  • You can listen to Podcasts on your Mac using the Podcasts app released in macOS Catalina.
  • The Podcasts app makes it easy to find, subscribe, and listen to podcasts on your Mac computer.
  • If you have podcast subscriptions on other Apple devices, they will show up on your Mac too, as long as you sign in with the same Apple ID.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

If you recently updated your Mac operating system to the newest version, Catalina, you might have noticed a new icon in your menu bar.

Before Catalina, you could access podcasts through iTunes. Now, Apple has added a podcast app to Macs that works much the same way as the Podcasts app on other Apple devices — it even has the same icon. Here's how to use it.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

How to listen to podcasts on your Mac

Find podcasts

If you subscribe to podcasts through the Podcasts app on another Apple device, and you're signed into your Mac with the same Apple ID as that device, your full podcast library is already available in the new Podcasts app on your Mac.

Better yet, if you start listening to a podcast episode and stop, the app will keep your place across all devices. So, you can start listening to a podcast on your Mac, and continue right where you left off on your iPhone or iPad, and vice versa.

Here's how to find podcasts in the Mac Podcasts app.

1. First of all, make sure that you have macOS Catalina. If you don't know how to check that, see our article, "How to check which version of macOS your Mac computer is running in 3 simple steps."

2. Open the Podcasts app. It looks like a purple box with a white "i" and two circles in the middle. If you can't find it in your menu bar, search for it using the magnifying glass icon at the top-right of your screen.

3. Click on "Listen Now" in the sidebar menu on the left to see the podcasts you already subscribe to.

4. Choose "Episodes" from the sidebar to view a list of unplayed episodes from your subscriptions, from newest to oldest.

5. Click on "Browse" in the sidebar to view a selection of podcasts you might want to listen to.

6. The "Top Charts" tab in the sidebar lets you see what podcasts are popular right now.

How to listen to podcasts on Mac

7. You can search for a podcast by typing in the search field at the top of the sidebar. Once the name of the podcast you want appears in the window to the right, click on it.

8. If you want to subscribe to a podcast, click on the blue "+Subscribe" button to the right of the window near the "Play Episode" button.

How to listen to podcasts on Mac

9. You can also download individual episodes by clicking the plus button next to their name and description.

10. To unsubscribe from a podcast, click on the three blue dots next to "Subscribed." This opens a menu where you can select "Unsubscribe" from a list.

How to listen to podcasts on Mac

When you do a search, you can use the button in the upper-right of the window to toggle your search results between "All Podcasts" available through the app and "My Library", which is just your own downloaded podcasts.

Listen to your podcasts

1. To listen to a podcast, simply select the podcast you want from your library or the store and click on the blue "Play Episode" button.

2. You can also click on the arrow next to an episode in the list of episodes, or on the podcast cover icon. The button will change to "Playing" while you're listening to an episode. You can click the button again to pause the podcast and it will change to "Resume Episode."

How to listen to podcasts on Mac

3. In addition, the controls in the bar at the top of the window show you the most recently played or currently playing podcast episode. You can use these controls to adjust the volume, pause, resume, and jump forward or backward in an episode.

4. Click on the icon next that looks like three stacked lines at the top-right of the Podcasts window to see "Up Next," a list of the podcasts that will play next in your feed. Click the icon a second time to hide "Up Next."

How to delete podcasts in the Mac Podcasts app

Podcasts do take up space on your hard drive, so you may want to delete episodes or even whole podcasts from your library from time to time.

The Podcasts app will automatically delete episodes after you listen to the whole thing. If you stop short, however, your library can get full quickly.

1. To delete a single podcast, click on the three blue dots next to the episode description in your library. From the menu that pops up, choose "Remove."

How to listen to podcasts on Mac

2. To delete all the episodes of a single podcast, click "Shows" in the sidebar, click the three dots on the cover of said podcast, and select "Delete from Library" from the pop-up menu.

  • Sheet masks are the latest Korean beauty craze to take the world by storm.
  • They offer a super-easy, speedy way to give your skin some extra love without having to leave home.
  • For the ultimate post-facial glow in an instant, the SK-II Facial Treatment mask is the best sheet mask you can buy.
  • You can also check out our guide to the best moisturizers.

Sheet masks act like flash facials to provide an instant fix for your skin andaddress all sorts of concerns. Despite the fact sheet masks make you look terrifying temporarily, they have reached cult status among celebrities, dermatologists, and beauty junkies alike. Instagram is filled with people snapping scary sheet mask selfies (check out Victoria Beckham's account).

So what's so amazing about this K-beauty trend? The reason for our sheet mask obsession is that they are the easiest and fastest way to give your skin some extra attention without having to go to a spa. These masks are made from cotton, paper, or gel and saturated with concentrated ingredients that penetrate deep into your skin for plumper, more radiant complexions. You see results in just 10-15 minutes and unlike traditional masks, they are super-easy to remove. However, in our testing, we did discover that many sheet masks didn't produce any visible results, so you have to do your research before you buy your first mask.

As well as being renowned for their incredible hydrating properties, sheet masks treat different skin concerns, from soothing sensitive skin to brightening dull complexions. Some are great for a pre-night out boost, while others work better if you wear them before you go to bed, so the serum can soak in and you can wake up with glowing skin. Most experts are now using sheet masks as part of their daily skincare routine.

With the incredible number of sheet masks on the market, working out which one is right for you can be a minefield. As well as researching thousands of reviews from beauty experts and buyers, we've tried and tested all sorts of sheet masks, from super cheap to super expensive, to come up with our top picks.

Here the best sheet masks:

The best sheet mask overall

Japanese brand SK-II's face mask is a cult classic because it visibly hydrates, brightens, and firms your skin.

The SK-II Facial Treatment Mask is an all-in one-sheet mask that does everything you need for a glowing, gorgeous complexion. Beauty editors, bloggers, and celebrities such as Cate Blanchett are obsessed, and so are we.

The sheet is soaked with SK-II's signature serum Pitera. Discovered in a sake brewery back in the '70s, this liquid is packed with naturally-derived vitamins, amino acids, and minerals. It is designed to refine texture and address uneven skin tone, dryness, large pores, and oiliness. SK-II suggests you use a mask once or twice a week or before a special event.

The SK-II Facial Treatment Mask lived up to the hype in our testing. It made my skin look more radiant instantly, and my skin felt tighter and softer. The mask fit well and stayed put, although it felt a bit slimy. Granted, most face masks feel a bit slimy because it's the slime that fixes your skin.

The SK-II sheet mask gets rave reviews from buyers and experts alike, including Rank and Style. Elle's Executive Beauty Editor also says it's one of her top five favorite beauty products, and buyers on Sephora give it great reviews, too.  — Janine Clements

Pros: Hydrates, brightens, firms, good for all skin types, fragrance free, not tested on animals

Cons: Expensive

For an easy, fast path to radiant skin, Erno Laszlo's Lighten & Brighten Hydrogel Mask should be your go-to sheet mask.

The Lighten & Brighten White Marble Hydrogel Mask from renowned skincare brand Erno Laszlo is designed to instantly brighten skin and reduce the appearance of dark spots and aging. The serum is made up of allotonin to plump up the skin, essential oils including peony and chamomile to moisturize, and sunflower seed oil to protect against wrinkles.

We're obsessed with Erno Laszlo's range of sheet masks, and this one is awesome. Each sheet mask comes in two pieces of gel-like material. It felt a bit slippery and strange, but it was easy to apply. I liked that it didn't or slip off my face so I could walk around while the mask did its work.

The mask has a very light, clean smell, unlike some sheet masks that smell a bit weird. After I took it off, my skin looked way less tired and had a visible dewy sheen. This is a perfect pre-night out treatment.

Beauty bloggers and buyers agree, giving this mask consistently high ratings. The experts at Conde Nast Traveller included the Lighten & Brighten Hydrogel Mask on a list of top hand luggage beauty essentials.   — Janine Clements

Expert reviewers at Rank and Style and Allure rate this mask very highly. Buyers at Sephora give it an average rating of 4.6 out of 5. The Tatcha Luminous Deep Hydration Lifting Masksmelled deliciousand it stuck to my skin better than most of the paper ones. The best women's sunglasses

The best womens sunglasses

  • Sunglasses double as a fun fashion statement and protective eyewear.
  • You could just get a cheap pair that'll break in a week, or you could go all in on a nice pair of sunglasses that will last for years if not decades.
  • Our favorite pair of sunglasses for women are the Under Armour Road Getaway Sunglasses because they have a classic look and a sturdy build.

Summer's just around the corner, which means it's time to bare your shoulders and your legs, but not your eyes. Even as you let the rest of your body soak up the sun, you'll want to be sure that the windows to your souls remain closely guarded, and that means buying a great pair of sunglasses for the sunny days to come.

Before you decide that the $5 pair of shades you found in the street stall will serve your purposes, you'll want to do a little bit more research about what it really takes to protect your eyes and help you look great all summer. While you don't have to spend a fortune in order to get quality sunglasses that provide adequate protection from the bright rays of the warmer seasons, you'll want to ensure that the glasses you ultimately select not only serve a fashionable purpose but a functional one as well. To that end, select shades with UV protection so that you can spend long summer days in the out of doors without worrying about damaging your retina.

You'll also want to get sunglasses that can withstand your fun in the sun. Be sure to select lenses that are scratch resistant. After all, you won't be able to see out of your protective eyewear if they're totally marred by evidence of all the good times you're having.

And unless you plan on buying a new pair of sunglasses every season (not that there's anything wrong with that), it'll probably behoove you to choose styles that are fun, yet timeless. While this isn't to say that you should shy away from new aesthetics, it will also be beneficial to have a pair of sunglasses that you'll love and use forever. The sun will always be there, after all.

Regardless of which of our favorite women's sunglasses you select, we're confident that your eyes will be well taken care of, and that you'll be in vogue all season long. You can also check out our top picks for the best men's sunglasses.

Under Armour's Road Getaway Sunglasses help you see clearly and stay in place no matter what you're doing, all while being decidedly chic.

The best thing about buying sunglasses from a company dedicated to athletes? You know that these shades were built to perform. While Under Armour manufactures plenty of protective eyewear for fun in the sun, my favorite pair is undoubtedly the brand's new Road Getaway Sunglasses.

Whether you're engaging in a competitive game of beach volleyball or just lazily throwing around a ball on the beach, these newest Getaways keep your eyes safe while keeping you in vogue. The new Under Armour Tuned Road lenses offer contrast enhancement, which helps you see your surroundings more clearly even in the brightest of days.

The classic aviator frames are flattering on just about any face shape, but more importantly, the shades will keep your eyes shielded from 100% of the sun's harmful UVA/B/C rays. The lenses feature "multiflection" coatings, which means that even if you take a tumble on the sand or any other surface, you'll be guarded against scratches and smudges. Plus, the coating protects against intense sunlight, which means that you can wear these quite literally all day long.

Of course, if you're planning on keeping a pair of glasses on your face for hours on end, you'll need to make sure they're comfortable. While I often struggle with glasses staying on my nose (life can be so hard), this isn't the case with the Getaways. Because these shades come with an adjustable nosepad, you can effectively customize the fit of your shades, and make sure that they're resting comfortably all the livelong day.

Should you need to loan these sunglasses to a friend, she'll be able to adjust the glasses to her specifications as well. The arms of these shades are also quite flexible, so I've never had an issue with feeling as though the sidings were digging into my face.

All of Under Armour's products are clearly meant for performance, and its sunglasses are no exception to this rule. The Road Getaway sunglasses will keep you sharp no matter what summer or winter activity you may find yourself engaged in.

Pros: UA Tuned Road lenses provide great contrast enhancement, flattering frames, good sun ray protection, unisex

Cons: Adjusting the frames to get the perfect fit may take a little bit of trial and error

The best affordable sunglasses

MVMT offers a wide range of stylish, protective, and wallet-friendly sunglasses that will keep you in style and on budget.

You may know MVMT best for its line of simple yet sleek watches, but the brand has since taken its popular aesthetic to another accessory — sunglasses. MVMT began making sunglasses for the masses in 2016 and hasn't stopped since with its huge selection of creative and stylish lenses that are as varied as your moods.

The sunglasses themselves range in price from $60 to $90, though if you elect to add the polarized lens option, you could be looking at a top price of $105. Still, that's quite a reasonable price to be paying for sunglasses that look as though they could walk out of any designer shop without suffering from any sort of imposter syndrome.

Many of MVMT's sunglasses reflect the brand's commitment to timeless, classic pieces, like the Runaway shades — a simple aviator style with dark lenses. But the brand also offers up a few shades that are a bit more daring, like the Savage, a rectangular frame that comes with frames in a bronze gradient; or the Icon, a pair of sunglasses that look like they stepped right out of another decade, but somehow look fresh and original.

And best of all, if you're looking to recreate, say, the Dior So Real sunglasses look for about a quarter of the price, MVMT can help with Nightowl sunglasses. For $80, you can get a similar aesthetic in unique color schemes like Fuchsia Havana/Mauve Rose Gradient, or Clear/Silver Mirror Lenses.

With such a wide and varied set of options, the biggest challenge you're likely to face is narrowing down your selection to just a single pair of sunglasses.

Pros: Affordable, huge range, flirty frames, polarized lenses available, comfortable for all-day wear

Cons: Some buyers have complained that the nose pieces aren't particularly reliable or adjustable

The best prescription sunglasses

You may know Warby Parker best for its direct-to-consumer prescription glasses, but the brand also makes killer prescription sunglasses.

Warby Parker has been making affordable eyewear since 2010, with most of its extensive collection setting customers back just $95. That's a reasonable price for any pair of shades, and if you want to add a prescription to those frames, you'll pay somewhere between $80 and $280 more, depending on the type of prescription.

