Meet StockX, the sneaker resale startup making sure you never get scammed when buying collectible shoes online

Insider Picks writes about products and services to help you navigate when shopping online. Insider Inc. receives a commission from our affiliate partners when you buy through our links, but our reporting and recommendations are always independent and objective.

StockX

  • Founded in 2015, StockX is an online marketplace for buying and selling sneakers, streetwear, watches, and designer handbags.
  • The website acts as a middleman between buyers and sellers, making otherwise potentially shady resale market transactions safe and secure. StockX authenticates all products before they're sent to you, so you never have to worry about scammers and fake items.
  • StockX also provides both buyers and sellers with usable data like current market value, number of items sold, and loss or gain on items. The information can be used to ensure you never overpay or undersell.
  • As a shoe collector, I've been using StockX for a few years now, and it's the most convenient and fail-safe way to buy and sell sneakers and more.

As a sneaker collector, I've been buying and selling sneakers online for a little over 10 years. Things have come a long way from sending postal money orders to people you met on forums with the hope they'll actually send you the shoes in return, or meeting up with strangers to do in-person transactions. But there are still many shady sellers, and fakes are getting even harder to point out.

Although I've never gotten the short end of the stick while navigating the murky waters of the online resale market, not everyone is so lucky. Now, with the help of a new startup called StockX, resale transactions are a lot safer — and in some instances, more affordable.

Found in 2015 by Josh Luber, StockX is a self-proclaimed "stock market of things." The website makes buying things like sneakers, streetwear, watches, and designer handbags safe and secure by acting as a middleman between you and the seller. I've been using StockX for a few years now and, in my opinion, it's the most seamless way to buy or sell sneakers in the online resale market.

StockX

Here's how it works as a buyer:

There are literally thousands of items to choose from on StockX. Once you find an item you're interested in, you can either buy it immediately for the current lowest asking price or submit a bid and wait for one of the many sellers with the same item to accept the offer. It's worth noting that StockX requires you to link to a payment method (PayPal or a credit/debit card) when placing bids. You'll only be charged if and when your bid is accepted. This is put in place to rid the marketplace of meaningless offers from flakers.

After your purchase is confirmed, the seller has two business days to ship your item out for professional authentication at StockX. I personally love that sellers are held accountable for timely shipping because nobody likes to wait a long time for items to arrive. Once your item arrives at StockX, it's marked with a green "verified authentic" tag and it's shipped out to you. You can track the status of your order (shipped by seller, authentication in progress, shipped to you, etc.) online.

As a buyer, you'll be able to keep track of current offers placed, pending purchases, and past purchases. Since it shows a collective amount of how much you've spent, you'll be less likely to spend your life savings on sneakers and streetwear.

Take a look at my history to see the breakdown of past purchases:

StockX buying

Here's how it works as a seller:

You have an item — let's say a luxury bag or a pair of sneakers — that you want to sell. Search the item on StockX and select the size you have. From there you, can sell it immediately for the highest current bid or submit an asking price and wait for someone to pay it. This feature is especially good if you have an item that you don't need to sell right away and believe it will appreciate in value over time.

Once someone purchases your item, StockX will email you a pre-paid shipping label and packing slip to include in the box. You'll have two business days to get the package sent out or StockX will charge you a small fee. Once StockX confirms that your item is authentic and in brand new condition for sneakers and streetwear or excellent pre-owned condition for watches and handbags, your funds will be released to you. StockX does take out a transaction fee starting at about 10%, but as your seller level increases, the percentage decreases. After that, StockX is responsible for delivering the package to the buyer.

In my opinion, the small transaction fee isn't a deal breaker. Realistically, StockX has to get paid, and it's still a smaller amount than what eBay or a sneaker consignment shop would take.

The same way you can keep track your purchases, you can also keep track of current, pending, and past sales. StockX provides you with details on your number of sales, how much revenue you've generated, and your authentication percentage.

Take a look at my seller history:

StockX selling

The middleman feature is great for security, but what makes the website like a stock market?

For every item listed, StockX has tons of usable information like release date, retail price, how many units have sold, previous sale prices, and more. The data can help you as a buyer to better assess the market so you'll never overpay. And if you're savvy, you'll learn to use data on previous releases to predict the value on future releases.

I personally have never paid more than retail for sneakers, so I like to use StockX to get certain shoes for below retail. If there's a shoe that I want to buy and it's been sitting on shelves at retailers but is still full price, StockX usually has a lower price. While retailers tend to wait a long time in order to mark down inventory by the bunch, StockX will have a price listed that's closer to real-time market value.

Alternatively, the data works great as a seller. Let's use the last pair of sneakers I sold, the Union Los Angeles x Air Jordan 1, as an example. I sold my pair for $803 12 days after the release, but the market value peaked at $1,520 five days before the shoe released to the public. Today, more than two months after the release, the lowest asking price is currently $609. You can use data trends like this to determine when is the best time to sell your item to maximize profit.

For consumers who are willing to pay resale prices, the data helps them get the best prices. At $609, that's still a lot more than the $190 retail price, but it beats eBay where there are pairs currently listed for up to $1,900.

