5 things guys should always do to avoid getting a rash when they shave, according to a Gillette scientist

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady looks in a mirror after having his

  • Business Insider spoke to the Gilette's Head of Scientific Communications Dr Kristina Vanoosthuyze.
  • She told us the five key things guys can do to avoid the dreaded razor burn.
  • Her advice included treating your neck differently to your face and never tapping your razor on the sink once you're finished.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

When it comes to shaving, no two men are the same.

Gillette's Head of Scientific Communications Dr Kristina Vanoosthuyze says that the average man takes between 200-300 strokes to finish their shave. However, for some men, as little as 30 strokes is enough to towel off and head out, while for others, it can take a marathon 700 strokes to raze every last follicle.

Likewise, some men apply a featherweight touch to their face when shaving, while others press down hard.

This means razor companies like Gillette have to make blades that work for the guy who takes 700 light strokes and the guy who's done in 30 hard swipes at the same time.

Business Insider spoke to Dr Vanoosthuyze ahead of the launch of the new Heated Razor from GilletteLabs, the company's latest razor which features a stainless steel warming bar that heats to either 43 or 50 degrees Celsius to give the feeling of a hot towel shave.

Here are her top 5 pieces of advice for a frictionless shave:

Read more:The 6 biggest mistakes guys make with their skin, according to the cofounder of a leading skincare brand

1. Use a cleanser before you shave

"Before the shave, spend time preparing the face by washing it with a gentle cleanser," Vanoosthuyze said.

"The water will soften beard hairs and make them easier to cut. Moreover, rubbing the skin with a gentle cleanser will help lift and release so-called trapped or ingrown hairs for a more comfortable shave."

Using a cleanser will also knock any dirt and dead skin out of the way, giving your razor a smoother glide.

Be careful not to use really hot water, though, as Mayo Clinic warns that this may strip essential oils from your face, leading to a rougher shave and proneness to acne.

2. Treat your neck differently to your face

Gillette heated razor

Guys who experience razor burn may get it worse on their necks than anywhere else.

According to Vanoosthuyze, that's because the skin on your neck has a very different layout to that of your face.

"Compared to the cheek, the neck skin has a different surface with 'raised' skin areas that are at a higher risk of being damaged by the blades," she said.

"Moreover, hair typically grows out of the skin at a lower angle and many men have so-called 'trapped' hairs in the neck area."

This (vaguely disgusting) diagram below shows the difference:

Difference between neck and cheek hair

In order to avoid getting a shaving rash on your neck, Vanoosthuyze advises applying your shave prep in a circular motion around to help release those trapped hairs.

3. Don't skimp on the shave gel

Whether you're a gel guy or a foam guy, it's a case of "the more the merrier" when it comes to lubricating your face.

"Apply plenty of shave foam or gel. This provides a protective layer and improves razor glide for a smoother, more comfortable shave," Vanoosthuyze said.

Shave gel also keeps your skin and your hairs hydrated, keeping them easier to cut for longer and soothing your face.

Lastly, it just makes it easier to see where you've already shaved. If you don't use enough gel or foam, you may forget where you've been and end up going over the same area multiple times, increasing your likelihood of getting razor burns.

4. Don't press too hard — let the razor do the work

Man shaving

"Shave using light strokes," Vanoosthuyze said. "Do not press too hard on your razor."

Countless scientists have developed your blades to within nanometers of precision so that they do all the work for you — there's no need to use a lot of force.

That being said, modern razors have been designed to deal with men who like to apply a bit of pressure on their shave.

"In Gillette's razors, the blades rest on miniature springs which are able to move up and down and automatically adjust to the pressure of the hand," Vanoosthuyze said.

This means the pressure will be distributed away from the blades, even if you're pressing hard.

5. Never tap your blade on the sink, or wipe it on a towel

One of the most common things guys do after they've finished their shave is tap their razor on the sink and/or wipe it on a towel in order to get rid of any loose hairs. But this is a big mistake, according to Vanoosthuyze.

"This can damage the precisely engineered razor parts and blunt the ultra-fine blades," she said.

If you don't replace your blades often enough, this will lead to an increased risk of getting nicks and irritation increases.

El Paso, where a gunman reportedly worried about a 'Hispanic invasion of Texas' shot up a Walmart, is one of the country's largest Latino cities

el paso walmart shooting

El Paso, the Texas city that was the site of a mass shooting at a Walmart this weekend, is one of the largest hubs for Latino and Hispanic people in the country.

Authorities say the shooter is a 21-year-old white male who may have circulated an anti-immigrant manifesto hours before the attack. The document expresses fears of "a Hispanic invasion of Texas," and that immigrants would turn it into a "Democrat stronghold." Police are currently working to confirm whether the suspected shooter penned the online statement.

As of this writing, Texas officials say 26 people were wounded and 21 died during the mass shooting, including seven Mexican citizens

Read more:Here are the 22 US cities and towns with more Spanish than English speakers

El Paso sits directly across the border from Ciudad Juarez in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua. The city was 83% Hispanic or Latino as of July 1, 2018, according to the US Census Bureau, while a quarter of residents were foreign-born.

Furthermore, nearly 70% of El Paso speaks Spanish, making it one of just 22 US cities and towns with more Spanish speakers than English speakers.

El Paso is also the estimated 38th largest city with the most unauthorized immigrants, according to Pew Hispanic. The El Paso region saw a 547% surge in migrant apprehensions— or ICE arrests — in the first half of fiscal year 2019, and so far ranks second in the number of total arrests this year.

El Paso currently hosts one of the largest enclosures to house largely Central American migrants crossing the Mexican border to seek asylum, as 570 people cross the area each day on average.

"If you look at the numbers from March, there was over 100,000 people that came across the borders. Roughly 53,000 of those individuals were family units, and 39,000 were children," US Customs and Border Protection commissioner John Sanders told Business Insider's Graham Flanagan earlier this year. "So it's truly unprecedented, the numbers that we're seeing come across."

Many politicians and pundits called the act as one motivated by white nationalism, including Democratic presidential candidate from El Paso, Beto O'Rourke. The former Congressman criticized Donald Trump's anti-Latino rhetoric as inciting violence and racism.

When asked by CNN whether he thinks Trump is a white nationalist, O'Rourke agreed and added, "We have a problem with white nationalist terrorism in the United States of America today. These are white men motivated by the kind of fear that this President traffics in."

'What is Google Assistant?': How to use and optimize Google's smart assistant on any compatible device

Google Pixel assistant

It's safe to say that we're in the midst of a smart assistant revolution. Since Apple first released its smart assistant, Siri, in spring 2011, competitors like Microsoft, Amazon, and Google have followed suit with their own virtual assistants.

While there are a set of standard skills that you can safely find in nearly any smart assistant — such as searching the internet or setting a timer — not all smart assistants are the same.

And recent additions to Google's assistant may just give it a competitive edge that other smart assistants lack.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

Google Home (From $99.99 at Best Buy)

Google Pixel 3 (From $699.99 at Best Buy)

What is Google Assistant?

The latest evolution of the smart assistant Google originally launched in 2012 with Google Now, Google Assistant is the tech company's AI-powered smart assistant.

