Or maybe a friend you were gamesharing with wants to gameshare with a different friend. For more information on how to gameshare, check out our article, "How to gameshare on your Xbox One to share your Xbox Live account and game library with friends."

Here's how to delete a profile on Xbox One.

This kitchen prep set is under $20 and has everything you need for mixing and measuring

vremi mixing bowls

  • Filling your kitchen with cooking tools and gadgets is fun, but it can get expensive.
  • These days, you can find lots of quality kitchen supplies at budget prices, though some are better than others.
  • The Vremi Mixing Bowl Set ($18.99) is cute, affordable, and has more than enough pieces for all of my mixing and measuring needs. I've yet to feel the need for a more expensive option.

Outfitting a kitchen can be an expensive pursuit. There are some essentials everyone needs, and depending on your cooking abilities and lifestyle, there are plenty of other cooking tools and kitchen gadgets you'll probably want, too. But, if you're not a pro chef or are living by a budget, you probably don't want to spend a fortune on mixing bowls, knives, and the like. And luckily, you don't have to.

It's not hard to find cheap kitchen and home goods these days, but not all are created equal. I've been thoroughly impressed with my $19 Vremi Mixing Bowl Set, which contains 13 pieces that are all you need for mixing and measuring. If you're already sold, you can head to Amazon to buy it now. If you want to learn more about the product, keep reading for a quick breakdown of all the specs.

What you get

For less than $20, you'll get four measuring cups, five measuring spoons, two mixing bowls, a colander, and a strainer. Everything in this set can be stacked onto each other. The nesting style maximizes your space for easy storage, as everything fits into each other perfectly.

The products come in a fun rainbow of colors, and everything included is made of BPA-free plastic. Plus it's all dishwasher safe for easy clean-up.

Why you'll love it

This set can be used for meal prep, serving, washing, mixing, measuring, and more. While 13 pieces may not seem like enough for all of your kitchen needs, I've found the set to be beyond sufficient.

On top of the utility, the quality is great — especially at this price point. After multiple runs in the dishwasher, nothing has changed and every piece looks good as new. But remember, this is still plastic, so if you treat it like a stainless steel mixing bowl you can probably expect some damage over time.

The bottom Line

This set of mixing bowls, measuring cups, and measuring spoons isn't particularly unique, but at just $18.99, it's a great value. It's space-saving, versatile, easy to clean, and affordable — all great things if you ask me. In my experience, and according to some 700 happy Amazon shoppers, the products hold up well over time. The cute, colorful aesthetic doesn't hurt either.

The best dress shoes for men

$
0
0
  • The fundamentals of men's style are all about classic design, and it doesn't get more classic than a dark brown Oxford dress shoe.
  • The Allen Edmonds Park Avenue is an all-time favorite and our top pick for its timeless style, quality full-grain leather, durable Goodyear welted construction, and American-made pedigree.

Every man needs at least one good pair of properly-made dress shoes in his closet. Having a few pairs is better, but chances are good that you don't have any. No, those shiny corrected-grain leather shoes you bought on Amazon or at a department store are not proper dress shoes – or not particularly good ones, anyway. It's not your fault. We've all been there.

The modern market of cheap, imported, mass-produced consumer goods has sadly swallowed up menswear, producing an ocean of poorly-fitting fused suits and plastic-looking "dress shoes," taking us far away from the days when men knew their local tailors and clothing was made to last for decades. Thankfully, it's 2019, and the internet is here to help.

This digital well-spring of knowledge has made it easier than ever for style- and quality-conscious men to re-learn what every man knew 100 years ago when it came to clothing. And while we probably won't go back to wearing suits all the time, we are clearly in the midst of a long-overdue menswear renaissance.

Men's style is all about timeless design as opposed to trendy seasonal fashions. This encompasses not just styling, but also considerations like materials, construction, and pedigree. Dress shoes are one of the most important parts of a men's outfit and are worthy of some thought before you run out and buy the cheapest ones you can find.

To make your work easier, we've already picked out five great dress shoes that cover a variety of style bases to suit any taste. All of our selections boast the material and construction considerations outlined above (full-grain leather, stitched soles, etc.), and all come from established American and European shoemakers that are well-known and highly regarded for their quality. The Insider Picks team has personally tested many of these shoes.

For options beyond Allen Edmonds, you can also check out our guides to the best-looking dress shoes under $200under $350, and under $500.

Here are the best men's dress shoes of 2019:

The best classic Oxford dress shoes

Allen Edmonds is a household name in the world of dress shoes, and the American-made Park Avenue Oxford shoes check all the boxes with full-grain calfskin leather, Goodyear welt, and timeless style that's suitable for any occasion.

The dressier look of Oxford style shoes makes them the best choice for your go-to dress shoe. The classic Allen Edmonds Park Avenue is our top pick for any man looking to upgrade his style game.

Hand-crafted in the United States, the Park Avenue Oxford is a favorite of numerous U.S. Presidents and hits all of the quality considerations you want in a quality shoe. This pair is made of full-grain calfskin leather which will break-in comfortably and can properly absorb polish for a great shine.

The shoes feature a Goodyear welted leather sole with a rubber heel for added traction that can be replaced by a shoemaker if it ever wears out, and it's built on a conservative last that's not too boxy and not too skinny.

Whether you're in the market for your first pair of good dress shoes or you're just looking for a solid shoe to wear for anything from a casual evening out to a day at the office, the Allen Edmonds Park Avenue Oxford is the one for you.

These are a bit pricey at $395 retail, but they frequently go on sale, with the price often coming down to a much more reasonable $250 or so. Considering that these shoes can last for decades with proper care, that's an investment any man should be willing to make.

Pros: Crafted in the United States, made of full-grain calfskin leather that polishes and ages well, durable Goodyear welt construction that can be resoled, and a classic style that can be worn almost anywhere

Cons: It's a bit pricey at $395 but can often be had on sale for less, and the conservative last is not as slim as some might prefer

The best derby dress shoes

The derby remains a hugely popular dress shoe and the Charles Tyrwhitt's two-eyelet derby is a high-quality, English-made shoe that will work with any outfit.

If you already have a good pair of Oxfords, or if you've just settled on the derby for its simple style, then you'll likely want something that's equal parts comfortable and versatile. In this case, you should still stick with brown, although if you want to keep it less formal (after all, the derby is a fairly casual dress shoe), lighter shades would also work well here.

You can take your pick from any of the top men's shoemakers, but our pick for the derby is the 2-eyelet derby from Charles Tyrwhitt, a Jermyn Street brand most prominently known for its affordable yet quality dress shirts.

The two-eyelet derby is crafted in England using traditional shoemaking methods. Like our other favorites, it's constructed of full-grain calfskin and features a Goodyear welted leather sole for years and years of comfortable wear with proper care.

Best of all is the shoe's subtle styling. A plain toe and brogue-less heel give this dress shoe a sophisticated look that puts it far ahead of other Derbies, which all too often are either boring or completely overdone with stitching. The open lacing of the derby gives the wearer more wiggle room — those of you with wider feet, take note — although this does result in a slightly boxier profile that is less sleek than the Oxford.

But in America, and anywhere else where business-casual is the norm, the Charles Tyrwhitt two-eyelet derby is a great choice for a versatile leather shoe that fits in almost anywhere.

Pros: Supple full-grain calfskin with an attractive finish; durable Goodyear welted construction; hand-made in England; brogue detailing lends a subtle yet sophisticated style

Cons: Open lacing makes these notably more casual than Oxfords

The best dress boots

With traditional European craftsmanship and distinct British flair, the Ellis Chelsea boots from Jack Erwin are a modern classic.

Today, dress boots are most commonly made by shoemakers in the UK and Europe, which is not surprising given the fact that Chelsea boots were popularized in Britain in the '60sJack Erwin is one of our favorite shoemakers around today, and the stylish Ellis Chelsea boot easily earns a place among our top picks owing to its craftsmanship, great aesthetics, all-day comfort, and fantastic value.

The Ellis is also made in Spain using full-grain calfskin, as are all shoes in the Erwin lineup. Instead of a Goodyear welted leather sole, the Ellis features Blake construction with an all-rubber outsole. These are built on a slim last, and this lean toe box and clean silhouette is what sets them apart from bulkier, chunkier boots that are generally not suitable as dress shoes.

The Jack Erwin Ellis Chelsea boot is definitely a modern take on the dress shoe, and although its mid-century British flair is not for everybody, this European-crafted Chelsea boot is the top choice for any man who wants a dressy shoe with a distinct and slightly less traditional look.

Pros: Quality European craftsmanship, a sleek style that is dressy yet modern, a great value at $220, and the lace-free design is easy to slip on and very comfortable for all-day wear

Cons: The distinctly mid-century British style and narrow toe box will not suit everyone

The best monk strap dress shoes

The monk strap is definitely an acquired taste, but the Wolf & Shepherd Gambits are well-made and packed with sneaker-like comfort that's perfect for the adventurous wearer.

The strap-and-buckle closure makes monk straps more casual in contrast to Oxfords, but it's also a fine way to spruce up an otherwise conservative ensemble. A pair built with a sleek leather upper and a slim leather sole will have you good to go whether you want to rock them with jeans and a sportcoat or a suit and tie for the office.

Our favorite pick for those looking for a great pair of monks is the Gambit from Wolf & Shepherd, a modern footwear brand founded by a former Adidas designer.

Monk strap shoes typically come in one of two styles, either single or double, so named according to the number of straps used for closure. The Wolf & Shepherd Gambit is a double monk, which is our preferred monk strap style due to the smaller (and therefore less garish) buckles and the larger strap that flows nicely with the Derby-style quartered construction.

The monk strap is a unique choice that certainly isn't for everybody, but if you're adventurous (or just want to spice up your conservative suits), the Gambi is the perfect alternative to the old-school Oxford and is sure to garner compliments. These shoes are super comfortable, stylish, and built to last in Italy

Styling aside, the Wolf & Shepherd Gambit is special because of the comfort technology. On the outside, Wolf & Shepherd's designs look like standard premium men's dress shoes, but on the inside, you'll find soft sheepskin linings, plush memory foam insoles, a carbon fiber shank for stability and weight reduction, an HDeva heel, and laser-cut rubber outsoles. The result is a shoe that feels as comfortable as a sneaker.

