How to unblock a blocked number or contact on your iPhone

  • You can easily unblock a blocked number on your iPhone if you no longer want to prevent that number from sending you calls, texts, or FaceTime requests.
  • The process of blocking a number takes only a few seconds, and the unblocking process is equally simple and quick.
  • Here's how to unblock a blocked number or contact on your iPhone

There are many good reasons to block a phone number or contact on your iPhone.

Maybe you're screening every call you get and blocking the spam calls as they come in. Maybe you don't want texts from a certain friend with a questionable sense of humor popping up in your screen while you're at work. Or maybe you just went through a break up scorching enough that the idea your former flame could get in touch with you is too much to handle.

The good news is that blocking a contact takes only a few seconds. The better news is that blocking a number isn't permanent, so if you change your mind, you can undo the blocking. In fact, unblocking a number is even easier than blocking it in the first place.

Before we get to that, though, let's make sure we're on the same page as to what blocking callers really does.

What happens when you block a number on iPhone

A blocked iPhone contact can't call you. And they can't FaceTime you or text you, either. But it doesn't mean the shunned caller has no way to get in touch, because they can still leave a voicemail.

In fact, when someone a blocked number calls you, your phone routes it immediately to voicemail, but your iPhone will not send you an alert that you have a new message.

Rather the blocked caller's voicemail will lurk there, unheard (and unwanted) until you go into your voicemail, see it there, and summarily delete it. (Or go ahead and listen, it's your call.)

How to unblock a number or contact on iPhone

First, you have to consider whether you are unblocking a number that is in your contacts, or simply in your recent call list. Here's how to do both.

Unblock a number in your contacts

1. Open the green-and-white Phone app on your screen and navigate to the "Contacts" tab.

2. Find the particular contact you're looking for and open it.

3. Scroll to the bottom of the back to find the words "Unblock this Caller" in blue, and tap those words.

Unblock a number in your recent calls list

If you blocked a recent caller who's not in your contacts and now regret that decision (maybe you do want that dental insurance plan all of a sudden), here's what to do.

1. Find the number under the "Recents" tab of your Phone app.

2. Tap the corresponding blue "i" in the blue circle on the far right of that number.

iphone

3. Scroll down to find  "Unblock this Caller" in blue, and tap it.

You're done. Seriously, that's it — those blocked contacts are now unblocked.

Every traveler should get this $12 luggage scale before their next international flight

Insider Picks writes about products and services to help you navigate when shopping online. Insider Inc. receives a commission from our affiliate partners when you buy through our links, but our reporting and recommendations are always independent and objective.

Luggage Scale

  • International overweight bag fees range from $50 to $200 depending on airline carriers and how much your bag is over the predetermined limit.
  • This $12 digital luggage scale can save you hours of frustration and hundreds of dollars even if you don't consider yourself an overpacker.
  • It can weigh bags and suitcases up to 100 pounds. It also weighs less than five ounces itself, so it won't add much to your overall bag weight.

There's no bigger rush than finding an international flight deal. There's also no bigger buzzkill than finding out that there are unreasonably low bag weights.

So, before I went on a two-week, three-city vacation to Australia, I bought this $12 digital luggage scale from Etekcity. It saved me from having to pay $80 in overweight baggage fees on that trip alone.

After booking my tickets to Australia, when I read that passengers could only bring one carry-on and one personal item that totaled to 15 pounds and check-in bags couldn't be more than 40 pounds, I knew I was going to have a hard time packing. Even though I was traveling for two weeks, you can bet that I was packing three weeks' worth of clothes, accessories, shoes, and makeup. Not to mention I had to save space for all the souvenirs I'd bring home.

The digital scale proved to be a lifesaver. I was able to weigh my bags throughout my packing process so I packed more thoughtfully (I guess I didn't need five pairs of jeans after all) and avoided paying overweight baggage fees on all the legs of my trip.

Etekcity Luggage Scale

The scale is super small and weighs under five ounces so it'll barely register in your suitcase, and using it is fool-proof.

Once you've packed your bag or suitcase, loop the scale around any handle. Then lift the scale up for a few seconds, and the digital display will show how much your bag weighs. From there, you can repack as needed in the comfort of your own home — not at the airport in front of 12 annoyed passengers and future seatmates. Even if you aren't an overpacker like me, you'll have total peace of mind just in case check-in agents try to scam you and say your bag is over the weight limit.

Since I bought this scale, I've used it on trips to Iceland, Hong Kong, Turks and Caicos, Greece, and more, and have never had an issue with overweight baggage. In fact, it's helped me discover that I had more room in my suitcase for shoes.

Buy the Etekcity Digital Luggage Scale from Amazon for $12

From basketball courts to floating helipads, here are the luxury yachts owned by some of the wealthiest people in tech

  • Billionaires can afford toys that most people can only dream of: private planes, penthouse apartments, and even entire islands.
  • Some billionaires have taken to purchasing multi-million-dollar yachts, complete with movie theaters and dance floors, that they can use to host family and their other wealthy friends.
  • Here are some of the tech elites who own private yachts.

Some billionaires, like Elon Musk and Bill Gates, buy private planes to take control of the open skies — others purchase yachts to access the open seas.

There aren't too many tech billionaires with yachts. Perhaps it's because while private planes can be used for work-related trips and quick time-saving flights, yachts are generally relegated to play. The yachts of tech billionaires, like Google's Sergey Brin and Larry Page, reflect that view — their boats are decked out with amenities like gyms, spas, pools, nightclubs, and movie theaters.

If you want to find out what life is like aboard these multi-million-dollar yachts, some of them are available to rent out for a few nights or weeks at a time. For instance, chartering the yacht owned by Alphabet President Sergey Brin has cost past customers $773,000 a week.

Here are the yachts owned by tech billionaires:

Oracle cofounder Larry Ellison owns a 288-foot yacht named Musashi that he acquired in 2013.

Ellison previously owned a bigger, 454-foot yacht called Rising Sun, which was designed specifically for the CEO in 2005. That yacht reportedly has 82 rooms, a movie theater, a wine cellar, and a basketball court. However, Ellison sold off the Rising Sun to music mogul David Geffen for a reported $300 million.

Ellison's Musashi is a sister ship to the yacht of another billionaire, Sears CEO Eddie Lampert. However, the yacht, named Fountainhead, is often mistaken for belonging to billionaire investor Mark Cuban. "The guy who owns the boat tells everyone that it's mine," Cuban told Page Six in 2016. "It’s so crazy ... I don’t even own a boat."