When you shop at Warby Parker, you're able to place orders for up to five pairs of sunglasses (or regular glasses) in your cart and get them delivered to your doorstep so that you can try them out in the comfort of your own home. Shipping is free, and you'll have five days to decide which pair (or pairs) suit you best. Just send the samples back when you're done and order your prescription lenses for the pair(s) of your choosing.

All of Warby Parker's sunglasses feature anti-scratch and anti-glare coatings at no extra cost, which certainly will help you keep the sun at bay. I'm a particular fan of the Tilley, which incorporates just the right amount of retro chic into its aesthetic.

If you're not entirely sure of which sunglasses are best for you, Warby Parker has an online quiz that can help you figure out what sunglass shape works best with your visage. You'll answer questions about how you prefer your fit, what colors you like, and what materials you want to see in your frames.

Once you've gone through the questionnaire, Warby will recommend the frames that are most likely to tickle your fancy, and you can get them delivered.

If you're looking for a way to give back to your community through commerce, Warby Parker can help with its "Buy a Pair, Give a Pair" pledge. Just as the name suggests, with this program, Warby Parker will donate a pair of glasses to someone in need with every purchase of a pair of prescription glasses or sunglasses.

Pros: Affordable, online quiz helps determine the best frames for your face, free anti-glare and anti-scratch coatings

Cons: Prescription sunglasses may be costly depending on the severity of prescription (but they're still affordable when compared to other options)

The best classic sunglasses

Ray-Ban's Clubmaster sunglasses are an American classic, plus, you can customize them to make these shades your own.

Although Ray-Ban's Wayfarers may be more popular, the Clubmaster sunglasses are a great, classic pair of sunglasses that you can customize to suit your style. The mid-century design has a distinctive browline frame with round, metal-rimmed lenses for a retro aesthetic that looks amazing on everyone.

Over the years, Ray-Ban's Clubmasters have graced the faces of many celebrities, artists, and, of course, us normal folk. Both the black or dark mock tortoise frames with gold metal accents offer a simple, classic look, but Ray-Ban offers 14 different colors on its site and the option to customize your glasses to suit your style.

You can get flashy mirrored lenses in many different colors, unique frames, and even prescription lenses, though those will add to the price. Like other Ray-Ban shades, the Clubmasters are crafted with glass lenses and sturdy acetate frames, so they're well worth the money and should last a lifetime.

Guides editor Malarie Gokey actually has a pair of these as regular prescription glasses, which she wears quite frequently. She can attest to their great build quality, comfortable fit for all-day wear, and stylish appeal.

Pros: Quality construction, glass lenses with a durable metal and acetate frame, 1950s style, customizable

Cons: This style is currently not made in Italy

The best premium sunglasses

Sometimes, a single accessory is all it takes to make you feel like a million bucks, and the Dior So Real sunglasses are capable of doing just that.

If there's ever a time to be just a little bit extra, it's the summer. And what better way to show off your ostentatious side than by donning a pair of sunglasses that are known to grace the faces of stars like Rihanna, Bella Hadid, and Kylie Jenner? Meet the Dior So Real sunglasses. They're so expensive, but oh so worth it.

I managed to get my hands on a pair a couple years ago when I forgot that my FSA money was expiring (pro tip: use your FSA funds to buy designer sunglasses, and you'll love yourself forever). Every time I throw them on, I feel a new bounce in my step. Am I being a bit silly? Sure. But am I at all sorry? Nope.

We really haveRihanna to thank for bringing the So Real trend to the streets of Hollywood, New York, and every in between. The songstress wore a mirrored pair of the shades at Dior's 2014 fall show in Paris, and ever since, they've been the eyewear of choice of the fashion forward. Part of the appeal, of course, lies in the unique shape of the lens itself. And then there's the mirrored aspect of the frames, which are great for shielding your eyes from the paparazzi (or just from the sun).

But aside from being great to look at, the Dior So Real sunglasses really are great to look through as well. The shades offer 100% UV protection, and while I sometimes feel as though I have to squint even from behind my sunglasses, this is never the case with the Dior frames.

The So Real sunglasses also provide excellent coverage, thanks to the unique shape and their relatively close fit, you won't find a ton of UV rays streaming in from every which direction. Because the lenses are mirrored, you'll reflect a lot of the light that might otherwise harm your eyes.

Happy customers have noted that "These Diors...are absolutely stunning. Perfect fit, excellent quality." And while they tend to sell out quickly, don't be afraid to check back frequently on your favorite online shopping destination.

Pros: Unique frames, beautiful, well-made design, excellent coverage, 100% UV protection

Cons: At $495, luxury comes at a high price

Kanye West just released his new album. Here's how the highest-paid hip-hop artist of 2019 brought in $150 million this year — and how he spends his fortune.

Kanye West has surpassed Jay-Z to become the highest-paid person in hip-hop, Forbes reported.

West, who released his widely anticipated album, "Jesus is King," on October 25, has made an estimated $150 million in 2019 — almost double Jay-Z's $81 million, according to Forbes. The publication looked at pretax income from June 2018 to June 2019 before deducting fees for agents, managers, and lawyers.

But the majority of West's fortune doesn't come from his music, Forbes reported. His footwear and apparel brand, Yeezy, is expected to bring in more than $1.5 billion in sales in 2019.

Here's a look at how West has built and spends his multimillion-dollar fortune.

Kanye West is officially the highest-paid person in hip-hop, according to Forbes. The rapper raked in an estimated $150 million in 2019.

The publication looked at pretax income from June 2018 to June 2019 before deducting fees for agents, managers, and lawyers.

West is now worth about five times more than he was in 2014

For the first time, West surpassed Jay-Z as the highest-paid person in hip-hop.

Jay-Z made an estimated $81 million in 2019. Drake is the third highest-paid hip-hop artist, with $75 million in pretax earnings.

Most of West's fortune didn't come from his music, according to Forbes. He makes the majority of his money from his footwear and apparel brand, Yeezy.

Forbes reported that Yeezy, which sells clothing and sneakers in partnership with Adidas, is expected to top $1.5 billion in sales in 2019.

Yeezy's success has stemmed in part from West's unique marketing strategies.

As Business Insider's Mary Hanbury previously reported, West rolls out new products in limited numbers, which boosts the hype and causes them to sell out quickly. One hour after the Boost 350 sneakers went on sale for $200, for example, they were sold out in stores and online.

And it helps that his equally famous wife, Kim Kardashian West, is among his biggest supporters. In 2018, Kardashian West was at the center of her husband's Yeezy Season 6 campaign, stepping out in public wearing the new collection and being photographed by the press.

West is known for hosting what he calls "Sunday Service," an invitation-only spiritual gathering and performance usually held in Southern California.

During the services, West often sings and raps gospel versions of his own songs accompanied by a large choir.

The get-togethers have reportedly been attended by major celebrities including Brad Pitt, Dave Chappelle, A$AP Rocky, and Katy Perry— and everyone who attends reportedly has to sign a nondisclosure agreement.

Despite his current success, West's personal finance journey has been somewhat tumultuous.

In 2014, he was worth an estimated $30 million, according to Forbes.

But in 2016, he tweeted that he was $53 million in debt and asked Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to invest $1 billion in "Kanye West ideas."

Now, West's net worth is estimated to be somewhere between $240 million and $1 billion.

West and his family live in a palatial $60 million mansion in Hidden Hills, California.

The 15,667-square-foot home sits on three acres with expansive lawns, vineyards, and fountains.

As Insider's Callie Ahlgrim previously reported, the home's interior is minimalist, monochromatic, and includes a flat sink that baffled the internet after it was spotted during Kardashian West's Vogue cover story.

The couple bought the home in 2014 for $20 million and reportedly spent four years and $20 million renovating it before they moved in in 2018. Kardashian West's mother, Kris Jenner, later tweeted that the home was worth $60 million.

Before that, the couple lived in a 9,000-square-foot mansion with six bedrooms and eight bathrooms in Bel Air Crest, a section of the ritzy Bel Air neighborhood.

They sold the home in an off-market deal in 2017 for $17.8 million to Ukrainian billionaire Marina Acton.

It went back on the market in 2018 and sold for $14 million.

The hip-hop artist has dropped millions on real estate around the country. In New York City, his former Soho apartment (bought by West in 2004 and sold in 2018) just went back on the market for $4.7 million.

The 2,427-square-foot, one-bedroom apartment features a home automation system, custom lighting and sound systems, and access to a shared rooftop deck with panoramic views of lower Manhattan, according to CORE Real Estate told Business Insider's Taylor Nicole Rogers.

Days before his one-time Manhattan apartment hit the market, West bought a $14 million ranch in Wyoming.

The massive property includes a restaurant and saloon, a ranch-style event venue, a maintenance shop, an office building, horse barns, sheds, corrals, storage facilities, and a state-of-the-art shooting range.

In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Kardashian West said she envisions their family spending some summers and weekends at the Wyoming ranch.

West also owns 300 acres of land in Calabasas, which neighbors the Hidden Hills gated community that he and his family currently call home.

It's unknown how much he paid for the property.

Most of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, including Kylie Jenner,Kourtney KardashianKhloe Kardashian, Kris Jenner, have homes of their own in Calabasas or Hidden Hills.

Many other notable celebrities have owned homes in the area, from Drake to Justin Bieber to Miley Cyrus.

In a 2018 interview with radio host Charlemagne Tha God, West said he wanted to be "one of the biggest real estate developers of all time, what Howard Hughes was to aircrafts and Henry Ford was to cars…"

The rapper has tried to build a community of "Star Wars"-themed housing for the homeless on his 300-acre property in Calabasas, but in August he was cited by the city after allegedly building several dome-like structures — which he has said are temporary prototypes — without the proper permits.

Some of the structures have since been demolished.

West branched into commercial real estate earlier this year, when it was reported that he would invest $1 million into a historic Chicago theater.

The owner of the Avalon Regal Theater said in February that West had committed to spending $1 million to renovate and reopen the 91-year-old movie theater, The Chicago Sun Times reported.

Earlier this year, West discussed relocating to Chicagowhere he grew up— with his family.

Kardashian West has been spotted carrying a Hermes Birkin bag— which can sell for between $9,000 and $500,000— that was gifted to her by West and painted by her daughter, North.

Kardashian West's 20-carat diamond engagement ring, worth an estimated $4.5 million, is among the most expensive celebrity engagement rings.

That ring was not the ring West proposed with, but an upgrade from the original 15-carat ring.

The 20-carat ring was reportedly stolen when Kardashian West was robbed in Paris in 2016, but the couple had a nearly identical version made to replace it.

In August 2018, West reportedly bought his wife a neon Mercedes truck.

Width: 540px

In a Snapchat story, Kardashian reportedly called the vehicle, which is worth about $240,000,  "the truck of [her] dreams."

That Christmas, West reportedly surprised his wife with a $14 million Miami apartment.

The 4,700-square-foot, four-bedroom South Beach condo has a massive wraparound terrace, floor-to-ceiling windows, and access to a gym, pool, and spa.

For Valentine's Day this year, West filled their living room with long-stemmed roses in individual vases and brought in American saxophonist Kenny G. to serenade Kardashian West.

The hip-hop artist also spends extravagantly on his children.

For Christmas in 2014, West reportedly spent $74,000 on gifts for his firstborn daughter, North, who was 18 months old at the time. The haul included a $62,000 diamond-encrusted tiara and a $12,000 toy replica of his black SUV.

West is also reported to have quite the luxury car collection.

He's been photographed driving several different luxury cars that each cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

According to Auto World News, West has been photographed several times driving an Aston Martin DB9.

That Aston Martin model is worth about $200,000.

He's also been spotted driving a Mercedes McLaren SLR.

Today, a used 2008 Mercedes McLaren SLR sells for about $300,000.

Although the exact extent of West's fortune is unclear, Kardashian West suggested last year that her husband was probably a billionaire.

In a July 2018 interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Kardashian West said it didn't come as a surprise to her when Forbes reported that her younger sister, Kylie Jenner, was almost a billionaire. (Less than a year later, Forbes reported that Jenner had indeed reached billionaire status.)

"You're not almost a billionaire, are you?" Kimmel asked Kardashian West.

"I would say my husband is," Kardashian Jenner said. "So that makes me one, right? Close, by proximity."

Burger King appeared to taunt Chick-fil-A on Friday over Kanye West's new song about the fried-chicken chain.

"Open on Sunday," Burger King tweeted Friday afternoon from its main Twitter account.

Hours earlier, West had released his newest album, "Jesus is King," which features a track called "Closed on Sunday" that references Chick-fil-A by name.

"Closed on Sunday, you my Chick-fil-A," West sings. "You're my number one, with the lemonade. Raise our sons, train them in the faith. Through temptations, make sure they're wide awake."

Chick-fil-A declined to comment on the song to Business Insider's Kate Taylor.

"Closing our business on Sunday, the Lord's Day, is our way of honoring God and showing our loyalty to Him," Chick-fil-A's founder, Truett Cathy, wrote in his book "Eat Mor Chikin: Inspire More People."

The Green New Deal is the perfect retort to trickle-down fear-mongers: Finally, progressives have the game-changing argument that can swing a majority of Americans toward a better future

$

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Green New Deal

  • Jessyn Farrell is the senior vice president at Civic Ventures and co-host of this week's Pitchfork Economics episode.
  • In this opinion piece, she argues that the Green New Deal policy is effective because it directly counters the narrative of trickle-down economics. It promises to create a new economy and jobs, fighting the narrative that climate measures require austerity and cutting back.
  • The plan would stimulate the economy — and spending. It would also directly benefit women and people of color, coupling economic and climate growth with societal change.
  • For more on this topic, listen to the latest episode of Pitchfork Economics.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

The debate is over. Every reasonable person now understands that climate change is a human-made problem and a crisis that must be averted. In some parts of the country, like my home state of Washington, the debate has been over for some time. Our governor, Jay Inslee, heroically inserted climate change as a topic into the Democratic presidential campaign earlier this year, and our voters roundly prefer climate-friendly candidates on the national, statewide, and local levels.