Pros: Built on a slim last for an attractive and foot-flattering shape, premium leather uppers, sneaker-like comfort, sophisticated double-strap styling, and it's crafted from genuine full-grain calfskin

Cons: The monk strap style is highly subject to taste

The best wingtip dress shoes

Whether you want to pair them with dark denim or a dapper suit, the timeless details of the Grenson Dylan wingtips make them our top pick.

While less formal than the understated Oxford, a pair of wingtips can be easily dressed up with the right suit and can be just as easily dressed down with a pair of dark jeans.

For this style, we recommend a wingtip with closed lacing as this will make it more versatile and appropriate for most workplaces — an open-laced wingtip, especially in a lighter color, will be too casual for many business environments. Closed lacing also creates a sleeker profile which is important for avoiding a shoe that ends up looking too busy and boxy when combined with its wingtip brogueing.

Having taken all of this into consideration, our top pick for a solid pair of wingtips is the Dylan from Grenson, another historic British shoemaker with a 150-year-old pedigree that rivals (and arguably surpasses) that of Loake.

Crafted in England, the Grenson Dylan features closed lacing and an attractive light brown pebble grain, making it the perfect "summer shoe" for wear with casual outfits and lighter suits. Full-grain leather and Goodyear welted construction ensure years of comfortable wear with proper maintenance as well. The quality of Grenson's manufacturing process is readily apparent in its fantastic attention to detail, which is simply unrivaled at this price point.

Admittedly, the wingtip is not for every man — nor is it the best choice for a first pair of dress shoes — but this classic has been around for more than a century and it's thankfully not going away any time soon, so grab a pair and make grandpa proud.

Note that British shoe sizes are generally marked one full size down from U.S. sizes, so be sure to check Grenson's sizing guide to find your fit.

Pros: Quality English craftsmanship with fantastic attention to detail, calfskin leather vamp with a Goodyear welted leather sole, great wingtip styling that isn't too garish or busy, and the attractive light brown pebble grain works beautifully with casual outfights and lighter-colored summer suits

Cons: The distinct brogued wingtip styling is too casual for formal wear and is not for everyone

How to find a high-quality pair of dress shoes

Quality full-grain leather

A good dress shoe should be made of full-grain leather. Full-grain leather (in contrast to top- or corrected-grain) is comprised of the whole grain of the cowhide. This means that it will be thick and durable, will age wonderfully, and will absorb polish properly. Note that "genuine leather" is meaningless jargon — all cheap low-quality leather still counts as "genuine." Look for "full-grain" or give it a pass.

Goodyear welt or Blake construction

Most shoes today are made by gluing the sole onto the foot box. Such soles are almost certain to eventually come apart and cannot be repaired. Instead, go for a dress shoe with Goodyear welt construction (where the sole is stitched to a leather welt which is then stitched to the upper) or Blake construction (where the sole is stitched directly to the upper). These methods create a shoe that is flexible, breathable, and can be resoled by a shoemaker. Note that the lack of a welt on Blake-stitched soles results in a lighter, slimmer shoe, but one that is somewhat less long-lasting and trickier to resole than a Goodyear welt.

Styles vary

There are a number of different dress shoe styles and the particulars of each will be covered below. The general rule is to keep it simple, slim, and conservative. For your first pair, stick with the classic Oxford. Dress shoes should feature a relatively narrow last (referring to the molds used to shape the shoes) and follow the lines of your foot without being too bulky, boxy, or squared.

Color is key

The standard metric regarding leather color is that darker is dressier and lighter is more casual. This may lead you to go with black, but this guide recommends against that. Black is easily the least versatile basic shoe color — dark brown is the best choice for your first pair. Brown goes with virtually any suit color (save for black), can be easily dressed up or down, and is appropriate for almost any occasion. That said, you'll probably want one pair of black shoes in your rotation, and Oxfords are a solid choice for these due to their formal styling.

What's the difference? Oxford, derby, Chelsea boot, monk strap, and wingtip styles explained

Oxford shoes

The venerable Oxford, also known as a "Balmoral," sets the design standard for men's dress shoes. Its sleek lines and subtle styling look great with almost any casual or formal outfit. It's the most versatile dress shoe a man can own, so if you're in the market for your first good pair, then dark brown Oxfords are exactly what you need. Take special care not to confuse these with Derby or Blucher dress shoes which are often falsely advertised as "Oxfords" (especially in America where this distinction is less often made).

The defining characteristic of an Oxford is what is referred to as "closed lacing." With closed lacing, the lace tabs are sewn underneath the vamp (the upper part) of the shoe rather than on top of it as is the case with open lacing. Closed lacing results in a clean silhouette and a slimmer shape, making it more formal, whereas open lacing is decidedly more casual.

Derby shoes

If the Oxford is the father of the dress shoe family, then the derby is the more laid back — although far more popular — uncle. What sets them apart is all in the lacing: Whereas the Oxford has the lace tabs sewn under the vamp (i.e. closed lacing), the derby shoe features three-piece construction with two-quarters of the shoe, including the lace tabs, sewn on top of the vamp. This results in a more casual style known as open lacing.

This can get confusing as the distinction between the Oxford and the derby is blurred by some shoemakers, especially in the United States. Many shoes with open lacing are sold as "Oxfords," and this is likely due to the popularity of the derby style as well as more lax dress standards in America (wear a pair of brown shoes — especially Derbies — in London's business district during working hours and you might get some disapproving looks).

Chelsea boots

Often associated with European style and the British "Mod" subculture, dress boots might seem a bit foppish to many men today. Contrary to this perception, however, is the fact that the dress boot is a very traditional choice that predates the modern dress shoe. In centuries past, boots were, in fact, the norm, slowly giving way to dress shoes worn with ankle spats, which themselves gave way to the exposed-ankle footwear we wear today.

The only fundamental difference between a boot and a shoe is that a boot has a longer shank that extends up past the ankle, and many dress boots are simply Oxfords or Derbies with a taller shank. Certain styles, on the other hand, are almost entirely unique to dress boots. The two most common of these are the Chelsea and the Jodhpur, neither of which use laces. Chelsea boots feature elastic on the sides to slip onto the foot. Jodhpur boots are based on traditional riding boots and feature a strap-and-buckle closure.

Little-known trivia: White Chelseas were also featured in "Star Wars" as the footwear of Imperial Stormtroopers.

Monk strap shoes

The modern monk strap is a relative newcomer to the men's style scene, and admittedly, reactions have been mixed: Men either seem to love these laceless shoes or think they are a youthful fad. You'll have to decide for yourself if monk straps are for you, but there's no denying their growing popularity which doesn't seem to be waning any time soon. Somewhat ironically, the monk strap — while considered a younger style relative to classics like the Oxford — actually has its roots in medieval Europe, where shoes with buckles were quite common.

The defining feature of the monk strap is right there in its name. This shoe's design is similar to that of the Jodhpur boot in that it forgoes laces in favor of a strap-and-buckle closure, which offers a unique modern look that is simple and sophisticated. They're definitely the most fashion-forward of the picks on our guide, but monk straps enjoy a dedicated following for a reason — this stand-out style really does look great. Those medieval monks must have had pretty good taste.

Wingtip shoes

When someone says "wingtip shoe," you might get a Great Gatsby-style vision of the Roaring '20s complete with flappers, gangsters, and men clad in double-breasted peak lapel suits. That would be a mistake, however: Wingtips are enjoying another go in the spotlight today, undergoing a revival in popularity among men who are, largely thanks to the web, re-discovering the classic styles of days gone by.

Your grandpa likely owned a pair of wingtips and it's time to give this style another go-around. The name "wingtip" refers not so much to the actual style of the shoe, but rather to its styling; a wingtip can be an Oxford, a monk strap, a dress boot, or another type of shoe. A wingtip is simply any shoe that features a punched pattern, known as brogueing, that forms a wing-like shape one the front of the toe box.

Galaxy S10 side by side

  • You can set up parental controls on a Samsung Galaxy S10 with a third-party app from the Google Play Store.
  • There are no parental control features built into a Samsung Galaxy S10— unlike an iPhone and Apple devices — but it's easy to set these up on any Android phone with the Google Family Link app.
  • The Google Family Link app lets you impose limits on screen time, remotely control the phone, and even check your child's GPS location.
  • To set up Family Link, you need to install the Family Link for children & teens app on your kid's phone and Family Link for parents on your own phone.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy S10 don't come with parental controls built in — unlike on an iPhone and other Apple devices

But you can implement parental controls with third-party apps in the Google Play store.

In fact, there are a lot of apps that offer parental control features. To see them, start the Google Play app and search for "parental controls."

Though you have a lot of options, we recommend an app from Google called Google Family Link

Family Link lets you view your kids' online activities, manage the apps that they are allowed to use, limit screen time, and lock their device remotely from another phone. It even lets you see where they are using GPS.

Here's how to set it up on a Galaxy S10

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

How to set up parental controls on a Samsung Galaxy S10

1. On the phone your child will be using, install Google Family Link for children & teens from the Google Play Store.

2. Start the Family Link for children & teens app.

3. Tap "This device."

Parental 1

4. Tap the Google account you want to supervise. If you have more than one account set up on the phone, the others will be removed, so that your child can't simply log in with a different account. You should now see a screen requesting a code from the Family Link for parents app.

5. On the phone you plan to supervise your child from, install the Google Family Link for parents app.

6. On your phone, start the Google Family Link app and scroll through the introduction until the app displays a code.

7. Enter that code into the other phone.

Parental 2

8. From here, setup is very straightforward. Follow the instructions to complete the setup of the child account, and choose which parental controls you want to implement on the account.