5 time-saving services that take care of everyday tasks so you can get some hours back in your day

instacart

  • Time is one of our most valuable resources — and some tasks just take up too much of it.
  • Luckily, if you're looking to save some time, there are plenty of services that you can count on to help you out with everyday tasks, from picking up groceries to waiting in a long line — for a fee.
  • Outsourcing your tasks may seem silly, but it's a worthwhile splurge. If you're considering the investment, platforms like TaskRabbit, Thumbtack, Handy, Amazon Home Services, and Instacart can help you out.

Don't waste my time. Time is of the essence. Time is ticking.

The narrative around time cautions us to take advantage of it while we have it. And it makes sense; time is one of our most valuable resources and we can't get it back once it's gone. Sometimes it feels like there's not enough time in a day to complete every task on your agenda, and there just might never be. If you ever find yourself in this debacle, you might want to look into outsourcing some of your simple, everyday tasks.

These days you can find services to help you with all sorts of tasks — everything from picking up your groceries to building furniture for you. It might seem silly at first — why would I pay someone to pick up my groceries if I am perfectly able to do it myself? The answer is, to save time. Business Insider spoke with two financial experts who both agreed that spending on time-saving services is worth the splurge. Being able to outsource little tasks is probably the closest thing you can get to actually getting some hours in your day back, and therefore, is a worthwhile investment.

From meal delivery services to on-demand handymen, here are five great services that can help you complete your everyday tasks in less time:

Instacart

Get groceries delivered by Instacart here

What it is: A same-day grocery delivery service.

How much it costs: $3.99 - $14.99 per delivery (price varies by store and delivery time)

How it works: Make an account on Instacart (don't worry, it's free) and browse the grocery stores in your area. They have a pretty good selection of stores, including more local specialty stores, as well as wholesale stores like Costco. In New York, Whole Foods is one of the more popular options.

Pick a store, and then shop for your groceries as you would shop for anything else online — simply add whatever groceries you want to your cart. Instacart also shows you all the promotions and deals going on at your local grocery store, so while the delivery fee for some stores might seem expensive, it ultimately could save you money with easy-to-find deals you might not have noticed walking down the store aisles.

When you're done shopping, check out and choose a delivery window — this is when your food will be delivered right to your door. Delivery prices vary by store, but you can often snag free delivery deals. If you have other tasks to complete at home, this is a great way to save some time and get all the food you need.

Handy

Make a Handy appointment today, here

What it is: An on-demand handyman and cleaning service.

How much it costs: Price varies based on task, zip code, and service date.

How it works: Pick the service you'd like, then the date and time when you'd like it done. Handy offers a wide range of services including home cleaning, home painting, furniture assembly, and housekeeping, among others. Handy recommends the amount of time you'll need to get different tasks done (for example, a cleaner will likely need more time to fully clean a large home than a small apartment). After filling out all of the information, Handy will send you a price quote. You can then book instantly — Handy appointments can be scheduled as early as one day in advance.

From there, you can easily use the Handy app to pay, reschedule your appointment, and communicate with your Handy professional. All Handy professionals are vetted, not only to ensure they have experience in their given field, but also to make sure they have a clean background. Additionally, you can see reviews of your Handy worker on the app, including how many jobs they've completed and their rating out of five stars. If you like shopping at Wayfair, you may be familiar with Handy — the two brands have a partnership to make furniture shopping and assembly easy.

TaskRabbit

Find a TaskRabbit Tasker available near you here

What it is: A service that deals with just about any task you need done.

How much it costs: Price varies based on task, zip code, and service date.

How it works: TaskRabbit was one of the first time-saving services I'd ever encountered, and it's likely because of the breadth of the services they offer. You'll find the classic handyman and home cleaning services available, but TaskRabbit can also help you with a lot of niche tasks, too. Through TaskRabbit, you can pay someone to organize your closet, do research for you, help you move, build your IKEA furniture,  bartend at your party, or even wait in a line for you. Once you choose the task you're interested in, you'll see a list of all of the qualified professionals aka "Taskers" in your area and how much they charge. TaskRabbit uses independent contractors who all set their own hourly rates — you can filter Taskers by their rates, number of positive reviews, and tasks completed to find the right person for the job.

Once you find the right Tasker for the job, schedule your appointment either online or on the app. You can usually find available appointments for the day of, or you can book further out — it really depends on the schedule of your Tasker. The day-of booking is particularly convenient in the case that you think you can do something yourself, but then realize you don't have the right tools or enough time.

15 reusable cleaning products that are more sustainable than their traditional counterparts

Insider Picks writes about products and services to help you navigate when shopping online. Insider Inc. receives a commission from our affiliate partners when you buy through our links, but our reporting and recommendations are always independent and objective.

Reusable cleaning products

  • You don't have to sacrifice having a clean, tidy home when you go green — you just need to know what kinds of products are getter for the environment.
  • Aside from using eco-friendly cleaning chemicals, rinvesting in reusable products like this laundry egg and these microfiber cloths is one affordable and sustainable solution to our over-reliance on wasteful products like dryer sheets and paper towels.
  • Below, you'll find 15 of the best reusable cleaning products to add to your home essentials list.

Caring about the environment and caring about a clean home don't have to be mutually exclusive. Though most of the cleaning products and tools sold on the shelf are disposable, a striking amount of them are actually reusable — which is good for the environment and your wallet.

When the movement toward "green cleaning" began, there were very few products that approached the benchmark of being both high-quality and good for the Earth at the same time. Yes, there was the ol' kitchen mop and the bacteria-infested sink rag, but more often than not, reusable meant repulsive.

Today, it's hard to keep up with the number of items on the market that are working to provide a sustainable way to take care of your home, from eco-friendly chemicals to reusable dryer sheets. There are tons of ways you can do your part to take care of the environment without going out of your way or sacrificing the quality of the products you've used in the past.

Below, you'll find 15 reusable products that work well and are good for the environment (a win-win, if you ask me).

Smart138 Reusable Dish Scrubber

Smart 138 Reusable Dish Scrubber, $7.95 for a pack of 3, Available at Amazon

This towel, made from natural materials, can be used to scrub anything from stubborn food caked onto dishes to sticky messes on countertops. Buyers claim that this towel has become their favorite cleaning tool because it's durable, dries fast, and doesn't hold bacteria like most sponges.