Don't get me wrong, eBay is a treasure trove for sneakers and fashion (and really anything else you can think of), but it sometimes takes a lot more skill and patience to use. As a buyer, you have to weed out fakes, enter auctions, message sellers with questions, and much more. As a seller, you also have to spend time taking pictures, writing a description, and formatting listings, compared to making a sale with just a few clicks on StockX.

StockX

What I like best about StockX is its convenience and ability to remove human error from the buying and selling process. Since StockX holds sellers accountable for what's being sent to them and items are double checked before being sent to you, you'll never receive the wrong item, the wrong size, or a poorly packed product.

I also really appreciate how personal StockX is for users. In addition to the surface-level data on the buying and selling tabs, you can take a more granular look at all of your purchases in your portfolio and manually add other shoes you have in your collection, even if you didn't purchase them all on StockX.  This makes it easy to manage the inventory of your collection, its current market value, and whether you've lost or gained money on it.

While I've only used StockX for sneakers, the brand's decision to expand to streetwear, watches, and handbags was a step in the right direction as these categories also have huge resale markets.

StockX

You'll find apparel from brands like Supreme, Ba pe, and KITH, watches ranging from G-Shocks and Apple Watches to Rolexes and Omegas, and designer bags from Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel, and more.

No matter what level of knowledge and enthusiasm you have for fashion, StockX is a fool-proof way to buy authentic styles in the resale market. Whether you're a seasoned sneakerhead, fashion expert, or a newcomer in need of direction, you can rest assured knowing that all transactions on StockX will be smooth.

How to delete anything you've posted on Facebook, or hide posts by others

0

Facebook Messenger

  • You can delete any post on Facebook that you created yourself.
  • It's easy to delete a post by choosing "Delete" from the three-dot menu on the Facebook app or your web browser.
  • You can hide posts made by other people so they won't appear in your Facebook feed, but you cannot delete them.

You wouldn't be a citizen of the 21st century if you had never posted something on social media that you later regretted.

But no matter your reason for wanting to remove a Facebook post — it's inaccurate, embarrassing, unflattering, something you wouldn't want an employer to see, or any of a hundred other reasons — you can permanently delete a post you've made on Facebook with just a tap or a click.

How to delete a Facebook post on your phone

1. Open the Facebook app.

2. Go to your timeline by tapping the hamburger menu (the three horizontal lines on the bottom right) and tap your name.

3. Find the post you want to delete and tap the three dots on the upper right of the post.

4. Tap "Delete." Facebook will then ask you to confirm that this is really what you want to do — tap "Delete Post" to confirm.

How to delete a Facebook post on your computer

1. Go to Facebook in your web browser.

2. Go to your timeline by clicking your name at the top of the window, just to the right of Facebook's search box.

3. Find the post you want to delete and tap the three dots on the upper right of the post.

4. Tap "Delete." Facebook will confirm that this is really what you want to do. Tap "Delete" to permanently remove it.

post 2

How to hide Facebook posts created by others

Of course, you can only delete posts you have created yourself — you don't have the power to delete something that was posted to Facebook by someone else.

But if you don't like a post that you're tagged or mentioned in, you could ask the person who created it to edit or delete it. Alternately, you have two other options:

  • You can hide it from your timeline. This isn't the same as deleting the post — and in fact, it may still appear in other people's timelines — but you can keep it from showing up in your own. To do that, click or tap the three dots on the upper right of the post and choose "Hide from timeline."

post 3

  • If you're tagged in the post, you can remove the tag. This will prevent it from appearing in your timeline and from searches that include posts with your tag. To do that, click or tap the three dots on the upper right of the post and choose "Remove tag."

NOW WATCH: We tried Louis Vuitton's wireless earbuds to find out if they're worth the $995

I pay $450 a year for a Hilton credit card, and I just earned half that fee back in a single night

Personal Finance Insider writes about products, strategies, and tips to help you make smart decisions with your money. Business Insider may receive a commission from The Points Guy Affiliate Network, but our reporting and recommendations are always independent and objective.

Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card

The premium Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Cardhas a hefty $450 annual fee, but it comes with so many perks, benefits, and rebates that it's more than worth paying for Hilton loyalists.

One of the immediate perks that offers some value back for that annual fee: an annual free weekend night certificate.

That certificate comes each year, and unlike some other credit cards, you get it regardless of how much you spend on the card.

I got the Aspire card in October and just used my first free weekend night certificate — the process was easier than I expected.

Although you theoretically get the free night certificate right away, mine came a little less than two months after I opened the card — if I had a pressing need for it, I could have called AmEx and asked for it sooner, but as it was, I didn't have any immediate plans to make a weekend reservation.

I got two separate emails: One from AmEx telling me to look out for the reward, and another from Hilton with the details — in particular, the certificate number and the expiration date. Certificates expire after one year.

To use the certificate, call the Hilton Honors desk at 1-800-4HONORS (1-800-446-6677), and let the representative know what day you're looking to book.

You can combine your free weekend night with a paid — cash or points — stay, too. The representative will make separate reservations for the free and paid nights, but link them together so that it's effectively just one stay.

Keep in mind that you can only use the free night if there's availability at the hotel, though as long as you book enough in advance, you shouldn't have an issue. Also note that there are a handful of excluded hotels— other than those, there are no restrictions on where you use it.

