The login screen is the first thing you see each time you start your Windows 10 computer, so you may want to customize it.

You can set it to show a picture from your photo library, a stock photo selected by Windows, or choose a set of photos to use as a slideshow.

Many people dread reuniting with their extended family over the Thanksgiving dinner table, but perhaps no one more than single women.

Worse than arguments over politics or overcooked turkey, those women will have to endure endless questions about when they plan to get married and start families. Billionaire Spanx founder Sara Blakely faced "THAT question" for almost twenty straight Thanksgiving dinners, she wrote on LinkedIn on Monday.

For women in that position this year, Blakely has a simple piece of advice: "Be the CEO your parents always wanted you to marry!"

"I didn't get married until I was 37," the now 48-year-old billionaire wrote on LinkedIn. "I remember going out to eat alone A LOT in my 20s and 30s and getting looks from people who felt sorry for me. Well-meaning women used to say to me, 'it's ok honey... you'll meet a nice man someday...' It was rare that anyone ever encouraged me to stand on my own two feet and to have dreams for myself."

Instead of searching for a successful man to marry, Blakely got a full-time job selling fax machines for office-supply company Danka while operating her shapewear business as a side hustle. In 2000, she quit her day job to focus on Spanx full-time, Business Insider previously reported. Blakely ran her side business out of her Atlanta apartment and would often come home to boxes of Spanx stacked in front of her front door so high that she needed help from neighbors to move them. Blakely wrote that she was inspired to "be the CEO of my own life" by her mother and grandmothers, who never had the same opportunity.

"I eventually did get married to the best hubby Jesse Itzler but it was after I started Spanx built a global brand and became a CEO," Blakely wrote.

Clearly, things worked out for the entrepreneur. Blakely is ranked by Forbes as one of the richest self-made women in the country with a net worth of $1 billion.

• Amazon and the proliferation of online shopping have led to the demise of many brick-and-mortar stores, whose customers are turning to the internet for their purchases.
• In a popular thread on Reddit, users were recently asked what businesses and stores they miss the most have been "killed" off by the internet.
• From Blockbuster to music record stores, these are some of the retailers that Reddit users wish were still around.

Online shopping has made it easier and faster than ever to make purchases that you used to be able to do only in brick-and-mortar stores, but there are aspects of the pre-internet retail industry that some people still miss.

A Reddit user recently posed a question in the sub-Reddit, r/AskReddit, about which stores and businesses users miss the most that have been "killed" by the internet. The question was met with thousands of responses from users, many of who were nostalgic about now-defunct stores they frequented in their childhood and brick-and-mortar retailers who closed because of dominating online competitors.

We picked out the top answers, based on the number of points — a combination of upvotes and downvotes by fellow reddit users — the store received. Take a look at the most popular answers from Reddit users about the stores they miss the most that have been put out of business by the advent of the internet era:

Hastings Entertainment — 4,700 points

Hastings may not be as well known as Blockbusters, but the retail chain offered video rentals, and also sold movies, video games, and other forms of entertainment. It filed for bankruptcy in 2016, and closed all of its stores that year.

"Hastings was THE spot for us small town kids to go hang out at on the weekends," one Reddit user said. "I had my first cigarette in a Hastings parking lot."

Hardware stores — 5,600 points

Independent hardware stores have been disappearing over the years, in favor of chains like Ace Hardware and Lowe's.

A Reddit user said they missed the knowledge of "the guy in the hardware store" who "actually knows what tool does what and can help you find the best fasteners and stuff."

Borders Books — 9,000 points

The bookstore chain Borders closed in 2011 after 40 years in business, even as Barnes & Nobles perseveres in the Amazon-dominated business.

"I used to hang out at my local one after school every day. Went to the release parties for four Harry Potter books too," one respondent wrote. "I remember the way it smelled, the way the coffee tasted, the comfortable spaces where you could sit and read. I miss that."

Vinyl record stores — 9,100 points

Although vinyl is making a small comeback thanks to hipsters, music streaming and digital downloads have made record stores all but obsolete.

"I could spend an hour in there," a Reddit user wrote of the once widespread record stores. "I loved looking at the new albums, the ones my mom wouldn't let me get yet because they had parental advisory, poring over the artwork."