Smart Sheep Wool Dryer Balls

Smart Sheep Wool Dryer Balls, $16.95 for a pack of 6, Available at Amazon

These dryer balls might look a little odd, but with nearly 16,000 reviews and an average of 4.5 stars on Amazon, it's clear that their outward appearance isn't interfering with their popularity. The Smart Sheep Dryer Balls are made from 100% premium New Zealand wool and offer the same benefits of disposable dryer sheets (like decreased static), but without the waste. They can be infused with essential oils, and they can aid in quicker drying times by creating air pockets between clothes.

Phaewo Silicone Dishwashing Gloves

Phaewo Silicone Dishwashing Gloves, $13.99, Available at Amazon

Often times, sponges and brushes are difficult to use when trying to get into small crevices of dishes and silverware. With bristles on both sides and anti-slip grips on each finger, you can easily clean your bowls and plates without worrying that they'll slip out of your hands. Silicone is also more ocean-friendly than traditional plastic, and it's BPA-free, too.

Wealthy parents are paying up to $1.5 million for consultants to help get their kids into college — and there are ways to do it that are completely legal

lori loughlin daughters

  • In an ongoing college admissions scandal, 33 parents have been accused of paying millions of dollars to fabricate their children's credentials during the college admissions process.
  • But there are other, legal ways the ultra-wealthy try to increase their children's chances of getting into an elite college.
  • This includes paying up to $1.5 million for college consultants or making donations of more than $10 million to the school their child is applying to, according to The New York Times.

On Tuesday, dozens of people were charged in a college admissions bribery scandal uncovered by the FBI. Among those charged are Hollywood actors, college athletic coaches, business leaders, and CEOs and executives in finance, real estate, and other industries.

Thirty-three parents are accused of paying a collective $25 million to William Singer, owner of the Edge College & Career Network, to boost their children's chances of getting accepted into an elite university.

Individual bribes reportedly cost as much as $6.5 million and fell into two schemes: having their children pose as athletes to become accepted into Division-1 universities or have stand-ins take SAT and ACT exams for their children.

Read more: CEOs, investors, and entrepreneurs are among those named in the college admissions cheating scandal — here are the 22 business leaders who've been charged by the FBI

According to a Department of Justice press release, Singer orchestrated the scandal, bribing coaches and university administrators or arranging for test stand-ins. According to charging documents, actress Lori Loughlin and husband fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli paid $500,000 to a fake nonprofit to have their daughters, Olivia and Isabella, designated as recruits to the University of Southern California's crew team, when neither daughter rowed crew.

How the super-rich can legally buy better chances for their kids

Not all college consultants operate illegally — there's a whole "shadowy" world where the super-rich can legally buy greater chances for their kids to be accepted into elite schools, reported Dana Goldstein and Jack Healy of The New York Times.

Parents can purchase a five-year package of college admissions consulting from Ivy Coach for up to $1.5 million, Goldstein and Healy wrote, adding that they might also pay $300 for a one-hour admissions expert consultation or make multi-millionaire donations to schools.

The latter tactic is common among wealthy parents trying to get their children into top-tier schools, reported Business Insider's Jacob Shamsian.

Consider Charles Kushner, who gave a $2.5 million donation to Harvard in 1998 shortly before his son, Jared — who reportedly did not have a high enough GPA or SAT scores — was admitted. Former Sony executive and current chairman of Snap Michael Lynton donated $1 million to Brown in 2013; his daughter was accepted not long thereafter.

But gifts in that amount may not cut it today.

"In recent years the costs of ensuring special treatment for an application have moved beyond comfortable reach even for the rich," Goldstein and Healy wrote.

Such donations need to be hefty — a mere $10 million is "an entry-level gift that might not even get the attention of the admission office," Steven Mercer, a private college consultant based in Santa Monica, told The Times.

This $300 cooler lights up when you open the lid — it's now my go-to camping essential

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.

Orca Liddup Cooler

  • Orca's Liddup cooler features a built-in LED light panel that illuminates the contents of the cooler as soon as you open the lid.
  • With a sufficient amount of ice or cold packs, a Liddup cooler can keep foods chilled for more than a week.
  • The 35-quart capacity of the Liddup offers enough storage capacity for multi-day camping trips or a seriously productive day of fishing.

Imagine opening the fridge to find no light illuminating your food. You'd stand there, peering into the gloom and wondering where the milk was hiding, if you had any cold cuts left in the drawer, or if that was a jar of mustard, pickles, or sauerkraut lurking at the back of the top shelf. A grim thought, no? Well, why did it take so long for someone to put a light inside a cooler, then? Any camper can tell you that the struggle of poking around inside a cooler by the glow of flashlight or headlamp is every bit as frustrating as searching through darkened fridge would be.

The dark days are finally over thanks to the Liddup Cooler from Orca. The company started with a cooler that was already exceptionally well made, then took the "why didn't I think of that!" step and added LED lighting that automatically turns on when you open the lid. By the light of these, well, lights, you can clearly see the contents of the cooler even on the darkest of nights.

The first result is reduced frustration as you search for a snack or beer, or place a fish you just caught onto a bed of ice. The second result is reduced loss of interior chill as you'll have the cooler open for less time than you would if you were searching via flashlight. The third result will be nearby campers and/or fishermen coming over and saying: "Hey, what's that?"

To which you might reply: "What, this? My Liddup cooler from Orca? Well, it's just a 35-quart-capacity cooler with multi-day ice retention, a rugged, roto-molded body, a thick lid gasket ensuring a proper seal, a drainage spout, large and flexible handles, and attachment points for other gear. Oh, and of course it has this automatic lighting system that switches on bright white LEDs when the lid is lifted and that runs off just four AA batteries, that's all."

And to that I'd say ... good answer, you clearly did your homework! The Orca Liddup cooler is one of those products that comes with just one modification to an existing item but that far surpasses the competition for it. I've used lots of coolers with week-long ice retention, a secure lid and gasket system, and construction rugged enough to survive a fall out a truck bed during highway-speed drives. But I'd never seen a built-in lighting system before, and now, for that one innovation, the Liddup is my go-to cooler for any and all outings that just might see me digging about for a drink or a snack in the dark.

Sure, at about $270-$300 (depending on the color), these coolers are pricey. But convenience in the field? That's priceless.

