I cooked 4 Impossible Burgers at home, and it felt bizarrely familiar — these are the best and worst parts of the experience (BYND)

Impossible Burger at home

  • Starting this month, Impossible Foods is finally offering its veggie-based version of ground beef in supermarkets.
  • Impossible already has burgers at Burger King (the Impossible Whopper) and White Castle, as well as a variety of smaller restaurants. This is the first time people can buy the ingredients directly and make their own Impossible meals.
  • On Wednesday, I made Impossible Burgers for lunch and dinner — four in total between myself and my partner.
  • The experience was familiar, of course, but distinctly different from what I'm used to with ground beef.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

Burgers, as we all know, are delicious — a near-perfect combination of fatty, salty meat with creamy cheese and fresh vegetables, all wrapped in a soft, crusty bun.

In my mind, the ideal burger is something along the lines of what you'd find at Shake Shack or In-N-Out: a smashburger. Not the chain, but the concept: a relatively small, concise burger.

It's that type of burger, or something like it, that I set out to make on Wednesday with the newly available Impossible Foods "meat." The experience was both fascinating and familiar.

First and foremost, the raw version of the Impossible Burger looks an awful lot like highly processed ground beef.

Impossible's "beef" looks very similar to actual ground meat — albeit highly processed ground meat, along the lines of Spam.

It has a kind of compacted feeling as well, no doubt because of the way it's sold: in a plastic pouch. It feels condensed because it has been condensed.

This is a notable difference from ground beef that often comes in long strands, directly from the grinder. The best burgers are made from relatively loose ground beef that hasn't been "overworked," which felt like a strike against Impossible's "meat" right out of the box.

(Spoiler: It turned out to not be a problem at all.)

Yes, you can eat Impossible's "meat" totally raw. Honestly, it tastes pretty good uncooked.

If you've ever eaten a terrine, or a Thai laab, or another type of chopped-meat dish, you'll be right at home eating Impossible's "meat" raw. It could certainly use some salt, but the product straight out of the packaging packs a surprisingly savory, umami-rich punch.

Also of note: It's got a lot of chew, distinctly different from the paste-like consistency of pâté.

To that end, Impossible Foods has test-served its "beef" as tartare — and that's unsurprising. With the right crowd, it would totally work.

But let's not kid ourselves: My goal was making burgers, not eating veggie tartare.

For each of the four burgers I made, I did the same thing I'd do when making a standard burger:

  1. Weigh out 3 ounces of veggie meat.
  2. Gently roll it into a ball, then gently form that into a thin patty.
  3. Generously season both sides with salt and pepper.

I used a standard stainless-steel pan set over the highest flame on my hottest burner, slicked with a teensy bit of vegetable oil to prevent sticking (a 1/2 teaspoon or less). After two to three minutes, I flipped the patties and topped the seared side with a slice of white American cheese.

Outside of toasting the bun and preparing vegetables, this was the process I repeated for each of the four burgers I made. It is exactly the same process I use for making beef burgers, and it produces consistently delicious burgers.

What was most amazing, right off the bat, was how directly this process applied to Impossible's veggie burgers.

The Impossible Burger cooks very much like a beef burger, which was shocking to me.

Anyone who's cooked lots of burgers knows how to tell when to flip: The edges of the patty facing down start to curl a little and change color, and a bit of liquid tends to pool on the top.

It's an age-old sign that it's time to flip the burger, which is then quickly topped with a slice of cheese that can melt as the second side sears.

Impressively, the Impossible Foods veggie version acts very similar. If anything, I found that it seared a bit faster than a standard beef burger.

Best of all, the Impossible Burger is incredibly friendly to eaters who like crispy edges on their burgers (like me). Part of what Shake Shack is so well known for is exactly this, and it's stunningly easy to re-create with Impossible's veggie patty.

Visually, the Impossible Burger is stunningly close to the real thing.

There are some pretty impressive visuals inside an Impossible Foods burger.

It's got crags and a seared, crispy exterior, where melted cheese can blend with the patty to form something new. It bleeds, as you can see above, into the bun below it, just as a beef burger would — remember, I used almost no oil in the pan, so any juices coming off the patty are from the burger itself. The edges look like a loose amalgamation of protein strands, just like on a ground-beef patty.

Honestly, you could very likely market and sell these burgers as beef burgers and most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

But anyone paying close attention would quickly realize the difference: Impossible's burger doesn't taste like beef. It's close! But it's not beef.

Do you know the word "unctuous"? It's kind of gross-sounding, so bear with me for a moment: It means "of the nature of or characteristic of an unguent or ointment; oily; greasy."

Some of the best meat dishes are so great because of their unctuousness. Your favorite roast, for instance, is made particularly delicious because of the slow rendering of its fat, which makes the roast more tender and more flavorful.

Simply put: Fat is a major component of what makes meat taste good.

And not just any fat — the type of fat and the type of animal it's connected to (to say nothing of what the animal ate or how it was raised) can make a huge difference in taste and complexity. That's all before we start talking about how a particular dish was cooked.

No matter how much coconut oil and sunflower oil Impossible adds to its fake beef, it cannot replicate naturally occurring animal fat in meat. It can come close! And it does come close with its ground-beef replacement. But it's missing a layer of complexity that beef has.

But just because it doesn't taste exactly like beef doesn't mean it's not delicious. Let me be clear: The Impossible Burgers I made were absolutely delicious.

There are some massive upsides to making and eating an Impossible Burger over a beef burger.

For one, after eating several burgers, I didn't feel as if I'd eaten several burgers. It was clear that I'd eaten, but I didn't feel heavy or greasy or gross — I just felt pleasantly full.

For another, searing was even easier with the Impossible Burger than with a beef burger. It sits flatter against the pan, thus more easily pulling an even sear.

Perhaps most importantly, the Impossible Burger gets aggressively crispy, which is truly delightful insofar as it replicates one of the primary functions of a patty in a smashburger.

Let's talk downsides: the smell, the sliminess, and the lack of true beef flavor.

My initial impressions of Impossible Foods' meat were not positive.

When I took it out of the package, it reminded me more of opening a can of dog food (which I, unfortunately, do every day) than opening a butcher's package full of ground beef. There was a surprisingly strong scent, which ground beef usually doesn't have, and a general sliminess to the product. That latter bit was especially bad, because slimy ground beef is usually a good indication that it's gone bad.

About 25 seconds later, after I had more closely sniffed and actually tasted the veggie "beef," things improved considerably. It quickly leapt from alien object to something more familiar: a kind of verisimilitude of beef that my brain accepted as real enough.