My wife and I spent this past weekend in Edinburgh, Scotland, and decided to use the free night reward at Hilton's flagship property in the city: The Waldorf Astoria Caledonian.

Waldorf Astoria Caledonian Edinburgh Scotland Hotel

The value of the free night reward obviously depends on which hotel you redeem it at. For the night we used the certificate, the Caledonian had a paid rate of £179.55, or about $235, plus taxes, so using the certificate here got me more than half of the value of this year's annual fee back.

At least, that was the rate we would have paid for the original room we booked, a Queen Premier Room. Another benefit of the Hilton Aspire Card is that you'll automatically get Diamond elite status in the Hilton Honors program, which, among other things, gets you space-available upgrades whenever you stay at a Hilton property.

Waldorf Astoria Caledonian Edinburgh Scotland Hotel

There was upgrade space available this time — we were upgraded to a King Premier Room, which was larger overall and had a king-size bed.

Waldorf Astoria Caledonian Edinburgh Scotland Hotel

We mostly spent the trip seeing friends or enjoying a weekend of unusually nice weather, but still took some time to enjoy the hotel itself. The Peacock Alley lobby lounge had tasty cocktails and pastries for afternoon tea, while the Caley Bar was a great, chic spot for a nightcap before bed.

Waldorf Astoria Caledonian Edinburgh Scotland Hotel

We also had breakfast included, another benefit of Hilton Diamond status.

The Hilton Aspire card has a number of other useful benefits, including an annual resort credit up to $250 and a  Hilton on-property credit up to $100 any time you book a two-night (or longer) stay at a luxury Hilton property through a specific website for cardholders.

However, the free night is one of the easiest to use, and can make it easy to get a big value back from the card.

Dozens of female Microsoft employees claim they deal with shocking behavior at work: requests to sit on a coworker's lap, being called a 'b*tch' (MSFT)

Satya Nadella

  • Dozens of women inside Microsoft complained on a long email string of their treatment at the company, according to media reports.
  • The string included some pretty shocking accusations of things women experienced such as being called names and having complaints be shrugged off by male managers and HR.
  • Microsoft's top HR exec reportedly commented on the email thread, saying senior leadership was "appalled" by the stories.
  • All if this comes against the backdrop of a lawsuit Microsoft is successfully fighting that alleges rampant sexual harassment and discrimination at the company
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

Even as Microsoft is successfully fighting against an attempted class action lawsuit alleging rampant sexual discrimination at the company, some women inside the company have begun to loudly complain about their treatment.

In an email chain spanning more than 90 pages, women inside the company are sharing stories, some of them shocking, reports Quartz's Dave Gershgorn.

The email string began on March 20 when a female employee asked another for advice about advancement after spending six years in the same position with no promotion in sight. As the email was shared, dozens of women chimed in, expressing their own frustrating about advancement and sharing stories of other things they experienced at work, Quartz reports.

Read: One of the world's most important programmers, Linus Torvalds, says Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are 'a disease'

For instance, one woman claims that she was told to sit on a coworker’s lap in front of a human resources leader during a work trip.

Another said that she has been called a "b*tch" multiple times in the Xbox, Windows & Azure organizations, and alleged that during "roundtable" meetings other women reported the same experience.

One alleged that when she reported a terrifying incident by a Microsoft partner (not an employee) who threatened her, her male manager dismissed the threats as "just flirting" and told her to "get over it" and HR shrugged it off since the man was a partner, not an employee.

Microsoft did not immediately return Business Insider's request for comment.

The article details more such stories from women, ranging from how they were belittled through work assignments to sexist comments during work trips.

The string was eventually sent to Kathleen Hogan, Microsoft’s head of human resources who replied saying she discussed it with senior leadership and was "appalled." She promised that anyone could come to her directly to report such instances and that she would personally look into them with her team.

But Microsoft's investigations of sexual harassment or gender discrimination claims have been criticized in the past.

The company is successfully fighting a lawsuit right now brought by three women who claim that Microsoft didn't fully investigate 238 internal complaints of sexual harassment and discrimination. The plaintiffs also claim women are systematically underpaid at Microsoft. Microsoft has consistently denied there are merits to the case and says it is committed to equal treatment of women.

In January, a judge ruled in favor of Microsoft and denied class-action status to the case. That means that other women can't join the case. They would have to sue Microsoft on their own, the lawyers for the case say.

NOW WATCH: We tried Louis Vuitton's wireless earbuds to find out if they're worth the $995

This $130 exercise device mimics what NASA sends into space with astronauts — I thought it was gimmicky at first, but I'm still using it 2 months later

Insider Picks writes about products and services to help you navigate when shopping online. Insider Inc. receives a commission from our affiliate partners when you buy through our links, but our reporting and recommendations are always independent and objective.

OYO

  • A high-quality exercise device is easy to use, motivates you enough to keep you coming back to it, and provides noticeable improvements to your health.
  • I like the OYO Personal Gym because you can adjust the resistance to really push yourself, and it comes with access to dozens of workout videos, including the 10-Week Challenge.
  • Though it's more expensive than some home gym equipment (currently starting at $129.95 on Amazon), it's more affordable than a gym membership, is backed by a full three-year warranty, and you can easily bring it with you when traveling.