Though all that is true, in 2016 and in 2018 Washington state voters decisively rejected carbon tax initiatives that would have strengthened our environmental credentials. Stranger still, some internal polling indicated that the carbon tax was popular with the electorate before support largely evaporated.

What happened? Why did arguably the most climate-friendly electorate in the US turn its back on positive environmental policy? As soon as Big Oil and other opponents started using the familiar framing of trickle-down economics — warning voters, falsely, that more responsible regulation would result in higher costs for them and fewer jobs for everyone — voters turned on the carbon tax. It's a textbook example of how trickle-down economics coaxes the middle class into voting against its own interests.

Jessyn Farrell

That's why I'm so inspired by the success of the Green New Deal as a policy — it flips the trickle-down narrative on its head. Instead of the tired argument that environmental regulations kill jobs, the Green New Deal promises to create millions of good-paying jobs. Rather than arguing that the fight against climate change will require sacrifice and austerity, the Green New Deal promises a prosperous new clean economy, built from the middle out.

In the latest episode of the Pitchfork Economics podcast, Nick Hanauer and I got to talk with environmental leaders Naomi Klein and J.W. Mason about the success of the Green New Deal as an idea and what it would look like in practice.

Klein has been at the forefront of the environmental conversation for years, and this episode perfectly demonstrates why: she's one of our sharpest and most compelling thinkers on environmental policy. In her latest book, "On Fire," Klein makes an argument for the Green New Deal that helped expand my thinking about what is possible. This passage in particular, is a distillation of her thinking:

When we talk about "green jobs" — and we talk about them a lot — most of us picture a guy in a hard hat putting up a solar array. Sure, that is one kind of green job, and we need lots of them. But there are plenty of other jobs that are already low-carbon. For instance, looking after elderly and sick people doesn't burn a lot of carbon. Making art doesn't burn a lot of carbon. Teaching kids is low-carbon. Day care is low-carbon. And yet this work, overwhelmingly done by women, tends to be undervalued, underpaid, and is frequently the target of government cutbacks.

This realization, Klein writes, "extend[s] the usual definition of a green job to anything useful and enriching to our communities that doesn't burn a lot of fossil fuels."

When you expand the idea of what a Green New Deal encompasses, the plan becomes much more exciting, and its immediate benefits touch everyone in the nation. Consumer spending by people in these high-wage low-carbon-impact jobs will stimulate the economy, creating value that will finally quiet the eternal complaining of the how-will-you-pay-for-it crowd. And as Klein noted, the demographics that will see the biggest benefits from the expansion of these sectors are women and people of color, who tend to earn markedly less than their neighbors on average.

By encouraging workers to pursue low-carbon fields of employment, we will be protecting the environment, meeting our societal needs, and strengthening the economy — all at the same time.  Best of all, there's a clear historical precedent for this: the Works Progress Administration in Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal, which employed not just construction workers and engineers to build much-needed infrastructure projects but also actors and painters and writers and all kinds of artists to create public art that buoyed spirits and reminded Americans of our common cause — something that we desperately need right now. Imagine, for instance, a "Civilian Care Corps" that provides much-needed child care, shores up elder care for an aging populace, and addresses the widening geographic and economic inequalities in our national health and child care sectors.

For too long, trickle-downers have argued against environmental jobs on a balance-sheet basis, claiming that job losses and business closures will accompany any responsible carbon legislation. The only way they could turn voters to their side was by threatening your livelihoods and communities. It's hard to argue with someone when they threaten your children's future.

Progressives finally have a response to these threats that is compelling, optimistic, and — best of all — entirely true. By bringing everyone into the climate fight, progressives will create massive political change the same way we did with same-sex marriage and gun responsibility: by swaying one neighbor at a time with personal stories and an appeal to our better natures. This is the optimistic call that promises a cleaner, safer, more economically sound future for everyone — a call to save the world by changing the world.

Listen to the Podcast: In 2014, venture capitalist Nick Hanauer warned his fellow plutocrats that our growing crisis of economic inequality would lead to an uprising or a dictatorship. Two years later, angry voters elected Donald Trump. In Pitchfork Economics, Nick explores why the pitchforks are coming, who they're coming for, and how the stories we tell about the economy can change the economy itself.

The best pooper scooper for grass

Not only is it highly affordable, but the Four Paws Grass Wire Rake makes cleanup fast, easy, and sanitary.

If you're like many dog owners, you encourage your dog to do his business outside in the yard so you don't have to worry about the hassle of odors and indoor cleanup. The challenge with this is that some pooper scoopers can't rake through the grass so you end up smearing more of the poop than you actually collect. To solve this problem, we recommend the Four Paws Grass Wire Rake as our top pick for the best pooper scooper for grass.

The Four Paws Grass Wire Rake features a simple yet functional design consisting of a long metal handle and a wire scoop. The tines of the scoop rake easily through grass, collecting the poop without damaging your yard. After scooping, you can simply empty the mess into a container or a plastic bag for easy clean-up. Not only is this product sanitary and easy to use, but it features a rubber grip for comfort and the metal is rust-resistant for maximum durability.

Top Dog Tips describes the Four Paws Grass Wire Rake as practical and inexpensive as well as straightforward and easy to use. A review from A Top Daily notes that the rake doesn't rust or lose its shape over time, making it the perfect budget-friendly solution for easy cleanup. Petsho also reviews this product favorably, commenting on the quality and comfort of the rubber grip as well as its durability.

On Amazon, the Four Paws Grass Wire Rake, reviewers love the fact that it leaves no trace when scooping in the grass, though there are some comments that the handle could be longer and the tines more closely spaced.

Pros: Simple and lightweight design, scoop rakes through grass to collect poop without damaging the yard, made from durable materials, materials are rust-resistant, comfort grip handle

Cons: May not work well on hard or indoor surfaces, may pick up some grass along with the poop, handle may be too short for some people, tines may be too widely spaced for very small messes

Buy the Four Paws Grass Wire Rake on Amazon for $9.87

The best stand-up paddle boards

$

  • The 10'6" Adventure Paddleboarding All Rounder Stand Up Paddle Board is a solid, high-performance board from one of the most reputable vendors in the outdoor goods business.
  • If you're ready to make the transition to a harder surfboard that will perform and turn in the waves and track better in windy conditions, this is the board for you.
  • Likewise, beginners will appreciate that this board will continue to accommodate them even as their comfort and skill levels progress.

Over the last decade, stand-up paddle-boarding has exploded in popularity. What began as an oceanic pursuit for a handful of surfers that included Laird Hamilton, Oahu's aquatic stuntman Brian Keaulana, and a few old-school surf instructors from Waikiki, has today become globally ubiquitous from beach breaks to harbors to lakes and hidden angling spots.

Today's market has evolved into a dizzying array of boards for fishing, racing, river running, flat water, and yes, surfing. Constructions run the gamut, too, from exotic epoxies, carbon, and fiberglass to incredibly durable foam and inflatable models. For a beginner especially, the choices can be overwhelming, and that's' where this guide comes in.

Because of these different genres and construction types, we decided to break paddle boards down into four categories: inflatable, soft, hard (surfing), and fishing — taking the beginner and first-time buyer into account.  The picks that follow are the result of hours of time spent on screen and on lakes, tidal creeks, and of course, the open ocean.

Among the most important considerations for stand-up paddle boards (SUPs) are weight and durability — two factors that are not always mutually exclusive. In the case of the boards that follow, we've tried to ensure that you'll not only be able to hoist the board onto the roof of your car, but that it also won't ding at the slightest bump or snap in half on a waist-high wave.

We also took market factors into consideration. Currently, the stand-up paddle board marketplace is as fluid as the ocean. Manufacturers, vendors, and models come and go seemingly overnight. We've tried to recommend well-warrantied products from companies we know you'll be able to deal with at least a year or two from now.

A final important factor to note is that if you have children who will be playing around with a stand-up board in the ocean or on flat water, we strongly recommend either an inflatable or our completely soft foam model recommendation. The last thing you need is a 25- or 30-pound, ten-foot-long airplane wing banging off your child's head or a rigid fin digging into their skin.

Here are the best stand-up paddle boards you can buy:

Updated on 10/25/2019 by Owen Burke: Updated pricing, formatting, and copy. Currently considering new SUPs to test for spring.

The best overall

Adventure Paddleboarding's All Rounder is a solid, high-performance board for everyone from beginners to seasoned pros.

The All Rounder has a number of features going for it. First off, its construction is super durable, with an extruded EPS foam core that won't soak up water should the board take a ding. That's unlikely though because lain over the foam is a carbon fiber, epoxy, and fiberglass cloth bonded in place beneath underneath a tough epoxy resin. The EPS/epoxy combination makes the board a nicely light 24 pounds while its deep, perfectly balanced grab handle enables fatigue-free carrying.

The board was clearly shaped by a surfer. Though it's plenty stable with a nearly five-inch-thick and 32-inch-wide deck, its surf-friendly construction includes nicely transitioned rails whose squared off shape near the board's base allows the board to pivot quickly into turns. And while you may not care about the double concave shape on the hull, this mild hull curvature translates into lift and speed when going down the line and traveling parallel to a wave's face.

At the tail, the board is gently rockered, which helps initiate turns. Though the board only ships with a large and rigid single fin, it features side plugs to add a pair of inexpensive FCS fins for extra bite in waves and straighter tracking in windy flatwater conditions.

We also liked the board's deck traction, which was very grippy but soft enough to keep your feet from going numb during a long paddle. Another thoughtful touch is a slight upturn at the back of the traction pad to keep your foot from slipping off the back of the board and giving a point of reference in turns.

The board is built with a series of plugs along the rails and deck for attaching a cargo net, or a nose-mounted GoPro — a great touring feature. For surfers above 195 pounds, REI also offers an 11'6" version of this board — and in typical REI fashion, a year-long warranty.

We'd love for this board to also ship with a paddle and leash, but for those items, you'll have to spend some extra money.

Pros: Lightweight, super strong, a real surfboard for real waves, REI customer service

Cons: More expensive than some other epoxy boards on the market, we'd love to see this sold as a package with a set of side bite fins, a leash, and a paddle

The best soft board

Liquid Shredder's 10'6" standard soft board is incredibly durable and a lot of fun to paddle in when you're on open water or in small to medium surf.

In the decade and a half since founder Scott McClain began selling his "slick skin" surfboards from a Charleston garage, Liquid Shredder has refined its manufacturing process to a high degree. Liquid Shredder's 10'6" standard soft board is a feather-light 26 pounds and a very stable 32 inches wide and four inches thick.

Liquid Shredder uses a patented construction process. The company begins with a core of extruded polystyrene (EPS) foam that won't absorb water even if the board is punctured. The core is then reinforced with lightweight aluminum I-beam stringers to keep it from flexing or breaking amidst the waves. It is then literally shrinkwrapped inside a padded foam and seemingly bulletproof vinyl skin.

The rails (sides) of the board are then further wrapped all the way around in another protective layer of PVC. The board's ride is stabilized with a set of three soft, flexible fins with smaller 'sidebite' fins that help it track straight and stop it from sliding sideways in steeper waves.

We really liked thoughtful touches like an offset center hand grip which ensures that the short and long-armed can carry the board comfortably, a patch kit in case you should somehow manage to scrape a hole in the board's coating and a small Gore-Tex vent that purges air from inside the board in case you leave it out in the hot sun and the gasses inside it expand.

It also features a small plug near the tail to drain water should any ever intrude and a soft and grippy foot patch that extends over most of the deck.

I've owned my first Liquid Shredder for more than 10 years and it's still going strong. Treat this SUP with a little bit of TLC and it will last a very long time. The one-year warranty though, adds a nice peace of mind.

Pros: Lightweight, kid-friendly, durable, surfs well for a soft board, one-year warranty

Cons: Because the board is so lightweight, it can be a handful in windy conditions, which want to turn it sideways to the wind. We would also love to have some tie downs to secure gear to the deck.

The best inflatable board

The Tower Adventurer inflatable is a durable, sturdy, and easy-to-use inflatable stand-up paddleboard.

Back in 2012, standup paddleboarder Stephen Aarstol appeared on NBC's Shark Tank and convinced billionaire Mark Cuban to take a $150,000 chance on his small paddleboard company. Since that time, Tower has exploded in sales from $100,000 to better than $25 million. The company's formula is quality gear at an affordable price coupled with solid customer service, and it sure works. That's why its inflatable SUP is our favorite.

For a lot of folks, an inflatable SUP makes perfect sense. They're easy to transport, safe for kids and beginners, and with modern composite materials — like military-grade outer skins — incredibly durable. So much so that inflatables are the board of choice for SUP'ers on rock-strewn rivers.

Boards like the Tower Adventurer are made rigid when blown up, thanks to a nifty bit of technology that uses tens of thousands of gossamer threads that join the upper and lower decks. When inflated, the threads act like a network of tiny support columns. At 6 inches, the Adventurer is thicker than many inexpensive inflatable boards, giving it the rigidity of a hard, epoxy-built board. Its seams are also glued with a super strong epoxy. You'd have a very, very hard time splitting it.

The Adventurer features a mildly flexible and easily removable center fin and a pair of permanently affixed 'side bite' fins to help keep the board straight in wind and waves. It comes with a hand pump and gauge and inflates to its full 11 PSI pressure in a few minutes. Note that you will exert yourself blowing it up, and you might be happier with one of the brand's 12-volt electric pumps.

Out on the water, the Adventurer tracks straight and surfs surprisingly well on even medium waves and its soft construction is a confidence booster for any beginner. At 24 pounds, it's also surprisingly light. We've even tested a Tower amidst the waves and sharp coral of Fiji. It glided across the waves and even took the occasional scrape across the reef without puncturing. The three-piece paddle is not as light as high-performance models, but proved durable and perfectly serviceable.