My wife wasn't quite as easily sold. The first burger I made in her presence she said smelled like chocolate. By the second burger, her impression of the cooking smell had turned from "like chocolate" to "weird."

Notably, she ate the burger and didn't say it tasted bad — but she did say that "it doesn't taste like a burger."

The biggest downside of all: the premium price.

At most grocery stores, you'll pay anywhere from $3 to $8 for a pound of ground beef.

It's pretty rare to pay the higher end of that spectrum. I had to call the fanciest butcher shop in Brooklyn, The Meat Hook, which prides itself on being a more labor-intensive whole-animal butchery, to find some ground beef that costs $8 a pound.

But Impossible Foods is selling less than a pound of its ground "meat" — 12 ounces — for $9, a pretty stark comparison to the $3 you could pay for more ground beef.

I asked Impossible Foods CEO Pat Brown about the price during an Impossible Foods event in New York City on Thursday. Here's what he had to say:

"We're priced in the range of what I would say is premium ground beef at this point, not the kind of super-mass-market ground beef. And that's because although structurally our economics are vastly better than the animal-based food industry — because we use less than a twenty-fifth of the land, a tenth of the water, less than a twelfth of the fertilizer input, and all the things that are driving expensive meat production — what we lack, that they have, is massive scale. We're scaling up right now from tiny to big, and it's only when we get to a bigger scale when we realize the advantages of our process. And our goal is to get our prices affordable to everybody in the world, not just even in the US but in the developing world, as fast as we possibly can. But it doesn't happen instantly, and we can't sell our products at a loss if we want to stay in business. Fortunately, we have more demand than we can handle at our current price."

In so many words: As Impossible's "meat" becomes more popular, its price should correspondingly decrease as its makers feel more of the financial benefits of the company's more environmentally friendly approach to food creation.

Let's hope that's the case, because $9 for 12 ounces is an awfully high price to pay for a burger.

The US is zeroing in on marijuana vapes as it investigates a spate of mysterious illnesses and deaths tied to vaping

  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention this week released new information on its investigation into illnesses and deaths tied to vaping.
  • The CDC said that of about 500 people who experienced an illness linked to vaping, about 77% reported having used products containing THC, the main psychoactive compound in cannabis.
  • "The latest findings from the investigation into lung injuries associated with e-cigarette use, or vaping, suggest products containing THC play a role in the outbreak," the CDC said.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is zeroing in on the role of vapes containing THC as it investigates a spate of illnesses and deaths linked to vaping.

Across the US, at least 805 people have become ill and at least 12 have died from a mysterious lung illness, the CDC said this week. The agency said that it still didn't know for sure what's causing the outbreak and that it wasn't focused solely on products containing THC, the main psychoactive compound in cannabis.

It said that of about 500 people who experienced an illness linked to vaping, about 77% reported having used vapes containing THC, and about 16% said they had used only e-cigarettes containing nicotine.

"The latest findings from the investigation into lung injuries associated with e-cigarette use, or vaping, suggest products containing THC play a role in the outbreak," the CDC said.

The agency reiterated its warning that people should stop buying vaping and e-cig products with THC and nicotine, as it could not rule out nicotine-containing devices as a cause of these illnesses.

Read more:Officials have confirmed 12 deaths and 805 cases of serious lung disease tied to vaping. Here are all the health risks you should know about.

The CDC said it was still not clear whether any single product, substance, or brand was linked to the outbreak of illnesses. There's enormous variety when it comes to vaping devices, ingredients, and brands, making it difficult for investigators to pinpoint a cause.

"We do not know yet what exactly is making people sick," Dr. Anne Schuchat, the principal deputy director of the CDC, said on a conference call on Friday.

She said the agency hadn't determined "whether particular solvents or adulterants are leading to lung injury, or whether cases stem from a single supplier or multiple ones."

Because cannabis is illegal in much of the US, vapes containing THC are largely unregulated. The CDC said most of the THC-containing products that had been tied to the illnesses were obtained from "informal sources," such as people's friends or from a dealer.

The US Food and Drug Administration has been testing samples of cannabis vaping products linked to the illnesses. Some reports have suggested that vitamin E acetate found in some of the products may play a role.

A recent study of 18 THC-containing vape cartridges commissioned by NBC News found that 13 out of the 15 cartridges obtained from the illicit market contained vitamin E and that 10 contained myclobutanil, a fungicide that can turn into hydrogen cyanide when heated.

Because vaping is a relatively new practice, there's still a lot we don't know about its health effects, particularly over the long term, Business Insider's Erin Brodwin reported. Recently discovered health risks range from a heightened exposure to toxic metals to a potentially higher risk of a heart attack.

How to make someone like you in under 5 minutes, according to a relationship expert

  • The need to be liked is a fundamentally human one. And people do business with people that they like.
  • Employers should be teaching with their employees about the importance of likability and relationship building.
  • Employees should recognize the other person's experience, learn, listen, and validate it.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

We all want to be liked.

Dr. Roger Covin, a clinical psychologist (and author of The Need to be Liked) refers to our need to be liked as "a fundamental human drive that most people are born with, and it is completely normal."

So how do we take this concept of likeability and apply it to real life relationships, both in business and in our personal lives?

A research study from 2009 describes wanting to be liked as The Fundamental Principle of Liking (FPL). FPL states that at a basic level, people like others whom they believe have positive, desirable traits, such as generosity and kindness. These positive traits are at the core of building lasting relationships.

And in business circles, a popular saying is that "people do business with people they know, like, and trust." Simply put, "being liked" is a critical part of starting a new business relationship with a customer or employee.

Debra Roberts LICSW

With this in mind, employers should be teaching their employees about likability and the importance of relationship building so they can create immediate positive connections with customers and quickly be seen as trustworthy. As those relationships develop, customer retention will increase and ultimately, that customer's lifetime value will boost the company's revenue. It's a win-win and all it starts with basic training for how to be an effective communicator.

Yet, most business owners presume the training process is difficult and time-consuming, and they don't know how to teach this likability skillset to their employees. In reality, it only takes a few minutes … and it's well worth the effort.

Read more: I'm an executive headhunter and emotional intelligence expert. Here's my 3-pronged solution for making salary negotiations easier.

Whether you're a business owner who wants your employees to learn effective relationship building skills, or on a first date and hoping to have a second, here's a great five-minute "likability approach" to increase your odds for success:

A great 5-minute approach

Let's start from the beginning. By nature, people respond positively when another person makes them feel important, heard, and cared for.

This is why I always recommend that you start by listening to the other person's needs and concerns. Listen with genuine curiosity and interest. Validate their experience (i.e. their feelings) and a relationship will automatically begin to grow.