From the Shake Weight to the Thighmaster to the Body Blade, there are countless gimmicky exercise devices that prey on people trying to turn over a new leaf in their physical fitness. Most of this equipment is eventually donated to secondhand stores where they serve as just another exhibit in the "Museum of Fitness Fads Gone Bad."

At first, I thought the OYO Personal Gym was going to be another of these short-lived crazes. But, after coming back to it time and again for the last 60 days, my opinion has changed. Read on to learn more about my experiences with this device.

OYO fitness 3

My first experiences with the OYO Personal Gym

OYO sent me both versions of their personal gym to test: the Pro and the LE. Both options come with two 10-pound and one five-pound flex packs, leg and door anchors, an exercise wall chart, and a nutrition guide. Both are backed by a full three-year warranty. The OYO Personal Gym works by providing between 10 and 25 pounds of resistance as you push it together or pull it apart with your hands or with the attachments. You adjust the resistance using the flex packs provided.

The Pro version of the gym costs $50 more than the LE and connects to the OYO app on iOS devices via Bluetooth. The app keeps track of how many reps you have completed, logs your workouts, and offers coaching advice based on your workouts.

The same technology astronauts use in space

For this review, I had the opportunity to talk to former astronaut Dr. Leroy Chiao, who spent over six months on the International Space Station and is a spokesperson for the OYO Personal Gym. "When up in orbit, it's very important to exercise," Dr. Chiao said. "On Earth, if you miss a workout, you at least walk around a bit to work the muscles. In space, it's more like you're laying in bed for months at a time. Without exercise, your muscles quickly atrophy and your bones demineralize."

"When I was up in space, I used what was called the iRED, or Interim Resistive Exercise Device," Dr. Chiao continued. "I came back physically stronger in each physical test, and I had immeasurable bone loss in the bone density scan. This was a testament to the effectiveness of the iRED."

"Fairly recently, Paul Francis (founder and CEO of OYO Fitness) got in touch with me to let me know he created the iRED and had patented the SpiraFlex technology and used it in the OYO. I became very interested." Dr. Chiao now brings the OYO with him when he's traveling so he can get his exercise in.

OYO

How the OYO Personal Gym performed

At first, it took a little getting used to the OYO. Specifically, when I was transitioning from pulling the ball-like handles out to pushing them together, I had to make sure that the dowels attached to the handles were back to their original position, or else I couldn't squeeze the device together properly. After the first couple of workouts, I had the hang of it and rarely ran into trouble with this.

I really liked that OYO made it clear where I should start by offering the 10-Week Challenge. This is a series of 36 workout videos that feature a broad array of exercises performed in three to five circuits. Each exercise lasts approximately 30 seconds for the first three weeks. Then, OYO Director of Fitness Nick Bolton ups it to one minute per exercise. And, with week 5, the challenge shifts from three workouts per week to four.

Since I had other training regimens I had to stay on top of for roller derby, I didn't stick with the schedule of the 10-Week Challenge, but I still got a lot out of progressing through it. As of this writing, I'm through week 7 of the challenge.

I received the OYO right as the Michigan weather made outdoor exercise virtually unbearable. Fortunately, this device made it so I didn't have to step outdoors to get a dripping-sweat workout. I got in the habit of working out first thing in the morning – before I was awake enough to talk myself out of it. I found it was an excellent way to start the day. It got my blood flowing and helped me keep my focus throughout the day.

OYO

Some concerns about the device

I was not a fan of the OYO app. First of all, all of my devices are Android so I had to borrow my wife's phone to use the app. I had to reconnect each time I used the OYO device, which took a few tries. I didn't find the rep tracking to be all that helpful, and I already keep a log of my workouts in a spreadsheet so I didn't need the log feature. If you do go with the Pro version and want to follow the workouts, I recommend casting your device onto a larger screen. It's difficult and awkward to try to watch the videos on a small iPhone screen.

I found the leg attachments and door anchors were only marginally useful. I didn't use the door anchors at any point. None of the 10-Week Challenge exercise videos I followed used them. The leg attachments were cumbersome. They were okay attached to the ankles during hip opening and squeezing exercises, but beyond that, it got dicey.

Specifically, the single-leg kickback was the bane of my existence. I was supposed to attach one leg attachment to my bicep and the other to my ankle then kick back while on my hands and knees. The attachment did not fit on my large bicep. So, I put it on my wrist. The motion was still so uncomfortable that I had to modify the exercise.

The bottom line

Overall, I am surprised by how helpful the OYO Personal Gym is. As a runner, cyclist, and roller derby skater, I primarily focus on my legs and have neglected my upper body for decades. Consequently, I suffer from chronic back pain. The OYO Personal Gym changed all of this. Now, I have an easy way to fit a challenging full-body workout into my fitness regimen without having to leave my home. I strongly recommend the OYO to anyone interested in improving their overall physical fitness. I also suggest that you seriously commit to the 10-Week Challenge if you do give the OYO a shot.

A lawyer who reps cruise-ship workers reveals the most shocking thing he's heard about their job

cruise ship food

  • On some cruise ships, managers will order crew members to hide improperly stored food or dirty equipment in their cabins to make sure they aren't found by health inspectors, according to Jim Walker, a lawyer who specializes in cases involving cruise-line employees and passengers.
  • A ship operated by the luxury cruise line Silversea was caught hiding food, dishes, and utensils in 2013, when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted a surprise inspection after receiving a tip from a crew member.
  • A Silversea representative told CNN at the time that the ship was an "anomaly," but Walker said over 90% of the respondents (more than 100 in total) in a Facebook poll he posted said they had been instructed to hide food in their cabins while working on a cruise ship.

