Black Friday and Cyber Monday are generally synonymous with major savings on tech, mattresses, furniture, and other big purchases most people wait all year to make.

But for some of us, the most exciting discounts are the ones on clothes, shoes, bags, and accessories. We may not wait all year to buy them, but there's still no better feeling that scoring a great deal on a coat you've been eyeing, or a wardrobe basic you've been meaning to stock up on anyway.

Whether you're shopping for yourself or looking to check off your holiday gift list, I have no doubt you'll find what you're looking for in this roundup of women's fashion deals, which includes our favorite department stores (like Nordstrom) and clothing and accessory startups (like Dagne Dover, Bombas, M.Gemi, and Tommy John, to name a few). Below you'll find all the best stores and their Black Friday deals in alphabetical order. Plus, we'll continue to update this through Black Friday as we learn more information about deals.

After nearly two weeks with Apple's brand-new MacBook Air, I'm convinced: It's worth the high price tag (AAPL)

Macbook Air

Apple's latest flagship laptop — the 2018 MacBook Air — is a gorgeous, powerful, sleek device that feels like the truest expression of the Air line.

It's absurdly thin, but it packs in a gorgeous 13-inch "Retina" display. It's got a smaller frame than ever before, but it's got the largest trackpad on any MacBook. Even the keyboard is brand new.

After nearly two weeks with Apple's brand-new MacBook Air, I'm convinced: It's worth the high price tag.

SEE ALSO: I dropped $1,500 on Apple's new MacBook Air — these are the 13 things I love and hate about it

First up: what I bought.

If you buy the base-level MacBook Air that Apple released in early November, it costs $1,199 before tax. If you add RAM, like I did, it costs an extra $200.

I felt pretty comfortable with the CPU, and I refuse to pay $200 for a measly 128 GB of extra internal storage, but I relented on the RAM upgrade — I want this computer to last at least four years, and 8 GB of RAM simply isn't going to cut it. I upgraded to 16 GB of RAM, and if I could've added even more, I probably would've.

After tax, I paid just shy of $1,450. That was on the high end of what I was willing to pay for a new laptop, but I'm glad I did.

All that said, the base-level MacBook Air that costs $1,199 is more than capable. I got more RAM because it fits my needs. It's entirely likely you don't need to spend the extra cash.

What's so great about it? For starters, the screen is insanely impressive.

It wasn't until I handed my new MacBook Air to a friend to use that I realized how impressive the new screen is. He was sitting next to me on a couch, and I was talking to him from the side while he used the computer. Despite the fact that I was looking at the screen from the side, no matter how thin I made the viewing angle, I could see fine details on the screen.

It might sound ridiculous, I realize — yes, I'm saying that the screen is so impressive because I can see it from the side.

But the screen acts like a piece of paper. Instead of doing what screens normally do when you look at them from the side — become a thin field of light with no discernible details — the MacBook Air Retina screen still manages to produce crisp details regardless of the viewing angle.

It's something that doesn't feel immediately impactful. In reality, it's one of several crucial evolutions to the MacBook Air that make it feel so modern and fresh.

The new speakers, keyboard, and trackpad are all major improvements.

No caveats necessary: The new touchpad, new stereo speakers, and new keyboard are all major improvements over previous MacBook Air models.

I have universally positive things to say about all of them, but the accolades are mostly unremarkable: The keyboard is, indeed, a very good keyboard. The same could be said for the trackpad and the speakers.

They do exactly what you think they do, and they do it very well.

The speakers are loud and having one on each side of the keyboard is a really nice change. The keyboard is clicky and responsive, with shorter keys than ever before. I find myself typing faster than ever on the new MacBook Air — a genuine benefit that has a major impact on how I use my laptop.

In the case of the trackpad, it's larger than ever and as responsive as ever. The major addition here is a novelty named "Force Touch" that first appeared on Apple's iPhones.

In my experience with Force Touch, it's a relatively needless gimmick that I could take or leave. By clicking in deeper than you normally would on a mouse click, you get a few different contextual options depending on what you click. It's totally fine, but I rarely find myself thinking to use it. At the same time, it doesn't detract from the experience in any way. Force Touch is entirely ignorable, and I suggest you do exactly that.

A 7-bedroom Swiss cabin has been named the world's best ski chalet for 2 years in a row — and an inside tour quickly proves why

Les Anges 51

  • The Chalet Les Anges has been named the world's best skichalet.
  • This is the second year in a row that the three-story chalet in Zermatt, Switzerland has been given the title by The World Ski Awards
  • The cabin has seven bedrooms and sweeping views of the iconic Matterhorn.