Nature Company stores — 10,600 points

A personal favorite of this reporter, The Nature Company was full of educational toys, science experiments, and anything a curious kid might want. Discovery acquired The Nature Company back in 1996, and all its storefronts were closed by 2000.

"It was great, then one day it was just gone," Reddit user u/FightingBlaze77 said in a comment. "Wish it was still around today, so that it would still be cool to learn."

Used book stores — 11,400 points

Bookstores selling cheap used books are still around, but not nearly as abundant as they once were. Today, in-store book sales are on the decline as many turn to Amazon for digital copies and books delivered right to their doors.

"There was this hole in the wall used bookstore my dad used to take me to," a Reddit user said. "You'd walk in and when I tell you thousands of books, I mean it ... It was filled up to the ceiling and on all walls and tight aisles just full of books."

RadioShack — 14,100 points

RadioShack used to be the place to explore thousands of dollars of electronic toys and fancy items you would beg your parents to buy. But after filing for bankruptcy twice, RadioShack started to shutter its stores in 2017 after nearly 100 years in business.

"I used to always go in there with friends and look at all the remote control helicopters and the crazy TiVo devices and everything that I thought was so awesome," one Reddit user said. "It's so weird how those things were so revolutionary and now it's just like, 'Oh yeah you can get that at Walmart for $5.'"

Hobby shops — 19,000 points

Instead of arts-and-crafts chains like Michaels and Hobby Lobby, many Reddit users said they used to visit small-town hobby stores for model airplane parts and other collectors' items.

"I f---king loved hobby stores as a kid," one user wrote on the thread. "There was a specific smell to those places too. Some combination of all the boxes, old wooden flooring, it was kind of intoxicating."

Blockbuster — 19,000 points

Giant movie-rental chain Blockbuster predated the era of Netflix as the place to rent movies and videos. Sadly, Blockbuster stores started closing in 2013, although one still remains today in Bend, Oregon.

"For some reason, it was way more enjoyable to stroll along the store looking for rental possibilities than it is to browse movies on Netflix/Amazon," a Reddit user commented.

Toys R Us — 23,800 points

Toys R Us was the place for children's gifts and entertainment, until the company announced it was shutting all its stores' doors in 2018. The brand may be eyeing a revival, but that hasn't yet happened.

"12 year old me misses Toys R Us," Reddit user u/windyscarecrow wrote. "My son will more than likely never experience the joy of being let loose in a giant toy store."

Arcades — 31,000 points

While arcade games have seen a resurgence presence in bars, transforming them into adult playgrounds, arcades featuring Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Street Fighter no longer exist as a standard venue for children to spend hours feeding quarters into machines after school.

"My dad used to drop me off at a nickel arcade with 5 bucks," one Reddit user wrote. "I felt like a KING."

On Thanksgiving, people across the United States devour feasts that typically consist of turkey, stuffing, potatoes, and pie.

But Thanksgiving meals can also vary depending on where you live. 

To get a better picture of Americans' favorite side dish recipes in each state, Business Insider consulted Google. Looking at search data from the past four years, Google's researchers found the most uniquely highly searched recipe that people in every state (plus Washington DC) Googled during November.

The researchers didn't look at the most popular dish for every state (which would've been pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and apple pie in all 50). Instead, they focused on the most distinct, and then found the recipes with the highest search volume for each state.

By the end of 2019, Everlane will likely have raised over $1 million through its Black Friday Fund. In the past, Everlane has used its funds for various projects — from building solar panels in China to implementing a wellness program for its Los Angeles factory workers. Other brands known for their focus on sustainability, such as REI and Patagonia, have taken a similar approach on Black Friday.

4. In this menu, tap the second tab, labeled "Assistant," then tap the second option, "Assistant voice."

5. This will bring up a list of options. Tab through the different colors to hear different voices until you select one that you like. Once you decide, simply leave it selected and return to the home screen or close the app to save it.

You can also use a simple command to your Google Home— "Hey Google, talk like Issa" or "Hey Google, talk like a Legend" — to get Issa Rae or John Legend's voice immediately.

A mansion once owned by the late musician Tom Petty has hit the market with an asking price of $4.995 million. 