Cruise ships can be breeding grounds for food-borne illness, as the effects of rotten food or dirty kitchen equipment can ripple through the hundreds or thousands of passengers on a ship. That's why the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) inspect cruise ships to make sure they follow proper sanitation and food-storage procedures.

But sometimes, a ship tries to skirt the rules, Jim Walker, a lawyer who specializes in cases involving cruise-line employees and passengers, told Business Insider. In some cases, cruise-ship managers will order crew members to hide improperly stored food or dirty equipment in their cabins to make sure they aren't found by health inspectors, Walker said. He also said this food can later be served to passengers.

A ship operated by the luxury-cruise-line Silversea was caught hiding food in 2013, when the CDC conducted a surprise inspection after receiving a tip from a crew member. The government agency gave the ship a failing grade and cited it for conducting an "organized effort" to move 15 trolleys of food — including milk, raw meat, and cheese — as well as dishes and utensils from the ship's galley to the cabins of crew members to make sure they wouldn't be seen during an inspection. The CDC said it poured "concentrated chlorine liquid" over the food to make sure it wasn't later used.

A Silversea representative told CNN at the time that the ship was an "anomaly," but Walker said over 90% of the respondents (more than 100 in total) in a Facebook poll he posted said they had been instructed to hide food in their cabins while working on a cruise ship.

"You wouldn't believe how many crew members said, 'Why is this a story? This happens all the time on cruise ships that I've worked in,'" Walker said.

Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, announced the terms of his divorce with wife MacKenzie Bezos has finalized

The two said they had "finished the process of dissolving" their marriage in separate Twitter statements on Thursday. MacKenzie said she will grant Jeff Bezos 75% of their co-owned Amazon stock, as well as voting rights over the shares she kept.

MacKenzie Bezos' remaining stake in Amazon makes her one of the richest women in the world, according to Forbes data. Though MacKenzie's shares total more than $35 billion, Jeff Bezos remains the world's richest person.

Bezos announced that he and his wife of 25 years were divorcing in January 2019. Last year, Bezos hit a milestone after his net worth hit $150 billion — making him the richest person in modern history, as Bloomberg put it. His net worth is now about $110 billion, according to Forbes.

Late last year, Amazon briefly became the second US company after Apple to achieve a valuation of more than $1 trillion (though its market cap has since sunk under that threshold).

That success hasn't come overnight, however. Bezos began his career in the hedge fund world in the 90s, then left a cushy job to launch his own startup.

Here's how Bezos got his start, and built one of the largest tech companies in the world.

How to sign out of a Google account on your desktop or mobile device

google

  • Closing a browser window will not sign you out of Google, and you may even remain signed in after shutting down a computer or phone.
  • It is important that you actively sign out of your Google account if you are using a device which may be shared with other people.
  • Signing out of Google protects your data from unwanted eyes and ensures no one uses your account to wreak havoc, such as spending money through the Google Play Store.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

If your computer stays at home or in a secure office and no one else ever uses it, then it's perfectly all right to leave yourself signed into your Google account at all times. The same is true if your phone is never out of arm's reach.

On the other hand, signing back into Google takes all of 10 seconds, so you may want to consider signing out of your Google account every time you are done using it.

And if you use a shared computer or you have a habit of leaving your phone or tablet lying around, you need to get into the habit of logging out of Google regularly.

When you leave yourself signed into your Google account, you run the risk of allowing access to your email, your Google docs, any files in your Drive folders, your calendar, and lots of personal information.

How to sign out of Google on a computer

Logging out of your Google account couldn't be much simpler, so there's no excuse not to do it. You can do it from just about any Google page, such as your Gmail or a Google Doc.

1. Locate your profile picture in the top right hand corner of the screen.

Screen_Shot_2019 04 03_at_2_32_10_PM

2. Click on the image to open a dropdown menu.

3. Click "Sign out" on the bottom of the menu.

Screen Shot 2019 04 03 at 2.32.27 PM

And that's it, you just signed out of Google. Want to sign back in? Just click that blue box that replaced your profile picture that reads "Sign In" and follow the steps Google gives you.

How to sign out of Google on mobile

There's one major difference between signing out of Google on your mobile browser compared to signing out on a computer: When you log out on mobile, you won't be signing out of your Gmail app or any other Google apps, just from your Google account in a mobile browser.

And here's how to do it:

1. Go to the Google homepage in your mobile browser.

2. Tap your profile picture in the top right corner.

3. Tap the words "Sign out" at the bottom of the menu that appears.

And ... you're out. See? It really is so easy that it's hard to justify not doing it.

Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos have finalized the terms of their divorce — here's what typically happens when billionaires break up

Jeff Bezos divorce money 2x1

Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO of Amazon, and wife MacKenzie Bezos have officially finalized their divorce after 25 years of marriage. The couple, who has four children, filed for divorce in January following a trial separation.

A lot more was at stake for Bezos, the world's richest man with a reported net worth of nearly $150 billion, than there is in a typical divorce — as is often the case with high-net-worth couples.