In a playful nod to their search engine, Google markets Google Assistant as a user's "personal Google"— built to help them navigate their own busy lives the way Google might help them navigate a busy web.

Native to most Android phones, as well as Google Home devices, Google Assistant allows users to use both voice and text commands.

Where you can use Google Assistant

For users with an Android phone or a Google Home, all that's needed to summon Google Assistant is saying "OK Google" or "Hey Google," and the assistant will pop up at the bottom of your screen. Or for Pixel phone users, simply squeezing the bottom of your phone will work as well.

For iPhone users, it's as simple as downloading the Google Assistant app. From there, users can connect the assistant with their primary Google account to give it access to their calendar and important emails — like restaurant or flight reservations.

HowCanIHelp_GAssistant

Thanks to its integration with Android devices and Google accounts, users can also use Google Assistant when away from their Google Home or even their phones. Google Assistant is compatible with Android Auto vehicles, wearables like Google's smartwatch and Pixel Buds, Nest security products and a variety of non-Google smart displays. These devices also all respond to the standard "OK Google" or "Hey Google" call.

What you can do with Google Assistant

Once Google Assistant is up and running, what exactly can you do with it?

Similar to other smart assistants, you can program Google Assistant to give you news briefings (on-demand or at scheduled times), answer questions like "What's the weather like?" or "When does the sun set today?," and play music from Spotify, as well as YouTube Music. Users can also use Google Assistant to cast TV or movies to Chromecast TVs.

Sunset_GAssistant

With its access to a user's Google calendar and emails, Google Assistant can also give the user a briefing on what their schedule for the day ahead looks like when asked "Hey Google, what's my day look like?"

Google Assistant is also equipped with some cutting edge skills that competitors like Amazon's Alexa have yet to replicate, including its built-in interpreter.

  • By asking, "Hey Google, be my Spanish interpreter" Google Assistant can be used in real time to translate a conversation where both people are speaking a different language.
  • For example, if ordering a paella in Spain, Google Assistant could translate both your request to Spanish as well as the server's reply to English.

Users can also use Google Assistant to help screen calls and avoid potential scam calls.

  • When receiving a phone call users can choose to answer or reject the call, like usual, or they can choose to have Google Assistant pickup the call the screen it.
  • Like listening to someone leave a voicemail, the user can listen to Google Assistant ask why the person is calling and based on the response — genuine or seemingly from a script — can choose to pick up the call or not.

ScreenCall_GAssistant

How to optimize Google Assistant

To make sure you're getting the most out of your Google Assistant, try exploring its settings and toggling on and off extra options.

  • For example, in the "My Day" briefing on a phone running Google Assistant, you can select if you'd like to hear the weather, the news, and or a traffic report. You can also select what kind of news you'd like to hear to stop Google from playing others.

And, as with any great assistant, part of utilizing Google Assistant is to let it take over tedious tasksto save you time.

  • For example, instead of fumbling to take a selfie yourself simply ask "OK Google, take a selfie" and the assistant will open the camera for you and set a 3-second time for the perfect picture.
  • Similarly, users can ask Google Assistant to turn on or off their phone's flashlight hands free.

Another unique feature to take advantage of with assistant on your smartphone is something called Lens.

  • By clicking the lens icon within the Google Assistant app the assistant will launch the phone's camera and help users learn more about what they're seeing.
  • For example, if the user points their camera at a plant or dog the assistant can pull up information on the species or breed.

Inside the mysterious Manhattan apartment building on East 66th Street, where underage models, lawyers, and key players in Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking circle all live. Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak is a frequent visitor.

Jeffrey Epstein 301 East 66th Street

  • An apartment building on the Upper East Side of Manhattan has been home for years to young models, girlfriends, pilots, and lawyers associated with multimillionaire sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
  • Almost all the apartments in the building are owned by Epstein's brother, Mark, a real estate developer. He purchased them from the billionaire Leslie Wexner, Jeffrey Epstein's only known client.
  • Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak has been repeatedly spotted by residents visiting the building.
  • MC2, the modeling agency Epstein invested in, used the apartments to house overseas models. MC2's founder, Jean-Luc Brunel, had an apartment there.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

Before his extended stay in New York's Metropolitan Correctional Center began in July, the disgraced sex offender Jeffrey Epstein dwelled in some of the city's most exclusive real estate, laying his head in a palatial Upper East Side townhouse and conducting his mysterious business out of a historic landmarked mansion on Madison Avenue.

But it hasn't been all private islands and 7,000-acre ranches for the half-billionaire. For decades, Epstein has run some of his operations quietly out of a squat Second Avenue residential building owned by his brother, Mark Epstein, and frequently visited by the former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak.

According to property records and court filings, Jeffrey Epstein has long housed girlfriends, associates, employees, and businesses in a handful of the 150-odd units at 301 East 66th St. owned on paper by his brother's development firm, Ossa Properties.

A light-filled lobby on a less upscale block

Jeffrey Epstein 301 East 66th Street

The post-war white brick highrise sits atop a nail salon, a coffee shop, and an Italian restaurant along a traffic-choked stretch of Second Avenue. Topped by a green canopy, the front door opens to a doorman's stand guarding a hallway that leads to a light-filled lobby decorated with two couches and an armchair. Though the building shares a zip code with Epstein's townhouse, its share of the neighborhood east of Park Avenue is decidedly less upscale, catering more to families and young professionals than foreign heads of state.

Some of Epstein's activity at the apartment building appears to be business-related: New York state corporate registrations tie 9 East 71, an LLC named after his townhouse, and NES LLC, which actually owns the townhouse and pays his pilots' paychecks, to the building.

Over the years, he's assigned units in the building to his house managers, and used two one-bedrooms to house his pilots during New York layovers. In the next-door garage, attached to 301 East 66th St. by a private entrance, he stored a Chevrolet Tahoe.

The modeling agency Epstein invested in housed underaged models "four girls to an apartment"

Over the years, a number of Epstein's friends have also called 301 East 66th St. home, including his his ex-girlfriend, the socialite Eva Andersson (who is now married to hedge fund star and Epstein confidant Glenn Dubin); and his former business partner, MC2 Models founder Jean-Luc Brunel. (According to one Page Six report, the modeling agency was named after Einstein's famous equation, with the missing "E" standing for Epstein. "He thinks everyone is too dumb to figure it out," the paper reported.)

Jeffrey Epstein 301 East 66th Street

Then there were the underage models. Many of them were foreign and scouted by Brunel, according to a 2010 deposition given by a former MC2 bookkeeper named Maritza Vasquez. (Vasquez could not be reached for comment, but her sworn statement was supported by Epstein's former house manager, Alfredo Rodriguez, whose annotations of Epstein's address book include "Apt. for models" next to the 66th Street entry.)

"I know that the models were staying in different apartments belonging to Jeffrey Epstein," Vasquez said during the deposition. "There is not only one girl. There is not only one apartment. I believe there were like, two or three apartments. And they were put in between four girls per apartment."