The home is currently owned by Randy Spendlove, Paramount Pictures' head of Motion Picture Music, who, the Los Angeles Daily News reports, is selling the home due to a change in his "family dynamics."

Spendlove has owned the mansion for just a year. In 2015, the estate was foreclosed on by J.P. Morgan, then sold by the bank in 2017 for $2.575 million, the OC Register reports. Spendlove bought the home in October 2018.

The home was once owned by Petty, who died after suffering cardiac arrest in his Malibu home in 2017; his ex-wife Jane Benyo got the Encino, California, property in their 1996 divorce. Benyo then unsuccessfully tried to sell the home in 2013, a few years before it was foreclosed on. 

The six-bedroom, ten-bathroom home is listed by Jade Mills and Tiffany Mills with Coldwell Banker, as well as Craig Knizek with The Agency.

Tom Petty's former home totals 11,483 square feet, with six bedrooms and ten bathrooms. The Los Angeles Daily News reports that it was rebuilt after an arsonist set fire to it in 1987 and burned down almost the entire home.

Petty and his family were eating breakfast when the arsonist doused the home's wooden staircase in flammable liquid and set it on fire. Petty, his then-wife, and their 5-year-old daughter were uninjured, but a housekeeper suffered minor burns.

The home is currently owned by Paramount Pictures executive Randy Spendlove, who bought it in October 2018 for just under $5 million.

According to the Los Angeles Daily News, the bottom floor used to be Petty's recording studio; the OC Register reports that the studio was the only thing spared after the 1987 fire. The studio was dismantled years ago.

Petty was the lead singer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The band formed in 1976 and were, as Consequence of Sound reports, at the "forefront of the heartland rock movement." They are one of the best selling bands of all time, having sold more than 80 million records across the globe.

Petty married Jane Benyo in 1974, Bustle reports, and they had two children together. After Benyo and Petty divorced in 1996, Benyo was given the house. She tried unsuccessfully to sell the home in 2013.

Agonizing over the prospect of cooking a Thanksgiving meal? No worries. There are a number of restaurants that'll throw you a Thanksgiving feast in a pinch.

Keep in mind that some of these chains will only be open on a regional basis. Others may be closed depending on the franchisee. So, if you're planning on spending Turkey Day at one of these eateries, it's better to be safe and call ahead.

With that in mind, here are restaurant chains that are going to be open in some capacity on Thanksgiving:

An Applebee's spokesperson told Business Insider that some of its restaurants nationwide will be open on Thanksgiving, and that interested diners should contact their local Applebee's for hours.

Bob Evans

All Bob Evans restaurants will remain open until 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving and will offer a specialized holiday menu, a spokesperson said in a statement to Business Insider.

Boston Market

A spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider that all Boston Market locations will remain open on Thanksgiving, and that online delivery will be available from the chain restaurant's website throughout the day.

Buca Di Deppo

Fans of Buca Di Beppo can order from a prix fixe Turkey Day menu at multiple locations. Diners on the go can also pick up a take-out Thanksgiving feast.

Cracker Barrel

Cracker Barrel has opened its doors on Thanksgiving since its 1969 founding, according to a statement from a chain spokesperson. To celebrate Turkey Day, the restaurant chain will serve an in-store Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to close, and take-out feasts will also be available for pick-up.

Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse

A chain spokesperson told Business Insider that Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse will remain open on Thanksgiving, serving a prix fixe menu and an all-day dinner.

Denny's

Denny's is open for business on Thanksgiving this year and will offer up a carry-out turkey dinner for diners as well. The take-out meal must be ordered on Denny's website at least 24 hours before pickup, a restaurant spokesperson told Business Insider.

El Pollo Loco

Certain El Pollo Loco eateries will remain open on Thanksgiving Day. A restaurant spokesperson told Business Insider that hours will vary based on location.

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar will remain open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving, and it will be serving up meals from the full menu and a special three-course special.

Fogo de Chão

Craving Brazilian flavor this Thanksgiving? All Fogo de Chão restaurants will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Hooters

A Hooters spokesperson told Business Insider that certain participating locations will be open on Thanksgiving and that interested diners should contact their local Hooters for more information.