We also really like Tower's inclusion of a carrying strap and its two-year warranty. Some of the company's most oft-cited online praise cites its prompt and attentive customer service. If the board should lead you to spend more time on the water than you think you should, Tower also includes a copy of Stephen Aarstol's book, "The Five Hour Workday" as part of the package — to help you justify your newfound addiction.

Amazon buyers are exceptionally pleased. More than 500 reviews earned the board a 4.5-star average, and 77% of reviewers gave it 5 stars.

If there are downsides to the board, it's in the fact that, like any other lightweight rounded nose board, it's pretty susceptible to being blown sideways in a stiff breeze. Like essentially every other inflatable, too, you can't really turn this board and hold it in line against the wave using its side edges, or 'rails'. They're simply too big and rounded.

When surfing, you have to turn this board by weighting the back. We would love to see D-Rings on this model to attach gear up front, but for just over $500, you can't have everything.

Pros: Lightweight, very stiff, tracks nicely on waves and even amidst mild chop

Cons: Flimsy pump, doesn't do very well in wind and could use D-rings up front. We'd like it even more if it came with a bag and leash.

The best for surfing

Naish has been making surfboards since the late 1970s, and the 9'5" Mana GTW may be far from the best paddler, but it's a great surfboard.

If you want a board that can perform in the surf, you'll want to be sure it incorporates something called rocker, which is the front-to-back concave of a board's hull that allows it to sit more comfortably on a wave's face, where a straighter, flatter board (which is great for touring and steady tracking) would be more difficult to maneuver. You'll also want a wider board — at least while you're starting out — for stability.

But whether you're a beginner or not, this is a great board for anyone, especially those planning to ride smaller waves (i.e., most of us). At 9-feet, 5-inches, it's still short enough for sportier spirits to surf a little more aggressively, thanks to the V-rocker and the rockered tail, which really lets you walk back and pivot into a turn with relative ease.

This board will also float most people with its 163-liter volume and 4.75-inch thickness, which grants it the ability to float 210 pounds of human and gear or dog, or pretty much whatever you're willing to strap or try to balance atop its deck.

But just because it can float a lot of weight does not mean it's stable. Maneuverability almost always comes at the cost of stability, and being only 10 feet long this board does not track well, so don't bother trying to take it touring, and if you want a more hybrid-style paddle board, consider our main pick, Adventure Paddleboarding's All Rounder instead.

Outdoor Gear Lab reviewed the previous model of the Naish Mana GTW (which was just seven inches longer and a half-inch thinner) calling it a "great choice for surfing" but complained about it being too slow to track and compete with their other boards, which were all tested for touring, and not so much surfing. Beginners complained that the board felt a little unstable, that is until they found their footing. Again, if you're really set on specifically surfing, this could be a good SUP for you. If not, look for something a little more hybridized.

Pros: Shaped ideally for small to moderate surf, solid construction, exceptionally buoyant

Cons: Too short to perform as a touring paddle board, somewhat unstable, requires deft footing (but this will teach you quickly where to stand and when)

The best for fishing

The Bōte Rackham AeroBōte makes fishing from a SUP, which is otherwise designated for the most nimble and deft-footed, easy enough for just about anyone.

Fishing from a stand-up paddle board (or SUP) can be highly productive: You're stealthier, you don't draw nearly as much water as you would in a skiff or even most kayaks, which means you're able to work your way into skinnier water, and you're kept high and dry, as opposed to wading.

But then, it can also be something of a challenge: Wind and swell are often keeping your balance in check, anchoring or sitting still is a chore that either requires a lot of paddling or an actual anchor and something to fix it to, and then there's all your gear, which, at any moment, could end up in the drink.

I've always been cautious when heading out fishing on a SUP. I only bring one fishing rod, a small box of flies, a knife that I keep strapped to me, and maybe I'll bring a water bottle, but only if there's mesh or bungee netting to hold it in place. Otherwise, Keeping tabs on both a water bottle and a fly rod or balancing them while trying to paddle gets beyond cumbersome.

There are DIY/jury-rigging solutions to all of this. A pair of bungee cords linked together can make a strap or two, but you have to wrap them around the underside of the board, which creates drag and costs you speed. It's also not the sturdiest thing in the world. You could drill holes into your board, too, but that takes a degree of expertise (and a time commitment) that many of us don't have. It can also get messy and ugly.

But Bōte's Rackham AeroBōte is different.

First of all, at a lengthy 12 feet and 4 inches, this SUP really is bordering on a boat, and it's nearly as stable as one. The only way I fell off was by trying to navigate around the lean post, which was a stupid thing to do, frankly.

Accessorizing the Rackham ends only with your imagination. There are D-rings, bungees, and Velcro galore. Conveniently placed handles make portages and dragging it up the beach a breeze, while an airplane-ready storage bag cinches the whole thing down so you can take it just about anywhere.

The non-slip deck is a no-brainer, but I must add that it feels notably pleasant under bare feet, and the optional lean post makes for a surprisingly comfortable full day on the water. The Rackham is also cooler- or bucket-ready, so you can take a seat, too. I opted to leave mine on the beach for no good reason at all, other than that I thought I'd want the open deck space. In the end, there was plenty, and it would have not only been nice to have a seat but a place to stash and keep a few drinks and snacks chilled.

The lean post is also a nice addition to have underway. It stores fishing rods, and, again, helps you take a little load off while you're paddling or poling along.

The Rackham comes with an adjustable three-piece paddle, which is lightweight and quickly stores in a paddle sheath near the bow for getting your hands free quickly, which I loved when spotting a fish. I don't know how many times I've bent down or turned around to drop my paddle only to spook the fish I was stalking with the loud clank of it hitting the rails of a kayak or the deck of a SUP. This feature should not go overlooked.

Nor should the push pole, which boaters in shallow water use to push along in lieu of a paddle. The brand calls it a "Sandspear" (though keep in mind that it's not included). I'd never thought that a push pole would make all that much sense with a paddleboard, but cruising the sand and grass flats made it pretty clear that I could cover twice as much water with far more stealth than with a paddle, which makes a good deal more noise. You can also add on a little sheath for the push pole, which you can use to anchor in the shallows.

So much of the above rings up a cringe-worthy price tag, I know. But keep in mind that boats are still far more expensive, and if you want a functional, portable, and comfortable fishing SUP, it's going to cost you one way or another, especially if you're not building it yourself. The advantage here is that it's still the fraction of a flats boat, and you can kit it out as you go along, when and where your budget allows. Stripped down, it's still a fun and fishable board, and you'll enjoy the little improvements you make along the way all that much more.

Sure, a full-sized skiff can accommodate more than one person, and the Rackham AeroBōte isn't cheap, but if you like to fish, and you live anywhere near a good, calm fishing hole, fresh or salt, there's nothing better for your adventuring. And, if you want to step it up a bit further, Bōte also offers the Rover Aero Classic, a stouter, micro-skiff-stand-up-paddle-board hybrid that's outboard-engine-ready.

If I ever end up with my beach- or marsh-front dream house, the Rackham, if not the Rover Aero Classic will be my very first purchase. And, if I manage to scrape up some extra dough beforehand, it might just save me a small fortune on charter and rental boat fees every time I fly somewhere to fish.

There aren't many (if any) solid reviews of the Rackham AeroBōte around the world wide web, but you can watch people catching big fish (a kingfish, or king mackerel, outside the surf), bigger fish (a tarpon), and even very big fish (a five- or six-foot blacktip shark) atop similar models on YouTube. You can read my full review here. Owen Burke

Pros: Stable, maneuverable, and the most customizable, comfortable fishing SUP I've ever tried; comes in camo for hunting

Cons: Expensive; paddle, push pole, lean post, and all other accessories sold separately; not exactly fit for surfing

Hotel review: I spent a night in one of New York's coolest hotels, the William Vale — here's why the Williamsburg hotel is worth the splurge

The William Vale 4x3

  • The William Vale Hotel in Williamsburg is one of the coolest hotels in New York, known for super chic rooms, a thriving pool scene, and the rooftop bar Westlight and Italian restaurant Leuca — which warrant a visit on their own.
  •  The hotel is not cheap: many standard rooms will run around $400 and are tight on space. More expansive suites offer ultra-luxurious accommodations but can cost well over $800 per night.
  • I spent a night in an upgraded King One-Bedroom Suite with Balcony and think it's worth every penny.

I'm a fan of the staycation. You can rest and recharge without stepping foot in an airport. And by removing actual travel costs, you might have extra cash to spend.

But as a resident of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, the idea of one at the William Vale Hotel felt a bit funny. My own bed would be just a 20-minute walk away. It would have to be a pretty special hotel to feel worth it.

It was.

The William Vale is, quite simply, one of the coolest hotels in New York. It's effortlessly sophisticated and super modern, best evidenced by the fact that locals actually hang out here. I would know; I'm one of them.

Since the hotel opened in 2016, I've been a regular visitor to Westlight rooftop bar, as well as the on-site Italian restaurant, Leuca. They are both top choices for celebrating special occasions and anniversaries or to impress out-of-town friends and family.

It was only after booking a room however that I realized I was missing out on half the experience. Staying overnight won't come cheap, but it's absolutely worth it.

Standard rooms typically cost around $400 per night, though if you're able to stay on a weeknight or book a special package, you might snag a deal as low as $228. Entry-level offerings are quite small for a rather expensive price; if you're able to afford an upgrade (or have credit card points to use), I think it will feel more worth it.

While spacious suites start at around $800 per night, they offer the chance to spread out in one of New York's hippest hoods with unrivaled views. I spent the night in a King One-Bedroom Suite with Balcony, comped for review purposes, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for anyone looking for a super stylish splurge.

Indeed that's who stays here: a well-heeled set in search of sophisticated accommodations, with the budget to pay for it. They want VIP access to the hotel's on-site hotspots, but without the typical snobbery that sometimes accompanies high-end hotels.

And, as any Brooklynite will tell you, staying over the river in Williamsburg is so much better than cramming into Times Square.

Keep reading to see why I was so impressed by the William Vale Hotel in Williamsburg.

SEE ALSO: Hotel review: We stayed at the Conrad New York Downtown — here's why the all-suite Hilton offering is worth the high price tag

Everything about the William Vale, from the courtyard to the understated lobby, and the towering building itself, is super sleek. The entrance is part of a larger, hip compound comprised of on-site venues including Leuca Restaurant, Du's Donuts, Suit Supply, and an elevated green space dubbed Vale Park. There, you'll find a trendy Airstream Mr. Dips, serving juicy cheeseburgers and ice cream cones.

The lobby itself is surprisingly small for such a strong first impression. There's a simple long desk under a dangling light installation, where check-in was fast, friendly, and easy. I was quickly off to the elevator, key in hand. Adjacent to the elevators I found lobby lounge seating set against striking artwork. There was a small desk for the concierge, too.

But the strongest first impression came moments later, as I stepped out of the elevator to the 20th floor. I was immediately greeted by floor-to-ceiling views of Brooklyn and Queens, which were quite impressive, and a hint of more to come in my room.

I was upgraded to a King One Bedroom Suite with Balcony and while this can be quite costly, typically starting at $800 a night, if you have the budget, you won't be disappointed. The price could also be easily split between a group sharing the suite.

At 550 square feet, it's larger than many New York City apartments. In fact, it felt like the kind of apartment I'd envision myself in if I didn't live here. Heck, I do live here and left wishing I could make it my permanent abode.

There's a spacious living area, separate bedroom, spa-like bathroom, a generously-sized terrace, as well as a mini-fridge, which was really the minibar. Lavazza coffee was complimentary, and the minibar was stocked with snacks so intriguing, I actually found myself contemplating the high price tag for items such as individual craft cocktails.

One thing glaringly missing was a desk. With many business types on-site, I was surprised to see such an omission. There are co-working areas within the hotel, but it felt disappointing to leave my lovely room to do work at a proper desk elsewhere.

The overall design was super stylish, with bright pops of blue and yellow peppered against geometric, Art-Deco inspired furniture and art. The look was contemporary, with an L-shaped chaise sofa, TVs in both rooms, hardwood floors, and floor-to-ceiling windows that opened onto an incredible terrace. The balcony was outfitted with a day bed and two sitting chairs for unobstructed, stunning views of Manhattan and Brooklyn.

I actually felt that the balcony rivaled the views upstairs at Westlight. So much so, that had I stayed longer, I would have foregone a trip to the bar to enjoy cocktails on my own private terrace instead. This was, without question, the highlight of the room.

The bedroom could be fully closed off from the living room, making it a great option for families and multiple guests. Similarly, there were two entrances to the bathroom. One, from the bedroom, and the other from the living room to the toilet, which connected to the bath and shower.

I slept well in the very comfortable King-sized bed, however, I did hear loud noise from neighbors when they returned to their room late at night. It wasn't terrible, but I did stay on a Monday.

Knowing the hotel has much higher occupancy on weekends, with a late-night crowd packing Westlight, I'd imagine noise could be a bigger concern at those times. This could feel like an annoyance when paying such a high premium to stay, especially in smaller rooms.

If noise is a concern, I'd suggest flagging it to the very helpful front desk. A high floor should help too; I heard zero traffic noise — a true rarity in New York!

The bathroom was posh, stocked with my favorite hotel toiletries from Le Labo. The mosaic-like tiled floors, huge step-in rainfall shower, deep soaking tub, and Frette robes cemented what already felt like a trip to the spa.

Overall, my room was impressive, extremely comfortable, and felt like a real respite. Just staying there made the night feel special and memorable. If you can manage it, I'd recommend spending extra and upgrading to a suite, as smaller rooms that are also quite expensive might not feel as worth the high price tag. But if price is a concern, or you don't need so much space, there are several cheaper, yet equally lovely options.

Standard rooms include King, Queen, or two Double beds. They're about half the size, at approximately 250 square feet, with no living room or soaking tub. However, all rooms boast balconies, so there's no sacrifice when it comes to what is arguably one of the hotel's best features. Though you will have to pay more for views of Manhattan as opposed to Brooklyn or Queens.