All four of the named "co-conspirators" in Epstein's plea deal have been associated with the building

Vasquez said part of her job was helping to obtain visas for the girls, and recalled fielding an angry call from Epstein after a model visa application for a 14-year-old named Nadia Marcinkova fell through. Part of the problem, Vasquez said, was that she wasn't really a model.

"That girl never work, she was never a model. She was living in his place but she disappear," Vasquez said she was told by a co-worker who worked directly on the application. "She never actually even worked as a model."

Indeed, according to a Palm Beach Police Department report from 2006, Epstein told one of his victims that Marcinkova was a "sex slave" that he had purchased from her parents in Yugoslavia when she was a teen. According to the report, Marcinkova frequently participated in sexual acts with Epstein and his underaged victims.

Jeffrey Epstein 301 East 66th Street

By 2007, she was 22 and working as an assistant for Epstein when she and three other women were granted immunity as potential co-conspirators in his controversial plea deal with federal prosecutors. Records show that all of the women named in that agreement, who were accused of helping to coordinate or physically participating in Epstein's sex trafficking operation — Marcinkova, Sarah Kellen, Adriana Ross, and Lesley Groff — shared something else in common: the 66th St. address.

It's not clear when Ross left the building, but Groff was still operating out of a tenth floor unit as Epstein's assistant and an employee of NES, LLC in 2009, according to a deposition given that year by Epstein's pilot, Larry Visoski. (The company, now registered in the Virgin Islands, is still active. In March, after a judge invalidated Epstein's plea deal, someone operating as NES, LLC shipped a 193-pound tile and carpet extractor from Epstein's private island to his Manhattan townhouse.)

Epstein's long-time lawyer has a corporate address there, too

Both Kellen and Marcinkova — she later shortened her name to Marcinko — continued to live or work at 301 East 66th St. for the next decade, records show. The building is the active registration address for Marcinko's company, Aviloop, and was listed as the delivery address for Kellen's company, SLK Designs, up until this month. A group of young model-types photographed with Epstein in 2016 have also been linked to the building, according to public records databases.

According to court documents and his own attorney registration files, Epstein's lawyer, Darren Indyke, used a 10th floor unit as his primary office address for almost a decade; he also used the address to receive mail for his corporation, DKI PLLC. The company was later listed as the point of contact for Epstein's private foundation in 2008, the same year Epstein began serving out his sentence in Palm Beach.

Entry for 301 East 66th Street in Jeffrey Epstein's Little Black Book

One of Epstein's units, previously linked to Marcinko and listed as a mailing address for a number of Epstein ventures, is now home to the studio of Joyce Anderson, a fashion photographer who specializes in headshots and "children/pre-teen sessions," according to her website.

She's been there since 2007, when she moved her studio from 30 Vandam Street — another building owned by Mark Epstein. (The Vandam Street building, a mixed-use six-story structure in Manhattan's Hudson Square, is also where a company called "Saint Model and Talent" was registered to Mark Epstein in 2005, business records show. According to the New York Department of State's Division of Corporations, it is still active, although there's no public trace that it operates.)

Jeffrey Epstein 301 East 66th Street

Anderson and Mark Epstein made a joint donation to the New School scholarship fund in 2007, and appear to have a longstanding relationship, which is documented in Anderson's social media posts. One photograph posted to her Facebook account in 2016 shows Anderson's luggage from a road trip, including an athletic bag embroidered with "J. Epstein."

Reached by phone, Anderson declined to comment on her work as a photographer or her connection to the Epstein brothers, saying, "I have no information to offer you. Have yourself a wonderful day, thank you."

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak visited "often"

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak hasn't been photographed entering or leaving 301 East 66th St., like he was outside Epstein's infamous townhouse in 2016, but he made an impression nonetheless. Residents say he has been periodically visiting the building for years.

One former resident says she "often" saw Barak and his security detail in the building, with a sighting as recent as this calendar year. Another former resident, who confirmed Barak was a frequent visitor, said he once accidentally rode the elevator with Barak and two unfriendly security guards after sliding in through the doors at the last second.

Barak's presence in the building was often announced to residents by way of a visible security detail with Suburbans idling on the street outside, witnesses say. One source who visited the building in 2017 recalls seeing what the source described as "Mossad agents" — meaning Israeli security guards — waiting downstairs, and former residents said at least one member of the security team would typically be posted in the lobby with an earpiece when Barak was upstairs. On at least one occasion, the former resident said, NYPD officers were also stationed outside.

Jeffrey Epstein 301 East 66th Street

Barak's name and contact information appeared in Epstein's "Little Black Book," which Gawker published in 2015. His name had been circled by Rodriguez, the house manager who had stolen it and tried to sell it to lawyers representing Epstein's victims. According to the Washington Post, Rodriguez told FBI agents that he had circled the names of "witnesses" to Epstein's activities.

Barak admitted to the Daily Beast last month that he had visited two of Epstein's Manhattan residences and his private island, but denied meeting any girls there. He kept the details otherwise vague, telling the outlet that he and Epstein ultimately met "more than 10 times and much less than a hundred times, but I can't tell you exactly how many. I don't keep count."

Barak didn't mention the state of Florida in his statement, but Alan Dershowitz testified in a 2015 deposition that Epstein maintained a suite of guest bedrooms in his Palm Beach home which were "assigned to people like Senator George Mitchell, Ehud Barak, prominent guests who would stay in his house."

Jeffrey Epstein 301 East 66th Street

Barak is now reportedly working to dissolve a limited partnership he formed with Epstein in 2015, saying he didn't realize at the time of their agreement that Epstein's crimes involved minors. A spokesperson for Barak did not respond to a request for comment.

A doorman on duty at the building last week confirmed seeing security details outside, but said he wouldn't be able to determine if any visitors to the building were underage, suggesting at one point that a 30-year-old reporter standing in the lobby could be a teenager for all he knew.

Mark Epstein says he has nothing to do with his brother's businesses or alleged sex trafficking

Epstein's brother, Mark, has also long denied any knowledge of his brother's activities in the building.

"I don't live in that building, I don't monitor who uses those apartments," he told Crains New York last month. "I'm not sure who pays it, but Jeff's been renting there for years."

Reached by phone, Mark declined to answer any questions, referring a reporter to previous statements before abruptly hanging up. In response to an emailed list of questions, he wrote, "We didn't get disconnected, I hung up on you. Be clear about that."

But in the interview with Crains New York, Mark denied any business crossover between his company, Ossa Properties, and his brother. When a 2004 Harlem charter school filing characterized Ossa as "an affiliated NYC real estate investment company" of his brother's investment firm, J. Epstein & Co., he characterized it as a "mistake."

"There's no business relationship between those entities," he told the newspaper. But records show at least two 1991 filings where Ossa's address is listed as "475 Madison Avenue" — the home of J. Epstein & Co. and a charitable foundation named "Epstein Interests." It's also the same office where Jeffret Epstein's attorney, Darren Indyke, first registered a company called E Management. According to court documents, E Management was operated by Brunel, the owner of MC2.