You don't necessarily have to agree with the other person's feelings or opinions, but you must respectfully and authentically acknowledge their experience in that moment … because everyone wants to feel heard and important; it lets them know they matter to you.

It's that simple.

The bottom line is: the more important the relationship is to you, the more important it is to demonstrate an understanding of the other person's experience. This is how we connect with others.

When an employer takes a few minutes to sit with an unhappy employee and tries to understand the reasons for their dissatisfaction, that's the start of a connection. The employee likes that his/her boss took time to check in. It shows concern and caring.

If a customer service rep begins a conversation with a tough customer by acknowledging the long shipping delays and apologizing for the inconvenience, rather than avoiding the potential confrontation, the conversation has a better chance of going in a positive direction. It's their responsibility to let the customer know they matter and that their happiness is important to the company. In both scenarios, the focus of the interaction is on the current experience that the employee or the customer is having. When we recognize the other person's experience, we are starting to build a relationship.

After employees use these skills, to learn, listen, and validate their customer's experience, the connection can become immediate and automatic.

While it obviously takes time to fully grow trust and feel safe in any relationship, it's a much quicker process to start by connecting and getting the other person to like you. We can create that instant connection (in five minutes or less) with an employee, a customer, or even a first date, when we make a conscious effort to actively understand the other person and connect with their experience. Regardless of the type of relationship, in business or your personal life, it's all the same strategy.

Pay attention, listen, and validate. Let the other person know that what they're saying and how they're feeling matters to you, and you'll be on your way.

'Why won't my Mac connect to Wi-Fi?': 7 ways to troubleshoot your Mac's Wi-Fi connection

$

Macbook Air

  • If your Mac won't connect to Wi-Fi, or if your connection drops out for seemingly mysterious reasons, there are several solutions you can try.
  • Here are seven ways to troubleshoot a Mac's Wi-Fi connection and get your computer back up and running.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

We've all been there. Months of easy connections and fast streaming speeds over your home Wi-Fi connection and suddenly your Mac just won't connect.

There are a lot of variables that influence why your Wi-Fi connection might drop out, from the hardware in your home or computer, to software on your computer, to issues totally out of your hands originating from your service provider.

Here's a list of things you can do narrow the list of possible culprits and get back up and running again.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

MacBook Pro (From $1,299.99 at Best Buy)

SEE ALSO: The best laptops you can buy

1. Verify that the Wi-Fi connection is the one you want

Macs sometimes skip from the Wi-Fi connections you expect to be connected to a different network. If there are other "open" networks available that don't actually provide an internet connection, that could be the source of your problem right there.

If you see the Wi-Fi symbol with the exclamation point in the middle, this means you are connected to your wireless router but you're not getting the proper DNS handshake from your internet provider.

(Now's also a good time to switch between your regular and 5Ghz network if you have both set up. Sometimes a simple switch from one to the other will restore your Wi-Fi connection.)

Finally, before escalating to other tactics, try turning your Wi-Fi connection on and off again and see if that clears things up.

2. Check Wireless Diagnostics

This is Mac OS X's built-in Wi-Fi troubleshooting tool. I've personally never had it solve a single Wi-Fi problem, but hey – maybe it will work for you – and Apple has improved the tool over the years.

You can access Wireless Diagnostics by searching for it in the Spotlight search function (as illustrated above), or by doing the following:

1. Hold down your Option key and click the wireless icon (the Wi-Fi symbol) in the status menu at the top of your screen.

2. Select "Open Wireless Diagnostics..." from the dropdown menu.

3. Select "Monitor my Wi-Fi connection" from the pop-up window and click "Continue."

You'll be presented with a detailed look at your network options and the computer will run you through a series of steps to try to identify and fix your Wi-Fi problems.

And if that doesn't work, now's a good time to set up Wireless Monitoring so your Mac can collect information on your ongoing problems. Even if the results are gobbledygook to you, they could help a technician understand your Wi-Fi problems down the line.

3. Check your System Updates

Are you running a beta version of OS X? Are there pending system updates you haven't installed yet? Try upgrading to the latest vanilla version of the operating system if the Wi-Fi is giving you fits. There could be bug fixes in there that will clear up your problem.

Read more:How to manually update your Mac computer (when you've been putting off automatic updates)

4. Check your physical hardware

Have you tried turning it off and turning it back on again?

The old "IT Crowd" joke is nonetheless often applicable to fixing your Wi-Fi connection. Unplug your cable modem and wireless router (if they're not an all-in-one unit), wait 30 seconds, then plug your cable modem back in and then your wireless router.

There are a number of reasons why this can work: your router getting bogged down with too many connections, too many different users on the network, and your internet service provider changing your IP address without your router catching up.

But you don't really need to know the why if it means getting your Wi-Fi back.

5. Change your DNS settings

Now we're getting a little more technical.

It's possible that your Wi-Fi is working fine but you aren't getting internet access because your ISP's Domain Name Server (DNS) isn't working properly.

In cases like this, try using a free, public DNS instead. Google has a good one

To try this, open Network Preferences from the Wi-Fi icon in the top menu bar or from System Preferences.

Click "Advanced." Then select DNS from the menu option, hit the plus icon (as illustrated above) and add Google DNS addresses, 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4.

Click "OK" and try browsing the internet again.

6. Reset NVRAM/PRAM and the SMC

Acronyms! Who doesn't love acronyms?

NVRAM (Non-Volatile Random-Access-Memory) and PRAM (Parameter Random-Access-Memory) are two internal Mac components that store the memory even when the device is turned off.

This is used in places like your computer's internal clock and resetting the PRAM/NVRAM can be an effective way to clear out the virtual cobwebs and get your Wi-Fi up and running again.

You should also reset the SMC (System Management Controller) while you're there for the same reason.

Resetting the PRAM/NVRAM is relatively easy:

1. For the PRAM/NVRAM, start the computer and after you hear the startup chime, hold Shift, Control, and Option keys while you press the power button on your Macbook for at least 10 seconds.

2. Immediately after you hear the startup chime, press and hold to reset the PRAM the Command + Option + P + R keys.

For older macs, release these keys after you hear the startup sound a second time; everyone else, release after the apple logo appears and disappears twice. This is also broadly true for desktop Macs.

To reset the SMC, it depends on whether you have a Mac model with a removable battery or not.

If you happen to have a removable battery, all you have to do is remove it and hold down the power button for five seconds.

On all other Macs, press Shift-Control-Option and the power button. Hold these keys and the power button for 10 seconds and release.