For the second year in a row, Chalet Les Anges has been named the world's best ski chalet by the World Ski Awards.

The chalet is located in Zermatt, a ski town in the southern, German-speaking part of Switzerland, just north of the Italian border.

According to its website, it's available for rent in week-long increments. While the chalet is already booked up for many of the remaining winter 2018/2019 weekends, it's still available for some at a cool starting price point of $45,000 a week.

The World Ski Awards looks at the best ski chalet — amongst other categories, like Best Ski Resort — in each of the world's top 25 ski tourism countries. Votes are then cast by professionals working in the ski industry. Chalet Les Anges, with its 2017 and 2018 wins, unseated the 2016 winner, Canada's Bighorn Revelstoke.

Here's a look at the Swiss chalet:

I drank at the best bar in the world, and I was surprised by one thing

$

dandelyan negroni

A bar on London's South Bank has been named the best in the world.

The World's 50 Best Bars list, now in its 10th year, is based on the opinions of more than 500 drinks experts, who each cast seven votes.

For 2018, the experts named Dandelyan, the bar of the Mondrian Hotel in London, the best in the world.

The bar was created by the award-winning bartender Ryan Chetiyawardana, or "Mr. Lyan," the creator of the "Lyan" family of bars that includes Super Lyan, Cub, and White Lyan, which is now closed.

Dandelyan, his oldest bar, is "inspired by the great botanists, fruit hunters, and bon vivants who brought back new tastes from foreign lands."

Located in Sea Containers House right on the River Thames, Dandelyan offers some pretty stunning views — and its interior is just as impressive.

However, there was one main thing that surprised me about the best bar in the world when I went to visit.

Here's what it was like.

SEE ALSO: The 50 best bars in the world in 2018

Dandelyan, in the Mondrian Hotel on London's South Bank, was named the best bar in the world for 2018. Situated right on the River Thames, the bar boasts some pretty stunning views of sites like St. Paul's. Here's what it looks like when it's empty (and shot with a professional camera).

And here's what it looked like when I visited on a Friday night. I was taken aback by the bar's location, right on the river path, meaning plenty of tourists and pedestrians walk by and look right in at you (or even come inside).

The stylish interior has an art deco vibe, paying homage to the Sea Containers building the bar and hotel are in. The space, by the British designer Tom Dixon, is inspired partly by "the luxurious cruise liners of generations past" filled with luxe purples, pinks, greens, and golds.

Hillary Clinton says Europe needs to stop taking in migrants — and people aren't happy about it

hillary clinton

  • Hillary Clinton is facing a backlash after arguing that European leaders should stop offering "refuge and support" to migrants in order to assuage the concerns of a growing right-wing populism across the continent.
  • "Europe has done its part, and must send a very clear message — 'we are not going to be able to continue to provide refuge and support,'" Clinton said in an interview published Thursday.
  • The former secretary of state's comments were met with widespread condemnation from pro-immigration advocates and progressive politicians around the world.

Hillary Clinton is facing backlash after arguing that European leaders should stop offering "refuge and support" to migrants in order to assuage the concerns of a growing right-wing populism across the continent.

"I think Europe needs to get a handle on migration because that is what lit the flame," Clinton said in an interview with The Guardian that was conducted before the midterm elections and published on Thursday.

The former secretary of state said that while she admired the generosity of leaders like German chancellor Angela Merkel, who opened up the country's borders in 2015 as migrants fled war and political crises in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.

"I admire the very generous and compassionate approaches that were taken particularly by leaders like Angela Merkel, but I think it is fair to say Europe has done its part, and must send a very clear message — 'we are not going to be able to continue to provide refuge and support' — because if we don't deal with the migration issue it will continue to roil the body politic," she said.

But many — on both sides of the Atlantic — viewed Clinton's comments as a capitulation to right-wing populism. A wide array of immigration activists and scholars, pundits, and politicians expressed shock and concern with Clinton's comments, which some pointed out appear to contradict her 2016 campaign position on welcoming immigrants and refugees.

"The moment we give in to right populism is the moment we lose," tweeted David Lammy, a Labour party politician. "Let us stand not against migrants, but in unapologetic solidarity with them. They give so much to our economy, culture and way of life."

Clinton's position also highlights the Democratic Party's lack of clarity and consensus on the issue of immigration.

"Deeply misguided and unfortunate comment from someone who must know better," Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a liberal Washington State lawmaker, tweeted

More than one million migrants arrived in the EU in 2015, but migration to the continent has dropped sharply since then — less than 100,000 people have made it to Europe's shores this year — in part because of the policies of deterrence that Clinton is now promoting.