"The major thing for billionaires is that most of the time, their assets are very complex and mostly illiquid — with Bezos, a lot of his assets are linked to Amazon stock," Jacqueline Newman, a matrimonial law attorney who is a managing partner of Berkman Bottger Newman & Rodd LLP, told Business Insider.

The Bezos' state of residence, Washington, further complicates matters for Bezos' Amazon holdings. It's a community property state, which means wealth accrued during the couple's marriage could be split in half, Karin J. Lundell, a matrimonial and trust and estate partner at Rower LLC, told Business Insider.

Such distribution could be altered if the Bezoses signed a prenuptial or a postnuptial agreement, she said: "Often, very wealthy people have prenups that lay out the division of their property. A prenup can carve out certain things and say, 'We'll divide this up.'" TMZ previously reported that the couple did not have a prenup, citing "sources with direct knowledge" of the situation.

In a Twitter statement on April 4, Mackenzie Bezos said she's granting Jeff Bezos all of her interests in the Washington Post and Blue Origin, and 75% of the Amazon stock co-owned by the pair and voting control over the shares she's retaining.

Her remaining stake in Amazon is estimated to be worth about $35.7 billion at current prices, making her the third-richest woman in the world, according to Forbes' list, Business Insider's Avery Hartmans reported.

A fortune tied to company stock, like Amazon, complicates divorce for billionaire couples

Having a net worth tied to company stock is an issue billionaires like Bezos often have to contend with in a divorce. Deciding what to do can get tricky — you could transfer the stock itself, but if you do, you could lose control of the company depending on your stake, Newman said.

But running a company brings more issues for divorcing billionaires than the possibility of having to transfer or sell a stock to fund a settlement and possibly lose company control.

"Most of the time, it's valuation issues — how to value assets in business," Lundell said. "The publicly traded stocks are easy to value — you don't want to sell because that causes fluctuation. Business interests that are harder to value and are more complex assets, The Washington Post, we don't know the value of that."

With assets that are hard to value and hard to liquidate, divorce proceedings can take longer because there's a more complex evaluation, according to Newman.

And for billionaires in the public eye, like Bezos, there's also the issue of how the divorce will affect the company, Newman said: "They could be distracted or emotionally charged, there could be concern about whether there will be a transfer of actual shares and who's running the company — stocks could go down."

For high-net-worth people not tied to a company, such as an actor, their public image could be just as important, Newman added.

But for Bezos, she said: "The concern is the company and the shares. That's the biggest issue. Beyond that, children are involved. When you're dealing with people of these levels, there are a lot of cooks in the kitchen, a lot of vested interest."

Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife MacKenzie announced on Thursday that they had finalized the terms of their divorce after 25 years of marriage.

The initial announcement of the couple's decision to file for divorce in January drew renewed interest in MacKenzie Bezos' role in the origins of Amazon. MacKenzie Bezos was one of Amazon's first employees, and according to Amazon lore, Jeff Bezos drafted part of the company's business plan while the couple drove across the country together.

As the story goes, Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos met in 1992 when they were both employees at the New York City hedge fund D.E. Shaw. Jeff Bezos worked his way up to senior vice president at the firm, while MacKenzie Bezos, then MacKenzie Tuttle, worked there as a research associate.

The two married in 1993, and a year later, Jeff Bezos told his wife about his revolutionary plan for an online bookstore that he would later name Amazon.

"I'm not a businessperson. So to me, what I'm hearing when he tells me that idea is the passion and the excitement," MacKenzie Bezos told CBS in 2013. "And to me, you know, watching your spouse, somebody that you love, have an adventure — what is better than that, and being part of that?

In 1994, the couple drove from New York City to Seattle, the eventual Amazon headquarters, with MacKenzie Bezos driving and Jeff Bezos "tapping out a business plan on his computer along the way," as Wired wrote in 1999. With their dog Kamala in tow, "Jeff spent the trip pecking out a business plan on a laptop computer and calling prospective investors on a cell phone," according to Entrepreneur.

MacKenzie Bezos became an accountant for Amazon, and is considered one of the company's earliest employees. According to Wired, she was responsible for negotiating Amazon's first freight contracts, ironically, at a Barnes and Noble bookstore.

How to delete Facebook messages on your computer or mobile device

Facebook Messenger on iPhone

  • You can delete individual Facebook messages by using the three-dot menu next to the message on the computer or tapping and holding the message on your phone.
  • You can also delete entire Facebook conversations by swiping it to the left on your phone or using the gear icon on your computer.
  • If you delete a Facebook message within 10 minutes of sending it, you can remove it completely, so the recipient can no longer see it as well. Wait longer than that, though, and you can only remove it from your own account.

Facebook's instant messaging system is a handy way to connect with friends, acquaintances, or anyone else you're trying to get in touch with on the platform.

In a web browser, messaging happens within the Facebook website, but on your phone, it's a separate app entirely. Either way, Facebook gives you the tools to delete messages with just a tap or a click.

But here's something important to keep in mind: If you want to permanently remove a message so that no one can see it — including the recipients — you must do it in the first 10 minutes after sending it. After that, the clock runs out on unilateral destruction, and you can only remove it from your own phone and computer, but the recipients will still be able to see it.