7. Restart your Mac

When all else fails, restart your computer. It may be the oldest trick in the book but it can work.
And if it doesn't – and you've exhausted all your other options – this may be a clue that your
connection problems are hardware related, either on your computer or at the router.

Sling TV, like YouTube TV, is aimed at people who want to "cut the cord" and eliminate cable. But like cable, Sling offers a number of subscription plans, from 30 channels for $15 per month, to 50 channels for $25 per month. For an additional $5, you can add a DVR-like recording option to record up to 50 hours of content for later playback.

fuboTV

This sports-focused service delivers over 100 channels of live local, national and international sports programming for $55 per month. Included in that price is 30 hours of DVR recording, but you can upgrade to 500 hours of recording for another $10 per month.

Hulu with Live TV

An add-on to the standard Hulu service, Hulu with Live TV offers about 80 channels, including local programming, for $45 per month. It includes 50 hours of recording storage, which you can increase to 200 hours for an additional $10 per month.

AT&T TV Now

Formerly known as DirecTV Now, the service includes several options, from 45 channels for $50 per month to more than 60 channels for $70. Every subscription includes 20 hours of recording.

Philo

Offering 58 channels of cable TV (including AMC, A&E, BET, Comedy Central, Discovery, and HGTV), Philo is among the more affordable options at $16 per month, and includes unlimited recording.

AmazonFresh vs. Prime Pantry — here's the difference between Amazon's grocery delivery services

Amazon Fresh vs Prime Pantry 4x3

  • AmazonFresh and Prime Pantry are both add-ons to Amazon Prime memberships.
  • AmazonFresh is like a digital grocery store — complete with fresh produce, perishables, items from local stores, and Whole Foods products — that you can have delivered to your doorstep. Prices are low, and orders over $35-$50 (depending on zip code) get free shipping.
  • Prime Pantry is where you can shop for single-serving pantry staples and household supplies, as well as bulk items, without high minimums or shipping fees. For $4.99 per month, you get free shipping on orders above $10. For no additional fee, you get free shipping on orders over $35. Otherwise, orders under $35 have a $5.99 shipping fee.
  • AmazonFresh members also get free shipping on all Prime Pantry orders. Start a free AmazonFresh 30-day trial here

AmazonFresh and Prime Pantry are both perks for Amazon Prime members in select areas, though they differ in what you can purchase from each service and their monthly add-on fees. However, if you belong to AmazonFresh, you already get all the advantages of Prime Pantry as an inclusion in your membership — whether you've been using them or not.

AmazonFresh is Amazon's $14.99/month grocery delivery service that lets you order fresh groceries (including perishables, produce, and Whole Foods' 365 brand products), everyday essentials, favorites from local shops and restaurants, and more delivered next-day. Shipping is $9.99 if you don't meet the local minimum, which ranges between $35-$50 depending on the area. You can start a free 30-day trial here.

Prime Pantry is free for Prime members, and it's where you get shelf-stable pantry staples and household products in everyday package sizes— like a single box of cereal, or a personal-sized snack — that would otherwise be too cheap to qualify for free shipping individually, as well bulk items that may be typically expensive to ship and obnoxious to pick up in-store. While the service is free for Prime members, you can pay $4.99 per month to get free shipping on all orders over $10. Otherwise, you have to meet the $35 minimum to get free shipping, and orders under $35 have a $5.99 shipping fee.

If you belong to AmazonFresh, you'll also automatically get free shipping on all Prime Pantry orders as an added benefit. Since AmazonFresh has a 30-day trial, you could technically test drive both services in one month — getting both free shipping on every Prime Pantry order and AmazonFresh delivery without adding any monthly fees onto your Prime membership.

Amazon Fresh vs Prime Pantry Chart

Your AmazonFresh cheat sheet

  • Who can use it: Prime members in eligible cities.
  • What you can buy: groceries (including perishables and produce), everyday essentials, favorites from local shops and restaurants
  • Cost of service: $14.99/month.
  • Delivery fee: Orders under the local minimum ($35-$50) have a $9.99 shipping fee. Those that exceed the local minimum get free shipping automatically.
  • Delivery options: Get groceries delivered to your doorstep/doorman or pick it up yourself. Pickup is available in select cities for free and without an order minimum.
    • Attended delivery: You choose a one-hour time slot when you'll be available to receive it in person, and your order will be delivered in paper bags rather than temperature-controlled totes.
    • Doorstep delivery: You choose a two-three hour time slot when Amazon can leave your items on your doorstep or with your doorman in temperature-controlled totes. Only choose this option if the delivery person can access the necessary parts of your building like the lobby.
    • Pickup (only available in select cities): Pick up your order from your chosen pickup location within the time slot you chose — for free and without an order minimum.

Main AmazonFresh perk: being able to order Whole Foods products, local favorites, and groceries (including fresh produce and perishables) to your door while paying highly competitive Amazon prices.

Read my full review of AmazonFresh for more information.

Your Prime Pantry cheat sheet

  • Who can use it: Prime members in select regions.
  • What you can buy: household items, pantry staples, and cleaning supplies in bulk or in personal sizes.
  • Cost of service: free for Prime members when orders reach $35, or $4.99/month to reduce the minimum to $10.
  • Delivery fee: Orders under $35 will have a $5.99 shipping fee, but orders over $35 get free shipping. Prime members can add a membership to Prime Pantry for $4.99/month to get free shipping on all orders over $10. AmazonFresh members get free shipping on all orders.
  • Delivery options: Depends. Prime Pantry is delivered using ground shipping, so orders take anywhere from one to four days to arrive. You can track your order.

Main Prime Pantry perk: being able to buy affordable, individually sized products that would normally not qualify for free shipping on their own, plus bulk items that often are costly to ship, without having to meet a high shipping minimum.

Read my full review of Prime Pantry for more information.

In short, AmazonFresh is like a full grocery store online — complete with fresh fruits, local favorites, and Whole Foods products — that you can get delivered to your door. Prime Pantry, like its name, is really more for pantry staples in both bulk and personal sizes. And if you have an AmazonFresh membership, you get the full perks to both services.

The 12 most-hated YouTube videos of all time, from Rebecca Black's 'Friday' to the 'Baby Shark' song

  • YouTube is home to billions of music videos, comedy skits, makeup tutorials, sports highlights, and virtually anything for your immediate entertainment.
  • But some of these videos are hated more than others: YouTube's own annual Rewind video from 2018 holds the title for the most-disliked video on the platform.
  • In an effort to understand what makes audiences band together to dislike a video, we took a look at the 12 most-hated YouTube videos, based on the number of dislikes.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

While Facebook users have been begging the platform for a dislike button for years, YouTube is one of the few social companies who have a button for the audience to easily show its displeasure.