How to troubleshoot your Samsung Galaxy S10 if it's not receiving text messages

Unfortunately, there are several potential causes to why your phone may not be receiving text messages, so you should try each of the possibilities in this article to see which one resolves your issue.

Check your roaming settings

If you're outside your normal network, especially when traveling internationally, you may need to contact your cellular provider and enable international services. You should also ensure that roaming settings are turned on.

1. Start the Settings app on your Samsung Galaxy S10.

2. Tap "Connections" and then tap "Mobile Networks."

3. If it's not already on, turn on "Data Roaming" by swiping the button to the right.

Make sure you're not blocking the sender

You might be missing text messages because you've blocked specific callers, so their messages are unable to get through. You can check to see who you've blocked and unblock them as needed.

1. Start the Phone app.

2. Tap the three dots at the top right of the screen and then tap "Settings."

3. Tap "Block numbers."

4. If you want to receive messages from unknown callers, make sure "Block unknown callers" is turned off by swiping the button to the left.

5. You should see a list of blocked phone numbers. To unblock a number, tap the minus sign for each one on the right side of the screen.

Reset your phone

If you continue to have trouble receiving text messages, your phone might simply be misbehaving, which can often be resolved by restarting. You can turn your phone off and back on again, or perform a soft reset.

Clear the Messages app's cache

If none of the previous steps resolved your problem, it might be because there is some corrupted data in your Messages app's cache. You can clear the cache easily.

1. Start the Settings app.

2. Tap "Apps" and then tap "Messages."

3. On the Messages app's details page, tap "Storage."

4. Tap "Clear cache."

5. After it completes, if that has not resolved the issue, you can also tap "Clear data."

Contact support

If none of these troubleshooting steps solved your problem, your phone might have a more serious issue. You may want to contact your cellular provider for technical support.

'Why does my Samsung Galaxy S10 get hot?': 5 ways to troubleshoot your Galaxy S10 if it's overheating

Galaxy S10 lineup

It's not unusual for a phone like the Samsung Galaxy S10 to occasionally get warm to the touch. It has a fast processor and graphics chip, as well as memory and a battery — and unlike traditional computers, has no way to actively cool itself, such as with a fan.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

Samsung Galaxy S10 (From $899.99 at Best Buy)

SEE ALSO: I tested the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus for 2 months, and it made me question everything about my 'iPhone or nothing' mentality

How to troubleshoot your Samsung Galaxy S10 if it's overheating

If your phone gets warm when you play a graphics-intensive game or watch a video for an extended period of time, and cools down again afterwards, there's probably no cause for concern.

But if it seems to get uncomfortably warm in normal use, there may be a problem. Here are some tips for solving overheating problems and keeping your phone as cool as possible.

Remove the phone from its case

Phone cases can trap heat, and in some cases — especially if thick and bulky — are more likely to make your phone unnaturally warm. If you find that your phone is getting hot, especially when it's charging, try removing it from the case and see if that solves the problem.

Reset the phone

Whenever you're troubleshooting a problem with your phone, you'll invariably encounter advice to restart it. Turning your phone off and back on again can flush out a misbehaving app or corrupted data. You can turn simply turn off your phone and then restart it, or perform a soft reset.

Use Safe Mode to see if a buggy app is responsible

If you've installed a buggy app, it might force your phone's processor to over-extend itself, which can both make it run hot and run down the battery faster than usual.

One way to see if this is the culprit is to boot your phone into so-called "Safe Mode," which prevents third-party downloaded apps from running.

If your phone doesn't overheat in Safe Mode but does ordinarily, you can try uninstalling recently downloaded apps until you find the one causing problems.

Here is how to boot into Safe Mode:

1. Hold the Power button on the side of the phone until the Power Off button appear.

2. Tap and hold "Power Off" for a second or two until the Safe Mode button appears.

3. Tap "Safe mode" and let the phone restart.

4. Use the phone in Safe mode to assess if it's overheating. When you restart the phone, let it boot in normal mode.

Clear the phone's cache partition

If your phone still gets uncomfortably warm in normal use, it's possible the phone's cache partition has corrupted data.

1. Turn off your phone by pressing the Power button on the side and tapping "Power off," then tap "power off" a second time.

2. Press and hold the Volume Up and the Bixby keys, then press and hold the Power button. Hold all three buttons until you see the Android logo.

3. After the menu appears, use the Volume Down button to choose "Wipe cache partition" and then press the Power button to select it.

4. Use the Volume Down button to choose "Yes" and then select it with the Power button.

5. When the cache wipe is completed, press the Power button to select "Reboot system now."

Contact support

If your phone still seems to run much hotter than normal, you may want to contact Samsung technical support for help.

Rocco & Roxie's Professional Strength Stain & Odor Eliminator is effective on all surfaces and powerful enough to tackle even the toughest stains and odors.

When you are house-training your puppy, you should expect a few accidents to occur along the way because your puppy can only hold his bladder for about one hour per month of age. Though pet stains are an expected part of house-training, they can be stubborn and difficult to remove.

Plus, your puppy may be tempted to repeat the act if the carpet retains some of his scent. To remove both pet stains and odors, you need Rocco & Roxie's Professional Strength Stain & Odor Eliminator.

The spray is made with a powerful formula that cuts through even the toughest stains and odors with strong enzymatic action. It works on all surfaces including carpet, hardwood, and upholstery. This stain remover is professional-strength, but it is also gentle and safe enough for use around children and pets. It may be more costly than other options, but it is well worth the price.

Petsho highlights the spray's ability to remove not only the stain itself but also its odor to discourage pets from using the same area again. Dogs Recommend also speaks highly of Rocco & Roxie's spray, noting that it lives up to its name by quickly and effectively removing stains and odors.

Pros: Unique enzymatic action, powerful against all stains and odors, can be used on any surface, discourages puppy from reusing the same area, safe for pets and children

Cons: More expensive than many options, cleaner may have an unpleasant or strong odor

The best indoor puppy potty

The Fresh Patch Disposable Dog Potty is made with hydroponically grown grass and a 100% recyclable cardboard tray to attract your puppy and absorb pee quickly.

If you choose to train your puppy to do his business indoors, you should consider buying a puppy potty. While there are different models to choose from, the most effective puppy potties are designed to look like patches of grass. This design can help your puppy make the transition to going outdoors, if that is your goal, or it can just be a more attractive option than a puppy pee pad. Our top pick for the best indoor puppy potty is the Fresh Patch Disposable Dog Potty.

The Fresh Patch Disposable Dog Potty consists of a lush bed of hydroponically grown grass in a recyclable cardboard tray. The fresh grass naturally attracts your puppy to the bed and neutralizes odors while the complex root system absorbs liquid on contact. An excellent alternative to outdoor training or pee pads, this dog potty lasts for several weeks, depending on the dog, and it is completely disposable.

Top Dog Tips comments on the quality of the live grass and its absorbency. Though each pad is only recommended for dogs up to 25 pounds, you could join a few pads up together for larger dogs. Fido Savvy also recommends this disposable potty, confirming that it is all natural and eco-friendly.

Pros: Made with hydroponically grown grass, comes in a disposable cardboard tray, made with 100% recyclable materials, complex root system absorbs liquid quickly, real grass naturally contains odor and attracts puppy, one tray can last for several weeks

Cons: Doesn't have a leak-proof tray or lining for 100% leak protection, only recommended for dogs up to 25 pounds, if grass is not fresh it may not work well

Fashion prodigy Zac Posen shuttered his fashion label on Friday. Here's how he went from enrolling in a top design school at 16 to becoming a household name with celeb clients like Oprah and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Zac Posen

On Friday, designer Zac Posen announced the immediate closing of his eponymous fashion label, which launched in 2001.

In a press statement, the former "Project Runway" judge said he was "deeply saddened that the journey of nearly 20 years has come to an end" but that he was "grateful to the team who lent their incomparable talent and commitment along the way."

"The management team … worked extremely hard to navigate the increasingly challenging fashion and retail landscape," he said in the statement. "We are disappointed that these efforts have not been successful."

Over the years, Posen became known for his glamourous ball gowns and curve-hugging designs.

Some of his most famous looks include the pink satin dress he designed for Rihanna at the singer's 2014 Diamond Ball, the light-up Cinderella gown he created for Claire Danes at the 2016 Met Gala, and the dress Princess Eugenie of York wore to her wedding reception. But those are far from the only iconic moments the designer has had.

A spokesperson for Zac Posen didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

Keep reading to take a look back at Posen's rise to fame and his nearly two decades-long career in the fashion industry.

Zac Posen was born and raised in New York City.

He was raised in SoHo and has previously said that his love of fashion began when he used to steal the yarmulkes at his grandparents' synagogue to make dresses for dolls. At 16, he enrolled in Parsons School of Design's precollege program, and he was given the opportunity to intern with fashion designer Nicole Miller.

He went on to study womenswear at London's Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design at the University of Arts London.

In 2000, he designed a gown made entirely from thin leather strips that was later put on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum — named after the UK's Queen Victoria and Prince Albert — in their "Curvaceous" exhibit.

In 2001, after graduating, Posen returned to New York City and immediately began attracting media attention for his talent at such a young age. He had his first independent runway show, for a Fall 2002 ready-to-wear collection, in February 2002, Vogue reports.

Posen set up shop in his parents' living room and quickly started designing clothes. His parents gave him an allowance of $15 a day. This allowed Posen, then only 21 and fresh out of fashion school, to design nearly three collections' worth of clothing only a few months after graduating.

His style was noted for its Old Hollywood glamour, and he knew many soon-to-be-famous people from his childhood who were more than willing to be photographed in his gowns, boosting his media presence around the world.

In September 2002, after Posen's Spring 2003 Collection was presented at New York Fashion Week, Time magazine reported that industry experts were referring to him as the "Next Big Thing in Frocks."

He was courted by heavy-hitters in the business, such as LVMH's president Sidney Toledano.