Mark Epstein purchased his units from Leslie Wexner, his brother's only known client

Jeffrey Epstein 9 East 71st Street

Since its inception in the early 1980s, J. Epstein & Co. has had only one public client — the billionaire Les Wexner, who apparently gave Epstein the $70 million townhouse he now calls home before their personal and professional affiliation ended in 2007.

It turns out that the mansion isn't the only patch of New York real estate that Wexner transferred to an Epstein: Mark told Crains New York that he bought the units at 301 East 66th St. in the early 1990s from Wexner. His brother tipped him to the opportunity.

But a former classmate of Epstein's interviewed in James Patterson's book "Filthy Rich" made it sound like more of a partnership.

"He was a diamond in the rough, you see," Gary Grossberg told Patterson. "People recognized Jeffrey's brilliance very early on. But he had a gift for recognizing opportunities very quickly. He started buying properties in Manhattan, including 301 East 66th St. He asked his brother — did Mark want to join him? He did."

With additional reporting by John Cook and J.K. Trotter.

Beautycounter developed a plant-based version of retinol for its new anti-aging skin-care line — here’s what it’s like to use and why the dupe may be a safer option

  • Beautycounter just released a skin-care line called Countertime that's made specifically for aging skin. It includes a proprietary plant-based substitute for retinol, a popular but potentially harmful skin-care ingredient.
  • I had the opportunity to try the Countertime set ahead of its launch, and the products were gentle, hydrating, and easy to layer.
  • My skin did appear plumper, firmer, and better hydrated overall, with the Hydrating Essence ($59) and Tripeptide Radiance Serum ($79) being standouts for me.
  • There's no denying the prices are high ($49-$89 per bottle), but if that's comfortable for you, Countertime formulas are a great option for addressing signs of aging.

Beautycounter, known for its clean beauty activism and strict policy of eschewing potentially harmful ingredients, just released its first-ever skin-care line engineered specifically for aging skin: Countertime

Steering clear of the passé idea that women's worst fear and greatest sin is the audacity to age and show said aging, Beautycounter avoids billing Countertime as an "anti-aging" line and focuses instead on the desire to meet time on your own terms. That said, it's still a skin-care line designed to target the effects of time on the skin — just without the branded shame of aging.

For aging skin, Beautycounter's main concerns were strengthening the skin's natural barrier, increasing its ability to defend itself against environmental stressors, and visibly reducing fine lines and wrinkles by fortifying the skin's elasticity and firmness.

In most skin-care lines designed for aging skin, you'll find retinol in the ingredients list. According to Harvard Health, retinoids are the most-used and most-studied anti-aging compounds. Their benefits include reducing fine lines and wrinkles by increasing collagen production, improving skin color by stimulating new blood vessels, and fading age spots and softening rough patches. However, Beautycounter decided to forgo adding retinol to Countertime due to concerns over its safety — citing internal and external studies that have shown potential for reproductive toxicity and general skin irritation (the latter a mainstream consumer complaint).

Removing retinol from a debut collection designed specifically for aging skin leaves a big hole in the recipe. To fill it, Beautycounter tasked its lab of researchers with concocting something new that could safely — and effectively — fill the void. Flash forward many failed Frankensteins and lab tests later, and Beautycounter found success with a new retinol dupe it's calling the Retinatural Complex. Beautycounter credits the Complex with keeping skin plump and hydrated, increasing the feeling of firmness, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, boosting the skin's barrier function, improving texture and tone, and protecting against oxidative damage which can cause chronic disease

070919_COUNTERTIME_LP_IGP_04_DESKTOP_RIGHT_US

The Retinatural Complex leans on two under-the-radar anti-aging plant essences: Bakuchiol and Swiss Alpine Rose.

Bakuchiol is a vegan, non-irritating retinol alternative, as explained by Allure in 2018. But, before then, it was used in traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic skin-care remedies for centuries. Like retinol, clinical testing shows it increases cell turnover by stimulating collagen and diminishing skin concerns associated with aging like fine lines, wrinkles, photodamage, and skin laxity — all without the potentially harmful or irritating side-effects.

Swiss Alpine Rose, on the other hand, grows at the highest altitudes of the Swiss Alps, and it's best-known for an uncanny ability to protect itself against environmental stressors and dehydration.

Beautycounter sent me Countertime products to test ahead of their launch, so I've compiled what each product does — and how they performed — below for reference. In general, they were gentle, effective, and easy to layer — a set you can realistically use in tandem. My skin seemed tighter, more "glowy", firmer, and plumper post-use. I don't wear foundation typically, but I've started to look forward to using this as a kind of makeup because it makes my skin look so dewy and fresh. However, it takes about three to six months for you to see a reduction in wrinkles with retinoids, and the exact number for the Retinatural Complex wasn't readily available, so only prolonged use will demonstrate if these are long-term results. The price range of $49-$89 is not ideal, but if you're willing to pay more for efficacy, clean ingredients, and daily luxury, you'll likely find this line to be worth it.

Another (less) important thing to note is that Countertime is a good-looking collection. But, more than that, it comes in glass bottles rather than plastic. According to Beautycounter, this will reduce the line's greenhouse gas footprint by an estimated 38%. You can also find easy-to-follow instructions on recycling on the packaging itself.

Skin care is a notoriously personal process, and what works for me may not work for you. If you do decide to try a Countertime product but you don't love it, Beautycounter's return policy online states that you can return the unused portion within 60 days from the ship date for your money back — though the company won't pay back original shipping and handling fees.

Shop the Countertime collection here.

Keep reading for a personal review of the products I tried from the Countertime collection:

Countertime Lipid Defense Cleansing Oil

Countertime Lipid Defense Cleansing Oil, $49

In person, this is a lightweight cleansing oil — probably exactly what you're thinking. If you want something gentle to remove makeup and grime without stripping your skin, this will do it. Ingredients like vitamin E, fatty acids, and the Retinatural Complex leave the skin feeling hydrated and clean.

It does its job well, but it would probably be lower on the list of products I'd restock for myself in terms of value for the price. I still like to double-cleanse, and I prefer to feel a bit more gentle resurfacing in a facial cleanser (like what you'd expect from AHAs and BHAs).

For nourishing makeup removers, I personally like Beautycounter's cleansing balm and a comparatively cheap, silky Bioderma micellar water

Countertime Mineral Boost Hydrating Essence

Countertime Mineral Boost Hydrating Essence, $59

This was one of the best products of the collection. Its combination of fermented sugars, mineral-rich seawater, and the Retinatural Complex made my skin look glowy, tight, and firm. The company cites a clinical study of 32 subjects where, immediately following a single application, the formula had improved the skin's barrier function (its main goal).

Countertime Tripeptide Radiance Serum

Countertime Tripeptide Radiance Serum, $79

After the mineral-rich essence, you massage this serum into your decolletage, neck, and face in upward motions. Peptides, amino acids, and the Retinatural Complex work together to support the skin's moisture barrier, improve hydration and radiance, diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Post-use, my skin looks glowy and firm, and it locks in the products underneath.

As I learned when a dermatologist critiqued my skin-care routine, serums are considered workhorse products. They deliver actives deep into the skin to target your specific concerns: fine lines, hyperpigmentation, etc. If you're only going to make one Countertime purchase and you really want to make it count, this is a good candidate.