Clinton argued that Trump's exploitation of both racist, anti-immigrant sentiment, and legitimate grievances about border security was key in his 2016 victory and continues to buoy his popularity.

"The use of immigrants as a political device and as a symbol of government gone wrong, of attacks on one's heritage, one's identity, one's national unity has been very much exploited by the current administration here," she said.

Right-wing populist parties have seen a resurgence in Europe in the last few years — with anti-immigrant candidates taking power in Poland, Hungary, Italy, and Austria — while a right-wing party has seen a surge in popularity in Germany.

Sonos almost never discounts its speakers — but on Black Friday you can get up to $100 off

Sonos 1

  • Black Friday is finally here, and if you've been waiting for a great deal on Sonos speakers, you're in luck.
  • Through November 26 you can save $25 on the Sonos One, $50 on the Sonos Beam, $100 on the Sonos Sub, and $100 on the Sonos Connect Amp.
  • These are the lowest prices we've seen on these speakers since Black Friday last year, so this is the best time to pick one up.
  • To potentially save more on Black Friday, you can visit Business Insider Coupons to find up-to-date promo codes for a range of online stores.

Black Friday is finally here, and while we've found a ton of great tech deals that are worth your time, Sonos' speaker deals stand up above most of them.

The startup almost never discounts its audio gear, but you can save $25 on the Sonos One, $50 on the Sonos Beam, $100 on the Sonos Sub, and $100 on the Sonos Amp until November 26. These discounts may not seem steep, but they take the speakers and audio accessory down to their lowest prices of the year.

All of the gear on sale can be added to a pre-existing Sonos system or used to start a new one, but to I've broken down the highlights of each one below, so you can decide which is the best for you.

sonos one
Sonos One, $174.99 (originally $199.99), available at Amazon, Sonos, Best Buy, and Walmart [You save $25]

The Sonos One is the startup's smartest speaker. It has Amazon's Alexa built in, so it's just as smart as an Amazon Echo, but it sounds a lot better. It also supports Apple's AirPlay 2 audio standard, which lets you stream music directly from the Music app on a Mac, iPhone, or iPad instead of through Sonos' app. Although it's a mono speaker, you can pair two Sonos Ones together to listen to music in stereo.

Sonos beam

Sonos Beam, $349.99 (originally $399.99), available at Amazon, Sonos, Best Buy, and Walmart [You save $50]

The Beam is Sonos' newest soundbar, and it's basically a Sonos One you can connect to your TV. It also has Alexa and support for AirPlay 2 built in, but it has a couple of other tricks up its sleeve. If it's connected to your TV through its HDMI ARC (audio return channel) port, you can ask Alexa to turn your TV on and off and adjust its volume, so you won't have to use your remote as much. The Beam also delivers impressive audio quality for a soundbar that's significantly shorter and slimmer than most of its competition.

Sonos Sub

Sonos Sub, $599.99 (originally $699.99), available at Amazon, Sonos, Best Buy, and Walmart [You save $100]

The Sub is Sonos' subwoofer, and you can use it with any of the startup's speakers to hear more bass without any distortion. The Sub's best feature is that it's totally wireless, which means you can plug it into any outlet without having to worry about routing an audio cable to another speaker. It'll also work whether it's stood up or laid flat on its side, so you can keep it under a couch, or in another out-of-the-way spot without sacrificing on sound. It's expensive, but if you're putting together a wireless 5.1 surround sound speaker system with Sonos, you'll need a SUB.

Sonos Amp

Sonos Connect Amp, $399.99 (originally $499.99, available at Amazon, Sonos, Best Buy, and Walmart [You save $100]

The Sonos Connect Amp basically turns any pair of old speakers you have into a brand-new set from Sonos. The amp has analog inputs that let you connect anything from a record player to a computer, and a pair of outputs that let you connect speakers using speaker wire. You can connect the amp to your home network by plugging in an Ethernet cable or connecting it via Wi-Fi, and once it's set up, you'll be able to stream music from your phone or computer to your old speakers.

I visited Target and Best Buy on Black Friday — and I couldn't believe how empty they were (TGT, BBY)

target black friday 2808

  • Black Friday isn't as crazy of a shopping day as it once was.
  • Black Friday's decline is in large part due to the rise of online shopping and heavy discounting year-round.
  • When we visited Best Buy and Target, traditionally two of the biggest Black Friday destinations, the stores were close to empty.

Black Friday isn't the massive shopping event it once was.