Popular mattress startup Casper also makes really impressive sheets — and they're all 30% off right now

Insider Picks writes about products and services to help you navigate when shopping online. Insider, Inc. receives a commission from our affiliate partners when you buy through our links, but our reporting and recommendations are always independent and objective.

casper sheets main

  • Casper is known first and foremost for its mattresses, but it has also expanded into making bedding products like sheets and pillows.
  • I tried a selection of their new line and was rewarded with a comfortable sleep experience: The cotton sheets are cool and crisp, the duvet cover is weighty and well-designed, and the pillow is soft yet supportive.
  • From a mattress-first company, the bedding is impressively good and offered at a reasonable price, too.
  • Right now while supplies last, all Casper sheets are 30% off
  • We know our readers can’t pass up a great deal. You can find coupons and promo codes for Casper here.

When shopping for bedding, I tend to look for the brands that make it their core business and have been producing it for years — but when I heard about mattress start-up Casper's foray into bedding, I was intrigued. At $140, its Cool Supima queen-sized sheet set sits between the value-focused Brooklinen and $200+ options from Parachute, Boll & Branch, and Snowe, so purely based on price, it seemed to strike a good balance. Since Casper clearly has an understanding of the mattresses people like to sleep on, I hoped that it could also perfect the bedding that goes over that mattress.

I tried Casper's sheets, duvet cover, and pillow, and after many nights of great sleep, I can now count its bedding products among my favorites. Below, I break down how this mattress-first company won me over with its bedding.

The sheets

The Cool Supima sheet set comes with one flat sheet, one fitted sheet, and two standard pillowcases (one pillowcase for twin/twin XL sizes). It's available in six cool-toned combinations of white, blue, and slate gray. I opted for the white/slate color because I wanted the clean, neutral look of a hotel room, but not the sterility of an all-white ensemble.

I encountered no problems changing into these sheets. The thick stretchy elastic on the inside of the fitted sheet is rubberized, letting it grip onto the mattress and leaving little room for the sheets to move around.

I found that while it was just slightly big, it wasn't enough to bother me and Casper says the extra fabric is to account for the industry-standard two percent shrink factor. If you'd like, you can wash the sheets before your first use. As for the flat sheet, my personal preference is to not sleep with one, but if my experience with the fitted sheet and pillowcases are any indication, the flat sheet should be equally enjoyable to sleep with.

The sheet set is made from extra-long staple Supima cotton, which represents less than 1% of cotton grown in the world. These long continuous fibers are stronger and softer than the shorter fibers of regular cotton, resulting in longer-lasting, piling-resistant, and comfortable sheets that are certainly worth the investment. Meanwhile, the percale weave — a standard one-yarn-over, one-yarn-under weave — is what gives the sheets their crisp, cool feel. They're perfect for the summer and warmer climates, or if you tend to overheat in your sleep.

sheet set

The duvet cover

For an additional $90 to $140, you can add a matching duvet cover to your sheet set, and we highly recommend you do so. Insider Picks senior editor Ellen Hoffman, who also tested the sheets and cover set, can't praise it enough for its superior design details that solve for the annoying inconveniences of typical duvet covers. There's no way you'll button up the wrong buttons and have to start all over again because there are no buttons, just a zipper and snaps in the corners. And if your duvet shifts around inside, there are hidden openings that let you readjust the duvet without having to undo the whole cover.

The cover is not overpoweringly heavy at all but still has that soothing weight you appreciate at the end of the day. It's probably too warm for the summer, but for the remaining chilly nights of the year, it does the job well.

The pillow

I sleep on a memory foam pillow that's on the firmer side, so I can usually expect an adjustment period of at least one night whenever I try out new pillows. To my surprise and delight, I settled immediately into Casper's pillow.

pillows

My theory for this seamless transition is the pillow's two-layer construction, which strikes the balance between firmness and softness that most sleepers are looking for. The inner pillow provides a foundation of firm support, while the outer pillow is soft and fluffy.

Filled with polyester microfiber and covered by a 100% cotton percale weave fabric, it adapted to my movements and always stayed cool throughout the night. The pillow is also easy to clean: just unzip the outer pillow, remove the inner pillow, and throw both in the washing machine.

Whether you own Casper's mattress or not, its bedding is worth trying (especially since it gives you a 100-night trial) and has proven to me that Casper is in the business of giving you the best sleep — through any type of product.

Arianna Huffington Bed

  • Successful people have various habits they like to stick to before bed.
  • Some like to read, while others like to have a bath, or suround themselves with humidifiers.
  • Here are the pre-bedtime habits of 13 highly successful entrepreneurs, world leaders, and celebrities.

It can be tough trying to fit everything into the day. Sometimes it can feel impossible to get everything done in 24 hours, and, as a result, the thing many of us tend to cut back on is sleep.

According to research from the Sleep Foundation, adults need somewhere between seven and nine hours of sleep every night. The National Health Service says if you don't get enough sleep, it can be really bad for your health. However, many of us still think it's okay to stay up too late and get up too early.

Some highly successful people put their fortunes down to only sleeping a few hours a night. President Trump, for example, only spends about four hours in bed. Others, however, are a bit more normal with their bedtime routines.

We looked into the pre-bed habits of some of the most successful people in the world to see what changes we could be making.

Scroll down to see what 13 highly successful people do before they hit the hay.

This is the one vitamin you should take if you want to remember your dreams

  • Dreams are notoriously difficult to remember.
  • There's nothing more annoying than feeling a dream slipping away.
  • According to new research, vitamin B6 could help you remember your dreams better.
  • B6 is found in cereals, fish, eggs, and some fruits and vegetables.

I'm one of those people who dreams every night. I don't know if it's because I have an overactive imagination, or I drink too much caffeine, but every morning I wake up knowing my mind has been somewhere else for the duration of my sleep.

What's really annoying, though, is waking up knowing you had an intriguing, vivid dream, and then feeling it slip away. It's like trying to catch a snowflake — once it starts disappearing, it's gone forever.

According to a study from 2018, taking one particular vitamin could help you remember those dreams you keep losing. The research, published in the journal Perceptual and Motor Skills, found that taking high-dose vitamin B6 supplements before going to bed helped people remember their dreams.

Researchers at the University of Adelaide recruited 100 people, half of which took 240mg vitamin B6 pills for five consecutive days, while the other half took a placebo. It was a small study, but the results did show those who took the vitamins could better recall their dreams than the placebo group. (Neither group knew what they were taking.)

Participants said of their experiences that their dreams were "clearer and easier to remember," and they didn't "lose fragments as the day went on." Another said "My dreams were more real, I couldn't wait to go to bed and dream!"

The study's author, Denholm Aspy from the University's School of Psychology, added: "Vitamin B6 did not affect the vividness, bizarreness or colour of their dreams, and did not affect other aspects of their sleep patterns."