"All fashion indices point to [Posen] as the Next Big Thing in Frocks," Time magazine noted in 2002. "Magazines have written worshipfully about him. Manolo Blahnik collaborates with him on shoes. Posen's shows feature A-list models like Naomi Campbell, whom he pays in clothes. And during last week's Fashion Week, when all the most influential sheiks of chic were in Manhattan, Bloomingdale's devoted a row of windows to his work."

That same year, actress Natalie Portman wore a midi-dress from Posen's first collection to the "Star Wars" premiere. This was the moment credited with turning Posen into a star designer.

Posen's quick rise to the top and his youth earned him the title of a "wunderkind."

In 2003, Vogue wrote that Posen was just "22 years old and Designer of the Year five minutes out of fashion college."

In 2004, rapper Sean Combs held a 50% ownership stake in Posen's namesake brand. By that time, the designer was regularly dressing celebrities like Naomi Campbell and Katie Holmes.

"I see Zac as someone who shares the same drive and vision that I have," Combs said in 2004, according to Vogue UK. "I also saw an opportunity for Sean John [Combs' fashion label] to make an impact with Zac Posen by giving him the tools and resources that he needed for his business to grow and mature. He has been able to establish a real profile as an American contemporary and evening designer. He dresses amazing women, the stores love him and clearly he is a force to be contended with in the designer ready-to-wear scene."

He quickly became a red carpet favorite, with the mermaid gown he created for Gwyneth Paltrow for the 2007 Academy Awards noted as one of Posen's most memorable looks ever.

Vogue's Nicole Phelps wrote that though Posen's career was not without its ups and downs, he was able to fare better than his industry peers because "he was early to discover and capitalize on fashion's growing importance in the entertainment sphere."

In 2008, Posen released a capsule collection with Target that launched in Australia. In 2010, Posen was selected by the retailer to create a GO International collection — "an innovative program designed to provide affordable fashion created by world-renowned designers."

In a press statement released by Target in 2010, the retailer's senior vice president, Trish Adams, said that "Zac Posen brings larger-than-life style to his Target collection, creating a covetable line with a modern edge. We are excited to share his extraordinary talent with our guests, providing accessible off-the-runway fashion at great prices."

In 2012, Posen was named a judge on Project Runway, where he remained for six seasons. He departed after the 2017 season, at the same time Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn left.

As of 2013, Posen was living in Soho with his partner, fashion editor Christopher Niquet.

In a 2013 interview with the New York Times, Posen said he and Niquet lived in SoHo, with their three dogs: a poodle named Tina Turner, two miniature dachshunds named Betty Blue and Candy Darling.

"Having grown up in Soho, the nostalgic search for the late '80s-'90s look — which doesn't exist on the youth in Soho anymore — is something that I grew up with, so it's not intriguing to me," he said in the interview. "I find the old women uptown very inspiring.

Posen also launched an affordable bridal collection with David's Bridal called "Truly Zac Posen."

The first collection had ivory dresses ranging from $850 to $1,350, and social dresses ranging from $195 to $225.

"I have such a wide fan base and audience base and [a] diverse base," Posen told USA Today in 2013, ahead of the line's 2014 official launch. "I wanted to find a place where I could actually address them and dress them."

He designed two gowns for Rihanna to wear at her inaugural Diamond Ball in 2014, one of which was a gorgeous pink, curve-fitting satin gown.

The look is considered to also be one of his most famous, The Guardian reports. At the time, InStyle wrote that the gown might be "Rihanna's most spectacular look — ever."

In 2015, Posen and Naomi Campbell introduced that year's upcoming fall collection.

Campbell wore a stunning glitter maroon ball gown, which has also become one of his most memorable looks. That year, he was also named Designer of the Year by Women's Wear Daily and Variety.

In 2016, Posen created a runway collection inspired by African Princess Elizabeth of Toro (now part of Uganda), who, in the 1960s, became the first East African to be admitted to England's Bar Association — and later that decade, the first black woman to appear in a Vogue magazine spread.

For the showing of his Fall 2016 collection, Posen chose mostly black models to present the collection at New York Fashion Week.

"Since the inspiration was Elizabeth of Toro, it made sense to have a casting reflecting this," Posen he said of the collection's debut. "Their presence and the diversity of the casting complemented the collection and made it more striking. Within this global environment — diversity is very important and it is something that has always been equally important to me as well as a key component of my collections, whether it is shapes, sizes, or skin color."

Posen made headlines once again with his light-up Cinderella-inspired gown for Claire Danes at the 2016 Met Gala. The dress is considered not just one of his most notable designs, but also one of his best creations.

The following year, he released a cookbook called "Cooking with Zac: Recipes From Rustic to Refined," which featured a collection of his favorite recipes.

In 2017, he released the Netflix documentary "House of Z," which chronicled the highs and lows of his career.

"Fashion has a dark side," Posen said in the documentary. "Not all runways and lipstick and fishtail gowns."

The documentary also touched upon Posen's quick rise to the top and how failure had humbled him over the years.

He designed Delta Air Lines' new employee uniform that same year. It was the first time the company's "above-wing" and "below-the-wing" uniforms had been updated since 2006 and 2000 respectively.

("Above-wing" employees refer to those such as pilots and flight attendants, while "below-the-wing" refers to those such as baggage handlers and maintenance crew.)

In order to create the collection, Posen told Travel + Leisure that he shadowed multiple Delta employees so he could create an outfit which would accommodate all their needs. He also created a special color for the uniform: Passport Plum, which is a mixture of Delta's former dark blue and red colors.

"This project and collaboration was something that evolved over three years and I really think it was handled in an incredible way for a corporation," Posen told Travel + Leisure in 2018. "I believe deeply in the power of glamour and the power of an experience. And the excitement of flying and definitely the nostalgia of the golden age. But it's really about taking that essence and creating a new future."

In 2019, Posen partnered with GE to create 3D print-inspired dresses for the Met Gala.

He also designed two gowns for model Winnie Harlow at the Harper's BAZAAR Icons Party and a bright pink ball gown for Sarah Jessica Parker to wear at the New York City Ballet Fall Fashion Gala.

He has been a longtime favorite of many noteworthy celebrities, from Sarah Jessica Parker to Oprah Winfrey — and his namesake label is sure to be missed by them.

Today, he has a reported net worth of $30 million.

On November 1, Posen announced he was closing his iconic namesake label.

He told Women's Wear Daily that the experience was "horrible, pretty intense, and surreal." He also shared that the brand had been in the middle of a sale process, and they'd tried for months to "prevent this from happening" before he and his board unfortunately ran out of time.

The company ceased operations immediately, and it was announced that the Spring 2020 collection Posen had shown earlier in the year would not be shipped. Speaking to WWD, he said that this was a "tough time in retail and in the industry."

"My partners and I tried everything possible within our means to find solutions to keep it going," he told the outlet. "[But] the clock ran out."

But Posen was sure to let all of his fans know that his label's abrupt shutdown was not the end for him. If anything, this was the start of a new beginning.

"Hopefully, I'll have a long career ahead," he told WWD. "I need to take a little time to think about my options ... I've been focused on my brand for a long time. Now, this is a new stage. I will always have me. I will always have my creativity."

Hotel review: Hotel 50 Bowery brings approachable luxury to New York City's bustling Chinatown

Hotel 50 Bowery 4x3

  • Hotel 50 Bowery brings approachable luxury to New York City's bustling Chinatown neighborhood and honors the locale's rich history in the process.
  • Chinatown is a dynamic microcosm of New York City's history and perfect for travelers and staycationers seeking gastronomy at their fingertips.
  • Starting at $250 per night, the Joie de Vivre hotel from Hyatt offers thoughtfully-appointed rooms. I loved my City View King which delivered on the incredible sights promised by the name.

On my first trip to New York City before moving here, my mom suggested a celebratory drink at the top of the Marriott Marquis in Times Square.

"Isn't it insanely expensive up there?" I asked. She replied, "You pay for the experience, honey."

A cocktail at a noteworthy bar comes with a heftier price tag than a casual dive, but one could argue you're not only getting a better drink but the improved scenery that tends to come with it.

The same can be said for hotels. If you're visiting Manhattan for the first time, it's likely you won't be spending too much time in your room. Though, there's nothing quite like retreating somewhere comfortable and beautiful after a long day of exploring.

Priced starting at $250 per night, Hotel 50 Bowery is that small but meaningful splurge. In the heart of Chinatown, the strikingly appointed 229-room hotel offers a quiet and comfortable escape from the madness of Manhattan. It also provides some of the best views of the city from both its rooftop bar, The Crown, and a generous handful of rooms, too.

The vibe is young and design-minded, so if you're a traveler who appreciates modern and industrial-inspired decor (and sharing it on social), you'll be very happy.

Though it's so much more than just photogenic. Located within a historic area, the hotel helps to provide guests with a better understanding of the neighborhood it inhabits, leaving you not only well-rested but culturally satiated, too.

Here's why I think it's worth the price, including a pesky destination fee.

Keep reading to see why I was so impressed by Hotel 50 Bowery.

SEE ALSO: Hotel review: The consistently hip Ace Hotel in NoMad is a go-to base for creative types

SEE ALSO: Hotel review: We stayed at the Moxy Chelsea and were impressed by its central location, co-working spaces, and great views

SEE ALSO: Hotel review: We loved the boutique Sister City in the Lower East Side, an affordable spin-off of the Ace Hotel with self-serve features

Upon entering 50 Bowery, I was immediately taken with a space that sought to pay homage to its surroundings. The lobby was stark yet warm, with soaring ceilings adorned by salvaged light fixtures as a nod to the vibrant light district that has been a part of the Bowery for years.

A large concrete pillar was flanked by a leather bench, and resin-coated tree trunk ottomans served as a centerpiece. A large exposed brick wall was built entirely from material salvaged from the neighborhood.

On the second floor, I discovered a permanent gallery collection, created in collaboration with the nearby Museum of Chinese in America. Black and white photographs and apothecary bottles from a time capsule found at the building site were displayed neatly alongside historical tidbits in order to give context to the neighborhood's rich history.