Compare room types at the William Vale on Booking.com

If you're staying at the William Vale, it would be a shame to skip the incredible on-site offerings. As a guest, I received priority access to the Westlight rooftop, which offers expensive, but very worthy craft cocktails framed by some of the best views of New York City. The VIP treatment is a huge plus, especially on weekends when the public queue to enter can wrap around the block. Stop in for drinks as the sun dips below the New York City skyline, and nosh on elevated bar fare. The drinks are inventive and unique; this is not the place to stick to your tried-and-true staples. Instead, your best strategy is to simply open the cocktail menu and point anywhere.

Follow with dinner at Leuca, a Southern Italian-inspired restaurant from famed chef Andrew Carmellini serving delicious house-made pastas, as well as wood-fired pizza, seafood, and meat.

The William Vale also houses the aforementioned donut shop and outdoor venue for burgers and ice cream, plus a gym, and work stations. There's also a seasonal pool, which attracts major crowds. Expect inflated room rates in summer, when demand surges.

Williamsburg has exploded in popularity in recent years, and rightfully so. It's filled with chic stores, incredible food, and artisan finds. It's a mecca for design and vintage furniture with gems such as Dobbin Street Co-op, Porter James, and Copper & Plaid.

If you're visiting on a Saturday, the seasonal Smorgasburg is an incredible outdoor food market. The lines are long and crowds plentiful, but your belly will depart oh-so-happy.

The William Vale has four-and-a-half out of five stars on Trip Advisor, and is ranked six out of 83 hotels in Brooklyn. It holds an equally revered 8.7 score on Booking.com.

Reviews highly praise the staff, as well as comfortable rooms, fantastic views, and both Westlight and Leuca. Negative feedback cites high prices and the smaller rooms, which can feel cramped.

Who stays here: Tourists visiting New York for the second or third time and want to be Brooklyn-based; wedding guests, bachelor parties and those in town for events; business types; and the staycationer, especially in the summer for the pool.

We like: Westlight and Leuca. The priority access feels pretty special when you breeze past a line wrapping around the block.

We love (don't miss this feature!): The one-bedroom suite. I'll be saving up to stay here again.

We think you should know: The crowd here on weekends can be rowdy, and even more so in the summer when the pool becomes a massive draw. As such, expect prices to be higher in warmer months.

We'd do this differently next time: I'd love to visit in summer to access the pool and feel like a real Williamsburg VIP.

The William Vale is a beautiful hotel with such a fun scene and so many great on-site venues, you could easily spend your whole stay within the hotel, especially when the pool is open.

Of course, that would do your visit a disservice, as the hotel offers a prime position to explore one of New York's coolest neighborhoods.

Rooms aren't cheap, but you can expect them to be incredibly posh, with incredible balcony views, and in a great location.

If you don't have the time or inclination to head over to your local florist and order a bouquet, you're in luck — online flower delivery services are positively booming.

Bouqs partners with eco-friendly farmers to ensure that every bouquet is made up of the best freshly cut flowers.

If you care about sustainable farming practices, you'll love The Bouqs Co. This florist partners with eco-friendly farmers around the world to bring only the best flowers to your door. We've sent many bouquets from The Bouqs Co to friends and family, and they have always been perfect.

Bouqs also promises that it only cuts the flowers it sells, so there aren't any cut blooms going to waste.

In addition to supporting small farms, Bouqs also works with talented local florists to make the Hand Crafted bouquets. These bouquets can even be delivered on the same day, with some blooms arriving just two hours after your order is placed. Of course, on busy holidays like Mother's Day and Valentine's Day, these bouquets may be sold out or impossible to get.

The best classic online flower delivery service

Florists' Transworld Delivery sends beautiful flowers anywhere in the US with same-day delivery.

Florists' Transworld Delivery (FTD) has been delivering flowers since 1910, so the company really knows what it's doing. FTD has many different beautiful flower arrangements available, but you can also get succulents, chocolates, and other gifts delivered.

The bouquets are handmade and the flowers are carefully selected at farms before they arrive at the FTD florist's shop. Most of the arrangements come in nice vases, and you can choose how full you want the bouquet to look.

There's even a helpful section for bouquets that cost $50 or less, and you can choose from a selection of potted plants if you prefer to send a living plant instead of freshly cut blooms.

FTD offers same-day delivery of some arrangements and others come from FedEx or UPS. Of course, on big shopping days like Mother's Day and Valentine's Day, it's best to order early so you get the best blooms and service.

We've gotten a few lovely bouquets from FTD, and we were impressed by the beautiful vases, secure packaging, and freshness of the blooms.

Expert reviewers from Consumer Reports and Reviews.com also rate the service highly.

Pros: Long history of quality, lots of flower arrangement options, same-day delivery

Cons: Some may sell out, not as eco-friendly as others

UrbanStems delivers both unique flower arrangements and live plants across the continental US with next-day delivery Tuesday through Saturday. If you happen to live in NYC or the DC metro area, you can even get same-day delivery.

As always, we recommend ordering ahead of time so your favorite bouquet doesn't go out of stock. UrbanStems lets you schedule deliveries in advance, too, so there's really no excuse.

The company also has subscription plans, so you can send flowers or plants to your loved ones all year long on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis.

Cons: Expensive

The best hard anodized cookware sets

best anodized cardware

If you're fed up with cooking a scrambled egg, only for it to stick to your saucepan, then it's time to invest in some hard-anodized nonstick cookware. Considered the go-to option for home cooks, and even professional chefs, hard anodized cookware is easy to use and clean.

So, what does "hard-anodized" actually mean? It's essentially a way of hardening a soft aluminum surface electrochemically so it becomes twice as hard as stainless steel and has an oxidized layer that is nonstick, scratch resistant, and non-reactive to food. Hard-anodized aluminum cookware is easy to clean, non-toxic, and requires little or no oil.

Thanks to highly durable surfaces, it can withstand high temperatures, so it can go in the oven. Plus, its nonstick layer lasts up to three times as long as a regular nonstick pan. It does a great job of preventing scratches and can't chip or peel away.

You'll need a variety of pots and pans for your kitchen depending on how keen a cook you are. Buying individual pieces can be very expensive, so sets are a more economical alternative. To keep things simple, we have focused on 10 to 12-piece sets, which are suitable for a couple or small family. In boxed sets, lids are considered as pieces and some manufacturers even count extras such utensils, so that's something to bear in mind.

There are plenty of sets to choose from on the market and options to suit all budgets, but it can be hard to know which sets are best for you. We've spent hours researching and putting a variety of hard-anodized cookware sets to the test, making scrambled eggs and sticky sauces, and flipping pancakes, to come up with our top five.

To be included, sets had to be PFOA-free. Some manufacturers state it is okay to use metal utensils with hard-anodized cookware, but in our experience, it is still better to use silicone ones to keep surfaces in good condition

The best hard-anodized cookware set overall

The Circulon Symmetry Hard Anodized 11-Piece Cookware Set is sophisticated and versatile, these pots and pans combine unbeatable performance with durability, plus they're easy to clean.

There's a wide selection of hard-anodized cookware on the market, but theCirculon Symmetry set is the best one you can buy. It lives up to its reputation, whether you're grilling a filet mignon or whipping up a mushroom and spinach mélange.

The set includes a 1-quart pouring saucepan, 2-quart covered saucepan, 3-quart covered saucepan, 8-quart covered stockpot, 8.5-inch French skillet, 10-inch French skillet, and a 3-quart covered sauté pan.

Its elegant, tulip-shaped design looks super stylish. You can expect superior performance and itsheavy-duty construction means you can cook your favorite recipes to perfection. You can also stick it in the oven because all the pieces in this set are rated to handle up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Each piece in the Circulon Symmetry setfeatures a warp-resistant bonded stainless steel base that is suitable for all stovetops including induction. Expert reviewers praise this set, which was ranked the best induction cookware on Home Epiphany. It is also considered one of the best nonstick sets on the market by Think Cook.

One of the big benefits of this set is that it is dishwasher safe but it is also very easy to clean if you prefer hand washing. The rubberized cast stainless steel handles are comfortable to hold, while the vented, shatter-resistant glass lids are tight fitted to lock in the flavors of your favorite recipes.

Amazon reviewers gave the range 4.5 out of 5 stars, raving about its nonstick performance. Its customers generally felt the higher price tag was worth it. However, a small number of users did report the nonstick coating began to peel off after a few months.

Pros: Oven safe to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, dishwasher safe, warp-resistant, induction compatible, metal-utensil safe, stay cool handles.

Cons: It is expensive

The best mid-range hard anodized cookware set

The Anolon Advanced Hard Anodized Nonstick 11-Piece Cookware Set is hard to beat, thanks to its fast and even heating capabilities, long-lasting nonstick surfaces, and sleek looks.

The Anolon Advanced Set is one of the best ones you can get without totally blowing your budget. The set includes a 1.5-quart and 3-quart covered saucepans, 8-quart covered stockpot, 8.5-inch French skillet, 12-inch covered deep skillet with helper handle, and a 3-quart covered sauté pan.

Unlike traditional nonstick cookware, which has a tendency to chip, the Anolon Advanced Set is designed to last. The tri-ply DuPont Autograph 2 surface is considered one of the best nonstick coatings, and Amazon buyers reported hand washing the pots and pans is a breeze.

The sure-grip silicone handles don't get hot, so you won't burn your hands and the domed glass lids are great because you can easily check on your cooking. The only downside is that these lids lack vent holes. The pieces in this set feel solid without being too heavy.

Unfortunately, this range, like other premium cookware sets, is not dishwasher safe, but we found it very easy to clean by hand. In fact, when we put the pans to the test, scrambled egg came straight off when hand washed. Despite the manufacturer's claim that the range is metal utensil safe, some reviewers said using metal did cause scratches, so stick to silicone.

This set gets positive reviews from sites such as The Cookware Advisor and Cookware Lab, and Amazon reviewers give it a big thumbs up, with one reviewer saying it is the best cookware ever.

Pros: Oven safe to 400 degrees, silicone stay-cool handles, easy to clean by hand

Cons: Not suitable for dishwasher use or for induction stovetops

Sticky sauces fall right off the pan and dishwashing is a breeze, whether you want to do it by hand or simply stick it in the dishwasher. All Cookware Find gives it an A-rating and more than 80% of Amazon reviewers gave it five stars.

The nonstick Eclipse interior certainly held up well in testing and all the pieces can be put straight in the dishwasher. We love the contemporary black designed with brightly-colored orange handles. The handles also come in blue and are made of silicone, so you can avoid burning your hands, although one user did also say the handles get hot.

If high prices are keeping you from investing in some hard-anodized cookware, T-fal's set will be perfect for you.

The T-fal E765SC Ultimate Set offers excellent value for money. It certainly includes many key pieces like 8-inch and 10.25-inch fry pans, 1, 2 and 3-quart saucepans with lids, 5.6-quart Dutch oven, and spoon and spatula. It is also available in a 14 and 17-piece set.

The set comes in T-Fal's signature smooth gray color that will look great in any kitchen. It is very durable and the titanium nonstick interior is scratch resistant, so you can use metal utensils without scratching.

One Amazon reviewer was delighted that the insides of their pans were like new after five years of use. When you're finished cooking, simply put it in the dishwasher for effortless cleaning. We were certainly impressed when we put the pots and pans to the test in the kitchen.

We loved T-Fal's unique Thermo-Spot heat indicator, a circle in the center of each fry pan that turns red when the pan is heating to the optimal cooking temperature. This means when you're grilling a juicy steak, you'll get moist, delicious results.

However, some Cookware Advisor users reported the spot doesn't turn fully red. The TechnoResist Anti-warp Base stops pans from warping and provides even heat distribution, preventing hotspots. On the downside, some Amazon reviewers said that the pots slip on the stove.

The T-Fal E765SC Ultimate Set is oven-safe up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (the lids can handle up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit), so your pans can go straight from the stove to the oven.

Because the riveted handles are made from silicone, you don't need to worry about burning your hands when you take them out. The handles also have holes, too so you can hang the pots and pans if you need to save space. Vented, tempered glass lids allow steam to escape and you can keep an eye on what's cooking.

Food Tips ranked it top budget hard-anodized cookware set and it gets 4.5 out of 5 from Amazon buyers.

Pros: Dishwasher safe, oven safe to 400F, Thermo-Spot technology, metal utensil safe, anti-warp base.

Cons: Non suitable for induction stoves, Dutch oven might be too small for some

The best hand soap

  • Hand washing is the single best way to prevent the spread of viral illnesses like colds and the flu, and it's the best way to keep bacteria from entering your body.
  • With the right hand soap, washing your hands will also be a pleasure. Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Wash is our top pick because it leaves hands supple, smooth, and clean and because its scent is simply unmatched.

When the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention talk about hand washing, it doesn't pull any punches. The CDC website bluntly states that "hand washing saves lives," calling good hand hygiene "like a do-it-yourself vaccine" against myriad ailments. Hand washing prior to medical procedures or examinations is mandatory in all hospitals, clinics, and doctor's offices in the developed world (with thanks to the work of 19th Century Hungarian physician Ignaz Semmelweis, the man credited as the pioneer of antiseptic hand washing), and is the stated employee policy of millions of restaurants, factories, offices, and more. Your parents probably made it the policy of the household when you were growing up, too.

Let's cut to the chase: You know hand washing is important. You need to do it before meals, after using the bathroom, following contact with anyone who might have been ill, and so forth. Assuming that you're already dedicated to hand hygiene, do you have a hand soap brand to which you're also committed? While any decent hand soap will kill off most of the germs on your skin, that's where the similarities often end.

Some hand soaps leave behind delightful aromas while others are almost scent-free. Some are moisturizing and soothing while others are aggressive in their slaughter of bacteria and viruses. And some hand soaps are quite low in price while others are surprisingly expensive.