How to delete a Facebook message on mobile

1. Open the Facebook Messenger app.

2. In the conversation where you want to delete a message, tap and hold the message for a second or two.

3. At the bottom of the window that appears, tap "Remove."

How to delete an entire Facebook conversation on mobile

That's how you can remove a single message — but if you prefer, you can eliminate the entire conversation at once from your Messenger app. Here's how to do that:

1. Start the Facebook Messenger app and go to the Chats view, in which you can see all of your conversations in one place.

2. Find the conversation that you want to delete and swipe it to the left.

3. Type the Delete icon, shaped like a trash can. Confirm that this is what you want to do by choosing "Delete Chat."

Of course, it's also easy to delete the entire conversation rather than removing messages one at a time.

1. Go to Facebook in your web browser.

3. Find the conversation you want to delete, and click the small gear-shaped icon on the left.

9 places to buy affordable, high-quality rugs online

Insider Picks writes about products and services to help you navigate when shopping online. Insider Inc. receives a commission from our affiliate partners when you buy through our links, but our reporting and recommendations are always independent and objective.

Affordable Rug Stores

  • Rug shopping can be difficult, especially because a rug has the potential to change the look of an entire room.
  • Finding one that checks off both the affordability and quality box is difficult without actually seeing the product in person.
  • We rounded up a list of places to find budget-friendly rugs, including ones you know like Amazon, WayfairTarget, and some you might not yet, like One Kings Lane and Revival Rugs.

I’m currently wrapped up in the process of furnishing and decorating my apartment, and I’ve come to the conclusion that every home improvement show is a blatant lie. That might seem like a bold statement, but each of these shows portrays the process of revamping your place as a simple task — and simple is the furthest thing from the truth.

Some of the items on my list are easy to come by, while others have been a bit more difficult to find. One of the tougher items to find is a rug, just by nature of how many options are out there. Aside from the obvious factors of price and quality, there's also a lot of pressure that comes with buying a one because it has the potential to change the feel of an entire living area. Some people use them for utility purposes and others use them strictly for decor, but one thing that's for sure is that the way it looks can either make or break your space, visually speaking.

In an effort to save others from the grueling process of finding a rug that fits their needs, I created a blueprint of the best stores to find rugs that are both affordable and high quality. Some of the obvious choices were sites like Rugs USA and Overstock, but smaller sites like One Kings Lane and Revival Rugs also made the list.

Of course, everyone's definition of affordable is different, but all of these sites have options from the low to the high end of possible price ranges.

Check out the list below to find the best stores to find affordable and high-quality rugs.

Amazon

Shop all Amazon rugs here

Amazon is known for its vast amount of tech products, books, and gimmicky goods that you didn't known you needed (but probably bought anyway because you have a Prime membership with tons of benefits). But the retail giant is also home to a ton of furniture, decor, and basically anything you would need to furnish an entire house.

They have a wide selection of rugs, from $35 steals like this contemporary area rug, to quality pieces with a distressed multicolor look. What's great about buying home goods from Amazon is that you can rely on the reviews to guide your purchase. Though finding the right rug may require some digging, there are lots of high-quality and extremely affordable options on the site.

Overstock

Shop all Overstock rugs here

If you're on the lookout for some added floor decor, it won't be hard to find something you like from the abundance of rugs sold at Overstock. The rug homepage allows you to search through rugs by type, size, color, price, or style depending on your preference — which makes grooming through their stock of over 5,000 rugs a bit more bearable. One highlight from the site is their sale section, which includes durable finds like this highly-rated Moroccan area rug, starting at only $20. To sum it up, if you're in need of a very specific style while trying to stay within a budget, give this site a try.

World Market

Shop all World Market rugs here

You might associate World Market with its international foods and wealth of scented candles, but if you haven't taken a look at its rug selection, you should add it to your to-do list. The budget-friendly store has an ample selection of indoor and outdoor area rugs that all seem to add unique spin to basic styles. Some of the "always a deal" rugs start at under $15, and others, like this multicolor Persian style one, are a little pricier but loved by many — still coming in at a starting price under $100.

Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, and wife MacKenzie Bezos announced they've finalized the terms of their divorce after 25 years of marriage.

Jeff Bezos founded Amazon after he and MacKenzie Bezos got married, Business Insider's Shana Lebowitz reported. In the community property state of Washington, which dictates assets acquired during marriage to be split 50-50, that means MacKenzie Bezos could have a right to half of her husband's Amazon fortune if they didn't sign a prenup (which they reportedly didn't).

That could leave a wife divorcing the world's richest man — who has an estimated net worth of nearly $150 billion —  as the world's richest woman; but that's not quite the case for Mackenzie Bezos.

In a Twitter statement on April 4, she said she's granting Jeff Bezos all of her interests in the Washington Post and Blue Origin, and 75% of the Amazon stock co-owned by the pair, as well as voting control over the shares she's retaining. Her remaining stake in Amazon is estimated to be worth about $35.7 billion at current prices, Business Insider's Avery Hartmans reported.