After checking in, which was seamless, I walked past hallway doors painted deep crimson for good luck per Chinese custom, while soft, dim lighting inspired by dusk in China made for a calming, inviting stroll to my room. I appreciated this not only for the cultural element but for eliminating the typical aggressive lighting commonly found in hotel hallways.

A quirk: Hotel 50 Bowery has no 13th or 14th floor, as the former is, of course, considered bad luck in many countries across the globe, and the latter, a Chinese superstition.

My room was a City View King. It was perfectly sized for a solo traveler or a couple and was intimate, which is a nice way of saying small. However smart architecture and thoughtful decor prevented it from feeling cramped.

Art is an important component of 50 Bowery's ethos, and as such, my room felt somewhat like a small industrial-chic gallery. Beneath raw concrete ceilings, the walls were dressed in handmade abstract blue and white textured paper and adorned with pieces by local artists, including works from Simone Shubuck (abstract), André Saraiva (graffiti), Riley Payne (pencil), and Lowell Boyers (contemporary).

I was told that the hotel group manufactures their own mattresses, and I found mine to be extremely comfortable and slept as well as I could have hoped in a bed that wasn't my own.

My room typically books for $250 nightly, and I did feel it was worth the splurge, especially with the great views. Though, I'd advise being cognizant about other added costs, as they might alter that outlook. Drinks at the rooftop bar The Crown were pricey (I'll touch more on that in a bit), and the daily destination fee added up, which was a cost associated with services that felt pretty standard.

If you're a World of Hyatt member, you might be able to snag a lower rate or other perks, so consider signing up.

My bathroom was decked in white subway tile and warm lighting, with high-end toiletries by Jonathan Adler. The bathrobes, made by TY Presidential Collection, were some of the best I've experienced in any hotel, trading the standard rough and worn terry cloth for soft microfiber, emblazoned with a red dragon on the back.

Compare room types and prices for Hotel 50 Bowery on Booking.com

50 Bowery's 21st-floor rooftop bar, The Crown, housed some of the best views of Manhattan through floor-to-ceiling windows. Which is what you're paying for, harking back to my mom's point about paying for the experience. Cocktails start at $18 each before tax and tip.

A downside to 50 Bowery, in my experience, was the absence of a full-service restaurant. A ground floor space adjacent to the lobby formerly housed one, but has not been replaced with another spot. Luckily, though, Chinatown is home to plenty of standout restaurants (keep reading for those recommendations ).

The hotel is ADA-friendly and also offers the usual suspects, such as valet service, concierge, Wi-Fi, a 24-hour fitness center, minibar, working and meeting spaces, and unlimited phone calls.

When staying in Chinatown it's important to soak in all of the rich history and culture while spending your money locally.

Museum of Chinese in America is an absolute highlight. For the gastronomically-inclined, visit iconic dim-sum spots Jing Fong and Nom Wah Tea Parlor. For great cocktails, check out Chinese Tuxedo and Apothéke (both steps from Nom Wah), and if you're looking for a great scoop, be sure to stop by The Original Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, a family-owned "unofficial landmark" since 1978.

With a four-and-a-half star rating on Trip Advisor, and a 9.0 on Booking.com, the majority of reviews are positive, lauding comfortable beds, friendly staff, the rooftop bar, and of course, the views.

On the negative side, some guests complained of loud music at night coming from the rooftop bar, so, if you're a light sleeper and don't want to take a chance, make sure to request a room a few floors below the 20th (The Crown is on the 21st floor).

Read reviews, compare prices, and book Hotel 50 Bowery on Trip Advisor

Who stays here: Business travelers and smart tourists (read: those who like to go off the proverbial beaten path that is Midtown), as well as pet owners. Hotel 50 Bowery is a pet-friendly hotel (there is no extra charge for bringing your furry companion either ).

We like: The impeccable decor that spares no detail. I also deeply appreciated the MOCA gallery space. It's a necessary and important gesture to shed light on Chinatown's story versus erasing it, which is what often happens with gentrification.

We love (don't miss this feature!): Breakfast at the hotel. At $18, it's a reasonable price for a full American buffet in the gallery space, and part of the hotel's larger F&B program managed by Gerber Group. Gerber is the hospitality brand behind local greats like The Campbell, The Sunken Lounge at JFK's TWA Hotel, Taco Electrico, and more.

We think you should know: The hotel charges a nightly destination fee of $19.95 plus tax per reservation. This covers access to the hotel's concierge service, high-speed Wi-Fi, a 24-hour fitness area, phone calls (both local and long-distance), and coffee at The Crown each morning. Destination fees are not standard in New York City hotels, so this is something to consider when choosing where to stay.

We'd do this differently next time: I'd spring for a larger room. While the City View King wasn't cramped, I could have certainly benefited from a bit more space, such as one of the three suite types (Kindred, Manhattan, and Bowery).

There are many dynamic and wonderful places to stay in New York City, but Hotel 50 Bowery delivers on an experience that mirrors its culturally and historically rich surroundings.

It's a Joie de Vivre hotel under the Hyatt umbrella, so you can earn World of Hyatt loyalty points with each stay. And, coming to Chinatown means you're likely spending more time and money supporting the many family-owned shops and businesses that have shaped the neighborhood for decades, which can only be a great thing.

best dog crate buying guide

  • Dog crates are great for keeping your pup out of trouble when you're gone from home, and dogs love to curl up in them for a nap.
  • There are many types of dog crates to consider, and each has its own pros and cons. From plastic crates and soft-sided crates to heavy-duty and furniture crates, we've done the research to find the best of the best.
  • With its heavy-gauge, powder-coated steel wire construction, the MidWest Ultima Pro Folding Crate is our top pick. Not only is it highly durable and easy to clean, but you can use it for dogs of all ages and sizes.

Whether you need to keep your dog confined when you're away from home or you simply want to provide them with a space to call their own, every dog needs a good crate. Having descended from wild wolves, dogs have a natural desire to sleep in a den. Providing your dog with a nice crate will give them a safe, comfortable space to rest, and it gives you peace of mind knowing that they aren't going to get into trouble while you're away from home. Having a crate is also extremely useful for potty-training a puppy.

When you think of dog crates, you probably picture a rectangular contraption comprised of metal wire. While this is certainly one type of dog crate, there are many others to consider and they each have their own pros and cons. From plastic crates and soft-sided crates to heavy-duty and furniture crates, we've done the research to find the best of the best. Keep reading to see our picks for the top dog crates on the market in four popular categories as well as our top pick overall.

Here are the best dog crates you can buy:

Updated on 11/04/2019 by Lisa Sabatini: Updated prices, links, and formatting.

The best dog crate overall

The MidWest Ultima Pro Folding Crate is a durable and versatile wire dog crate that's perfect for puppies or adult dogs.

Dog crates come in many different forms but you need to shop smart to make sure you get the right one. The ideal dog crate would offer excellent ventilation, high durability, easy cleaning, and comfort for your dog. Perhaps the most popular option in dog crates is the wire crate because it offers excellent ventilation and is easy to clean. Overall, wire crates are typically very affordable and available in a wide range of sizes. For all of these reasons, our top pick for the best dog crate is a wire crate — the MidWest Ultima Pro Folding Crate.

Not only is the MidWest Ultima Pro Folding Crate constructed from durable powder-coated steel wire, but it features five cross-beams for maximum strength and durability. Because the wire is resistant to bending, the crate keeps its shape well to ensure that the hooks and latches are always properly aligned. Easy to assemble and disassemble, this crate is portable and easy to store, plus it comes with a carry handle for your convenience. You'll also love the slide-out plastic tray that makes cleanup a breeze.

HerePup gave the crate an A- rating and praised the convenience of having five size options, all of which come with a free divider panel in case you want to use the crate for a puppy.Wirecutter says the crate is designed to last for your dog's entire lifetime and that it is sturdily constructed. The reviewers also note that while the heavy-gauge mesh may increase the price of this crate, it also adds to the durability.

The wire bottom of the cage may also scratch your flooring if you don't use the plastic feet.

Pros: Heavy-gauge steel wire, five cross-beams for maximum strength, removable plastic tray for easy cleanup, five different sizes, sturdy latches and hinges, two-door design for easy access, free divider panel, strong handle

Cons: Plastic tray may not stand up against heavy chewing, larger sizes can be heavy, latches may not line up if the wire becomes bent, may scratch your flooring if you don't use the plastic feet

The best plastic dog crate

With its quality plastic construction and simple slide and snap assembly, the Petmate Compass Plastic Kennel is our top pick for plastic dog crates.

Though a plastic dog crate may not be the most attractive option around, these crates offer your dog a little extra privacy and they are more difficult to escape from. The downside of plastic crates is that they offer limited ventilation and aren't quite so easy to clean. They are, however, great for travel and they can generally be disassembled for storage. Our top pick for plastic dog crates is the Petmate Compass Plastic Kennel.

Made from high-quality plastic with a sturdy construction, the Petmate Compass Plastic Kennel is a great choice for at-home use as well as travel. This crate features an oversized doorway for easy entry and the unique slide and snap assembly is quick and easy. With a metal grid door and plenty of ventilation all the way around the crate, your dog will relax in cool comfort while enjoying 360-degree visibility.

HellowDog calls the Petmate Compass Plastic Kennel the "perfect dog kennel for training or traveling." The Happy Pooch makes note of the large door and 360-degree ventilation as well as the quick and easy assembly system. This crate also comes highly recommended by Pup Picks for a quality plastic kennel that is simple but effective.

Pros: Quality plastic, easy to clean, slide and snap assembly requires no tools, large two-way door for convenience, airline approved, offers 360-degree ventilation and visibility, six sizes for dogs up to 90 pounds

Cons: Assembly may be challenging, airline approval not guaranteed for all airlines, cannot fold flat for storage or transport, may not accommodate dogs over 90 pounds

Buy the Petmate Compass Plastic Kennel on Amazon for $17.14 and up

The best soft-sided dog crate

The EliteField 3-Door Soft Dog Crate is constructed from durable 600D fabric with a steel tube frame and three doors for your dog's convenience and comfort.