Countertime Antioxidant Soft Cream

Countertime Antioxidant Soft Cream, $79

True to its description, this is a soft and velvety cream. Alongside the Retinatural Complex,  nasturtium flower extract helps protect the skin against drying environmental stressors. It's lush, sinks into the skin without leaving any residue, and left me with a healthy, plump glow. Based on a 35-subject consumer perception study the company cites, 100% of participants agreed their skin looked brighter and more radiant after four weeks of use. I'd agree with them.

Countertime Tetrapeptide Supreme Cream

Countertime Tetrapeptide Supreme Cream, $89

Alongside the Retinatural Complex, Beautycounter packed this overnight cream with tetrapeptide to increase skin elasticity and minimize the appearance of fine lines, and fermented sugars to optimize hydration in renewed skin cells.

I wouldn't recommend spending $89 on an overnight cream unless it's a comfortable expense for you, but, in the off-chance that it is, this is one of the best for deep hydration without blocking pores in the process. It goes on as an unapologetically thick, rich night cream but it never clogged my acne-prone skin. In the morning, my skin felt hydrated — the happy place in between dry and oily — and firm.

Countertime Ultra Renewal Eye Cream

Countertime Ultra Renewal Eye Cream, $69

The Retinatural Complex and Persian silk tree extract work together to reduce the appearance of under-eye shadows and crow's feet. In a 34-subject consumer perception study cited by the company, 91% said they experienced a brighter eye area and 94% saw a reduction in the appearance of crow's feet over the course of four weeks. In person, it's a medium-thickness cream that goes on smoothly, absorbs well, and makes the eyes appear brighter. I did wake up with slightly less puffy eyes post-application.

Eye creams can be expensive, but this one should last you for months. A little goes a long way.

Countertime Regimen Set

If you want to own the whole routine, you can buy it together in the Countertime Regimen Set ($267)

If you're just looking to buy the highlights and save yourself some money, I'd recommend checking out the Essence, Serum, and Supreme Cream first.

The best daily conditioners for toddlers you can buy

$

  • Keeping your toddler's hair soft and manageable is easier with a high-quality conditioner made with natural ingredients.
  • After much research, we found Honest Conditioner to be the best for most toddlers with natural ingredients that moisturize and nourish delicate hair.

After a long day at preschool or playing outside, your child's hair can become quite dirty or oily, making bathtime a must.

When you wash toddler's hair, you're not only rinsing out the grime but some of the natural oils too. Most toddler shampoos are as gentle as possible, but you still need to add moisture back in. It comes as no surprise that toddlers need a high-quality conditioner that gets the job done.

When it comes to choosing a toddler conditioner, you want one that's as natural and gentle as possible. Yet toddler conditioners come in many choices. Depending on your toddler's hair type, you might need one to detangle long locks or help ease frizz. Or perhaps, you want one with the most natural and organic ingredients for sensitive skin.

As a mom of two toddlers, I've tried my share of conditioner.

My kids have different hair types, so I've had to use different brands at the same time. I've learned to evaluate conditioner on the following criteria: the quality of the ingredients, how well it nourishes and protects hair, and the cost per ounce. While one bottle of toddler conditioner might be cheaper, you may need more of the creamy stuff so you'd be wasting money in the long run.

I picked out the best toddler conditioners based on these criteria, looked at tons of reviews, asked other parents, and used my own personal experience.

Here are the best toddler conditioners you can buy:

The best conditioner overall

The Honest Conditioner is an amazing baby and toddler conditioner that's nourishing, natural, and smells great.

TheHonest Conditioner is a premium hair conditioner that's somehow nice on the pocketbook and even sweeter on your toddler's hair.

I first discovered the Honest Conditioner when I started to use its diaper bundle service. When you subscribe to a diaper bundle, you have the option to buy other Honest products at a discount. This cuts down the cost of the conditioner considerably. For example, the conditioner usually is $9.95 onHonest or $8.95 onAmazon, but with the subscription service, it's only about $7 — which is an excellent price.

But if the cost savings don't pull you in, then the ingredients might.

It's made without silicones, parabens, synthetic fragrances, formaldehyde donors, or phthalates. I'm continuously horrified by the amount of chemicals in shampoos for babies and kids. With Honest, all ingredients are naturally derived and listed out for full transparency, and formulas are hypoallergenic and tested by dermatologists.

Honest Conditioners also smell amazing. I loved the calming Lavender and Orange Vanilla scents, but there is a fragrance-free option as well.

The lack of chemicals doesn't mean an ineffective formula. In fact, the conditioner helps tame knots and tangles while locking in moisture and soothing itchy scalps. This conditioner works on multiple hair types from thick and curly to thin and delicate.

I'm not the only mom who loves Honest Conditioner. It's available on Amazon,Target,BuyBuyBABY, and other major retailers, with shoppers saying, "I love everything about this conditioner! The packaging, pump dispenser, and the smell...I can't get enough."

Pros: Ideal for many hair types, hypoallergenic, affordable, natural, smells great, inexpensive

Cons: Scents might noe suit everyone

The best conditioner for curls

The Shea Moisture Mango and Carrot Extra-Nourishing Conditioner is an exceptional shampoo for curly hair. It gently nourishes and moisturizes curls to perfection.

More than one mom friend uses the Shea Moisture Mango and Carrot Extra-Nourishing Conditioner on their kids, so I decided to try it out after seeing the brand at Walmartand Target.

My first experience didn't disappoint.

When I opened the bottle, the warm scent of mango and carrot wafted up, and it smelled delicious. The texture was creamy without feeling oily, and when I rubbed a small amount into my kid's hair, it felt really silky.

The conditioner works for many types of curls from tight ringlets to long waves. It has natural and certified-organic ingredients that nourish hair, like mango butter that leaves hair feeling silky smooth, carrot oil that protects from breakage and promotes healthy hair, and orange blossom for sensitive scalps. It also works well as a detangler.

Plus, you get all this for less than $9, though depending on where you buy it, the conditioner can range between $8 and $10.Many parents love the conditioner and say works well on curly hair — some even say it's great for the whole family.

Pros: Inexpensive, uses natural ingredients, moisturizes, excellent for curls

Cons: Strong smell, potentially heavy on hair

The best detangling conditioner

The Little Twig Detangling Conditioner is by far the best kid's detangler you can buy. A small amount transforms knots and tangles into smooth-as-silk hair.

My daughter has delicate curls that stretch down her back, but tangles really easily even with a small gust of wind. Bathing takes a long time around our house as I have to stand in the bath with her so she can't slip away.

The Little Twig Detangling Conditioner is a fast-acting detangler that removes knots in seconds. All I do is apply a small amount and run my fingers through her hair. Each time I use it, I'm astounded by how well it works.

There's no crying or need to dump the entire bottle on her head; I even give her some to rub in herself. You can rinse out the conditioner or leave it in as the formula isn't heavy and won't make your kid's hair oily. I honestly love this detangler and feel grateful to have discovered it.

It's inexpensive at less than $7 on Amazon, and I only use it a few times per week, so one bottle has lasted a long time.