Aspy added that this is the first time a study into the effects of vitamin B6 and other B vitamins on dreams has been carried out on "a large and diverse group of people."

Productive dreaming

The average person spends around six years of their lives dreaming, according to Aspy, meaning if we work out how to control them, we could use them more productively.

"Lucid dreaming, where you know that you are dreaming while the dream is still happening, has many potential benefits," he said. "For example, it may be possible to use lucid dreaming for overcoming nightmares, treating phobias, creative problem solving, refining motor skills and even helping with rehabilitation from physical trauma."

But in order to effectively dream lucidly, you need to first be able to consistently remember your dreams. Adding more B6 to your diet could be one way to do this, according to the study. It's found in foods like whole grain cereals, legumes, bananas, avocado, spinach, potato, milk, cheese, eggs, red meat, and fish.

According to an article in Scientific American, dreams are notoriously difficult to recall because the processes that allow us to create long-term memories are not occurring while we sleep. For example, the neurotransmitter norepinephrine, which is important for remembering, is at very low levels when we sleep.

Also, we are more likely to remember a dream that is more emotional or logical. Vivid, emotional dreams or nightmares mean your brain and body are more stimulated, which means you're more likely to wake up — and waking up straight from a dream means you are more likely to remember it.

There are some techniques that can help you recall your dreams better, such as reminding yourself just before you go to sleep that you want to remember your dreams. Also, keep a notepad and pen by the bed, so you can jot down anything you immediately remember when you wake up.

"Even if you do not think you can remember a dream, take just a minute to see if there is any feeling or image you can describe," said Deirdre Barrett, author of "The Committee of Sleep, in Scientific American."

"Following these simple steps may cause an entire dream to come flooding back."

I went inside the now-closed NYC napping lounge where people paid up to $250 a month to nap in dark, private pods at any time of day — here's what they looked like

Nap York

  • Nap York is a 24-hour facility in midtown Manhattan that lets people drop in to sleep in pods, from a 30-minute power nap to a multiple-hour slumber session designed for travelers who have layovers at one of the nearby airports.
  • Visitors can pay $15 for a 30-minute nap or up to $250 a month for a membership that includes five naps a week.
  • Studies have found that naps improve immune system health, energy, cognitive function, and emotional control.
  • Nap York was forced to vacate its premises in September 2018 after the city found two of its floors had been "illegally converted into a hotel for transient use" and were lacking proper exits and sprinkler systems, a Department of Buildings representative told Business Insider.
  • Nap York plans on opening three to five new locations in NYC in 2019, a representative for Nap York told Business Insider after the closure.

A few blocks from Times Square, in the middle of one of New York City's busiest neighborhoods, is an urban oasis where sleep-deprived New Yorkers can swap their shoes for slippers, drink a cup of tea, and take a nap.

That's the idea behind Nap York, which opened in February, offering 30-minute naps in sleep pods for $10. Seven months later, prices have risen slightly, to $15 for half an hour, and there are additional options for monthly memberships.

For $35 a month, you can pop into Nap York for one 30-minute nap a week. The priciest membership is the $250-a-month Gold Premium, which includes five naps — up to 90 minutes each — per week. You can also book a longer nap starting $50 for three hours with each additional hour costing $7.

The pods are strictly single-occupancy. Visitors can also take a shower, get a massage, or relax in one of the hammocks on the roof.

Reza Moreno, the community director for Nap York, told Business Insider that a large chunk of its visitors were travelers who need a place to sleep for a few hours during their layover at a nearby airport.

But she stressed that Nap York is not a hotel. Visitors can't book multiple long sleep sessions in a row.

"We just give the convenience for those who literally just need a place to bonk out for the night," Moreno said.

During the day, Nap York sees office workers who pop in for a half-hour power nap on their lunch break. In the summertime, some sweaty New Yorkers even dropped by to take a shower before a business meeting.

Here's what it's like inside Nap York.

Nap York has had about 8,000 people come in for naps since it opened in February, according to Moreno.

When you step inside, you're greeted by screens that display the various nap and membership options available. There are also several large plants, which instantly hooked me, a stereotypically plant-loving millennial.

  • Cats need lots of protein and fat in their diets to be healthy, so it's important that you feed them the best cat food you can buy: ZiwiPeak's wet food.
  • Packed with premium ingredients that are ethically farmed and locally sourced, ZiwiPeak sets a new standard for quality when it comes to nutrient-rich cat food.

Cats are obligate carnivores, which means that they have a biological need for meat. Your cat may be able to digest certain plant products in limited amounts, but protein should be the focus of his diet and it needs to come from premium animal sources. A high-quality cat food will always list a source of animal protein as the first ingredient with plenty of healthy animal fats and limited carbohydrates. Never purchase a cat food that is made with corn, wheat, or soy ingredients, or one that uses artificial additives like colors, flavors, and artificial preservatives.

Shopping for cat food can be a challenge because there are so many options to choose from. Unless you have a thorough understanding of your cat’s nutritional needs and knowledge of how to read a pet food label, you might find the task a bit overwhelming. You’ll be glad to know, then, that we’re done the hard work for you. We’ve scoured the reviews and taken a deeper look into the best pet food brands on the market to bring you our top five picks for high-quality cat food brands.

What your check engine light really means

Check engine light

  • The check engine light is ubiquitous. The little orange light is on every dashboard and you are virtually guaranteed that it'll come on at some point during the time you own your car
  • The light is triggered by the car's onboard diagnostic system and is usually related to the fuel system, air intake, and emissions.
  • According to Kelley Blue Book's Michael Harley, the light doesn't mean your is in imminent danger, but it does mean you should go have it checked out before the issues get any worse.

The check engine light is ubiquitous. The little orange light is on every dashboard and you are virtually guaranteed that it'll come on at some point during the time you own your car.

The check engine light strikes fear into the hearts of some motorists while others simply let it ride.

So, what does the check engine light really mean?

"The main goal with the check engine light is to alert the consumer that something is potentially wrong with their car," Michael Harley, executive editor of Kelley Blue Book, said in an interview with Business Insider.

For drivers, the light doesn't mean your car is in immediate trouble.

"The good news is that danger is not imminent," Harley said.  "This is one of these systems that says 'hey it's time to go in for a checkup,' it does not mean your car is breaking down, it does not mean you have a system failure that going to cause great harm immediately."

"You can generally continue to your destination," he added.

According to Harley, what the light does mean is that you should probably have your car checked out as soon as possible by a qualified technician at a dealership or an independent shop.