If you don't like the look of a plastic or wire crate and you want something that will work well for travel, a soft-sided dog crate may be a good option to consider. These crates are typically lightweight and easy to store, though they can be more difficult to clean and may not withstand chewing or escape attempts. Soft-sided crates also tend to be better for smaller dogs. Our top pick for soft-sided dog crates is the EliteField 3-Door Soft Dog Crate.

Made from high-quality 600D fabric, the EliteField 3-Door Soft Dog Crate is lightweight but surprisingly durable. It features hex mesh fabric side panels that offer 360-degree ventilation and visibility — they also double as doors for easy access. The crate comes with a free carrying bag and a fleece bed for added value. It also folds down to just 3 inches high for easy storage and transport.

Top Dog Tips praises the quality of the construction and the convenience of the hand carrying straps and the free carry case. A review from Central Park Paws mentions the steel tube frame that is highly durable but lightweight, making this crate easy to transport. This crate also earns the number one spot from Ultimate Home Life as a generously sized crate that will keep your dog cool and comfortable.

Pros: Durable 600D fabric, hex mesh fabric side panels for ventilation and visibility, lightweight, folds flat, three doors for easy access, five sizes and many colors, comes with a carrying bag and fleece bed, two-year warranty, removable washable cover

Cons: May not withstand heavy chewing or hyperactive dogs, zipper may break or separate with rough handling, folding mechanism may stick sometimes

Buy the EliteField 3-Door Soft Dog Crate on Amazon for $39.99 and up

The best crate for puppies

The MidWest Life Stages Pet Crate is a great option for puppies because it has a divider that you can remove as your pup grows up.

When choosing a crate for a puppy, you have to consider more than just the size. You could purchase a small crate and then buy new crates as your puppy grows or you could make the smart choice and purchase a crate that has removable panels so the crate effectively grows in size alongside your puppy. Our top pick for a crate for puppies that offers this feature is the MidWest Life Stages Pet Crate.

Available in six different sizes as well as both single and double door options, the MidWest Life Stages Pet Crate is great for puppies of all sizes. Simply choose the crate that will best accommodate your puppy when he's fully grown and use the included divider to make the crate smaller until they grow up. This crate is made from heavy-gauge steel wire for durability and it features two slide-bolt latches for security and a slide-out tray for easy cleaning. It also folds flat for storage and travel.

My Sweet Puppy names the MidWest Life Stages Pet Crate its top pick for dog crates overall, praising the crate's excellent visibility and ventilation. The site also notes that setup doesn't require any tools and the crate folds flat for transport. Dogs Recommend speaks to convenient features like the fold-flat design, sturdy carry handles, and the removable tray. The review also mentions that the buyer can choose from a one-door or two-door design with six size options ranging from 22 inches to 48 inches.

Pros: Heavy gauge steel wire, two slide-bolt latches on each door, six sizes, one-door or two-door design, easy to assemble, folds flat for storage and portability, slide-out tray, easy cleaning, rubber feet protect floors

Cons: May not be strong enough for very large or hyperactive dogs, wire may bend under excessive force, assembly can be tricky for some users

Buy the MidWest Life Stages Pet Crate on Amazon for $26.99 and up

The best heavy-duty dog crate

Designed to stand up against even the largest, most powerful dogs, the ProSelect Empire Dog Cage is our top pick for heavy-duty dog crates.

Many of the dog crates on the market are made from wire, plastic, or fabric. These materials are lightweight and inexpensive but they won't hold up against a heavy chewer or a large, powerful dog. For dogs like these, a heavy-duty dog crate is a must. You need something made from high-strength, durable materials with a high-quality construction. Our top pick for a dog crate that meets all of these criteria and more is the ProSelect Empire Dog Cage.

The ProSelect Empire Dog Cage is significantly more expensive than many metal dog crates but it is virtually indestructible so you won't have to replace it time and time again. Built from 20-gauge steel-reinforced tubes with heavy-duty welds and stout dual door latches, this dog crate will stand up against anything your dog throws at it. Designed specifically to contain very large, powerful, and aggressive dogs, the ProSelect Empire Dog Cage stands up to the test.

K9 of Mine highlights the convenient features like four 4-inch locking wheels and a removable tray for easy cleanup. Doggy Toggery comments on the strong steel build as well as the crate's rust-proof durability. MySweetPuppy points out that this crate offers excellent ventilation and visibility to keep your dog cool and comfortable both indoors and out.

Pros: Virtually indestructible, high-quality steel, excellent ventilation, 360-degree visibility, removable tray, easy cleanup, rustproof, works indoors and outdoors, easy to assemble, built specifically for large and powerful dogs

Cons: Very expensive compared to other metal crates, heavy (medium weighs 76 pounds and large weighs 99 pounds), requires some assembly, not collapsible for storage or transport

Buy the ProSelect Empire Dog Cage on Amazon for $369.99 and up

The best dog crate furniture

With a beautiful hardwood construction, the Crown Pet Crate Table is both attractive and functional.

Many dog crates get the job done, but they don't look particularly attractive. A fashion dog crate is the best of both worlds — it will keep your dog safe and confined when necessary but it won't stick out like a sore thumb against your home decor. Fashion dog crates come in many different forms but our top pick is the Crown Pet Crate Table.

The Crown Pet Crate Table may be more expensive than many of the dog crates on the market but you have to remember that you're paying for aesthetic appeal as well as quality construction. Made from durable hardwood and available in three finishes, this fashion dog crate will keep your dog comfortable without detracting from your home décor scheme. It features a swing-through door plus plenty of ventilation all the way around the crate. It also features a waterproof melamine-covered floor for easy cleaning if your dog has an accident.

The Happy Pooch names the Crown Pet Crate Table its top choice in wooden dog crates, making note of its generous size and the ventilation bars that go all the way around the crate to keep your dog cool while giving them a 360-degree view of their environment. Labrador Training HQ also gives this crate a positive review for its quality construction, easy assembly, and generous size. The reviewer does warn, however, that the finish may have an odor that disappears after a few days.

Pros: Hardwood construction, attractive finishes, two sizes, plenty of ventilation, floor is covered with waterproof melamine for easy cleaning, can be used as an end table

Cons: Only available in two sizes, colors may be darker than pictured, door swings both inward and outward, bars are wood and not steel, won't' withstand heavy chewing

Buy the Crown Pet Crate Table on Amazon for $227.56 and up

The best Chase credit cards you can sign up for in 2019

Chase sapphire reserve card

Credit card points and frequent flyer miles can be incredibly useful, no matter what kinds of rewards you earn or what you eventually choose to do with them. While there are a few different types of credit card rewards, you benefit regardless of which kind your card earns by collecting a rebate on your everyday spending — as long as you practice financial discipline and pay off your statement in full each month.

Aside from rewards, a lot of credit cards come with perks, benefits, and complimentary services that can be extraordinarily useful and valuable. Think airport lounge access, roadside assistance, free primary rental car insurance, purchase protections, and more.

Here are our top picks for the best Chase cards in 2019:

Why you should consider a Chase card

Over the past few years, Chase has become a powerhouse in the credit card rewards and benefits space, growing its Ultimate Rewards program with the lucrative Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, and then launching the premium Sapphire Reserve in 2016 with a massive introductory sign-up bonus of 100,000 Ultimate Rewards points.

While that bonus has since dropped, the card remains a powerhouse of value, and the Ultimate Rewards program is fiercely competitive, with a ton of different ways to redeem points and a number of different cards available with varied benefits

If you're looking for a new Chase card to boost your stores of Ultimate Rewards points, or you're interested in getting access to new benefits or perks, it might be worth opening a new Chase card — just make sure that you know how opening a new card for the sign-up bonus or benefits can affect your credit.

Don't forget about Chase's 5/24 rule

Before you start applying for Chase credit cards, there's an important restriction you should know about. Chase has something called the 5/24 rule, which prevents you from opening most Chase cards if you've opened five or more credit cards with any bank in the last 24 months. Due to this rule, many award travel enthusiasts focus on opening Chase credit cards before cards with other banks.

Take a look below at our choices of the best available Chase cards, including our overall winner, the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

Keep in mind that we're focusing on the rewards and perks that make these credit cards great options, not things like interest rates and late fees, which will far outweigh the value of any points or miles. It's important to practice financial discipline when using credit cards by paying your balances in full each month, making payments on time, and only spending what you can afford to pay back.

The best Chase card overall

Why you'll love it: The Chase Sapphire Reserve makes it easy to earn rewards for travel and more with a great sign-up bonus and a lucrative points-earning scheme.

Sign-up bonus: 50,000 points (after spending $4,000 in the first three months)

Not only is the Sapphire Reserve our favorite Chase card — but it's also our pick for the best rewards credit card overall.

Earning 3 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent on dining and any travel, and 1 point per dollar on everything else, the Sapphire Reserve earns points quickly through your everyday spending, and it comes with a slew of perks.

Points are worth 1.5¢ each toward travel booked through Chase, but can also be transferred to a number of frequent flyer and hotel loyalty programs — typically, this gets you the most value for your points. Benefits include access to airport lounges through the Priority Pass network, trip delay coverage, purchase protection, a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit, and car rental primary coverage.

However, while the airport lounge access can be great, most Priority Pass lounges are in international terminals, which isn't helpful when you're flying domestically.

The annual fee is a hefty $450, but that's offset by a $300 travel credit each year, good for things like taxis, subway fare, parking, tolls, and flights.

There aren't many downsides to this card— besides the upfront annual fee. Chase has invested heavily in making the Ultimate Rewards program competitive. Booking flights by transferring points to frequent flyer partners is generally more lucrative — that's usually how people use points to fly in first and business class — but it can be complicated because you have to decipher award charts, find availability, and work around complicated airline rules.

However, because the Sapphire Reserve allows you to get 1.5¢ for each point, if you use them to book travel through Chase's online or phone travel agent, there's a simpler and still-valuable option.

