-pressed to find a comfortable under-$200 Queen mattress anywhere else. Zinus specializes in affordable bedroom essentials, so we're not surprised one of the best home deals this Black Friday comes from the brand. The mattress ships in a box so you don't have to worry about inconvenient shipping or assembly.

echo 3rd gen

Black Friday is finally here, and Amazon is discounting its devices. You'll find Kindles, Fire TV Sticks, and plenty of Echo speakers on sale.

Besides controlling your smart home, an Echo speaker lets you play music, make voice calls (and video calls on Echo Show devices with displays), and more — all by using the Alexa voice assistant.

If a smart speaker is what you want, check out these Black Friday Echo deals below. The biggest savings are on the Echo, Echo Show 5, Echo Show, Echo Dot, and Echo Dot Kids Edition.

Best Echo Black Friday deals in 2019:

Updated on 10/29/2019: Updated prices and links. Added Echo Flex, Echo Dot with Clock, Echo Dot Kids Edition, Echo Input, and Echo Sub.

Echo Dot

Echo Dot, $22 (originally $50) [You save $28]

Echo Dot with Clock, $34.99 (originally $60) [You save $25]

The most affordable Echo smart speaker gets even cheaper. At this price, you can stock up on a couple or more and spread them throughout the house. The Echo Dot is our pick for the best affordable smart speaker.

Amazon is also discounting the new Echo Dot with Clock. It's just like a regular Echo Dot, except it displays the time — no need to summon Alexa for that info. The LED can also show temperature and a countdown clock.

Echo

Echo (3rd gen), $60 (originally $100) [You save $40]

The third-generation of the original Echo speaker has improved sound quality, thanks to Dolby technology. It also comes in more colors and has a softer design that makes it look good in any home. Check out our review.

Echo Show 5

Echo Show 5, $50 (originally $90) [You save $40]

Part alarm clock, part smart speaker, the Echo Show 5 is the perfect bedside companion. You can do all the same things with the Show 5 that you can do with an Echo speaker, but it's also a smart display, so you can make video calls using the 5.5-inch screen, check on the baby monitor, or watch a show on Prime Video. It's our pick for the best budget smart display with Alexa.

Echo Dot Kids Edition

Echo Dot Kids Edition, $39.99 (originally $69.99) [You save $30]

The Echo Dot Kids Edition is based on the regular Echo Dot in terms of specs, but it has extra features designed for children to operate and a colorful design. There are parental and privacy controls, including the ability to set time limits and shut the mic off. The content is also streamlined for kids: Songs with explicit content are filtered, and Alexa picks age-appropriate music and stories when asked. It comes with a year of free access to FreeTime Unlimited, Amazon's library of kids' content.

Echo Show (2nd gen)

Echo Show (2nd gen), $150 (originally $230) [You save $80]

The largest version of the Echo Show has a 10.1-inch display in a redesigned frame that looks sleeker. It's ideal for bigger rooms like the kitchen or living room. You can watch shows, listen to music, make video calls, see info like the weather report, and control your smart home devices. It's our overall pick for the best Alexa smart display.

Echo Sub (2nd gen), $109.99 (originally $129.99) [You save $20]

Want more bass out of your third-gen Echo speaker? Get two of them and add the new Echo Sub to create a 2.1 stereo setup. Now, you can listen to Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music, Amazon Prime Music, or whatever choice of music service you prefer, with better higher-quality sound. The Echo Sub also works with the third-generation Echo Dot and second-generation Echo.

Echo Flex

Echo Flex, $19.99 (originally $24.99) [You save $5]

Some people like to show off their Echo devices, but if you would rather have something more inconspicuous, this plug-in Echo speaker is for you. The new Echo Flex is a speaker that plugs directly into a wall outlet but has all the speaker functions that a regular Echo would. You can also get it with a motion sensor or night light, which plugs into the USB port below.

Echo Input

Echo Input, $14.99 (regularly $34.99) [You save $20]

The Echo Input is an easy way to turn any speaker into a smart speaker. Simply connect to a Bluetooth speaker wirelessly or by using the 3.5mm audio cable and connecting it to the headphone jack or auxiliary input. Then, just call up Alexa as you would with any Echo device.

Amazon Smart Plug

Amazon Smart Plug, $5 with purchase of select Echo devices (regularly $25) [You save $20]

With Echo devices, you can use Alexa to control a smart home. But if your smart home device doesn't isn't Alexa-enabled, plug it into a smart plug. With an Amazon Smart Plug, you can turn any standard outlet into a smart one. Just plug in a lamp, for example, and you can tell Alexa to turn it on and off. At $5, you can smarten up any outlet quickly and easily.