Besides working exceptionally well on knots and tangles, it smells delicious but isn't overpowering. The formula is natural too — there are no harmful chemicals, synthetic fragrances, or dyes. It has aloe vera, oils like chamomile and calendula, and vitamins E and B5 to smooth and hydrate. Ever since I started using this conditioner on my daughter's hair, it's never looked frizzy or felt dry.

But don't take my word for it. Check out some of the great reviews on Amazon: "I love this product. This conditioner leaves my girls hair very soft and manageable! This is great for my 3-year-old who has constantly tangled curls and hates to have her hair brushed!"

Pros: Great at detangling, smooths out frizz, uses natural ingredients. smells delicious

Cons: Using too much can make hair oily

The best toddler leave-in spray

The TotLogic Leave-In Conditioning Spray detangles and nourishes toddler hair on the go without leaving any greasy residue.

Sometimes you don't have time to condition your little one's hair while bathing them, but you still want something that detangles, smooths frizz, and adds shine quickly.

The TotLogic Leave-In Conditioning Spray is made from plant-based moisturizers that are suitable for many hair types. It helps detangle knots, snarls, and tangles from daily washing — and general toddler life.

You can spray it on wet hair or dry hair anytime throughout the day. Sometimes leave-in sprays can make delicate toddler hair feel heavy and greasy, but TotLogic Leave-In Conditioning Spray doesn't weigh hair down. Instead, it feels freshly washed and has a lovely light scent from the lavender and bergamot essential oils, though some shoppers said they didn't like the scent.

TotLogic also makes a gentleregular conditioner as well as one specifically to helpprevent lice. All of the products are eco-friendly and made in the US.

On Amazon, TotLogic has a 4.2 out of 5-star review with almost 500 reviews. One shopper mentions, "There's a difference between this and the $3-$4 one I got at Walmart, this product isn't greasy at all," while another says, "It's the best detangler on the market."

Pros: Leave-in spray is convenient to use, detangles hair easily, eco-friendly, suitable for many hair types

Cons: Scent not for everyone, more expensive than other detanglers

The best 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner

The Fresh Monster 2-in-1 Shampoo & Conditioner is a wallet- and kid-friendly choice that adds moisture back to dry hair.

With a name like Fresh Monster, you can't go wrong. At least that's what my son thought when he saw the multi-eyed monster on the label. Right away, it sends a message that soaping up is fun — something this mom needs to make bathtime less of a daily struggle.

But don't think it's all fun and games when it comes to Fresh Monster. The 2-1 formula makes bathtime faster and more convenient for parents and kids alike. Some kids don't enjoy bath time, so you need a streamlined product to make the experience as painless as possible. It's also cost-effective as you're getting two products for the price of one.

The 2-in-1 bottle features a re-closable pump that lets older toddlers feel like they're washing their own hair too. I've found that it makes bathtime less of a struggle for kids who always resist, like my own.

One verified Amazon shopper says, "This product was perfect. It definitely is a kid-friendly all in one option that works great for most hair types."

Fresh Monster 2-in-1 comes in a coconut orwatermelon scent. Or if you prefer astandalone kids conditioner, they have a strawberry smoothie option. Plus, a spraydetangling leave-in for unruly hair.

Pros: 2-in-1 formula, convenient, affordable, smells great, kid-friendly

Cons: Not completely natural

Credit card late fees are costing Americans more than $3 billion, but it's easy to avoid them

credit card statement

  • According to a report by NerdWallet, more than a quarter of Americans have made a late credit card payment. The report also found that delinquent credit card payments have increased 22% in the last four years.
  • Based on NerdWallet's analysis, those late payments amount to more than $3 billion in fees — not including interest charges from carrying a credit card balance.
  • Beyond costing you money, late credit card payments can lead to higher interest rates and can lower your credit score.
  • There are several ways to avoid credit card late fees, from enrolling in auto payments to choosing a credit card with no late fees to using a service like Mint to keep track of payment dates.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

A recent report by NerdWallet found that 26% of Americans have made a late credit card payment (30 days late or more) in 2019. By NerdWallet's calculations, that amounts to more than $3 billion in late fees alone. The report also found that delinquent credit card payments increased 22% from 2015 to 2019.

Even with the best of intentions, it's easy to miss a credit card payment date — especially if you have several credit cards or are simply busy. You could also be charged a late fee even if you're fully aware of the credit card payment due date but aren't able to make the minimum payment amount.

But beyond costing you money in the form of late fees, late credit card payments can have adverse effects on your financial health.

What happens when you make a late credit card payment

When you don't submit a payment by your credit card bill due date, the following things can happen:

  • You'll be charged a late fee. This is a maximum of $25 for your first late payment, and up to $35 if you've had a late payment previously.
  • You'll be charged interest on your outstanding balance, and your interest rate may increase. If you pay your credit card bill late, you could see a significant increase in your interest rate, meaning you'll pay even more on your outstanding balance.
  • Your credit score could take a hit. Payment history accounts for 35% of your credit score, so if your late payment is reported you could see this number decrease.
  • It could be added to your credit report. A late payment could also end up on your credit report and stay there for seven years. Your credit score and credit report are important snapshots of your financial health and your creditworthiness to potential lenders, so having any negative marks could come into play if you're looking to open new credit cards, get a mortgage, or more.

A late credit card payment is obviously a ding on your financial record, but no matter why you ended up with a delinquent payment in the first place, there are ways to avoid this happening.

How to avoid credit card late fees

Set up auto pay

If you know you have enough funds in your bank account to cover your credit card payments, setting up auto pay is a surefire way to avoid missing a credit card payment.

Call and ask for a one-time exception if it's your first late payment

If you haven't missed a credit card payment before, the odds are good that the issuer will waive the fee if you call in and ask. I've had luck getting a late fee waived when I forgot to make a credit card payment on an account I rarely used. The sooner you call in, the more likely you are to have luck getting the fee waived — and remember to make the credit card payment immediately, too.

Set payment reminders or use a budget tracker

Most credit card issuers will send you emails to alert you to upcoming payment due dates, but you can take your own steps to ensure you don't miss a credit card payment due date. Set your own payment reminders on your calendar or phone, and consider using a service like Mint from Intuit, which tracks your spending and payment dates across cards.

If you need to carry a balance, use a credit card with a 0% APR offer

In an ideal world, you'd never need to carry a credit card balance, but if part of the reason you're getting hit with credit card late fees is that you're not able to make the minimum payment or statement balance payment, a credit card with a 0% introductory APR offer can help you get back on your feet.

For example, the Citi Simplicity Card doesn't charge late fees, and it has a 0% intro APR on balance transfers for 21 months plus 0% intro APR on purchases for 12 months. There's also the Discover it® Cash Back card, which has no late fee for your first late payment and a 0% intro APR offer on purchases and balance transfers for the first 14 months. And the soon-to-be-released Apple Card will waive late fees altogether.

With these credit cards and any other cards you use, just remember that 0% intro APR and no-late-fee offers should be used to help you pay off and consolidate credit card debt. If you still carry a large balance by the time the introductory period ends, you'll be back to incurring high interest rates.