Pros: Solid sign-up bonus, easy to earn points, points work with frequent flyer and hotel loyalty programs, good airport benefits

Cons: High annual fee, Priority Pass lounges are typically in international terminals

Click here to learn more about the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

The best Chase card with a lower annual fee

Why you'll love it:Chase Sapphire Preferred has a lower annual fee than the Sapphire Reserve and it's easy to rack up points.

Sign-up bonus: 60,000 points (after spending $4,000 in the first three months)

The Reserve's older sibling, the Sapphire Preferred offers a number of similar features, and an even higher sign-up bonus, for a lower annual fee. The card earns 2x Ultimate Rewards points instead of the Reserve's 3x points on dining and travel, and 1x points on everything else.

Points are worth a lower 1.25¢ on travel booked through Chase, but can still be transferred to frequent flyer and hotel loyalty programs. There's no annual travel credit, but there's still car rental primary coverage, as well as slightly less-generous trip delay coverage and purchase protection. The annual fee is a more manageable $95.

While the Sapphire Preferred was the all-around best card for a long time, the Sapphire Reserve has made it a harder choice. While the Preferred earns fewer points on bonus spending categories than the Reserve, and the value of the points on travel booked through Chase is less.

The no-hassle travel credit on the Sapphire Reserve makes the annual fee on that card effectively $150 (accounting for the $300 you get back through the credit), so — depending on your spending habits — it can be worth paying more up front for the Sapphire Reserve.

Pros: Good sign-up bonus, transferable points, travel perks, lower annual fee than the Sapphire Reserve card (and it's waived the first year)

Cons: Lower point value when purchasing travel through Chase, no annual travel credit, earns points more slowly than the Sapphire Reserve

Click here to learn more about the Chase Sapphire Preferred.

The best Chase card for everyday spending

Why you'll love it:Chase Freedom Unlimited helps you earn points for normal purchases and get cash back with no annual fee.

Sign-up bonus: Double rewards for your first year: 3% cash back (or 3 points per dollar spent) for your first year with the card on up to $20,000 of spend

If you already have the Sapphire Reserve or the Preferred and are saving your points for something, the Freedom Unlimited can give your balance a nice boost. While Chase markets the card as "cash back," it actually earns Ultimate Rewards points that you can redeem for cash (1 point = 1¢).

If you have a premium card like the Sapphire Reserve, you can pool your points from the two cards. The Freedom Unlimited earns 1.5 points per dollar spent, so paired with a Sapphire Reserve, it's a great card to use for purchases that aren't made on travel expenses or dining.

The card used to offer a 15,000-point (or $150) sign-up bonus, but recently replaced that with something new. Now, for your first year, you'll earn 3% back (3x points) on up to $20,000 of spend.

Best of all, the card has no annual fee and often has 0% APR for the first 15 months on purchases and balance transfers. After that, there's a 17.24%–25.99% variable APR. If you have a major purchase ahead of you, that introductory offer can be useful.

The Chase Freedom Unlimited is a fantastic all-around card. However, to get the most value when it's time to spend your points, you need the Sapphire Reserve or Preferred card, too, so you can pool your points. Otherwise, points are only worth 1¢ each no matter how you use them and they can't be transferred to airline or hotel partners.

Pros: Decent sign-up bonus, earn points on regular purchases, no annual fee, 0% APR for first 15 months (and a 17.24%–25.99% variable APR after that)

Cons: One point only equals one cent for cash back; to get a better value you'll need to pair it with a premium Sapphire card

Click here to learn more about the Chase Freedom Unlimited.

The best Chase card for small businesses, freelancers, and side-gigs

Why you'll love it: The Chase Ink Business Preferred helps small business owners rack up points quickly, and combine them with points earned on their personal cards.

Sign-up bonus: 80,000 points (after spending $5,000 in the first three months)

The Ink Preferred is an excellent rewards credit card — the bad news is that it's only available for small business owners. The good news is that a lot of things you might not expect actually count as small businesses, including freelancing, side gigs, and even selling things on eBay.

The card, which has a $95 annual fee, earns 3 points per dollar on the first $150,000 you spend each cardmember year in a few categories, including travel, shipping, internet/cable/phone, and advertising on social media sites or with search engines, such as Google Ads. Purchases after you reach $150,000, or in any other category, earn 1 point per dollar. Unless you operate a small business that's on the larger side, chances are you won't hit that cap.

Like with the Sapphire Preferred, you'll get a 25% bonus when using points earned with the Ink Preferred to book travel directly with Chase. Of course, if you pool them on your Sapphire Reserve card, that bonus will be 50% instead.

The card comes with a handful of other perks, many of which overlap with the Sapphire Preferred and Reserve, such as trip cancellation/interruption insurance, primary car rental loss/damage coverage, and various purchase protections. It also comes with cell phone insurance when you use the card to pay your phone bill, offering up to $600 for each covered claim.

Pros: Useful bonus categories, cell phone insurance, ability to transfer points

Cons: Caps on bonus earning which larger small businesses may reach quickly

Click here to learn more about the Ink Business Preferred.

The best Chase card for bonuses

Why you'll love it: The Chase Freedom offers 5% cash back or 5x points on up to $1,500 of spending in a different spending category each quarter, helping you boost your point stash.

Sign-up bonus: $150 bonus (15,000 points) after you spend $500 on purchases in the first three months

Just like the Freedom Unlimited, the regular Chase Freedom card is marketed as cash back, but actually earns Ultimate Rewards points that you can exchange for cash (1 point = 1¢). You can combine them with Ultimate Rewards earned from a different card, which gives you the option to get a bonus when redeeming them for travel or transfer them to travel partners.

The regular Freedom's key feature is that it earns 1% cash back (or 1 point per dollar spent) across the board, except for a rotating quarterly bonus category that earns 5% (or 5x points). In the past, the quarterly category has included things like Amazon, pharmacies, Lyft, restaurants, "entertainment" like movie theaters and concert tickets, and purchases made through Apple or Android Pay. This quarter, the categories are gas stations and select streaming services

Otherwise, the Freedom is pretty similar to the Freedom Unlimited. It doesn't have an annual fee, and there's an introductory 0% APR for the first 15 months on purchases and balance transfers (with a 16.74%–25.49% variable APR).

Pros: Decent sign-up bonus, for a no-annual-fee card, great earning rate on quarterly bonus categories, 0% APR for first 15 months (and a 16.74%–25.49% variable APR after that)

Cons: One point only equals one cent for cash back, to get a better value you'll need to pair it with a Sapphire card

M.Gemi's popular Corsa ankle boots are 20% off right now — here's why I still recommend them even at full price

M.Gemi Corsa boot

  • Italian footwear startup and direct-to-consumer brand M.Gemi makes some of the highest quality footwear you can find at a fraction of typical retail prices.
  • You may know of it because of their Instagram-famous loafers, but the $348 Corsa ankle boots are one of their standout styles.
  • They're 20% off until November 10, and the discount will apply automatically at checkout.
  • I tried the buttery-smooth leather version, and I'm never going back to my Sam Edelmans. I think they're worth it even at full price.

There's a chill in the air that smells distinctly crisp and fresh. The trees are officially turning and the leaves are beginning to dance to the ground. Soon, they'll be dry and crunchy beneath your feet, just begging to be stepped on.

All this to say that it's finally time to break out the cozy knit sweaters, hot apple cider (superior to the PSL in every way), and fashion's most gracious offering to our feet: ankle boots.

Ankle boots, in my opinion, are the white sneakers of cold weather. A good pair with a walkable heel height can be worn for pretty much any activity and with almost any outfit. But if you asked me to dream up my perfect pair, I wouldn't even bother — because Italian footwear startup M.Gemi has already made them.

Crafted in artisan Italian workshops with buttery soft leather or suede, The Corsa ankle boot is the most comfortable I've ever worn — and the most versatile, too. You may recognize the brand for its classic suede loafers, but if you ask me, its ankle boots are the real standout design.

The silhouette has a very subtle hint of '70s style with an elongated, fitted shaft and sleek sole. They are, in short, the perfect ankle boots for everyday wear, offering a hard-to-nail combination of form and function.

Corsa boots

The boots come in both leather and suede. I have the leather pair, which features a leather-wrapped heel rather than a typical stacked heel. This means the heel itself is a little more prone to scratching, but I haven't caused any damage to the leather on my pair's heels in the year or so I've been wearing them. The suede pairs have suede-wrapped heels, which look stunning, but are much more prone to show signs of wear. If you're one of those rare, magical women who knows how to keep suede boots clean, I don't think you could possibly regret getting a suede pair.

The leather pairs come in deep black and a shiny dark grey, while the suede pairs come in black, grey, and a warm-tone magenta color. There are also a couple colors on sale right now that I believe are being discontinued. I got my black leather pair in my regular size, a 7.5, which was definitely the right call. When I first tried them on, I was surprised that they were as soft and pliable as they are — from the look of the photos on their website, I thought the shaft would be a lot stiffer and more likely to cause blisters at the top (which is where most boots tend to get me). Instead, they're malleable enough to move with you as you walk, but thick enough to look and feel substantial. I've never gotten a blister from them, and their wearability straight from the box is just one thing that makes them so worthy of their $348 price tag.

M.Gemi Corsa boot

The heel height is also totally manageable at just over two inches, which means I can run around the city and walk around the office without wanting to scream. I have no patience for discomfort on my commute in particular (why torture my feet when taking the subway is hellacious enough?), and these adhere to my strict rule of footwear in which I could run to catch a train if needed.

Overall, I can't recommend these boots enough to anyone who feels they're within a reasonable price range. Though they're not cheap, the quality is the same as any pair you'd get from Prada or another luxury brand — just at a drastically lower price. And if you decide you don't love them or you need another size, you can take advantage of M.Gemi's complimentary return or exchange program.

Hotel review: The Moxy East Village from Marriott trades space for an affordable price point — here's why the small rooms are no compromise

Moxy East Village 4x3

  • Moxy East Village is a new four-star hotel in New York's East Village neighborhood, themed after its vibrant culture. The hotel features clear nods to rock and roll, street art, and other East Village countercultures.
  • As part of the Marriott Bonvoy family, Moxy East Village is a great option if you want to earn or redeem points during your stay.
  • I spent a night in an 11th floor Queen Room, which was small, yet comfortable. The historic decor, bustling common areas, and great location were the real draw.