We have soaps covering all those bases and more in our list, so you'll surely find a hand soap you'll love to use before meals, after lavatory ablutions, and at all those other times when you really should be cleaning your hands.

Here are our picks for the best hand soap you can buy:

The best hand soap overall

Using Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Wash leaves hands feeling moisturized and supple but genuinely imparts nutrients into the skin.

Alright, let's address the elephant in the room right away: Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Wash is expensive. It sells for about $39 a bottle, in fact. But one 17-ounce bottle will last a single user for many weeks or even months depending on the frequency of use.

The rich, potent, but never cloying aroma of this soap, a scent blending mandarin orange, rosemary, and cedar, will delight you every time you smell it. As for how your hands will feel after washing with this pricey elixir? A buyer named Rhian says she wishes she wasn't "addicted to [this] beautiful product... [that] lathers and cleans" so well she has bought it "again and again."

Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Wash is formulated with skin-suppling ingredients that can rejuvenate hands dried out by climate, work, or age, leaving skin feeling better and better the more often it's used. And again, that scent.

One buyer calls it a "heavenly aroma" while another said it "smells heavenly." Another was a bit less celestial, with her down-to-earth review calling the stuff simply the "greatest ever."

A writer with InStyle said Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Wash smells "divine" and "makes your hands soft and smooth."

Pros: Wonderful scent, nourishing formula, handsome bottle design

Cons: Very expensive

The best affordable hand soap

Softsoap Coconut and Warm Ginger Liquid Hand Soap (6-Pack) smells good and cleans well and that's all great, but what really counts here is the low price.

The first thing you'll notice about a bottle of Softsoap Coconut and Warm Ginger Liquid Hand Soap is that it's larger than most other hand soap dispensers. While a common size is 7.5 ounces, these bottles hold 11.25 fluid ounces of soap. Second, you'll notice that when you order a six-pack of these soaps, you pay about three bucks per unit, a common price for pre-filled soap dispensers. So do the math, and you'll realize that you're effectively getting 22.5 ounces of soap free thanks to the large bottle size.

In case that was confusing, let me be clear: This is cheap hand soap. But it's cheap in price only. Softsoap is trusted by families, schools, offices, and other locations all around America not only because of its price but also because it works well. That claim is backed up by dermatologist testing.

As for the sweet coconut and warm ginger aroma, some people find it a bit too intense, but most people love it. I know I do — I've used this stuff countless times.

And so have lots of other people, based on its reviews. Softsoap Coconut and Warm Ginger Liquid Hand Soap scores a shining 4.6-star average rating on Amazon, with one buyer praising its "great scent" and calling it a family favorite. Another attests that it can "even wash away the scent of onions and fish off of your hands."

Pros: Low price, does not leave residue, trusted brand

Cons: Scent too cloying for some people

The best moisturizing hand soap

Every time you use Jergens Extra Moisturizing Cherry-Almond Hand Wash, your hands will enjoy the cleanliness and moisturizing you get from this soap.

I'm not a huge fan of lotions, to be honest. In fact, I kind of hate the way creams feel on my hands, and I avoid using them as much as possible. But I'm also no fan of dry skin. Thus you can imagine my pleasant surprise when my wife introduced me to Jergens Extra Moisturizing Cherry-Almond Hand Wash. And by "introduced" I mean that's the stuff that happened to be in her bathroom all those years back when we were dating.

This stuff is hand soap first and foremost: It cleans the grease or grime or pen or whatnot off your hands and kills off germs in the process. But it is infused with Jergens moisturizing lotion and leaves your hands feeling supple and nourished, yet without that vaguely oily, clammy feeling that lotion leaves behind when used on its own.

So whether you hate applying lotion to your hands after a washing or if you don't much mind it but would just as soon save time and make cleaning and moisturizing a one-step process, this stuff a great go to.

At the time of writing, Jergens Extra Moisturizing Cherry-Almond Hand Wash has a stellar 4.7-star rating on Amazon. One customer says using this her previously dry "hands have completely recovered" thanks to this product, while many echo the sentiments of another user who says she "loves the smell."

Truth be told, I'm not a fan of the scent, but I love the hydrated skin without the need for lotion application.

Pros: Highly moisturizing, gentle cleansing, good price point

Cons: Smell off-putting to some

The best antimicrobial soap

Whether you work in a hospital, school, or you want to keep your home reliably germ-free, Dial Original Gold Antimicrobial Soap (1 Gallon) will eliminate 99.9% of the microbes it contacts during a washing.

If you've spent much time in hospitals, medical clinics, schools, daycare centers, and other areas prone to heavy concentrations of germs, you've probably already washed your hands with Dial Original Gold Antimicrobial Soap hundreds of times. Each time you used it, you killed off millions of potentially dangerous microbes.

Using this time-tested soap to keep your hands clean may just be the single best way to prevent contraction or spreading of bacterial or viral illnesses, short of moving into a clean room for the cold and flu season.

If you associate Dial soap with dry hands, then don't worry: The brand has addressed that. While still the essentially made using the same old germ-killing formula, Dial Original Gold Antimicrobial Soap is now also infused with moisturizers. For the record, not only will this low-cost soap kill off microbes, but it also cuts through grease, lifts dirt, and cleans out cuts and scrapes.

One very satisfied buyer named Rici says she "will buy this [soap] again and again," calling it the "best soap ever and [at a] great price." A user named Bill happily adds that "research has shown [Dial] to be comparable and in many cases superior to much more expensive anti-microbial soaps."

A LiveStrong write up calls Dial able "to both remove dirt and kill a broad spectrum of bacteria" thanks to its careful formulation.

Pros: Kills 99.9% of germs, light and pleasant scent, very low cost

Cons: Consumer complaints about packaging are common

The best foaming hand soap

One pump of Method Foaming Lemon Mint Hand Soap (6-Pack) is all you'll need to quickly work up a rich, cleansing lather that will leave your hands refreshed and smelling great.

In my house, we use Method dish soap, we've used Method laundry detergent, and in one of the bathrooms, we use Method Foaming Lemon Mint Hand Soap. Why only in one? Because our son loves the smell of some soaps and hates others.

Frankly, I'm not a huge fan of foaming hand soaps — I prefer the good old liquid kind — but I readily admit that a big dollop of foamy soap lathers up quickly, and I certainly like the fresh, crisp scent of this soap.

I also appreciate the fact that Method Foaming Lemon Mint Hand Soap is absent of alcohol, aluminum, parabens, and phthalates, and that the formula includes aloe and vitamin E. Also, there's an elegant simplicity to the design of Method hand soap dispensers that looks good there in the bathroom or beside the kitchen sink.

Apparently, we're not the only family that uses Method soaps, as this stuff garners almost universal five-star reviews on Target's site. A buyer named Janice says the "lemon mint [fragrance] smells great" and that the "dispensers are the best I have found," while a reviewer named Emily says it "cuts through dirt and grease" and is of overall "great quality."

Pros: Lathers up quickly, great scent, handsome and effective dispenser

Cons: Bottle does not last as long as traditional liquid soap

The best natural hand soap

If you want to avoid chemicals, then a bottle of Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Basil Scented Hand Soap (6-Pack) is the way to wash.

Alright, let's be clear here: Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Basil Scented Hand Soap is not actually an organic or even a 100% natural product. But it's made using 98% naturally derived ingredients, and that's pretty darn close. Also, if you want truly clean hands, as in hands free of dirt and grime as well as microbes, you really do want to allow a bit of chemical cleaning.

The unique, refreshing scent of Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Basil Scented Hand Soap will invigorate you even as the soap cuts through and lifts away dirt and kills off germs, and the aloe vera and olive oil used in the formula will leave your fresh-smelling skin hydrated and nourished, too.

What you won't find here are parabens, phthalates, artificial colors, or animal testing. Also, the bottle is partially made with recycled plastics, so that's nice, too.

Mrs. Meyer's liquid hand soaps lather up quickly, and the scent left behind is mild but lingering. How do I know all that? Well, remember how we use Method in one bathroom? Guess what brand you'll find in another? Yeah, you guessed right: This one.

With nearly 200 reviews posted on its Bed Bath & Beyond page, Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Basil Scented Hand Soap enjoys a fine 4.4-star average rating and numerous rave reviews. One customer lauds the "lingering beautiful scent from the essential oils" while another loves that the brand makes "cruelty-free and earth-friendly products."

A product reviewer from TreeHugger loved that Mrs. Meyer's soaps manage to be effective while still being "biodegradable," also noting that they "do not contain ammonia, chlorine or phosphates.

Pros: 98% naturally derived ingredients, great scent, earth-friendly brand

Cons: Leaves slight residue on skin

The best shower curtains

  • The first thing you see when you enter your bathroom is probably the shower curtain, so why not buy a good one that complements your bathroom's design?
  • Of all the shower curtains we researched, the LiBa Mildew Resistant Fabric Shower Curtain is the best one with its simple look and sturdy construction.

Your shower curtain may seem like a thoughtless purchase, but it's actually something that deserves some consideration. Your bathroom is one of the most intimate places in your home and the shower curtain tends to be the highlight of it. The two main purposes of shower curtains are to keep water off the bathroom floor and to instill a sense of privacy, but they also set the tone for the style of your bathroom.

The basic components of your shower curtain system are comprised of the curtain itself (which is primarily decorative), an optional curtain liner (which is primarily functional), the shower curtain rod, and the shower curtain rings. The liner is unseen by most visitors, and you can pick rods and rings based on the design of your bathroom or curtain, so at the end of the day, the most important part of your shower curtain system is the curtain itself.

And for the record, no, a liner on its own is not a suitable curtain despite how little you care about your bathroom style. That is unless it specifically says that the liner can double as a curtain on the packaging.

Good shower curtains typically cost anywhere from $10 to $100. What makes a "good" curtain is dependent upon how your shower is structured, along with the materials and the design of the curtain. Before we dive into design, there are some things to keep in mind when searching for any shower curtain:

Shower curtain sizes and how to measure

A standard shower curtain runs 72-by-72-inches, but not all showers are the same. If you have a standing stall shower, freestanding or "clawfoot" bathtub shower, or any other kind of custom-made or unique sized shower you may need to purchase either a stall curtain (usually 54-by-78-inches), an extra-long curtain (72-by-84-inches or 72-by-96-inches) for bathrooms with high ceilings, or an extra-wide curtain (108-by-72-inches), which is usually for those with a clawfoot bathtub shower.

To measure out the best curtain size, first, determine the width and height. To get the curtain width, measure the entire length of the curtain rod and add 12 inches. Height depends on if you have a built-in tub, a clawfoot tub, or no tub at all.

If you have a built-in tub, measure from the bottom of the curtain rod (or curtain rings if you are using them) to the top of the tub, and add up an inch or two to account for the tub, which is usually about 10 inches in height at the most. Unless you have a clawfoot bathtub with a shower, you want the shower curtain to fall an inch or two inside the tub to prevent water leakage.

If you have a clawfoot bathtub shower, you'll have to be a little more crafty. Shower curtain measurements for these oval-shaped bathtub shower combos can vary greatly, but the main thing you want to focus on is getting a curtain that does not gather too much, which is an awkward look. You'll also need a track (if you don't have one already) that goes completely around the tub.

In this case, it's best to prioritize getting the correct track size by measuring the width and length of the tub and purchasing a track that fits these dimensions. From there purchase an extra wide shower curtain (so it wraps all the way around the tub) and adjust the track height to accommodate the height of your curtain.SFGate has a handy guide on this with step by step instructions.

Shower Curtain Materials

goodbath

The materials of the curtain are just as important as the design. The main things to think about are how the curtain can be cleaned based on what it's made of and how long you expect it to last. The most common materials of shower curtains are polyester, nylon, cotton, linen, and sometimes a mix of a few of these materials.

  • Synthetic shower curtains are usually the most affordable, low maintenance, surprisingly durable, and have some water repellent properties which help to fight mildew buildup. They are crafted out of man-made materials such as polyester, nylon, or sometimes a nylon/cotton mix.
  • Polyester shower curtains are the most common. They also resist shrinking and creasing, are not flammable, and dry quickly. On the downside, they're not as luxurious as curtains made of other materials.
  • Natural fabric shower curtains are usually made of cotton or linen and come in various weaves and thicknesses. They're more expensive, and generally look and feel that way. They're much less water-resistant, although most are treated with some type of waterproofing, so they take longer to dry and require you also purchase a liner. Natural fabric curtains are more flammable and usually don't provide any defense against mildew and other buildups. But they are washable, usually in a basic washing machine, although some will require dry cleaning.
  • Shower curtain liners: On the subject of liners, if you have a fabric curtain or any curtain that comes with instructions that even suggest a liner then, yes, you need one. It's really not a debate. There's no point in buying a high quality, more expensive shower curtain if you don't buy a liner to protect it. One trick to minimize disposal and recurring costs of your shower curtain liners is to find ones that are made from fabric, which you've probably seen in hotels, such as this Croscill Fabric Shower Curtain Liner. Fabric liners are easy to wash, maintain, and will last you longer. If you don't go with fabric, at least spend a few extra dollars on a liner that is mold and mildew resistant, so it won't need to be replaced as frequently.

The following Insider Picks are based on a combination of outside expert designer recommendations, Amazon customer reviews, and personal experience. Shower curtains come in so many designs we strived to take all shower curtain aspects, such as functionality and longevity, into consideration, as well, of course, as looks and style. The best shower curtain overall

Chemical free, hygiene considerate, and with a design that matches any bathroom, the LiBa Mildew Resistant Fabric Shower Curtain is our go-to shower curtain.

The LiBa Mildew Resistant Fabric Shower Curtain simply has it all and then some, although it might not look like it at first glance. The 100% polyester fabric curtain is water repellent and mildew resistant, keeping your shower and those showering in it cleaner than your average curtain. It goes overboard in the hygiene department to ensure you get an unpolluted, refreshing experience every time you shower.