Kona Grill

All Kona Grill restaurants will remain open on Thanksgiving from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., serving up the sushi joint's regular menu along with several special turkey selections.

Morton's The Steakhouse

A Morton's spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider that the steakhouse chain will indeed remain open on Thanksgiving, kicking off its steak dinner service at noon.

Romano's Macaroni Grill

Romano's Macaroni Grill restaurants will all remain open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving to serve a full regular menu and a prix fixe Turkey Day feast.

Smith & Wollensky

A spokesperson confirmed that Smith & Wollensky locations throughout the United States will remain open on Thanksgiving to serve guests a prix fixe offering.

STK Steakhouse

STK Steakhouse locations across the United States will be open from noon to 10 p.m. on Turkey Day, serving a full menu as well as a Thanksgiving special. The only two exceptions are the STK Steakhouse in Orlando, which will be open from 11 a.m. to midnight, and the chain's Las Vegas location, which will open its doors from noon to 11 p.m.

Sullivan's Steakhouse

Sullivan's Steakhouse restaurants will open their doors from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving, allowing guests to partake in a three-course prix fixe menu.

Starbucks

A Starbucks spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider that "select store locations" will remain open on Thanksgiving, but that store hours will vary by location.

Tony Roma's

For those looking to swap turkey for rib, multiple Tony Roma's restaurants acros the US will remain open on Thanksgiving.

A restaurant representative said that hours will vary by location.

Waffle House

Barring specific emergencies, Waffle House restaurants have been known to remain open 24 hours a day on every single day of the year since the breakfast chain's 1955 founding. Thanksgiving 2019 will be no exception.

• Mail Drop is a program on your iPhone, Mac, and iPad that allows you to send large email attachments over iCloud, thus bypassing email size limits.
• An individual message and its attachments can't exceed 5 GB in order to be sent via your iPhone's Mail Drop.
• Mail Drop links remain functional for 30 days once they are sent, after which files must be re-sent.

Most email platforms have size limits that are, to put it simply, limiting. Gmail, AOL, and Yahoo won't let you send emails greater than 25 MB. With Outlook and Hotmail, you're limited to 10 MB.

The good news is that if you're using a relatively recent iPhone, running iOS 9.2 or later, to send that extra large email, Apple's Mail Drop service has you covered. 

Mail Drop, which transfers emails and attachments via iCloud, has a huge 5 GB capacity, so there are few files that won't make it through Mail Drop. And once you send a file, the recipient will have 30 days to open it before it expires.

However, there is a 1 TB storage limit — so if you manage to send enough files to hit that limit, you'll need to wait 30 days for files to expire before you can send more.

How to use Mail Drop on your iPhone

To use Mail Drop, all you have to do is try to send an email that's too big through the default Mail app. 

A window will pop up that reads: "These attachments may be too large to send in email. Do you want to use Mail Drop to deliver these attachments using iCloud? They will be available for the next 30 days."

Tap "Use Mail Drop," and off the message goes to its intended recipient(s) thanks to the wonders of the cloud. 

The message will arrive like normal, massive size notwithstanding.

The recipient will just have to click the Mail Drop link in the email they've received, and they'll have to be checking their email on "a Mac using OS X Yosemite or later, an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 9.2 [or later], [or] a Mac or PC with an updated browser," which are the supported systems for Mail Drop, according to Apple.

Target will again give RedCard holders early access to shop more than 100 deals all day on Wednesday, November 27. Members of Target Circle (the company's free loyalty program) will get early access at 6 p.m. CT on November 27. For everyone else, Target Black Friday deals became available on Thanksgiving morning. 

And, to keep up with retailers with great shipping policies (cough, Amazon), you may see cheaper expedited shipping. Target already offers free shipping on everything.

Target Black Friday FAQs:

When do Target's Black Friday deals start?

Target will again give RedCard holders early access to shop more than 100 deals all day on Wednesday, November 27. Members of Target Circle (the company's free loyalty program) will reportedly get early access at 6 p.m. CT on November 27. For everyone else, Target Black Friday deals became available on Thanksgiving morning. 

Target released its Black Friday ad on November 6, so we at least know some of what will be on sale.

Will Target be open on Thanksgiving?