How to lock any note on your iPhone, and hide notes behind a password or Face ID

$
0

note 3

  • You can lock the notes in your iPhone's Notes app with password protection to keep them private.
  • To lock a note, you need to add a lock to the file using the Notes app's Share button.
  • Once a note has a lock, you can choose to hide it behind a password, Touch ID, or Face ID, or unhide it and keep it readily available.
  • All notes lock and unlock in unison, and use the same master password, which can be different from your iPhone's password.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

Notes are a convenient way to collect information. You can record passwords, reminders, medical information — anything you might need to jot down on the go and reference again later.

But if you use the iPhone's Notes app for personal or sensitive information, you might want to protect the information by locking notes with a password, Touch ID, or Face ID.

It's easy to lock your iPhone's notes, but the lock feature is a little confusing, and might not work the way you expect it to. Here is what you need to know:

  • Before you can lock a note, you need to create a master password. You can't give every note its own unique password.
  • Just adding a password won't lock the note — you need to take the second step of hiding the note.
  • All notes with locks are locked or unlocked together. You can't have some hidden and some unhidden notes with locks.
  • If you create a new note, it won't have its own lock unless you add it. That means you can have notes with locks (which are either hidden or unhidden) and notes that don't have locks on them at all.
  • When you view a locked note, all the locked notes become unhidden, so you will need to rehide them when you're done.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

iPhone Xs (From $999 at Best Buy)

How to lock and hide your notes on iPhone

Before you can lock your notes, you need to enable the lock in the Notes app first. This is simply a matter of creating a master password.

1. Start the Notes app.

2. Tap on one of the notes to open it.

3. Tap the Share button at the top right of the screen.

4. In the pop-up, tap "Lock Note," which has a padlock icon and should appear in the second row of icons.

note 1

5. Enter a password (and repeat it on the Verify line). If you want to, you can also type a password hint as a reminder. If you want to unlock notes using Touch ID or Face ID, leave the button turned on — otherwise swipe it to the left.

6. Tap "Done."

7. The lock has now been added to this note, though it's not yet hidden. To hide this note, tap the new lock icon at the top of the screen.

note 2

8. The contents will now be hidden, and you'll see a message that says "This note is locked."

note 3

How to lock additional notes in the Notes app

After setting the master password, you can lock other notes at any time:

1. Start the Notes app. The lock icon next to every note's name indicates which notes have locks.

2. Tap a note that doesn't have a lock.

3. Tap the Share button at the top right of the screen.

4. In the pop-up, tap "Lock Note." It may ask you to enter your locking password.

5. After a moment, the lock button will appear at the top of the screen. To hide it, tap the button. Remember that if you hide any note, all the notes with locks will be hidden.

How to view a locked note in the Notes app

1. Start the Notes app.

2. Tap the note you want to view. If it's hidden, you'll see a screen that says the note is locked. Tap "View Note."

3. If you have Touch ID or Face ID enabled, unlock the note that way. Otherwise, enter the master password.

4. When you view a hidden note, this unhides all the notes, so you will need to hide the note again when you are done if you want to continue to keep it private.

The 50-mile long peninsula is full of natural features — green hills, rocky boulders, olive groves, unspoiled beaches, and ravines.

Poor road access and distance from airports have left much of the peninsula pristine. Most tourists visit via cruise ship, and Turks living in inland cities own second homes there.

Datça town is the main settlement on the southern side of the peninsula. Not built for tourists, it's been described as peaceful with quaint villages and unspoiled land.

İskele Mahallesi (Pier Neighborhood) is the city center, comprised of a dozen different neighborhoods. Here, there are plenty of cafés, restaurants, and shops by local artists.

The city center is also home to Datça's port, which boasts endless views of the mountains and the sea.

Datça has access to many beaches. One of the most well-known is Palamubükü, a 1.5 mile cove with turquoise waters, trees, and family-run restaurants.

Above the town in the hills is Old Datça. While essentially abandoned nearly 40 years ago, it's recently seen a revival.

It's known for its many stone houses laden with bougainvillea bushes, particularly because Turkish poet Can Yücel previously lived there. Some of the houses are now boutique hotels for visitors.

At the end of the peninsula is the Ancient Greek settlement of Knidos. The harbor was a shipping center in 4th century BC; today, it's rife with beautiful ruins.

the crown netflix review

Netflix's library of original content has grown exponentially since it released its first big show, "House of Cards," in 2013. With so many drama series on the service, however, it can be hard to keep up with which shows are worth watching.

To create a cheat sheet for you, we turned to review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes to rank all of Netflix's original drama series by their composite critical ratings. The shows had to have at least one season designated "Fresh" or "Rotten," to ensure they had a high enough number of reviews. We excluded shows that were continuations from other networks, like Channel 4's "Black Mirror."

Here are Netflix's original drama shows, ranked by their Rotten Tomatoes critic score from lowest to highest (if there was a tie, we used the audience score to break it.

Apple iPhone Safari

Pop-ups are common annoyances on the web. In addition to pop-up ads, there are also pop-up windows that ask you to subscribe to newsletters or sign up for other site services.

While there are some legitimate uses for pop-ups, most of the ones you'll encounter online are ads, spam, or just annoying.

Thankfully, your iPhone includes pop-up blocking technology that can stop most pop-ups before you see them.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

iPhone Xs (From $999.99 at Best Buy)

How to stop pop-ups on your iPhone using its built-in pop-up blocker

The iPhone's pop-up blocker should be on by default, but it's possible you have, at some point, disabled it. Here's how to make sure you are blocking pop-ups on your iPhone.

1. Start the Settings app.

2. Tap "Safari."

3. In the General section, turn on "Block Pop-ups" by swiping the switch to the right.

blocker 1

How to stop pop-ups on an iPhone in other ways

The pop-up blocker should eliminate virtually all pop-ups on your phone, but if you still have trouble, you might need to clear your iPhone's cache to flush out a problem with the browser. Here's how to do that:

1. Open the Settings app and tap "Safari."

2. Tap "Clear History and Website Data."

blocker 2

3. Confirm your choice by tapping "Clear History and Data" in the pop-up window.

You might also consider using a content blocker. Content blockers prevent ads from displaying on web pages.

There are a number of content blockers available in the App Store (you can search for "content blockers" or "ad blockers"). You can manage your installed ad blockers in the Safari section of the Settings app, by tapping "Content Blockers."

How to delete, edit, or add a calendar on your iPhone's Calendar app

$

icloud iphone calendar

If you're a busy person with a lot going on, or you're just generally forgetful when it comes to birthdays, holidays, or other memorable dates, keeping track of your events in a calendar can be a massive help.

The calendar on your iPhone is a great alternative to paper calendars, especially since it allows you to sync several different ones—say a work calendar and a personal one—on one device.

But what about when you want to get rid of one?

Deleting a calendar on your iPhone is simple and only takes a few taps. Once you remove it, the calendar will no longer be synced to your iPhone.