Depending on exactly how much money MacKenzie gets, she's set to rank as the world's third- or fourth-richest woman, according to various publications. Here's how the world's five richest women currently stack up, according to Forbes' real-time net worth profiles:

  1. Francoise Bettencourt Meyers— $52.9 billion
  2. Alice Walton— $45.4 billion
  3. Jacqueline Mars— $25.9 billion
  4. Yang Huiyan— $23.8 billion
  5. Susanne Klatten— $20.8 billion

MacKenzie Bezos' role in Amazon dates back to the company's origins. She was one of Amazon's first employees and reportedly drove her husband cross-country while he drafted part of the company's business plan, according to Business Insider's Mark Abadi.

Google Docs is one of the most widely used collaboration tools available today. It allows multiple users in far-flung locations to work together on a single document (or “doc”), whether writing and editing the text in real time, or polishing one another's drafts in turn.

A Google doc is also a wonderful resource for a writer working on a project alone, as they can access it from anywhere at any time, and can count on the document being backed up to remote servers, removing the risk of being lost if their computer is damaged.

And to top it off, Google docs are pleasantly simple to create and use. But mastering a few of its more advanced features, such as variable line spacing, can take a while. If you’re wondering how to change your text’s line spacing in a Google doc on your desktop or when using the Google Docs mobile app, you're in the right place.

How to change the line spacing in Google Docs’ mobile app

When using the Google Docs app, you can set your line spacing at 1.00, 1.15, 1.5, or 2.00, — a range from single spacing to double spacing. These are the only spacing options on mobile, even though the desktop version of Google docs features many more options, including custom spacing.

If you change the spacing on your computer, your mobile Google doc interface will display the new spacing, but if you try to alter it again from your phone or tablet, you will only have the four options listed above.

1. Open the Google Docs app and locate or create the file you wish to edit.

2. Tap the icon near the top right of the screen that looks like a capital A with small horizontal lines beside it.

3. Tap the word "Paragraph" on the popup window.

4. To the right of the words "Line spacing," tap the up arrow until the number reads 2.00.

How to change the line spacing in a Google doc on your computer

As noted above, you have much more control over line spacing in a Google doc when you access it from a computer, so when possible, that's the best interface to edit from.

1. Open the Google doc you wish to edit, or create a new one.

2. Near the top right of the screen, locate a vertical line with arrows at the top and bottom set beside three parallel, horizontal lines and click it.

3. Click the spacing you want (Single, 1.15, 1.5, or Double) or hit "Custom spacing..."

4. If you hit chose to use custom spacing, on the next window, set your spacing for lines and paragraphs, then hit "Apply."

  • House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler has requested all records of communications between the Justice Department and the special counsel Robert Mueller's office regarding the final report in the Russia investigation.
  • The request comes after multiple media outlets reported that members of Mueller's team are frustrated with the way Attorney General William Barr characterized their findings in a four-page letter he sent to Congress last month.
  • Mueller's team also reportedly prepared summaries of their findings to release to the public and were perplexed Barr didn't use more of their material in his letter to Congress.
  • Nadler asked Barr on Thursday to release all of the Mueller team's summaries to the public, writing, "If there is significant daylight between [Mueller's] account and yours, the American people should know that, too."

New York Rep. Jerry Nadler, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has requested all records of communications between the US Justice Department and the special counsel Robert Mueller's office about the final report in the Russia investigation.

Nadler specified that the committee was seeking communications "regarding the disclosure of the report to Congress, the disclosure of the report to the public, and those regarding your March 24 letter that purports to 'summarize the principal conclusions reached by the Special Counsel and the results of his investigation.'"

Nadler's request, which he outlined in a letter to Attorney General William Barr on Thursday, comes after reports that some members of Mueller's team are frustrated with the way Barr characterized their findings in the Russia probe in a four-page letter he sent to Congress late last month.

In the letter, Barr wrote that Mueller's team did not find sufficient evidence to bring a conspiracy charge against President Donald Trump or anyone associated with his campaign. The attorney general also said prosecutors declined to come to a conclusion, one way or another, on whether Trump obstructed justice in the investigation but said that their report did not "exonerate" the president.

But Barr, in consultation with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, determined there was not enough evidence to conclude Trump committed an obstruction crime.

However, people familiar with the matter told The Washington Post they believed Barr's letter on Mueller's report downplayed the fact that "the evidence they gathered on obstruction was alarming and significant."

Mueller's team also reportedly prepared several summaries of its report and was frustrated Barr did not use more of its material in his letter to Congress.

One unnamed US official was quoted in The New York Times as saying that Mueller’s team assumed the information was going to be made available to the public "and so they prepared their summaries to be shared in their own words — and not in the attorney general’s summary of their work, as turned out to be the case."

The Justice Department released a statement on Thursday defending Barr.

"Every page of the confidential report provided to Attorney General Barr on March 22, 2019 was marked 'may contain material protected under Fed. R. Crim P. 6(e)' — a law that protects confidential grand jury information - and therefore could not be released," the statement said.

Nadler said in his letter to Barr that the Department's statement "does not deny the existence of these summaries."

The New York congressman also urged the attorney general to release the summaries that Mueller's team put together in their entirety to Congress and the public.

"If there is significant daylight between [Mueller's] account and yours, the American people should know that too," Nadler wrote.

Barr is working with Mueller's team to redact certain categories of information from the final report, and the attorney general said last month he plans to release a redacted version of the document by mid-April.