Each video posted on YouTube comes with both a thumbs-up button and thumbs-down button for viewers to share their opinion in just one click. In some cases, users have harnessed the thumbs-down vote to flood its most-hated videos with millions of negative reactions, which have even overtaken the amount of thumbs-up votes in some cases.

A new king of most-disliked YouTube was crowned in December: YouTube itself, whose end-of-the-year Rewind video garnered widespread criticism and 16 million dislikes. Justin Bieber's "Baby" featuring Ludacris, the former first-place title holder, was kicked to second.

So what makes a video so hated to begin with? What makes millions of YouTube viewers join forces and collectively bash a song or video they watch? Let's take a look at the most-downvoted YouTube videos of all time, ranked by the number of "dislike" votes:

12. The "Johny Johny Yes Papa" nursery rhyme.

Number of dislikes: 2.7 million

Dislike percentage (of likes and dislikes combined): 35.6%

Number of views: 2.1 billion

These four words — Johny Johny Yes Papa — took meme-center-stage in August 2018. A viral tweet linked to an animated video showing a child getting caught eating sweets by his father — set to the lyrics of an old nursery rhyme called "Johny Johny Yes Papa." The video, complete with Gangnam Style- and Beyonce-like dance moves, sent the internet into a frenzy over the many animated YouTube videos set to this one childhood ditty.

Although the original video that went viral has since been scrubbed from the internet, animations set to "Johny Johny Yes Papa" have been created by a number of kid-centric YouTube channels, including the video created by LooLoo Kids that holds the No. 12 spot on this most-disliked list. It's not clear why this rendition, posted back in 2016, was subjected to so many thumbs-down reactions in particular.

11. The "How It Is (Wap Bap …)" music video.

Number of dislikes: 3 million

Percentage of dislikes vs. likes: 85.2%

Number of views: 59 million

German beauty YouTuber Bianca Heinicke — better known as Bibi's Beauty Palace— uploaded the music video for her debut single in May 2017. Viewers, as well as German music critics, quickly derided the lyrics — with lines like "I'm up and down, I feel so fat" — as rudimentary and silly. The chorus of the bubbly song is a bunch of non-sensical sounds put together over and over: "Wap-bap, ba-da-di-da-da."

However, Heinicke has called the song an "unexpected success," despite the negative reactions.

"It is very easy to spread your negative opinion on the internet," Heinicke told Metro UK. "You can't expect everyone to like the things you do or the music you like."

10. James Charles' since-deleted response video to YouTuber Tati Westbrook.

Number of dislikes (when deleted): 3.2 million

Percentage of dislikes vs. likes (when deleted): 80.9%

Number of views: Unknown

One of the biggest scandals in the YouTube community this year was the feud between popular makeup YouTubers James Charles and Tati Westbrook. Westbrook posted a video titled "Bye Sister" on May 10 about the end of her friendship with Charles, who she accused of being a "bad role model" and "manipulating someone's sexuality."

Just hours later, Charles posted a video in response to Westbrook where he apologized for his past behavior. But Charles faced lots of backlash, and hemorrhaged millions of subscribers. He deleted the response video days later, but after it had already garnered 3.2 million thumbs-down votes.

9. The 17th episode of Russian cartoon "Masha and the Bear."

Number of dislikes: 3.5 million

Percentage of dislikes vs. likes: 35.4%

Number of views: 4.1 billion

It's not entirely clear why this video is not only one of the most-disliked videos on YouTube, but also one of the most-viewed videos on the entire platform, alongside popular music videos from Ed Sheeran and Katy Perry. The seven-minute long video, uploaded in 2012, is the 17th episode of "Masha and The Bear," a Russian children's cartoon series centered around the antics of a girl and her fatherly figure, a retired circus bear.

From the comments on the YouTube video and Reddit threads, it seems a lot of the backlash — and likely, lots of the dislikes — are from users who are confused (and often furious) over why the video has so many billions of views.

8. Rebecca Black's "Friday"

Number of dislikes: 3.5 million

Percentage of dislikes vs. likes: 77.8%

Number of views: 136.3 million

Rebecca Black's "Friday" quickly became the song of the year when it debuted in September 2011, whether it was because you loved it, hated it, or just couldn't get its lyrics out of your head. The video was widely mocked and parodied, and was even dubbed "the worst video of all time."

"One minute, I was a normal girl and then, in the next, millions of people know who I was and they were ruthless in hurling the most vile words my way," Black, who was 13 at the time, wrote for NBC News in 2017. Since then, the now 22-year-old has released more music.

7. The viral "Baby Shark" song-and-dance video.

Number of dislikes: 3.8 million

Percentage of dislikes vs. likes: 27.5%

Number of views: 3.5 billion

The children's bop "Baby Shark" exploded in popularity earlier this year so drastically that it made Billboard's Top 40, but the song isn't all that new. Korean educational brand Pinkfong! is responsible for producing the banger, which it introduced to the YouTube world in June 2016 alongside its accompanied dance moves.

People may be split on their opinions of "Baby Shark," but the song became a viral meme that spread across the internet in the last year, according to Google Trends.

6. Official "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" Reveal Trailer

Number of dislikes: 3.8 million

Percentage of dislikes vs. likes: 86.3%

Number of views: 43.0 million

The introduction of the newest "Call of Duty" franchise in 2016, called "Infinite Warfare," wasn't nearly as successful as the game's mega-hits like "Black Ops" and "Modern Warfare."

Even though the trailer is pretty sub-par, that's not why this game trailer entered the ranks of most-disliked YouTube videos. "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" was released around the same time as another first-person shooter game called "Battefield 1," whose loyal fans quickly got to work liking the trailer for their game and disliking the trailer for the competing "Infinite Warfare." The campaign was wildly successful, as the trailer still sits among the most-hated videos on YouTube.

5. The song of 2017, "Despacito."

Number of dislikes: 4.2 million

Percentage of dislikes vs. likes: 11%

Number of views: 6.5 billion

If you were around in the summer of 2017 (or alive now), you may be able to understand why this video has 6.5 billion views. It played on nearly every speaker — from clubs to cabs and restaurants to bridal showers ... over and over and over again, and has since become the most-viewed video on YouTube. Of course, with so many views, the video has also accrued millions of comments and dislikes from people who weren't as big fans of the viral song.

4. PewDiePie's challenge to get 1 million dislikes

Number of dislikes: 4.3 million

Percentage of dislikes vs. likes: 93.9%

Number of views: 18.3 million

PewDiePie, the most-followed solo YouTuber, has a loyal fanbase, which was on display when he dared his followers to give his video 1 million dislikes. Viewers surpassed the goal: The video, from December 2016, now has 4.3 million dislikes.