Read more: 25 hot cars at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

The engine light is tied to your car's ODB-II onboard diagnostic and reporting system that been around in the auto industry for a couple of decades now. The system collects errors readings from various sensors around the car.

In fact, cars made since the mid-1990s are equipped with an ODB-II connector, usually located in the front dash under the steering wheel. You can actually buy a reader, many cost less than $20, that will plug into the socket and be able to tell you what error codes are triggering the light.

ODB II ConnectorSo what will usually set off the light?

"Generally, they are related to emissions, the fuel system, the air intake, things like that," Harley said.

According to Harley, the most common reason for a check engine light to trigger is a loose gas cap.

"One of the main ODB-II measurements is vehicle emissions and it's not just the exhaust coming out of the tailpipe, there also fuel vapor emissions coming out of the fuel cap which is also harmful to the environment," Harley said.

So make sure you tighten your gas cap the next time you fill up.

The second most common reason for the light to trigger are faulty oxygen or O2 sensors. The sensors measures how cleanly and effectively the engine is burning fuel.

The oxygen sensor will actually trigger the check engine light if it detects abnormalities with the way your engine is burning fuel, Harley said.

However, a faulty oxygen sensor can also trigger the check engine light.

According to Harley, an oxygen sensor problem is an example of an instance where you shouldn't let the light stay on. The oxygen sensor sits in front of the car's catalytic converter, a device that turns harmful emissions into less harmful emissions. Since a faulty O2 sensor can feed excessive pollutants into the catalytic converter, it could reduce the service life of the device.

"Catalytic converters are not inexpensive," Harley said.

The suicide death of a 23-year-old Olympic cyclist highlights a disturbing trend. Her former coach says we could be doing more.

kelly catlin cyclist dead at 23 suicide

  • A startling new report from the American Psychological Association suggests that depression rates have spiked more than 50% since 2007 in teens and young adults.
  • Young people from 12-25 are also reporting more suicidal thoughts, plans, and suicide attempts.
  • Last week, 23 year-old Olympic bicyclist and Stanford graduate student Kelly Catlin died by suicide, after sustaining a concussion during winter training. This wasn't the first death by suicide at that school in 2019.
  • Psychologists are worried that kids are getting less sleep and spending more time on their phones.

Last week, 23-year-old Olympic bicyclist Kelly Catlin died by suicide Friday at Stanford University. She is not the first student the university has lost that way this year, but doctors, psychologists, and coaches across the US are worried about the mental health of the nation's young people far beyond the halls of Stanford.

There's a quiet, deadly, and troubling trend on the rise: more young people of all ages are thinking about suicide, attempting suicide, and dying by suicide.  Even though suicide rates are going up in nearly all age groups across the US, the trends that are happening in people under 26 are unique, according to a new study published in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology.

When researchers looked at questionnaire responses to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health from over 600,000 teens and adults across the US, they found that rates of major depressive episodes have more than doubled since the mid-2000s, in kids as young as 12 and young adults up to 25.  Suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts are also going up markedly in young people.

"These trends are weak or non-existent among adults 26 years and over, suggesting a generational shift in mood disorders," lead study author and psychologist Jean Twenge said in a press release. "More U.S. adolescents and young adults ... experienced serious psychological distress, major depression or suicidal thoughts, and more attempted suicide."

The trends are not specific to any social group, economic class, sex, or race, but the researchers did see some of the biggest upticks in young women, and people in their young 20s were especially vulnerable. Suicide is now the second leading cause of death for all US teens and young adults from ages 10 to 35, after accidents.

kelly catlin and cycling teammates at 2016 olympics in rio.JPG

Kelly Catlin was a first year master's student studying computational and mathematical engineering, and an accomplished cyclist who won silver in the 2016 Rio Olympics. She was also a fraternal triplet, and is now mourned by her brother Colin and sister Christine.

Her first bicycling coach, Charlie Townsend of NorthStar Development Cycling in Minnesota, remembers Catlin as a jaw-dropping star cyclist who rose quickly into national and international competitions in less than two years on the team.

Last winter, Catlin sustained a concussion during training. Her sister Christine told the Associated Press Catlin was having "really bad headaches" and was more sensitive to light after the accident. She attempted suicide once in January, but seemed to be doing better recently.

Studies show experiencing a concussion can increase a person's risk of suicide 2-fold, and while evidence is still scant, there are also indications that elite athletes are at higher risk for anxiety and depression, which are both risk factors for suicide. High-profile athletes like Michael Phelps and Missy Franklin have become increasingly open about their own mental health and depression issues.

"I think she put very, very high expectations on herself," Townsend said of Catlin. "For the most part, she met those expectations."

He wishes coaches were better at helping young athletes not only achieve success, but also deal with setbacks and defeats: "The suicide really has caused me to do a lot of thinking about what the right way to develop kids is, and what they really need to go forward — not just in cycling — but in the rest of their life."

ER doctors are seeing more young kids who've attempted suicide

Athletes are not the only young people at risk. Researchers recently took a look at three different urban emergency rooms across the US, and found that a third of kids from ages 10 to 12 screened positive for suicide risk.

"Typically, suicidal thoughts and behaviors are seen in older teens," study author Lisa Horowitz, a clinical scientist at the National Institute of Mental Health, said in a release on that study. "This study shows that children as young as 10 who show up in the emergency department may be thinking about suicide, and that screening all preteens — regardless of their presenting symptoms — may save lives."

Researchers aren't sure why this is happening, but they think that both more screen time and less sleep may play a role. The two often go hand in hand: studies show that the glowing lights of a phone or TV affect our sleep quality, and there's also plenty of data suggesting people are getting up more often in the middle of the night to check on their buzzing phones.

"Overall, make sure digital media use doesn't interfere with activities more beneficial to mental health such as face-to-face social interaction, exercise and sleep," Twenge said.

What to do if you're worried someone might be suicidal

Depression and mental illness can't be willed away, and it's not a character flaw. Remember that traumatic events that lead to depression can happen to anyone, and more than 1 in 20 Americans suffer from depression on any given day.

There are several warning signs to keep an eye out for if you're worried that someone close to you may be suicidal. These include:

  • Threatening to hurt or kill themselves
  • Looking for ways to complete suicide, like getting access to pills or a gun
  • Talking about death, dying, or suicide out loud or on social media
  • Rage and revenge-seeking
  • Being reckless or doing uncharacteristically risky things
  • Feeling trapped and withdrawing from social activities
  • Anxiety or trouble sleeping
  • Dramatic shifts in mood

Only a medical professional can diagnose someone as suicidal, but asking the question, "Are you thinking about killing yourself?" and providing a safe space for someone to talk about their feelings without judgment or shame can be extremely helpful.