The antibacterial curtain is non-toxic so it won't emit the harmful chemicals that often come with vinyl or plastic curtains. Also, the antibacterial part means it resists unsightly, not to mention unhealthy, mold and mildew buildup and can be easily rinsed clean after use. It's machine washable too, so you don't have to invest in a new one every time you do a deep clean of your bathroom.

It's the number one best-seller in shower curtains on Amazon with more than 400 5-star reviews to back it up.

Beyond being top on Amazon's list, it's also the number-one pick in Wisebread's roundup, where it's commended for its hygiene-friendly properties and classic look.

As for design, this is a case where we have to give in to the concept that sometimes the classiest things are the most simplistic. It's a no-nonsense pure white color that will match any bathroom. The fabric is smooth but highly textured to promote water bead formation and prevent the curtain from soaking.

Plus, the curtain has some well-thought-out extras that make it stand out, including reinforced hole hooks and a weighted hem that ensures water stays in the shower, where it belongs.

Reviewers consistently applaud the durability of the curtain. Others cite the convenience of the curtain, with one reviewer going as far as to say, "(I'm) never going back to vinyl/plastic curtains again!"

While the majority are in love with it, certain reviewers say the mildew-resistant claim from the manufacturer isn't exactly true. This reviewer explains their curtain has accrued a solid amount of mildew after a few months of use.

Although it may not be 100% mildew resistant, we still see this curtain as one of the most sanitary options out there. Also, mold and mildew are bound to grow in certain room environments and, if you want to get technical, the mold-resistant claim does not guarantee the curtain to be mold-proof. (Insider Picks' Guides Editor Les Shu, whose bathroom has no windows, maintains his mildew-free shower curtain by spraying a mix of vinegar and baking soda on a weekly basis.)

Overall, with so many positive reviews, high rankings, and detailed attention from the manufacturer to make sure it's a healthy and safe product, the LiBa Mildew Resistant Fabric Shower Curtain is more than worthy of being our top pick.

Pros: Antibacterial and mold and mildew resistant, blends into any bathroom design, textured fabric that plays a design and water-preventing role, low price

Cons: May not be 100% resistant to mildew and mold in certain environments

The best shower curtain with pockets

The Maytex Mesh Pockets PEVA Shower Curtain has lots of pockets to hold your shampoo and body wash while you shower.

If storage space is limited in your bathroom, you probably have to keep some of your bathroom necessities in other rooms, which just makes showering more of a hassle. You can't change the size of your bathroom, but you can make showering easier with this Maytex Mesh Pockets PEVA Shower Curtain that comes with built-in pouches to hold all your typical bathroom items.

Acting as an organizational piece as much as one that controls shower water, the clear vinyl curtain has nine mesh pockets that each support up to two pounds of personal care items. To wash away any concerns about hygiene, the materials are clear PEVA with no chlorides, so you shouldn't have to worry about excess chemicals getting steamed into the air as you shower.

Amazon reviewers tend to like the organizational aspect and see the shower curtain as a clutter-free bathroom necessity, especially if you have a bathroom with heavy traffic. One reviewer called it "literally the most useful thing I've bought for my tiny home."  However, some reviewers complain that it gets moldy. This reviewer explained that when the pockets faced outside, the curtain stayed clean but upon turning the curtain inside mold began to develop.

Reviewers go back and forth about how durable the pockets are, with some saying the pockets don't meet their needs and others, like this reviewer, suggesting you limit the weight of objects in the pockets to one pound.

From a decor standpoint, there's not much to say. It's really as much an organizational item as it is one to keep water in the shower. Your personal care items will be on display, so that's something to think about, as is the fact that it's clear, so it doesn't provide as much privacy as colored curtains.

Overall this shower curtain has one of those I-wish-I-would-have-thought-of-that-first designs that are undeniably innovative and original.

Pros: Practical space saver, doubles as an organizational item, non-chloride materials, technically two-sided as you can face the pockets inside or outside the shower

Cons: It's unclear how much weight pockets can hold, no magnets and probably needs them, mold buildup may occur

The best shower curtain for a hookless look

The Goodbath Fabric Hookless Shower Curtain adds an undeniably unique accent to your shower with its fun colors and hookless design.

If you're just so not about getting hooks for your shower, this Goodbath Fabric Hookless Shower Curtain has you covered.

Whether or not you like hookless shower curtains is a matter of personal preference. I personally can't stand the sound of metal on metal — it makes me quiver like nails on a chalkboard — so I had always bought hookless shower curtains until I got an apartment that finally had a sliding glass door shower.

Other people simply like the look of their shower curtain threaded through the rod because the hooks or hanging space it creates matches other areas of their bathroom or adds that something special to the room design. Whatever the case, hookless shower curtains are a little rarer, but having one is certainly not unheard of.

This particular curtain comes in several, surprisingly detailed, mural-like patterns, but we like the palm leaves pattern the best because it has a subtle Hotel California effect. Other design options include a nautical theme, a cacti garden, and a blue octopus print.

The design is placed on the curtain using a pretty cool heat dye sublimation printing technique that helps ensure the design holds up a long time without fading. It's mold, mildew, and soap resistant. The 100% polyester fiber makes it soft to the touch.

The manufacturer claims you don't need a liner, but if you want to be on the safe side, it really can't hurt to just go ahead and buy one. This Hookless RBH40BBS01 Snap-In Fabric Liner is a good solution for many hookless curtains because it literally snaps into place.

Pros: Eliminates the need to purchase hooks, extremely detailed designs and variety of pattern options, durable, mold, mildew, and soap resistant

Cons: Price is on the higher end, installation may be a bit tricky

The best shower curtain for a classic or modern design scheme

The InterDesign Chevron Shower Curtain has a fun, subtle pattern that will add a touch of class to your bathroom.

If you don't want your shower curtain to visually scream at you with crazy colors and patterns, but you still want one with a little more edge than plain white, this InterDesign Chevron Shower Curtain does the trick. It gives your bathroom that extra pop without being overwhelming and, besides the lone colored stripe, it has a nice neutral gray-on-white color scheme.

The curtain is made of 100% soft polyester fabric and has reinforced bullet holes to ensure the rings you hang it with stay neatly in place. Because of the material, you should get the InterDesign Mildew-Resistant PEVA 3 Gauge Shower Liner for this curtain. The Chevron curtain is machine washable, which makes maintenance easy and extends the life of your purchase. It's also available in various sizes.

If you're re-doing your entire bathroom, InterDesign conveniently offers a line of products that perfectly match the curtain including rugs, toilet brushes, and tote and suction baskets.

There are some Amazon complaints that the curtain is thin or asthis reviewer put it, "has no body," but beyond that, the reviews are mainly positive.

Pros: Simplistic design and color, extremely affordable price point, matching bathroom products, matching bathroom accessories available

Cons: Possibly thin curtain material may reduce the quality and longevity

The best shower curtain for a boring bathroom

With thousands of designs to choose from, Society6 is your go-to for unique and eye-catching shower curtains by independent artists.

You may know Society6 as the place to buy cool art, but it's also a marketplace where artists, designers, or anyone with a creative side, really, can put their works of art on shirts, bags, office products, yoga mats, and a bunch of other products, including shower curtains. You'll find thousands of options, with artwork ranging from the abstract and bizarre to modern graphics and whimsical illustrations.

Except when there is a sale, all shower curtains cost $69.99 each. The art is printed on machine-washable polyester fabric, in the USA. The fabric is soft, but there is a plasticky feel to it. Along the top are 12 slits cut into the fabric, which you can attach to a shower ring of your choice. I wish the holes were reinforced with grommets, as pulling on the curtain could cause tears in the long run. I do like that even with months of not being washed, I didn't see any mildew buildup.

As a graphic design fan, I love seeing a big piece of graphic art every time I step into my bathroom. What bothered me were the fold creases that remained after unraveling it from the packaging. You could get rid of it by first giving it a wash, but I decided to live with the creases and just hoped they would dissipate from the steam (didn't really happen). But the cool factor of the artwork overshadowed any quibbles.

Know that while the fabric is OK, for $70, it isn't the highest quality. You're really paying for the art and (hopefully, as is the premise of Society6) supporting artists. And if an un-boring shower curtain is what you seek, there's a ton to browse through. Just make sure you pick up a shower liner to go with it. — Les Shu

Pros: A lot of designs — most from independent artists, machine washable, supports artists

Cons: Not the highest quality fabric, pricey, only one size

The best mascara overall

Chanel Le Volume Mascara boosts lash volume, doesn't clump, and stays on all day to keep you looking gorgeous.

Our winner, Chanel Le Volume, lives up to its name, adding plenty of lash-boosting volume without clumping, which is often a problem with volumizing mascaras. It has a spiky brush with a blend of short and long bristles that are designed to separate and lift.

The creamy formula plumps lashes, and in our tests, we really noticed our lashes looked longer and curled upward, too, making eyes pop. All you need is one coat for daytime or two for a night out. The color is rich and bold, plus, it coats your lashes easily. In case you want it, this mascara comes in a waterproof formula, too.

Celebrity makeup artists, Kara Yoshimoto Bua and Rachel Goodwin, swear by this mascara and it is one of Elle's top mascaras. It also gets rave reviews from women who wear it every day.

One buyer who wrote a review on Macy's website said she had compliments from her co-workers the first day she wore it. One reviewer did say she experienced a little clumping, but it's easy enough to solve the issue.

Pros: Easy to apply, adds volume, length and curl, long-wearing, no flaking or smudging

Cons: High price tag

The best drugstore mascara

L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara adds volume, length, and curl for an effect that rivals many high-end mascaras.

Many people swear by drugstore mascaras, and this bestseller certainly has a cult following. L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise outdoes many more expensive types of mascaras and, in fact, is often compared to Too Faced's best-selling Better than Sex mascara.

Our drugstore favorite comes in an all-pink tube and is easy to apply, thanks to the wavy brush, which has more than 200 bristles. We were impressed with the volume and length it created with our lashes.

It also feathers lashes, really opening up the eyes. For a more dramatic look, just add a second coat. We didn't see clumping or flaking, and it stays on for hours. The formula is washable, although we found it betterto use makeup remover when you take it off.

L'Oreal's mascara was even named Harper's Bazaar's Best Mascara of all time. It gets rave reviews on Influenster, with one customer saying, "it is amazing for separating lashes and really getting mascara on to each and every single one, creating a very full looking lash." It also comes in a waterproof formula.

Pros: Volumizes, lengthens, curls, washable

Cons: Possibility of some clumping

The best volumizing mascara

For bold lashes that last and last, Lancôme's Monsieur Big should be your go-to mascara.

It's hard not to fall in love with this fabulous mascara. Lancôme's Monsieur Big claims to deliver 12 times more volume with 24-hour wear, and in our tests, it seemed to deliver. It certainly lasted all day and made our lashes look thick.

The wavy brush is easy to use and the soft bristles won't scratch your eyelids. The creamy formula contains polymers that pack lashes full of thickness, length, and jet black color. It opens up your eyes and extra coats create insane volume as well as length, for a false lash effect that we loved. It also looks as good after a night out as it does when you first put it on.

This mascara gets consistently high ratings from beauty experts and was a winner in Allure's Best of Beauty Awards in 2017. It has 10,000 likes on Sephora, with one buyer saying it was her new Holy Grail mascara.

Pros: Easy to apply, adds exceptional volume and length, very long-wearing, doesn't smudge

Cons: Can be difficult to remove

The best lengthening mascara

If you crave long, lush lashes that last, then Estée Lauder's Double Wear Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara is the one for you.

Short lashes be gone. Estée Lauder's Double Wear Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara aims to give you extra long lashes with 15-hour staying power. In our tests, the mascara lifted our lashes and made them seem longer by adding a nice curl. Even after wearing it all day and into the evening, the mascara hadn't smudged, which is a huge plus.

The brush has micro-fiber bristles to lengthen and separate to help you avoid clumping, while the formula features smudge-proof technology and polymers that coat each lash and give it a glossy, intense color. A big plus is that this mascara can resist high temperatures and humidity, making it perfect on a hot, summer's day.

Beautypedia's experts gave this mascara a perfect score, and it gets superb reviews with one Influenster reviewer, who said it made her lashes so long and her eyes look much bigger. However, there were a few reports of clumping.

Pros: Lengthens and curls lashes, doesn't smudge, stays on all day.

Cons: Needs more than one coat, tube can dry out, high price tag, easy to remove

The best curling mascara

If your straight lashes need a lift, then you'll love Benefit's Roller Lash Mascara, which delivers maximum curl that lasts.

Benefit's Roller Lash mascara is specially designed to curl and lift lashes. In our testing, this award-winning, best-selling mascara worked wonders on our straight lashes. Its instant curve-setting formula holds for about 12 hours, too, so you keep your lashes curled to perfection.

We love the black and pink tube it comes in because it looks very glam. The special Hook 'n Roll brush, inspired by retro hair rollers, separates, lifts, and curls lashes. The formula is also designed to stay put without clumping or flaking. Benefit added pro-vitamin B5 and serin to the formula to help condition your lashes. The mascara is water-resistant, too, so you never have to worry about it running.

Rank and Style named it the best curling mascara, and one happy Sephoracustomer said it made her lashes look flawless. Other reviewers reported it lasts all day long.

Pros: Curls and separates, adds lengths, doesn't flake, lasts all day, water-resistant, ingredients to condition lashes

Cons: Can smudge after a while

The best waterproof mascara

Whether you're watching a tear-jerker, hitting the gym, or heading to a pool party, Urban Decay's Cannonball Ultra Waterproof Mascara will be your new best friend.

Waterproof mascara is a summer beauty staple. Your lashes need to look lush without drying out and your mascara needs to last all day. It can be hard to find one that lives up to expectations. On our hunt, we tested some top rated waterproof mascaras but were constantly disappointed. Then we came across Urban Decay Cannonball Mascara.