* It's just $5 when purchased as a bundle with Echo Dot, Echo Dot with Clock, Echo, Echo Show 5, or Echo Studio. To get the deal, go to the product page for any of these devices and choose the "with $5 Smart Plug" Configuration.

Airlines are joining in on Black Friday with major flight sales — here's how you can save

Delta air lines

Black Friday is perhaps the single most important day of the year for US retailers, even as Black Friday.

Last year, US retailers set a record with $6.22 billion in Black Friday business in online sales alone.

With the online component, Black Friday continues to include more than just electronics and toys. Even airlines have been jumping on board with sales and specials of their own.

So far, deals are rather sparse, but we expect more to be announced as Black Friday and Cyber Monday get closer.

We'll be updating this list as the world's airlines announce their Black Friday sales, so be sure to check back and refresh.

In the meantime, scroll down to find the best airline Black Friday and Cyber Monday flight deals of 2019.

SEE ALSO: I flew Delta's reviled 767 business class seat from Europe to New York. Here's what it was actually like.

Delta

Delta is offering a ton of Black Friday deals starting on Tuesday, November 26 (the airline is calling it "Takeoff Tuesday").

The airline is offering cut-rate sales on a ton of individual routes throughout its network, on both domestic US and international flights.

To get the best deals, book by Sunday, December 1. The travel periods depend on the route, but are generally in December, January, or February — a few include days in March and April, too.

Visit Delta's Black Friday sale page to see the routes available. Some of the best deals include:

  • New York–Amsterdam for $309 round-trip.
  • Detroit–San Jose, Costa Rica for $507 round-trip.
  • Miami–New York for $187 round-trip.
  • Los Angeles–Milan, Italy for $639 round-trip.

Delta's also offering a Black Friday deal on vacation packages. You can get up to $350 off or 35,000 bonus miles when you book a vacation package. That's in addition to the usual savings from booking a flight and hotel together as a package.

Click here to book Delta's Black Friday deals.

American Airlines

American Airlines is offering Black Friday specials on vacation packages booked through the airline.

You can already get discounts by booking your flight and hotel together as a vacation package, but the Black Friday sale offers an extra discount on top of that.

Visit American's Vacations website and use promo code "Friday2019" to see sale prices. Packages must be booked by December 11 for travel by July 31, 2020.

Click here to search Black Friday vacation deals through American Airlines.

United Airlines

United is also offering Black Friday specials on vacation packages. Save up to $600 on flight + hotel packages, including up to 74% off hotels, and get 10,000 bonus United miles on select packages.

Make sure to book by December 5 to take advantage of the sale prices.

Click here to look at United's Black Friday and Cyber Monday vacation packages.

Spirit Airlines

Spirit Airlines is offering up to 75% off round-trip flights booked on Black Friday, including up to 75% off of the flight portion of vacation packages.

The catch is that you'll have to fly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to take advantage of the deal, so that means you'll likely end up staying for a full week — no long weekend deals to be found here.

Book by December 1 at 11:59 p.m. ET for travel December 10–11, or January 14–February 11, 2020.

Use promo code "75PCT" to get the discount.

Click here to book Spirit Airlines' Black Friday deal.

Southwest

Southwest is offering a ton of low fares for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The fares currently listed must be purchased by the end of Thanksgiving Day — November 28 at 11:59 p.m. PT — but it's likely Southwest will add additional deals for Black Friday itself.

Visit the sale page and check the interactive search tool to browse options. Keep in mind that listed prices are all one-way.

Click here to browse Southwest Black Friday fares.

Alaska Airlines

Alaska is offering steep discounts on a handful of routes across its network, including flights for as low as $29 one way.

The one day sale is good for travel from January 7–March 11, 2020.

In addition to the Black Friday sale, we're expecting a separate deal for Cyber Monday.

In the meantime, take a look at the Black Friday page to see what routes are offering the discounts.

Click here to search Black Friday deals on Alaska Airlines.

Emirates

Emirates is offering steep discounts on flights from its 12 US gateways to a variety of destinations.

Black Friday fares start at $449 round-trip in economy and $2,959 in business class.

To get the best prices, book by Saturday, November 30 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Travel dates vary depending on cabin and routing. Most economy fares are valid for travel between December 4– November 15, 2020, while most business class fares are good for travel between January 12–December 9, 2020.

Click here to shop Emirates Black Friday deals.

Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways is offering $150 off round-trip economy flights and $300 off business class flights — including Qatar's award-winning Q Suite seats— to a handful of destinations from the US.

Tickets must be purchased by December 1, and the discounts are valid for travel from January 11 through May 19.

Use promo code "FLYDAY" to get the discount. Visit Qatar's Black Friday page to see a full list of eligible routes.

Click here to book a Black Friday deal on Qatar Airways.

Etihad

Etihad is offering discounts on various routes across its network for Black Friday.