One of the biggest factors in Black Friday's declining significance is the rise of online shopping. With so many deals available online, customers no longer have to wait out in long lines for stores to open.

"54 percent of US shoppers say they are more likely to shop online during Black Friday with the biggest reasons being convenience and simplicity," Ray Wimer, an assistant professor of retail practice at Syracuse University, said in an email earlier this week.

According to RetailNext, the number of people actually visiting stores on Black Friday declined 4.5% in 2017. Meanwhile, online sales on that day were up 16.9% versus the previous year, Adobe Analytics data showed.

The rise of online shopping has also allowed Black Friday to begin earlier. Online shopping on Thanksgiving surged this year, according to Adobe.

Constant discounting also may be to blame. This year, Prime Day forced competing retailers like Target, Macy's, and JCPenney to offer massive Black Friday-style sales in July, taking away from the excitement of holiday deals.

When I visited a Best Buy and a Target — traditionally two of the biggest Black Friday destinations — in Westchester, New York, I was surprised to find that the stores weren't busy at all. Besides all of the big signs, it seemed like any other weekend. Hardly anyone was waiting in line before stores opened, and the lines at the register didn't seem out of the ordinary.

Here's what it was like to shop at Best Buy and Target on Black Friday morning:

Best Buy was the first store I went to. I arrived about 20 minutes before it opened at 8 a.m.

Man who reportedly demanded 'all Jews raise their hands' on a Delta flight arrested upon landing (DAL)

delta airlines man arrested antisemitic

  • A man demanded that all Jewish passengers on his Delta Air Lines flight on Wednesday "raise their hands" so he could identify them, a fellow passenger said.
  • The incident took place on a flight to Atlanta from Washington, DC. The police identified the man as David Toaff.
  • He was arrested and taken to jail upon landing.
  • Video footage showed a man appearing to resist arrest and shouting "I'm not a bad person."

A man was arrested Wednesday after a rant on a Delta Air Lines flight that one witness said included a demand that "all Jews raise their hands" so he could identify them.

The man, identified as David Toaff, 37, shouted the remarks at fellow passengers on a flight to Atlanta from Washington, DC, on Wednesday, the Atlanta police told USA Today.

"Today a man on my plane went on an anti-Semitic tirade and demanded 'all Jews raise their hands' so he could 'indentify them,'" Jordan Dale, a passenger and production assistant at The Hill, tweeted.

Atlanta Police told Business Insider in a statement: "A male was yelling, asking Jewish people on board to identify themselves and making remarks about bombings to passengers aboard the aircraft. Some passengers told police they interpreted the remarks as being anti-Semitic."

It's not clear what the "remarks about bombings" were. Atlanta Police did not respond to Business Insider's request for comment. Business Insider has also contacted Delta Air Lines for comment.

Law-enforcement officers arrested Toaff upon landing in Atlanta. A video posted by Dale at the arrival gate shows a man yelling "I'm not a bad person" and trying to break free from the police.

The Times of Israel reported that the man in the video appeared to be wearing a tallit, or a Jewish prayer shawl.

Toaff said he lived in Washington, DC, and "people know who I am."

He was ultimately charged with obstruction and disorderly conduct and taken to Clayton County Jail, police said.

The $50 safety razor I swear by to get a close, smooth shave is 15% off as a Black Friday deal

$

The Insider Picks team writes about stuff we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.

Rockwell 6C Razor

  • There are a wealth of different shaving startups to turn to for better razors than the drugstore variety I'd relied upon for years, but the razor that has improved my shave the most is the $50 Rockwell 6C Safety Razor.
  • Rockwell Razors makes high-quality safety razors that they claim "anyone can start using without the learning curve of other safety razors."
  • I've shaved with the 6C safety razor for the last few months, and while it's expensive and requires more time and concentration (remember, we're dealing with very sharp blades here), the extremely close shave the razor offers is far superior to any other razor I've used.
  • The razor has significantly cut down on my ingrown hairs and any acne I was getting from clogged pores, which helps justify its $50 cost.
  • Right now, all customers can save 15% off store-wide using code "BLACKFRIDAY".

I'm pretty set in my ways when it comes to shaving. I've tried razors from other shaving startups, but I've found that five- or six-blade razors irritate my skin.

I don't have a very thick beard and I don't need to be clean shaven every day for work, which means I've been pretty happy with my standard three-blade razor I bought a bunch of years ago. I only have to shave a couple times a week, which means my blade cartridges last a while, so it hasn't been a big cost issue for me to pay a little more for another four-pack of them every few months.