  • Our cell phones hold 18 times more bacteria than a public restroom
  • While most of us focus on keeping our hands sanitized, our cell phones often go neglected, leaving bacteria to thrive on our devices.
  • PhoneSoap is a small device that uses UV-C light to sanitize your phone, killing 99.9% of common household germs and ultimately keeping you healthier.

How often do you wash your hands? What about your face? Or, your clothes?

The answer probably is — or should be (though I'm not here to tell you how to live your life): a lot.

Now how often do you wash your phone?

The answer is probably close to never, but it shouldn't be. For most of us, our phones are like appendages, traveling with us everywhere we go, accompanying us through all of our daily activities. Maybe you take a cloth to your phone every now and then to wipe away the smudges and call it a day, but if you think that actually cleans it, you're in for a rude awakening.

A cell phone has 18 times more bacteria than a public restroom. That might sound crazy, but think about it — everything your hands touch touches your phone too. So, that bacteria lurking on the grocery cart you pushed, the door knob you opened, the subway pole you held — well, you know where it ends up.

If these cringe-worthy facts just made you never want to touch your phone again, I get it. Luckily, there's a solution — and no, it doesn't involve dousing your phone in hand sanitizer.

Meet PhoneSoap, the little gadget that safely sanitizes your phone, leaving your device free of bacteria and you with some peace of mind.

phonesoap1

How it works

PhoneSoap has a simple but effective design. It looks like a small, rectangular box — making it the perfect size to keep on your bedside table, at your office desk, or even your kitchen counter. On the outside of the box, you'll find space for three cables — the power cord, a USB, and a USB-C. To get the PhoneSoap set up, simply plug the included power cord into the wall, then into the PhoneSoap and you're all set to get sanitizing. Place your phone inside the gadget and close. Once closed, you'll see the lightning bolt power signal turn blue — this means it's charging. After ten minutes, the light will turn off and your phone is ready to go. If you'd like to charge your phone simultaneously, you have the option to plug in your personal USB or USB-C cord.

So, you put your phone in a box and it cleans it, but how does it actually get the cleaning done? The power of PhoneSoap comes in the form of UV-C light. Inside the little box are two powerful UV-C lightbulbs. UV-C light is germicidal, meaning it breaks down the DNA of nasty bacteria so it can no longer function or reproduce. The lightbulbs on the top and bottom of the device, paired with the reflective interior inside the entire gadget, help achieve 360-degree disinfection — so even the tiny, hard-to-reach crevices of your phone are clean. The UV-C light is so powerful, that it only needs ten minutes to get your phone clean — after that time, PhoneSoap automatically turns off, so don't worry about your phone getting overheated.

phonesoappetri

Does it actually work?

You've probably heard that bacteria is good for you. It boosts our immunity, right? Well, the answer is not that simple. Our bodies do count on some strains of bacteria to function properly, but there are also many forms of bacteria that are harmful and can cause illness and infections. Laboratory tests have shown that PhoneSoap kills 99.9% of common household germs, including bacteria that leads to E.Coli, Salmonella, Staph, Flu, and the common cold.

To some, this product might seem more placebo effect than practical, but the numbers tell a different story — 99.9% is almost all of the germy grime on your phone. Plus, sanitizing with UV-C light isn't new — hospitals and laboratories have been using UV light to keep facilities sterile since the mid-20th century.

As for us, the consumers, I guess there's no way we can really tell that our phone is cleaner. What we can rely on, though, is the data from all of the testing PhoneSoap has done to gauge the effectiveness of the product, and the lab pictures they've got to accompany it (see above).

Bottom Line

For better or for worse, our phones are sticking with us. And, unless you're planning on washing your hands and face before and after each time you pick up your device, all that bacteria is sticking with you too. PhoneSoap is an simple solution to keep harmful bacteria from spreading — not only from your phone to you, but from you to others as well. If you live with anyone who may have a compromised immune system — young children, elderly or ill individuals — PhoneSoap could be a particularly important investment.

At $60, it's generally just a great investment for anyone. PhoneSoap is large enough to fit all phones on the market, even with a case on. Additionally, you can throw in anything else that will fit — earphones, watches, even wallets.

And it's more than just peace of mind. PhoneSoap gives real results that'll help keep you and the people around you healthier. Germaphobe or not, if you're going to treat your phone like your third hand, you should clean it like one, too.

I stayed in a tiny, adults-only beach villa off the coast of Africa that runs nearly $1,000 per night, and it was the closest thing I've ever found to an ideal honeymoon destination

ZanzibarBestMostLuxuriousHotel KilindiElewana (34 of 42)

  • I recently stayed at a boutique hotel called Kilindi on a trip to Zanzibar.
  • It was designed as a getaway for a member of the 1980s pop group ABBA, but has since been turned into a luxurious eco-friendly beach getaway that costs around $1,000 a night including meals, drinks, and activities.
  • While I had never heard of Kilindi before, I found that it might be the most perfect romantic getaway hotel I've ever seen. Each guest stays in a private villa overlooking the beach with its own pool, can dine on excellent food anywhere in the hotel (including your villa), and has a private butler who makes sure your stay is exactly what you want it to be.

I've always wondered what it would like to live inside the dreamworld of one of the stars from ABBA, the Swedish pop group megapopular in the 1980s that eventually inspired the hit musical Mamma Mia.

Okay, you caught me. I've never wondered that. But after spending a few nights inside the beachside villas designed for Benny Andersson, one of ABBA's members and now a film composer, I can say I dream about it now. The man had impeccable taste.

Located on Zanzibar, a stunning archipelago off the coast of Africa, Elewana Kilindi Zanzibaropened to swanky travelers in 2009 with the idea of turning the all-inclusive beach vacation on its head.

Each guest stays in one of 15 eco-friendly villas that combine Swedish minimalism with Arabic architectural shapes. Meals are served up from a daily menu by German-Italian chef Lucas Wollman featuring local seafood and flavors inspired by Zanzibar's history of African, Arabic, Asian, and island influences. Each guest gets his or her own butler, who is on call at all times. The entire 50-acre property is made up into a lush tropical garden and sits on top of clear turquoise waters where locals still work to harvest seaweed.

For those looking for the beach honeymoon destination of their dreams, look no further. I think I've found the platonic ideal, so long as you can afford the approximately $1,000 a night it costs to stay there.