It has a thick, fuzzy brush designed to maximize length and volume without flaking. Once it's on your lashes, the Japanese gel-formula just won't budge.

After testing this mascara, we were very impressed with the effect and its serious staying power, which is why it is our top pick for waterproof mascara.

Instyle's Beauty Team also recommends Urban Decay's mascara, and it gets great reviews from women who wear it every day. One Macy's buyer reporting it never came off even after lots of swimming. When you do want to take it off, you need a good makeup remover.

Pros: Adds volume and length, doesn't come off in the water

Cons: Difficult to remove

Best fiber formula

The two-step L'Oréal Paris Voluminous X Fiber Mascara gives you super-long lashes without much effort, and washes easily without makeup remover.

Fiber mascaras are infused with teeny-tiny fibers that latch onto your natural lashes to add length and drama without too much effort on your end. Instead of needing to go over your lashes a hundred times to build up volume and length, the fibers do it all for you. I love the double-sided L'Oréal Paris Voluminous X Fiber Mascara for this very reason and it's one of the only things I use on my short, stubby lashes. The fact that it's also affordable at under $7 is icing on the cake (fibers on my lashes?)

You'll first have to swipe on the primer on one end of the tube. Mascara primers aren't totally innovative, but instead of the usual white color, this one is black so it blends into dark lashes and adds drama to light lashes. Then you'll sweep the fiber mascara through your lashes like you would any other regular formula; the two steps might take you a few more seconds but it's worth that additional effort. Your lashes will look super long, fluttery, and voluminous but with none of the clumps that come with piling on several coats of mascara.

It also rinses easily with water (unless you get the waterproof version), and you'll either be freaked out or impressed by the black fibers in the sink after you wash your face.

Marie Claire lauded the product as one of the best fiber mascaras that'll double the volume of your lashes (though the brand claims it's actually 7x) and Glamour dubbed it a 2019 Beauty Award Winner. Looks like both brands were impressed — just like I was.

Pros: Affordable, washes easily without needing special makeup remover, has both regular and waterproof versions

Cons: Two-step formula can be annoying for some

The best cat food bowl overall

Dr. Catsby's Bowl for Whisker Relief makes feeding easy and comfortable for your cat, plus the stainless steel surface is easy to clean.

Our top pick overall for the best cat bowl is Dr. Catsby's Bowl for Whisker Relief. This bowl is made from high-quality stainless steel which is not only easy to clean but resists the bacteria known to cause feline chin acne. In addition to being made from the best materials available, this bowl features a rubber base to prevent slippage and a shallow but extra-wide design to ensure that your cat's whiskers don't touch the sides of the bowl during feeding.

In addition to having a 4.2-star rating on Amazon, Dr. Catsby's Bowl for Whisker Relief receives top marks from The Bengal Cat Club and Pets Lady. Pets Lady gives this bowl her highest rating, making note that the bowl is made from high-quality stainless steel with a modern design. The Bengal Cat Club review remarks that the bowl is also made to resist the kind of bacteria that can cause feline chin acne.

A more detailed review from Conscious Cat confirms that Dr. Catsby's Bowl is perfect for optimal feeding comfort for cats because it is wide enough to prevent the whiskers from touching the sides of the bowl. The Conscious Cat addresses the manufacturer's suggestion that it is best for dry food but, as Amazon customers have confirmed, it can be used for wet food as well.

Pros: Made from bacteria-resistant stainless steel, simple but modern design, silicone base prevents slippage during eating, extra-wide design prevents whisker fatigue, dishwasher safe

Cons: Only recommended for dry food by the manufacturer, limited to 1.5 cup capacity, does not contain spills for messy eaters

The best affordable cat food bowl

Affordably priced and made from heavyweight stainless steel, the OurPets Durapet Cat Dish is perfect for an everyday cat food bowl.

Cats are known for being a bit ornery at times. As a pet owner, you could spend a hundred dollars on a brand-new pet bed and your cat will still prefer to sleep in a dirty cardboard box. If your cat tends to shun the expensive things you buy him, a budget-friendly cat food bowl is probably on your shopping list. If you're looking for an affordable bowl that still offers quality and safety, we recommend the OurPets Durapet Stainless Steel Cat Dish.

The OurPets Durapet Stainless Steel Cat Dish is made from heavyweight stainless steel which is not only resistant to bacteria but also easy to clean. In fact, the bowl is dishwasher safe. It features a rubber ring around the base to keep the bowl from sliding while your cat feeds. Best of all, it features an extra-wide design with a low rim to leave room for your cat's whiskers. The bowl also comes in three different sizes from 8 to 16 ounces.

On Amazon, buyers love the nonslip base and the low-profile design, though some note that the rubber base degrades over time and the stainless steel is prone to scratches with rough handling.

Pros: Made from heavyweight stainless steel, resistant to bacteria, easy to clean and dishwasher safe, available in three sizes, rubber ring to prevent slippage, low-profile design reduces whisker fatigue

Cons: Rubber ring may wear out over time, may not be as scratch-resistant as some stainless-steel bowls, low-profile design may not be ideal for messy eaters

The best double cat food bowl

Dishwasher safe for easy cleanup, the URPOWER Stainless Steel Pet Feeder features two high-quality stainless-steel bowls set in a non-slip silicone tray.

When it comes to convenience, nothing is better than an all-in-one cat feeding and watering solution. If you're looking for a double-bowl cat feeder, our top pick is the URPOWER Stainless Steel Pet Feeder. It comes in multiple sizes with the small size being perfect for cats.

The URPOWER Stainless Steel Pet Feeder features two stainless-steel bowls set in a silicone mat. The bowls themselves hold up to 26.5 ounces each and they are set in silicone cups that elevate the bowls by about 2.6 inches. The silicone mat prevents the bowls from slipping and the raised edges help to contain spills. This feeder's generous size makes it ideal for multi-cat households but it can also be used for a single cat.

A review from Shih Tzu Expert notes that while the feeder is designed for dogs, it is great for cats as well – especially for messy eaters and cats who tend to flip their bowls over.

The URPOWER Stainless Steel Pet Feeder has more than 2,600 reviews on Amazon and a solid 4.5-star rating. Buyers love the simple, modern design as well as the quality of the stainless-steel bowls and the convenience of the silicone mat. There are some comments that the bowls may be a bit large for kittens and very small cats but overall customers are satisfied with the product.

Pros: Comes with two stainless steel bowls, silicone mat with raised edges to prevent slippage and spillage, bowls hold up to 26.5 oz. each, both bowls and mat are dishwasher safe, easy to clean

Cons: Bowls may be too large for very small cats, silicone mat may not stand up to chewing, cats with short noses or long whiskers may have a bit of trouble reaching the bottom of the bowl

The best interactive cat feeder

With its unique spiked design, the Northmate Catch Interactive Feeder forces fast eaters to slow down during meal time while also providing valuable mental stimulation.

Though overeating is more frequently a problem with dogs, some cats develop a habit of eating too quickly. If your cat eats too fast, he could end up swallowing air which might cause him to regurgitate his meal shortly after finishing. One of the best ways to slow your cat down while also providing him with some mental stimulation is to feed him using an interactive cat feeder. Our top pick for the best interactive cat feeder is the Northmate Catch Interactive Feeder for Cats.

The Northmate Catch Interactive Feeder for Cats is made from phthalate-free plastic in a unique spiked design. The base is wide and covered with smooth, rounded spikes of different sizes, forcing your cat to navigate the obstacles when catching food in his paws. The feeder offers mental stimulation in addition to forcing cats who eat too fast to slow down during mealtime. Its high-quality construction offers excellent durability and the rubber material prevents slippage.

Catological says the Northmate Catch Interactive Feeder for Cats is a great choice. With its unique design, this bowl "turns feeding time into a stimulating game." A review from Petsho notes that this interactive feeder features smooth, rounded spikes that stimulate your cat's natural instincts for catching food in his paws.

With more than 790 customer reviews on Amazon, the Northmate Catch Interactive Feeder for Cats has a 4-star rating. Buyers love how well it works to slow down a cat's feeding, though some say the feeder is too large and that some cats may not like using it.

Pros: Helps to slow down cats who eat too quickly, provides mental stimulation, made from phthalate-free plastic, dishwasher safe, stimulates cat's natural instincts to use paws to catch food, doesn't slip

Cons: Can be difficult to clean, does not prevent spillage, only available in one size, more expensive than the average cat food bowl, may be larger than expected

The best elevated cat food bowl

Made from heavy-duty ceramic with an extra-wide base, the Necoichi Raised Cat Bowl lets your cat eat without putting strain on his bones and joints.

When it comes to elevated pet food bowls, most products are designed for dogs, but cats can benefit from this type of feeder as well. An elevated bowl allows your cat to eat in a more natural position, which may improve his digestion as well as his comfort. Ideally, the rim of an elevated cat food bowl should be even with your cat's chest when standing normally. Our top pick for elevated cat food bowls is the Necoichi Raised Cat Bowl.

The Necoichi Raised Cat Bowl is made from heavy-duty ceramic materials with a cute pawprint design. The base is extra-wide to keep the food centered, while the inner lip of the bowl itself prevents food spillage. The bowl is dishwasher and microwave safe and it is the perfect height to promote a natural eating position, improving your cat's digestion and reducing the risk of regurgitation. It also makes eating more comfortable for aging and arthritic cats.

With more than 2,100 reviews on Amazon, the Necoichi Raised Bowl has a 4.7-star average rating. Customers love the attractive design of the bowl as well as its size, though some note that it may be too small for very large cats.

Pros: Elevated design to promote digestion, made from durable ceramic, wide base prevents tipping and spilling, anti-spill lip prevent food spillage, dishwasher and microwave safe, comes in 3 cute designs

Cons: May be too tall for kittens, could be too small for very large cats, ceramic material is prone to breakage with rough handling

The best gravity feeder cat bowl

The Bergan Petite Gourmet Feeder lets your cat feed freely whether you are home to feed him or not.

If you have a busy schedule, you may not always be able to feed your cat at the same time each day – that's where an automatic feeder comes in handy. A gravity feeder is the simplest type of automatic feeder because it doesn't require batteries or electricity. You simply fill the reservoir with your cat's kibble so that the bowl will refill itself as your cat eats. These feeders are not recommended for cats who have trouble with overeating, but it can be a great option for busy cat owners.

Our top pick for the best gravity feeder cat bowl is the Bergan Petite Gourmet Feeder. This feeder is made from BPA-free plastic with an easy-to-fill design and a generously sized bowl. The food is released slowly into the basin to prevent spillage and the stable base design keeps the unit from tipping over. This feeder actually comes in two different sizes for single- and multi-cat households. The Bergan Petite Gourmet Feeder has a 6-pound capacity while the Elite Feeder holds 13 pounds of dry food.

Top10BestPro names the Bergan Petite Gourmet Feeder its second choice overall for cat feeders. This review mentions beneficial features such as the wide opening to allow slow filling of the bowl as well as a lid to prevent spillage. Top10BestPro also notes that Bergan makes an automatic water bowl to match the pet feeder.

On Amazon, buyers love the affordable price and the easy-to-use design, though some say the feeder needs to be shaken occasionally to keep the food falling properly. This seems to be the case with most gravity feeders, however.

Pros: Available in 6-pound and 13-pound capacities, made from safe BPA-free plastic, top prevents spillage, easy to fill and use, wide opening allows food to fall slowly, rim prevents food spillage

Cons: May need to shake the feeder to dislodge food occasionally, food reservoir may be tricky to clean, larger size may be too big for single-cat households

  • The Clips app on your iPhone is a powerful video-editing app that you can use to easily combine videos, photos, titles, and music into videos to share on social media.
  • You can take photos and record videos in Clips, with special editing modes and tools available.
  • You can also add Live Titles, in which the app inserts your narration in the video as on-screen text, alongside other add-ons like emoji, stickers, and music.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

Clips is a deceptively rich and complex video-editing app for iOS

Clips lets you combine video clips and still images along with filters, title cards, graphics, and audio. While it's designed to let you quickly assemble videos for social media, the app lets you make surprisingly complex video productions.

Here's how to use it.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

iPhone 11 (From $699.99 at Best Buy)

How to use the Clips app on your iPhone

To use Clips, you combine videos, photos, titles, and other elements into "projects." To see and edit your existing projects, tap the folder at the top left of the screen. Here you can create a new project or select an existing one for editing.

clips 1

When you start a new project, you can create video from scratch or import a clip from your phone's library. Here are your main options:

  • Scenes is a selfie mode in which you're recorded on a sort of green screen, where you can choose from a variety of dynamic backgrounds.
  • Camera lets you record new video or take photos.
  • Library lets you insert clips from your phone's photo library.
  • Posters are editable title cards. Choose a style, and you can tap the card to change the text.

clips 2

How to record photos and videos in Clips

The biggest learning curve in Clips is learning how to add photos and videos to your project, because it works differently than most other video apps.

To record, you can't simply tap the record button — you need to tap and hold it. You'll record video as long as you hold the button. To lock the recording on so you can take your finger away, swipe the record button upwards once recording has begun.

clips 3

You can use your fingers to zoom and pan around the scene as you're recording, adding a "Ken Burns Effect" to your video in real time as you record.

To add a photo to your project, you need to "record" it. This seems counter-intuitive, but is easy to learn:

1. Tap the shutter release button (located directly above the record button) to take a photo, or add one from your library. You'll see the photo on the screen, but it won't be added to the project timeline yet.

2. Tap and hold the video record button to "record" the photo. You can pan and zoom at the same time, to highlight specific parts of the photo.

3. When you're done, release the record button, and the clip of the photo will be added to the project.

How to use advanced features in Clips

There are many other features in Clips. Live titles, for example, turn narration you can dictate (while recording a video or photo) into text that appears on the screen.

clips 4

You can also apply video styles to your clips, and add text labels, stickers, and emoji as well. And you can tap the music icon in the top-right of the screen to add a soundtrack to your creation.