Yes. Target will be open for an eight-hour shift from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day like it was last year. Doors close at 1 a.m. and re-open again at 7 a.m. on Friday, November 29. 

Does Target allow in-store pick-up?

Sometimes, but you may not want to count on it. There are certain items that will be eligible for in-store pickup, but not likely everything you'll want to buy.

What is Target's return policy?

For items purchased from November 1 through December 25, the 30-day return period will start on December 26. As usual, RedCard holders have a longer returns window. 

Is Target price-matching during Black Friday?

No. Target will price-match between its online and in-store prices, but not with competitors. 

However, Target will likely keep prices as close to competitors as possible, and most major retailers tend to adjust prices throughout the day to remain competitive. You just won't have 14 days to ask for a differential refund if you come across something lower. 

Will RedCard holders still get 5% off purchases at Target on Black Friday?

Yes. They'll also get early access to over 100 Black Friday deals on November 27.

Are there any ways to save even more at Target on Black Friday?

As mentioned, it certainly doesn't hurt to be a RedCard holder. They typically get early access to the deals, and they get an extra 5% off their purchases. You'll also get free shipping with no minimum. If you make purchases with a Target Debit Card, Credit Card, or Target Mastercard (all RedCards) you also get an additional 30 days to return a purchase. 

You can also get early access for free by joining Target Circle, the retailer's free loyalty program. 

The benefits may be slim in comparison, but it also doesn't hurt to download the Target app. Retailers with apps are known to push specific coupons or exclusive discounts to those with it downloaded already or to incentivize downloads. 

And while it pays to get early access to avoid sellouts, Target is offering incentives for shopping on Black Friday, too. Shoppers who spend $50 (in-store or online) on November 29 get a 20% off coupon to redeem online or in stores December 3 through December 14. 

In terms of strategy, the best plan is to have a plan. Make a wish-list of what you'd like to buy day-of by clicking the heart on a Target product. When Black Friday deals open to the public, shop your wish-list and don't get lost browsing. And prioritize whatever is most likely to sell out first.

How to print a shipping label on PayPal

1. Log into your PayPal account on your PC or Mac and click on the "Activity" tab.

2. Locate the sale in question and click on the bubble with the words "Print shipping label."

3. If prompted (as you will be the first time you use this service) verify your address, phone number, and the type of printer you want to use, then select the packaging and shipment options you will use and enter your package weight and dimensions.

4. Click the "Calculate Shipping Cost" button, then click "Confirm and Pay" to have you PayPal account billed and get a printable label you can affix to the package you're sending.

Now drop off the package at the Post Office or a UPS store to ship the item.

As one of the best-selling pair of earbuds in the world, Apple AirPods and AirPods Pro are guaranteed to be on many holiday wish lists this year. • To search a PDF on your Mac for a specific word or phrase, you just need to activate the search function. This only takes a single click or keyboard command.
• You can search a PDF using Adobe Reader or Preview, but Preview is built into Mac computers, and it's easy to use for this purpose.

The PDF is one of the most universal formats for documents and images, on both Mac and PC. 

You can convert pictures and documents to PDFs so that they can be shared and opened looking exactly the same on any device or computer. 

Luckily, most tools also give you the ability to search a PDF for a word or phrase. This is especially helpful if the PDF you're looking at is especially wordy.

On a Mac, you can open a PDF in Preview, giving you a quick and easy default program for viewing — and searching — the PDF.

How to search a PDF on Mac

1. Find the PDF you want to search and open it.

• If you don't have Adobe Reader on your Mac, it will likely open by default with Preview. If you do have Adobe Reader, however, Preview can still be an easier program to use to search the document.
• If you have Adobe Reader and want to use Preview, right-click on the PDF. Scroll down to "Open With," and select Preview in the menu that opens.

2. Once it's open in Preview, you can search easily in the search bar at the top. You can get to the search bar by clicking it, or by pressing Command + F on your keyboard.

3. Type the word or phrase you want to search into the search box.

4. Once typed in, all the instances of the word will show up in the sidebar.

5. Click on the entry in the left sidebar for a particular appearance of a word, and you'll be taken to it in the document, or toggle through appearances of the word using the arrows next to "Found on [x] pages," which is located below the search bar.