Keep reading to see what it was like:

SEE ALSO: I didn't think the $1 billion hotel considered 'the most luxurious in the world' could possibly live up to the hype. I was very wrong.

Kilindi is on Zanzibar, an archipelago off the coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean better known as the "Spice Islands." For hundreds of years, Zanzibar was at the center of the spice trade, where it was a leading producer of nutmeg, cloves, saffron, cinnamon, and vanilla. These days, Zanzibar is better known as a tropical vacation spot.

While the south is dominated by the main city, Stone Town, and the airport, the north is full of gorgeous beaches — think powdery white beaches and turquoise waters — and resorts.

When I flew in last February, I drove the 90 minutes north to Kilindi, a boutique hotel considered by many to be the most beautiful Zanzibar has to offer. When I arrived, I immediately noticed the plants and flowers that had overtaken the property.

A buzzy $3.2 billion startup that helps you get braces without seeing a dentist is planning to go public

SmileDirectClub, a provider of at-home teeth straightening systems that lets users bypass the orthodontist's office, has picked bankers for an upcoming IPO, Axios has learned.

Details: The Nashville-based company expects to file its S-1 document by the end of June, with J.P. Morgan listed as lead manager. It was launched 6 years ago and expects to do at least $1 billion in 2019 revenue.

  • SDC has raised nearly $400 million in private funding, including an infusion last fall at a $3.2 billion post-money valuation. Backers include Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, Spark Capital and Kleiner Perkins. Both Spark and KP did the deals out of their growth funds.
  • A company spokeswoman declined comment for this story.

SDC's top comp is Align Technologies, the maker of Invisalign products, which generated nearly $2 billion in revenue last year and has a market cap just north of $20 billion. One big difference is that SDC doesn't use orthodontist offices for distribution, as does Align, which has led some orthodontist organizations to file safety complaints with state dental boards.

  • But Align also was a large investor in SDC, with around a 19% stake.
  • SDC last year sued Align for violating a non-compete agreement, and an arbitrator ruled in SDC's favor earlier this month.
  • The ruling requires Align to sell back its equity in SDC to the company (at a below-market rate), close all 12 of its Invisalign stores and extend the non-compete agreement through August 2022.

Weezie is a new bath-linen startup making monogrammed towels cool again — here's what makes them different

weezie towel review 1

  • Weezie is a new online startup focused on stylish, high-quality, and accessible luxury bath towels.
  • The Oeko-Tex certified towels are made from 100% organic long-staple cotton and are extra soft, fluffy, and absorbent.
  • We love its large and durable Bath Towel ($58) and unexpectedly useful Makeup Towels ($40 per pair).
  • Another reason to love the towels: they're customizable for an extra $15 each. The various custom options look modern and help you create a truly personal bath or gifting experience.

There's a clear difference in experience when you walk into a large chain hotel versus a quaint bed and breakfast. Enter the former and you're whisked through an efficient check-in and sent promptly to #1049 in the east wing of the building. Enter the latter and you'll receive a personalized welcome, complete with a mug of freshly brewed coffee (or glass of bubbly) and an exchange of life stories before you even climb the stairs to your room.

Shopping at Weezie, a new, online towel startup, is like staying at the bed and breakfast instead of the hotel chain. Based in "The Hostess City" of Savannah, Georgia, the company will make you feel right at home — the one you want to create, not just the one you have right now — with its collection of plush, customizable bathroom towels.

Weezie was founded by Lindsey Johnson, an angel investor and recent Columbia Business School grad, and Liz Eichholz, a former Creative Director at Bustle and graphic designer. While on the hunt for new towels, the two friends discovered it was truly a search of long and confusing proportions. Affordable towels lacked quality, and if they wanted personalized towels, the process took too long or was too expensive.

weezie towel review 2

One of the few direct-to-consumer home startups to put the bathroom towel first, Weezie is everything they couldn't find in the existing bath space. The towels are soft and absorbent, made from high-quality materials, customizable with plenty of stylish options, environmentally safe (Oeko-Tex certified), and reasonably priced (at least as far as luxury towels go).

On its site, you can shop makeup towels, washcloths, hand towels, bath towels, and bath sheets, each with seven color options for piping around the border. Weezie also offers a starter pack of four bath towels and two hand towels for a discounted price.

All the towels are made from 100% organic long-staple cotton, which is stronger and more absorbent than regular cotton. The absorbency is further improved through spinning technology that traps air within each fiber and makes the towels extra soft and fluffy.

In my experience using the Weezie Bath Towel ($58), I found it was as comfortable and absorbent as more expensive luxe towels, but not as heavy (if you care for the exact specs, the washcloths and hand towels are 500 grams per square meter and the bath towels and bath sheets are 650 grams per square meter). For its plush feel, it was surprisingly light and dried me off quickly.

The company says the hypo-allergenic towels shed up to four times less than traditional towels, but I've actually experienced zero shedding in the four months I've used my towel. While I usually rotate among a few different sets of towels, I have yet to switch out of my Weezie ones yet because they're so fluffy, absorbent, and lint-resistant, even after many washes.

Insider Picks reporter Mara Leighton, meanwhile, loves Weezie's cute, best-selling Makeup Towels ($40/pair), which cleverly come in navy so you can keep your white towels clean. She says:

"Towels made specifically for one thing — like removing makeup — make me think of the joke that women get sold products made laughably hyperspecific, like lotions for an elbow patch, while men get six-in-one bottles of shampoo that can also clean their car upholstery.

But, these towels are actually really nice to have, and I’ve bought them for friends since getting them myself. They’re soft, my nice towels no longer have black mascara stains, and — I’ll admit it — it’s kind of fun to have a cute set of matching face towels for my daily routine that I don’t hate leaving out."

weezie towel review 4

For an extra $15 per towel (makeup towels not included), you can add a personal touch with custom embroidery. There are five embroidery styles, ranging from a single block monogram to a 12-character cursive script, and 10 color options, resulting in 50 possible combinations of your perfect towel.

If you need help customizing the towels for you or as a gift for someone else, Weezie offers a embroidery guide so you can feel confident making your design.

The custom options at home stores like Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma can look stuffy and outdated, but Weezie's variety, particularly the Mercer and River styles and the brighter color options, make bathroom towels look fun, lively, and stylish.

If you do choose to customize your towels, they'll take an extra two weeks to make, but the wait will be worth it. With these luxe towels hanging in your bathroom, or more often than not, draped around your body, you'll feel a new love and fondness for this long overlooked bathroom essential.