Many of the fares aren't the best we've seen, but there are some good deals grouped in with the rest, like Chicago to Johannesburg for $766, or Los Angeles to Nairobi for $674.

Visit the Black Friday page and browse options from your city.

Click here to search Etihad's Black Friday flight deals.

Norwegian Airlines

Save up to 30% on flights with Norwegian Air, including on short-haul and long-haul flights.

Use promo code "BLACKFRIDAY19" when searching for flights, and check Norwegian's Black Friday page to browse available fares.

Book by December 2 for travel between December 1–March 28, 2020.

Click here to search Norwegian's Black Friday and Cyber Monday flight deals.

Air Italy

Air Italy is offering up to 25% off round-trip flights from the US and Canada to destinations in Italy.

Book by December 2 for travel from December 5–October 24, 2020.

Click here to search Air Italy's Black Friday deals.

Aer Lingus

Aer Lingus, the Irish flag carrier, is offering up to $100 off round-trip flights  in economy from the US and Canada to Ireland and Europe, and $200 off business class for the same flights.

The airline says that the prices will be reflected in search results. Of course, because airline pricing models are incredibly complex and opaque, it's hard to tell how the discounts are being applied.

However, a few sample searches found some stellar prices, including the low $300s from New York to destinations in Ireland and the UK.

Book by December 3 for travel between January 1 and March 8, 2020.

Click here to book a Black Friday deal on Aer Lingus.

Iberia

Spanish airline Iberia is offering a wide range of discounted flights for Black Friday.

Book by December 2 to get the best prices on travel between now and March 27, 2020.

There are some deals to cities in Spain — like New York to Madrid for $272 round-trip — as well as connecting through Spain to other destinations — like New York to Tel Aviv, Israel for $569.

Click here to book Black Friday fares with Iberia.

Icelandair

Icelandic budget airline Wow Air may have gone bankrupt, but there are still plenty of opportunities to fly to Iceland for cheap.

Icelandair's Black Friday sale has discounts on round-trip flights to Reykjavik from all over the US. Fly from New York for about $360, from Seattle for $479, or from a handful of other cities around the country.

You can also connect through Reykjavik and fly to other destinations in Europe, depending on your origin city.

Visit the Black Friday sale page to see options from your home airport. Tickets must be booked by December 3.

Click here to browse Icelandair's Black Friday deals.

Ryanair

The European budget airline is offering different deals every day of "Cyber Week." Check back on its website every day to see the latest.

Click here to browse Ryanair's Cyber Week flight deals.

Aeromexico

Aeromexico is offering a handful of discounted flights for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Some deals are better than others — for instance, a $325 round-trip flight from New York to Mexico City is a solid deal, while an advertised $1,110 flight from Houston to Lima is far from competitive.

The best thing to do is check Aeromexico's promotion page and explore the various routes and prices to see if something works for you, and then price-compare on Google Flights.

Occasionally, you can score an incredible deal on business class — sometimes it's around the same price as coach — so make sure to search for that too. That's how I got to fly to Santiago, Chile in business class last summer, which was a fantastic experience

Click here to explore Aeromexico Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.

Hawaiian Airlines

Hawaiian Airlines is also advertising a Black Friday sale, although it hasn't offered specifics on pricing or dates.

If you're interested in traveling to Hawaii, the best thing to do would be visit the Black Friday sale page and start searching for flights to see if you can find a deal.

Click here to search Hawaiian Airlines' Black Friday deals.

Air France

Instead of discounts, Air France is offering triple miles for its Flying Blue frequent flyer members on round-trip flights between the US and Paris.

Book from now until December 2, and travel between December 7 and March 31, 2020 to take advantage of the deal.

Click here to book Air France flights as part of the triple miles promotion.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines

KLM — which is co-owned with Air France by the larger Air France-KLM group — is offering a similar promotion for Flying Blue frequent flyer members.

Earn triple Flying Blue miles on round-trip flights from the US and Amsterdam when you book by December 2, and travel between December 7 and March 31, 2020.

Click here to book KLM flights as part of the triple miles promotion.

La Compagnie

La Compagnie, a boutique all-business class French airline, is offering a pre-Black Friday sale.

Fly round-trip between Paris and New York in business class for just $1,000 if you book by November 26 — although the deal was supposed to end, the promo page is still live, so it's definitely worth checking to see if you can still snag a great price. The fares are valid on travel between now and April 30, subject to availability.

La Compagnie often offers competitive business class fares, but it's rare to see them go below $1,500.

Click here to book La Compagnie flights for $1,000 round-trip.

Check back here for more deals!

We expect a ton of airlines to announce their Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals over the next few days as Thanksgiving draws closer.

Singapore Airlines and Turkish Airlines have both teased their Black Friday sales, and more airlines will in the next few days.