The video starts with PewDiePie on the phone (for well over a minute), continues with him drinking a bottle of vodka, and then proceeding to ride an orange octopus through a neighborhood while shirtless. In other words, a typical PewDiePie video.

3. Jake Paul's single, "It's Everyday Bro."

Number of dislikes: 4.4 million

Percentage of dislikes vs. likes: 61.1%

Number of views: 252.1 million

Ex-Vine star Jake Paul has never been one to shy away from controversy, and he went all-in on the drama when he dropped this diss track in May 2017. The song featured his band of influencers called Team 10, took aim at his ex-girlfriend, YouTuber Alissa Violet, and boasted that Paul was so popular he would soon pass PewDiePie's subscriber count.

As expected, the song created a ton of drama in the YouTube community, and spurred many response and reaction videos from involved parties.

2. "Baby," one of Justin Bieber's first viral songs.

Number of dislikes: 10 million

Percentage of dislikes vs. likes: 45.5%

Number of views: 2.1 billion

Justin Bieber got his start thanks to his early videos posted on YouTube, but the platform wasn't as kind to him when it came to one of his first viral hits, "Baby."

In this 8-year-old video, which has over 2.1 billion views, Bieber doesn't quite have the dance moves he has now, but his signature floppy hairstyle from the early days is on full display.

1. "YouTube Rewind 2018: Everyone Controls the Rewind."

Number of dislikes: 16 million

Percentage of dislikes vs. likes: 86%

Number of views: 180.7 million

"YouTube Rewind" features hundreds of its biggest stars and celebrities, though people criticized the video, and YouTube itself, for not including some creators who experienced strings of controversy. Vlogging duo and brothers Logan and Jake Paul were excluded, as was Felix "Pewdiepie" Kjellberg, the most-followed individual on all of YouTube.

The video appears to be an attempt for the company to keep advertisers on its side following a rather rocky 2018. However, the attempt, as previously reported by Business Insider, shows "a clear schism between the expectations and reality of YouTube."

After it was released in December, the video soon became the most-disliked and fastest-disliked video in the site's history.

Forever 21 just filed for bankruptcy — and the husband and wife duo who founded it have lost nearly $4 billion from their personal net worths since 2015

Jin Sook Chang and Don Chang

The net worths of Forever 21 cofounders Jin Sook and Do Won Chang have plunged alongside the store's sales. Its founders lost their billionaire status in July according to Forbes, and the retailer filed for bankruptcy on September 29.

At the company's peak in 2015, Jin Sook and Do Won Chang had a combined net worth of $5.9 billion, according to Forbes. Their combined fortune has fallen to $1.6 billion — or $800 million each — as the fast fashion chain enters bankruptcy proceedings. Forever 21 will close 350 stores ac cross the globe, but will continue to operate in select locations and online.

"We are confident this is the right path for the long-term health of our business," Forever21 said in a letter to customers published on its website. "Once we complete a reorganization, Forever 21 will be a stronger, more viable company that is better positioned to prosper for years to come."

The married couple founded Forever 21 in Los Angeles in 1984 after emigrating from South Korea three years prior. Their first location, originally called Fashion 21, was 900 square feet and stocked merchandise the Changs purchased at wholesale close-out sales, according to Forbes.

In June, Business Insider's Bethany Biron visited a Forever 21 store and its fast-fashion rival H&M in New York's Westfield World Trade Center mall and found that H&M's well-lit and organized store drew more shoppers than Forever 21's sparsely stocked subterranean location.

Forever 21 is privately held and does not release its sales numbers, but the fast-fashion giant has recently closed stores in major markets, including London and China, Business Insider previously reported. Forever 21 stores in the US have also begun to shrink in the US, Forbes reported, as several two-story mall locations gave their second floor to other stores, including Dave & Buster's and Ulta Beauty.

I got into a Monaco Yacht Show gala for VIP superyacht buyers and industry elite. Here's what it was like at the exclusive party, which overlooked $4.3 billion worth of superyachts in the port.

The Monaco Yacht Show kicked off on Wednesday, drawing an estimated 30,000 people from around the world to the tiny city-state on the French Riviera.

These attendees are yachting-industry insiders — including superyacht builders, designers, and brokers — as well as wealthy private clients looking to tour, charter, or purchase yachts.

The night before the show kicked off, a select group of VIP guests was invited to an inaugural gala held at the Monaco Yacht Club, overlooking the more than $4.3 billion worth of yachts docked in Port Hercules.

There were about 350 people there, including superyacht builder CEOs, yacht-brokerage companies, yacht owners, prospective buyers, charter customers, and other VIP guests, according to Johan Pizzardini, the communications and media manager for the Monaco Yacht Show.

I got an invite to the exclusive event — here's what it was like.

DON'T MISS: 100 bottles of Champagne, 35 ounces of caviar, and a 255-foot superyacht: Here's what it takes to throw a party for millionaires and celebs at the Monaco Yacht Show

The Monaco Yacht Show kicked off on Wednesday, displaying its largest fleet of yachts ever in the glamorous port of Monaco, a tiny yet lavishly wealthy city-state on the French Riviera.

The trade show brings an estimated 30,000 people to Monaco, including superyacht builders, designers, and brokers, as well as wealthy private clients looking to tour, charter, or purchase yachts.

The evening before the show starts, an inaugural gala is held at the Monaco Yacht Club, which overlooks Port Hercules.

This year, the gala's roughly 350 guests were made up of yachting-industry insiders like yacht brokerages and yacht-building CEOs, as well as other VIP guests of the yacht show, including yacht owners and prospective buyers, according to Johan Pizzardini, the communications and media manager for the Monaco Yacht Show.

In Monaco for the yacht show, I got an invite to the ultra-exclusive gala.

My train was late from the nearby French city of Nice, where I was staying, so I ended up speed-walking in heels through the streets of Monaco from the train station to the yacht club, where I arrived looking quite sweaty.

There is no Uber in Monaco, and taxis are few and far between, so walking was my best option.

I made it to the port area and walked along the quai, where I saw dozens of white tents set up for the Monaco Yacht Show that would kick off the next day.

The event started at 8 p.m. When I arrived around 8:20, people were milling about outside on the deck of the yacht club, chatting, with glasses of Champagne in hand.

The dress code was cocktail attire. The men wore suits, and women were dressed in both short and long dresses, all in heels.

Every woman seemed to be carrying either a Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, or other designer handbag. Everyone looked incredibly chic.