Here's how to do it in just a few simple steps.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

iPhone Xs (From $999.99 at Best Buy)

How to delete a calendar on your iPhone

1. On your iPhone's home screen, locate the Calendar app and tap to open it.

2. At the bottom of your screen, tap the Calendars button to display the calendars currently synced to the app.

3. Locate the calendar you wish to delete and tap the info button to the right of it. This will allow you to edit the calendar.

4. On the Edit Calendar page, scroll down to the very bottom of the screen until you see the Delete Calendar button. Tap to delete.

IMG_7973.PNG

5. A message will appear asking you to confirm your intention to delete the calendar in question and letting you know that all events associated with the calendar will also be deleted. Click Delete Calendar again to fully delete.

While deleting a calendar is easy, adding a new one is just as simple.

How to add a new calendar on your iPhone

1. Tap the Calendar app on your iPhone's home screen to open, then tap Add Calendar at the lower left-hand side of your screen.

2. On the next screen, give your calendar a name by typing your choice in the Calendar Name line at the top of the screen. Note that you can also select a color to associate with the calendar. Simply tap on your choice.

3. Tap Done in the upper right-hand corner of your screen when finished. Your calendar will be created and will appear in your list of active calendars. You can edit or delete this calendar at any time.

How to repost an Instagram Story that you've been tagged in to your own Story

instagram direct private message phone

  • Reposting an Instagram Story that you're tagged in is a feature that's built into the Instagram app, making it super quick and easy to do.
  • Despite this fact, however, it's always a good idea to get permission to repost from the original poster, since it's their intellectual property.
  • Reposting allows you to treat the original Instagram Story as if it were your own, and you can decide how to share it, and who sees it.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

When you're tagged in an Instagram story, you may want to share that story with your own followers, and Instagram allows you to do just that.

However, you may want to ask for permission from the original poster to repost it, as per Instagram'scommunity guidelines. Although, it's worth noting that the original poster will get a notification when they tag you stating that you'll be able to repost it.

Luckily, Instagram makes it easy to repost Instagram stories that you're tagged in. You can do so straight from the app, on both iPhone and Android.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

iPhone Xs (From $999 at Best Buy)

Google Pixel 3 (From $699.99 at Best Buy)

How to repost an Instagram story

If you tap the push notification that occurs when someone tags you in a story, you can skip ahead to step three. (Either way, however, keep in mind that reposting is only available for 24 hours, since stories disappear after that timeframe.)

Here's how to repost an Instagram story you've been tagged in:

1. Open Instagram and toggle over to the messages section (located in the top-right corner of the screen) — it looks like a paper airplane icon.

1 HOW TO REPOST INSTAGRAM STORY

2. Tap to open the messages between yourself and whoever tagged you in their Instagram story — you should see a notification that says, "@theirusername has mentioned you in their story."

3. Under that notification, tap "Add this to your story" — this will bring you to the story editor.

2 HOW TO REPOST INSTAGRAM STORY

4. Edit the repost as you see fit and tap "Next."

5. Choose how to post it — as part of your own Story, to those designated as "Close Friends," to other people, or some combination of all of these — by clicking "Share" or "Send."

iPhone XS Max

The iPhone's vibration feature alerts you to incoming texts, emails, or phone calls with a vibrating sensation, rather than a ringtone that plays aloud.

But how do you turn off vibration when you no longer want to use it?

If you don't want your iPhone to vibrate when receiving calls or messages, disabling the feature only takes a few seconds and can be reenabled at any time should you wish to use it again in the future.

3. Under vibrate, you'll see options to Vibrate on Ring and Vibrate on Silent. If the feature is enabled, the button to the right of each will appear green. You can disable them by tapping to move the lever and turn it white again.

Should you wish to turn vibrate on again, simply follow steps one and two below, but instead of turning the sliding buttons beside each vibration open white, ensure one or both is turned green.

This means vibration is enabled and will occur whenever your phone receives a call or message.

YouTube Soph channel ban deleted

  • YouTube has terminated the account of a 14-year-old conservative YouTuber with nearly 1 million followers who goes by "Soph."
  • The channel was terminated after her latest video, which was full of anti-LGBTQ rhetoric, was flagged for violating the platform's hate-speech policies, YouTube said.
  • This was Soph's third violation of YouTube's community guidelines in 90 days, which under YouTube's three-strike policy results in a channel being permanently deleted.
  • After her channel was terminated, Soph tweeted an image of herself holding what looked like a gun and the caption, "youtube headquarters here I come," according to Buzzfeed.
  • She later deleted the tweet and said it was a joke.

A 14-year-old far-right YouTuber with nearly 1 million followers has been kicked off the platform for violating its hate-speech policies in a video calling the LGBTQ community pedophiles.

YouTube on Thursday terminated the channel belonging to the conservative personality, who goes only by "Soph." She's known in the far-right movement for her simple videos filmed in front of a green screen, in which what she says to the camera is often laced with derogatory and hate-fueled attacks on Muslims, immigrants, and liberals.

Her most recent video was called "Pride & Prejudice" and contained 13 minutes of Soph criticizing the LGBTQ community and Pride Month, which she referred to as "30 days of AIDS-carrying pedophile victims patting themselves on the back for their lifestyles."

The video also included an intro where Soph advertised her merchandise and directed viewers to "make sure to blame me in your manifestos." Soph was likely referencing the hate-speech-filled manifestos that have been found online, including the one published on the messaging board 8chan by the suspect in the El Paso, Texas, mass shooting over the weekend.

Soon after the video was posted July 31, Soph's account was terminated for violating community guidelines related to hate speech, YouTube said in a statement to Business Insider. While the video itself wouldn't be enough for YouTube to take down a channel, the policy violation was Soph's third one in 90 days. Under YouTube's three-strike policy, any channel that violates community guidelines three times within a same 90-day period will be permanently removed from the platform.

Following Soph's channel termination on Thursday, the 14-year-old took to Twitter in response. She tweeted out a picture of her holding what looks like a gun, with a caption reading, "youtube headquarters here I come," according to BuzzFeed News. However, the tweet has since been deleted, and Soph has since tweeted, "gun tweet obviously a joke."

This isn't the first time that Soph has appeared to threaten YouTube. In a video from earlier this year, Soph threatened to kill YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, saying she was "coming for you, and it ain't gonna be pretty." Her YouTube channel was demonetized, and the video in question was taken down, but Soph's channel remained.

Although Soph's videos have been removed from YouTube, she also publishes her videos on an alternative video-sharing platform called BitChute.

"Personally, less viewers is no biggie. youtube is the fast food of media, it thrives off of convenience, not the quality of its service," Soph wrote on Twitter, "but if it upsets you because you want my ideas to be broadcasted as much as possible, send complaint emails, do what you have to." Business Insider has reached out to Soph for additional comment.

Since her YouTube account was terminated, Soph's crowdfunding page on Patreon has been taken down as well.

YouTube has been slammed for its conservative reaction to incidents of hate speech on the platform. In June, YouTube was widely criticized for failing to take action against a right-wing YouTuber who used racist and homophobic language in attacking a Vox journalist.

Nevertheless, YouTube announced new plans in June to crack down on extremist videos "alleging that a group is superior in order to justify discrimination, segregation or exclusion."