Until recently, I'd never had a straight razor shave (the scary barbershop kind), nor had I ever tried a safety razor (a mix of a single razor blade but with some safety features). Rockwell Razors sent me their 6C safety razor model because they wanted to prove their claim that they've made "a double-edge safety razor that anyone can start using without the learning curve of other safety razors."

So, after I got the razor, I didn't watch any YouTube videos about shaving and only used their instruction manual. The model they sent me has six settings that determine the angle at which the blade meets your skin. I started with the third, figuring the middle setting would be the best place to start. At first, I treated it like a normal drugstore razor and made some mistakes.

I will get into how you need to pay more attention to the shave below, but true to their claim, I didn't make any huge mistakes. I might have made fewer if I took a safer setting to start, but hindsight is 20/20.

Rockwell 6C Razor with the different blade settings

As I wrote earlier, whenever I shaved with a razor with more than three blades, my skin got irritated. It turns out the opposite is also true; when I shave with less than three blades, my skin gets even less irritated.

Since I began shaving with the 6C, I've noticed an almost complete absence of any ingrown hairs on my cheeks and neck, and any acne I was getting from clogged pores is also gone. Using a single razor blade means the shave is incredibly close. For me, this also means shaving even less often. If you're a very beard-y person, you'll have more time before that 5 o'clock shadow shows up.

Furthermore, since you're using one blade and getting very close, I have noticed that when my beard does grow back, it grows back in softer than it does with a more traditional drugstore razor. It stand to reason that because the one blade cuts closely, it blunts the hair rather than slicing it at angle, so the hair grows out flat rather than pointy.

My facial hair is far less coarse, which I wasn't expecting and count as a major benefit of using the razor.

That said, this product is not without its trade-offs. First, the upfront cost is significant and can't be ignored. Second, this is a product that requires patience and precision. We're dealing with very sharp razor blades. They are so sharp you may struggle to notice if you cut yourself. When using a safety razor, you must absolutely not be in a rush; you have to take the time to pull your skin taut so that you get a clean connection between the blade and the skin.

The razor also takes a little more care to clean out. You can use both sides while you shave, but because of how the blade is screwed into place, you may need to loosen it when you run it under the sink to clear out the hair. I've cut my fingers doing this and I've also cut myself when I wasn't paying complete attention.

Now that I've laid out the risks and benefits, we should also look at the economics.

Rockwell sells a pack of 100 razors for $12. Using the eight shaves per blade as my assumption (if you have thicker hair you might wear through them faster than I do), that's 800 shaves for $12, or about $.02 a shave. That $12 pack would also last me seven years before I'd have to buy more at 2 shaves per week. Compared to what I've been doing, I've been spending $16 on a four-pack of blades that lasts me six or seven months at about $.50 per shave. Even with the cost of the fancy razor upfront, after a couple of years this easily pays for itself. And that's without considering the benefits I've seen to my skin from using a safety razor.

If you're interested in looking at some other safety razor options, our buying guide has a bunch of other great options.

You can also check out the full Rockwell shop here.

  • Popular Europeantourist destinations like Paris, Rome, and London aren't your only options on the continent.
  • Here, we explore seven of the most underrated cities in Europe, from Strasbourg, France, to Budapest, Hungary.

When most people dream of traveling across Europe, they envision hitting the cities that we see in movies and on TV or that we read about in books.

While places like Paris, Rome, and London all have their merits and are definitely worth a visit, there are some seriously underrated places across the continent that have a lot to offer (even if you've never heard of them).

The next time you're ready to pack your bags and head overseas, considering making your way to these seven cities — you might just be amazed by what you find there.

York, England

When most people think of England, they think of London, but there's an entire country outside of the capital with so much to offer, and York is definitely high up on the list. Located in the north of England — North Yorkshire, to be specific — the city was founded by the Romans around the year 71 AD. It remains a vibrant hub full of beautiful architecture (York Minster, a Gothic cathedral, is a particularly beautiful sight) and narrow, winding streets that truly make you feel as if you've stepped into another era.

Budapest, Hungary

While tourism is on the rise in Hungary's capital city, it's safe to say that it still remains a somewhat well-kept secret. The fourteenth largest city in Europe, Budapest is certainly one of the most beautiful cities in the world, boasting amazing museums, churches, and scenic views of the Danube.

Strasbourg, France

Paris may be the city of love, but Strasbourg, located just over two hours from the capital by train, serves as the official seat of the European Parliament and showcases the exquisite beauty of the Alsace region. Located close to the German border, Strasbourg's city center is an official UNESCO World Heritage site and features architecture and culture that's a charming mix of both German and French.