Guests could grab a glass of Champagne from the bar or from servers who weaved through the crowd, carrying trays of bubbly.

I enjoyed my glass and looked out over the port, where more than 125 yachts were assembled ahead of the show.

More than $4.3 billion worth of yachts were gathered in Monaco's port for the 2019 yacht show, with an average asking price of $41.3 million.

It was the largest Monaco Yacht Show ever by number of yachts and by their total value, according to Pizzardini.

A little after 8:30, people started to filter inside, where rows of chairs were set up in front of a stage in preparation for the awards ceremony.

Four awards would be handed out this evening: one for the best interior design, one for exterior design, one for "the finest new superyacht," and one for the most eco-friendly yacht.

The entire awards ceremony was quick, lasting barely 20 minutes.

Then everyone was instructed to head upstairs to the fifth floor of the yacht club, where food, drinks, and music were awaiting us.

A few people stopped on the way to pose for photos in front of the yachts.

I squeezed into an elevator with a group of guests to head up to the top floor of the club.

When I stepped out onto the fifth floor, the dramatic clublike lighting made it clear that this was going to be a real party.

A DJ was already playing a mix of upbeat pop and lounge music.

A Monaco Yacht Show photographer was taking photos of groups of friends in front of an official backdrop listing the show's sponsors.

Everyone at the party seemed to already know each other. I saw people reacting in surprise as they ran into friends, delightedly asking them questions about when they got into town and what their plans for the show were.

At an open bar, bartenders were serving Champagne, wine, and beer.

Throughout the party, I saw servers constantly running back and forth with extra bottles of Champagne.

Many people were already eating. Some were seated around a large rectangular table with a flaming compass in the middle that I initially thought was some sort of DIY grill but instead just seemed to be ... for fun?

A huge buffet table stretched across one side of the room. Chefs were making risotto and ravioli dishes in real time, serving them upon request in small individual bowls.

I was overwhelmed by the array of food. There were cheese platters, dumplings, multiple types of salad, sushi and sashimi, grilled vegetables, and so much more.

I filled my plate with ravioli, cheese, grilled vegetables, quinoa salad, and salmon. The food was so good that I probably could've eaten three more plates.

There were no free tables on the main floor, so I ate standing up at a table on the upstairs deck overlooking the party.

A couple came over to share my table, and we chatted briefly while we ate.

They told me they were from Ohio, and I asked if they were at the show to buy a yacht. Actually, they told me, they already own one that's based in the Bahamas. (It was unharmed during Hurricane Dorian, they assured me, because it wasn't in the Bahamas at the time.)

They told me they were at the yacht show looking for a charter they could cruise in the Mediterranean.

I told them I was a journalist — and soon after that, perhaps realizing we had very little in common, they moved off to continue enjoying the party.

While most people remained downstairs, small groups came up to relax on the upper deck of the yacht club, enjoying the relative quiet, the fresh air, and the views of the glittering port.

A photo booth was set up so guests could pose in front of Port Hercules' billions of dollars' worth of yachts.

At about 10:30, it was time for me to catch my train back to Nice. The party was scheduled to end at 11, and it already seemed close to winding down. Everyone there had a big day ahead of them at the yacht show.

Outside, rows of private cars were parked in front of the yacht club. I spotted a black sedan that said "Monaco Yacht Show Courtesy Car" on the side.

I knocked on the window and asked the driver hopefully if he could give me a ride to the train station.

"Only if you have this badge," the driver told me, flashing said special badge. "Sorry."

I later learned that the cars were reserved for those who pay about $2,700 for the yacht show's VIP Sapphire Experience.

So I walked to the train station, across ankle-twisting cobblestones and up many, many stairs (Monaco is built on a rather steep hillside), feeling decidedly non-VIP. It certainly wouldn't be the last time throughout my stay in Monaco that I would be keenly aware that the city offers one experience for the 1% and an entirely different experience for the rest of us.

If you own an Apple Watch, you know how convenient the device can be for keeping you connected, even when you're not paying attention to your iPhone or don't have it directly in front of you.

From importing emails to receiving texts and even voice calls, an Apple Watch can keep you connected to the features and apps you use most on your iPhone, and alert you to important notifications.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

Apple Watch Series 5 (From $399 at Best Buy)

iPhone 11 (From $699.99 at Best Buy)

What does the red dot on an Apple Watch mean?

You may have noticed a red dot on the top of your Apple Watch — this signifies that you have unread notifications.

It's fairly simple to check these notifications, and remove the red dot so you're all caught up.

Here's how to do it.

How to check notifications on your Apple Watch

1. With your watch face turned on, swipe down from the top of your screen to display the notifications you have received.

IMG_8472

2. To read each individual notification, tap them one by one. Note that if you have several notifications, you can scroll through them by using the digital crown on your Apple Watch.

3. To delete the notification, swipe left on your watch and then hit the X key. You can also delete it by scrolling down and tapping on "Dismiss" at the bottom of the screen.

How to turn off the red dot for notifications on your Apple Watch

If you no longer want the red dot to appear whenever you have notifications, you can disable this feature via the Watch app on your iPhone

Simply tap the Notifications option under My Watch and toggle the Notifications Indicator button to off.

You can re-enable this feature at any time by toggling the button to on, which will turn it green.

Apple has always ensured it's possible to take screenshots on its various products, and the Apple Watch is no exception.

If you want to capture your watch's display as a screenshot, it takes just two fingers.

But since it's easy to do by accident, this feature is turned off by default. You'll have to start by enabling screenshots in the Apple Watch app on your iPhone

Here's how to do it.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

Apple Watch Series 5 (From $399 at Best Buy)

2. Make sure you're on the My Watch tab by tapping "My Watch" at the bottom of the screen.

How to find your Apple Watch screenshots

After taking a screenshot, it's immediately stored on your iPhone in the Photos app. There are two ways to get to the screenshot.

  • Open the Camera app and tap the Camera Roll in the bottom left corner. The screenshot should be the most recent image in the camera roll.

  • Property records show Musk sold the Brentwood home for $3.9 million in late August after listing it for $4.5 million in February.

Elon Musk has sold his four-bedroom, three-bath home that overlooks the city of Los Angeles, property records show.

Variety first reported that the home was sold in late August for $3.9 million — below the original asking price of $4.5 million. Business Insider has also confirmed that sale, based on property records for the home.

Despite the price chop, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO still stands to make a roughly $400,000 profit on the property Musk bought in 2013 with now ex-wife Talulah Riley.

Take a look inside the open-layout home, with massive windows and a spacious backyard:

The home is located in Brentwood, about 15 miles Northwest of Downtown Los Angeles.