New York City's East Village has long enjoyed a gritty and rebellious history. Located directly across from Webster Hall, a music venue that helped contribute to that reputation, the brand new Moxy East Village takes inspiration from its surroundings, with nods to the cultural movements and counterculture for which the neighborhood is known.

While the Chelsea location has more of a botanical theme (read our full review here), Moxy East Village channels rock and roll and avant-garde street art, which can be found throughout the hotel.

Current rates start at $185 midweek and rise to around $299 on weekends and holidays, with room configurations including Queen, Queen with Daybed, Double Double, and Quad Bunks. I spent a night in a Queen Room, which was comped for review purposes, and found the hotel to have all the amenities needed for a comfortable and hospitable stay.

While it just opened its doors a few months ago and is still finding its way, I think the hotel has the potential to become a favorite for travelers looking for good value and a unique experience in a locally loved neighborhood. As part of the Marriott family, you can also redeem and earn Marriott points here.

Keep reading to see why I was so impressed by Moxy East Village.

The entrance felt warm, inviting, and was filled with artwork. All of the lighting fixtures, paintings, neon signs, and shattered mirrors were designed by local East Village artists.

Checking in was incredibly easy and quick, with no hassle. I, along with all guests of drinking age, was given a wooden token for a complimentary glass of prosecco at the bar, which felt like a nice, welcoming perk.

I decided to bring my belongings to my room before checking out the bar, though I'll touch on that in a bit.

The elevator was another clear indicator that Moxy East Village wasn't a typical chain hotel.

With full-length mirrors and an illuminated graphic on the back wall, it was the first thing I noticed when the elevator doors opened and definitely made a statement.

Keep scrolling to take a closer look at the graphic ...

While different parts of Moxy East Village represented different eras in history, the elevator represented present-day and the future. The choice to include Emojis on the wall was a fun, yet accurate depiction of language and expression in the late 2010s, and beyond.

When I stepped out of the elevator onto the 11th floor, the first thing I noticed was the carpet. The grey-ish black color looked like asphalt with orange spray paint-style graphics. It was unmistakably reminiscent of New York City streets, although thankfully, much cleaner.

Given its size, the Moxy East Village is not the type of hotel where you hole up in your room.

My Queen room was rather small though it made great use of the space. When the hotel was developed, the rooms were designed to be small so that they could remain affordable, while offering other on-site amenities.

When I walked in, I was immediately impressed by the bathroom with large rain shower head, a beautiful green sink, and countertop. Even though it was small, the shower felt spacious and refreshing.

The bed was tucked away near tall windows. I really appreciated the back-lit headboard and reading lights on each side of my bed, which provided the perfect amount of light at night.

The windows were large and great for letting in natural light, though there wasn't much of a view. I could see the roof of Webster Hall and the taller builder behind it.

At the foot of the bed was a 43-inch smart TV. It's by no means the biggest TV I've seen in a hotel, but it doesn't need to be. Considering that it's right in front of you, you won't feel like it should be bigger. This is another example of how Moxy East Village proves that bigger isn't always better.

Storage is also a major concern in small hotel rooms, but Moxy East Village addressed it wonderfully. The safe was located in a pull-out drawer under the bed and there was a cubby hole for more belongings. My backpack fit just fine and I imagine a small suitcase could fit as well.

The room also had wooden pegs on the wall, a clothing rack, and a few hangers.

The gritty New York City motif carried into the room through a graffiti and stencil-style painting on the bathroom's glass walls and while I did not have a full desk, the sofa was a nice place to check emails.

While I didn't feel the small room was a compromise and loved the look and amenities, I know a nightly rate starting in the $200s might seem high for such a compact space. I also know as a New Yorker that it's comparable to other similar hotels, and staying here means you're paying for a well-designed and thoughtful room, with great on-site perks, and a fantastic location. It's also worth noting that you may score a lower deal in slower seasons and if you travel midweek, as opposed to staying on a weekend in prime fall as I did.

The hotel's Alphabet City Bar and Café, aptly named after the section of the East Village with the same name, is a great area to lounge, grab a drink, or a light bite on-site. I snapped this photo immediately after check-in when it was still empty, but by 5:30 p.m., it was bustling.

There are plenty of cozy spots to sit and enjoy a drink, both indoor and outdoor. Moxy is planning to install a retractable roof glass and heaters to keep it open year-round.

You'll also find chess and checkers, a free skeeball machine, and a few swinging sofas.

The far wall features a bookshelf full of classic movies and cassettes. I spotted everything from "The Karate Kid" and "RoboCop," to Michael Jackson and Bruce Springsteen. All of these items are authentic and sourced from eBay. They've since been glued together as previous guests mistook the tapes as freebies.

However, there's also a cart full of books from the legendary East Village bookstore Strand Books that are free. If one sparks your interest, it's yours to keep. The hotel regularly replenishes the books from Strand.

Located on the lower level is Cathédrale Restaurant, a French-Mediterranean-inspired restaurant owned and operated by Tao Group. To get there, you have to walk down an alley-inspired staircase, accessible from the bar, or directly from the street.

I wasn't able to get a reservation with short notice on a busy Friday night, so if you want to eat during your stay — or just for dinner in the city — make your reservation well in advance.

Since I wasn't able to get a table on Friday night, I woke up early on Saturday to go for breakfast and it was much quieter. The food was tasty, and a good option for hotel guests who don't want to venture far in the morning.

Moxy East Village is located directly across the street from legendary club and event venue Webster Hall. The popular brunch spot The Ainsworth East Village, and a pool hall, are also on the same block. All of these spots attract people, which brings liveliness, but it didn't hinder me from getting a good night's sleep.

In the larger surrounding area, you can get to Union Square Park in a 10-minute walk, Tompkins Square Park in a 14-minute walk, and Washington Square Park in a 15-minute walk.

If you're into vintage-style sportswear, hats, sneakers, and other gear, check out Mr. Throwback located at 437 E 9th Street. Moxy guests can save 20% on everything during their stay.

At the time of writing this review, Moxy East Village was only open for a short period of time, but reviews indicate that the hotel will be a successful addition to the Moxy's other New York City locations.

The hotel has a four-and-a-half out of five-star rating from 119 reviews on Trip Advisor and an 8.8 out of 10 rating from 39 reviews on Booking.com. Most reviewers praise Moxy East Village for its unique decor, lively common areas, and the great use of space in the small rooms, while others lament the compact rooms and untraditional experience. Ultimately, you should decide what kind of experience you're looking for, to see if Moxy fits the bill.

Who stays here: Couples and families that don't plan to be in their rooms often, but value quality amenities and plenty of things to do in the area, plus Marriott loyalists.

We like: The nods to East Village (and New York City as a whole). If you're visiting New York City as a tourist, you'll appreciate feeling immersed in the city during your stay, unlike standard hotels.

We love (don't miss this feature!): Visiting the Alphabet Bar and Café is a must. It's a great space to start the morning with coffee, unwind with a drink, or just lounge and socialize.

We think you should know: Moxy East Village just opened in September 2019, so it's a brand new space. As good as it is, there are plans to make it even better and new properties can take a bit of time to iron out kinks. You can expect the Moxy East Village rooftop to open in Spring 2020.

We'd do this differently next time: Stay in Double Double or Quad Bunk room with others to see how the living space feels when shared with other people.

The rooms at Moxy East Village are small. If you want a room with 20 feet in between the bed and the bathroom, a large desk, and a couch, then you should stay somewhere else. But if you're looking for a comfortable and affordable base while exploring the city, this is a wonderful choice.

Although I was inside and surrounded by plenty of comfort and amenities, I still felt like I was in New York City. It's not a typical chain and has a lot of personality.

While it's only been open a short time, I suspect the hotel will become a very popular destination due to its nostalgic East Village spirit and affordable prices.

How to record a phone call on your Samsung Galaxy S10 in 3 different ways

galaxy s10 plus front

  • While difficult, it is possible to record an incoming phone call on your Samsung Galaxy S10.
  • There's no built-in recorder on the device, and third-party apps are largely unable to record both sides of a phone call, which means outgoing calls can't be recorded.
  • You can record incoming (but not outgoing) calls with Google Voice.
  • You may need to record a call on speakerphone with a second device using a voice recorder app.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

Unfortunately, recording a phone call is not especially straightforward on an Android phone like the Samsung Galaxy S10

In most Android phones, there is no built-in recorder in the phone app, and there are few reliable apps for recording calls in the Google Play store.

There are three methods that may, depending upon your needs, work for you.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

Samsung Galaxy S10 (From $899.99 at Best Buy)

iPhone 11 (From $699.99 at Best Buy)

iPad (From $329.99 at Best Buy)

How to record incoming calls with Google Voice on your Samsung Galaxy S10

Perhaps the easiest way to record a phone call on your Galaxy S10 is using Google Voice. After you set up a Google Voice account and have the app set up on your phone, make sure call recording is enabled:

1. Start the Google Voice app.

2. Tap the three horizontal lines at the top left of the screen and then tap "Settings."

3. Turn on "Incoming call options" by swiping the button to the right.

Now when you receive a call, you can record it automatically by tapping "4" in the dialer after the call is active. Press "4" again to stop recording.

How to record with an app like Call Recorder on your Samsung Galaxy S10

There are a number of call recording apps like Call Recorder in the Google Play Store, but they are generally unreliable and often only record your end of the conversation. If you want to try this option, you may need to experiment with several apps.

How to record with a secondary device

Admittedly, this is not a convenient option, but if you need to record a call on your Galaxy S10, you might try this:

1. On another device, like an iPhone or tablet, install an app that records audio, like Rev Voice Recorder, or simply use the built-in voice recorder app associated with the device.

2. Start your call and place it on speakerphone.

3. With the second device nearby, record the call with the audio recording app.