It's on an odd-shaped triangle lot, but makes full use of the compact space.

Large privacy hedges help the home stay secluded despite how close it is to the street.

Once inside, huge floor-to-ceiling windows let in natural light to the open living space.

The sleek "cook's kitchen" opens right into the living room, and has plenty of counter space for entertaining.

The second-floor master bedroom is just as sun-drenched as the rest of the house, with a massive walk-in closet.

Nestled in the corner of the boomerang-shaped house is a backyard that is divided only by even more large windows.

The saltwater pool, hot tub, and patio areas are "ideal for relaxing," the real estate agency says.

A new streaming service is joining the ranks of Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and the many other services jostling for control of your TV. Disney+ will feature TV and movie content from names we're all well familiar with: Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Television.

Learn more below about how the Disney+ streaming service works, including what shows and movies will be included, how much it costs, and when it launches.

What is Disney+?

Disney+ is an on-demand, ad-free streaming service created by The Walt Disney Company.

With Disney+, subscribers can watch thousands of Disney movies and series from their devices (smart TVs, phones, laptops, tablets, and gaming consoles). The service includes unlimited downloads so you can watch anywhere, anytime.

Disney+ content will come from Walt Disney Studios' and Walt Disney Television's biggest names: Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and 20th Century Fox.

Who should sign up for Disney+?

Disney+ is the perfect service for Disney fans, whether they're Marvel geeks or animation aficionados. It's especially suitable for families with children who want to immerse themselves in the vast world of Disney.

If you're someone who always ends up searching for Disney shows and movies on another streaming service anyway, you might want to consider subscribing to Disney+ because it holds all that content in one convenient place.

What shows and movies can I watch on Disney+?

disney plus

In short, all of the Disney shows and movies that have already been released. You can cry through all four "Toy Story" movies, learn about the world around you through a Nat Geo documentary, and satisfy your comedic itch with an episode of "The Simpsons." You'll have access to classics like "Snow White" along with recent hits like "Black Panther."

Disney+ will also include all-new, exclusive original programming, such as a "Star Wars" TV series focused on a Mandalorian bounty hunter, a retelling of "Lady and the Tramp" featuring Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux, and a new perspective on the familiar objects in our lives through "The World According to Jeff Goldblum." The strong lineup of original Disney content alone could make a Disney+ subscription worth it.

How much does Disney+ cost?

Disney+ costs $6.99 per month, or $69.99 per year ($5.83/month). This low price includes hours of entertainment spanning many different genres and interests, and best of all, it's all ad-free.

Before you commit to this cost, you get a seven-day free trial.

When is the release date for Disney+?

Disney+ is launching on November 12, 2019. In the meantime, you can sign up for updates on the Disney+ preview website.

How does Disney+ compare to other streaming services?

While services such as Netflix and Hulu cast a wide net over movie and TV entertainment, Disney+ is much more focused and narrow in scope by revolving entirely around Disney content. Luckily, it doesn't actually feel that limited since Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Television create everything from animated kids' movies to action and sci-fi thrillers. At this point, it's difficult to find someone who isn't a Disney fan in some capacity — with Disney+, there's a movie or series for everyone.

It's a major plus that Disney+ (for the time being) is launching with zero ads. We don't know whether that will change down the line, or whether it will add tiered ad pricing like some other streaming services, but in the meantime, we always appreciate ad-free streaming.

At less than $10 a month, it's very affordable compared to major competitors. If you find the Disney content of other streaming services lacking, subscribing to Disney+ is an affordable way to fix that problem.

Of all the major streaming services, it's also the most generous in the areas of multiple-device streaming and profile additions. You can stream on up to four devices simultaneously and add up to seven profiles.

How do I sign up for Disney+?

You can sign up on the Disney+ website.

While you can sign up early, we recommend waiting because a bundled package with Hulu and ESPN+ will only be available once the service officially launches on November 12. This bundle will cost only $12.99 a month for all three services. Individually, the ad-supported version of Hulu is currently $5.99 a month, and ESPN+ is $4.99 a month. If you haven't explored the world of streaming services full yet, the bundle could be the perfect opportunity to do so for a competitive price.

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin are tying the knot for a second time — and they're just one of many younger couples dropping serious cash on multiple wedding ceremonies and breaking marriage traditions

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin are tying the knot — again.

The two got hitched in a Manhattan courthouse in September 2018. Now, they're holding a second wedding ceremony on September 30, 2019, in South Carolina, reported Amanda Arnold and Marie Lodi for Vulture. Ahead of their "I do" redo, Bieber even took to Instagram to share a throwback photo with his wife and her parents, thanking his in-laws for allowing their daughter to "marry a savage like [him]."

They're just one of many millennial couples throwing multiple wedding ceremonies. It's a rising trend among couples tying the knot, reported Jessica Schiffer for The New York Times.

"Multiceremony wedding experiences are becoming more common among couples looking to accommodate different cultural and religious backgrounds, not to mention guests who may not be able to afford pricey destination weddings," Schiffer wrote.

More than half of couples today are marrying someone with a different background, which has reduced the perception that multiple ceremonies are "over the top," Schiffer said, citing stats from WeddingWire. New York wedding planner Jove Meyer told Schiffer that 15% of his clients in the past year have had at least two ceremonies.

According to WeddingWire, the national average cost for weddings is around $38,700, but that hikes up to an average cost of $50,000 when multiple ceremonies are involved — with some exceeding $100,000, Schiffer wrote. Costs can get high, she said, because cultural celebrations can be elaborate and have lengthy guest lists.

For example, Indian wedding celebrations last for days and Japanese brides have several costume changes, according to Business Insider's Abby Rogers.

But some couples keep things more low-key, which lowers costs — one couple Schiffer spoke to had an unofficial wedding ceremony in France and a backyard and beach celebration in California, all for $11,000.

Couples are also implementing a few boundaries, like not overlapping guest lists across celebrations and not throwing any ceremonies past the one-year mark, Schiffer said.

But that's not the only way couples, millennials in particular, are changing love and marriage. They're waiting longer in their relationships to get married — 4.9 years on average, reported Kristin Salaky for INSIDER, citing a Bridebook study. They're also getting married at a later age, according to INSIDER's Kim Renfro.

A delay in marriage has given couples more time to acquire their own assets — as a result, more couples are signing prenups before marriage to protect these assets in the event of a divorce.

And when they do get married, they tend to ditch traditional weddings, opting for unconventional venues such as barns and farms over banquet halls and hotel reception rooms, reported Business Insider's Mary Hanbury.
